Aperture doesn't read raw files

Aperture just stopped reading raw files. NOt all of them, just some. It says unsupported file format. Why is this happening, what can I do about it?

Aperture 2.0.1, camera Canon EOD 400D, OS 10.5.2.
The problem is it didn't happen before, it started happening today after I changed places of many files, exported the biggest part to the external drive and created new projects leaving some photos there and changing places. I don't know what I did wrong. It can't read only some files.
Same thing happened with Iphoto as well some time ago.

Aperture can't read RAW files since update???

So I went to import the pictures from the holidays into Aperture yesterday and it wouldn't read the raw files. Aperture just keeps saying it's generating thumbnails. I shut it down, got on a plane and tried again today, same problem and even the photos previously imported and were fine aren't showing up properly. It just says "unsupported image format."
My last import was the last week of Novemeber.
Is anyone else having this problem since the 2.1.4 update??

Did you also do the latest MAc Os update - with the additional DIGITAL RAW compatibility update 2.7?
I did the APerture update a while ago and everything was working fine - it is only after I did the latest OS update that I encountered the same issue.

Either use 'SYLKPIX Developer Studio SE' to develope the RAW files and to save them in another lossless format like TIFF, or try if Adobe's free DNG Coverter can convert your Lumix RAW files to dng. Then import the dngs. This way, your files will still be RAW files. This works (most times) for my Lumix FZ28.

Can Aperture 3 read Raw files from Canon G1X?

Is Aperture 3 capable of reading Raw files from a Canon G1X?
I'm currently using an elderly version of IPhoto, having resisted upgrading because of negative feedback about the latest version. My IPhoto version cannot read the Raw files from the G1X. I also tried importing one into Picassa, but the colours looked completely wierd.
I'm now considering buying Aperture 3 but will maybe wait until:
a. Aperture 4 is released and;
b. I know that Aperture can indeed read the Raw files from the G1X.
Any help/advice gratefully received.

What is your MacOS version? Perhaps upgrading to 10.7.4 should make the raw support available in iPhoto too.

Tried all available software updates - all up to date apparently but still no joy. OS X Lion shows the LX5 as a supported file format. I dont want to have to upgrade to Mountain Lion just to see if this solves the problem. Any ideas please.

Since when did this happen? Directly after you upgraded to Aperture 3.3.2?
If it happened directly after the upgrade the problem may be, that the raw support for your camera got lost. For some posters it helped to register the raw support again, see this post by Alan Roseman:

If this does not help, you may need to reinstall Lion to bring back the raw support.
But if the problem occured independent of a new installation, ypu may have a problem with your camera or the card you are using. Have you tried to use a different card or to reformat the card in the camera?

Just bought Canon 40d - Use CS2 - Cannot read Raw files in Bridge

Heading says it all really. Just purchased new Canon 40D Body and have been using CS2 on Mac OS 10.4 for over two years. Cannot read RAW files in Photoshop Bridge which is what I have used consistently with 20D files up to now. Quick search on Google brought up fact that Adobe had not up upgraded Bridge to read new 40D files but that was 2 years ago. Am now looking for plug-in! Can anyone help or am I now forced to upgrade my CS2 or move away to Aperture or Lightroom? Any help gratefully received. Rob

The 40d is not supported by any version of Camera Raw that can run in CS2. You need at least CS3 and ACR 4.2 or greater.
Dowload the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 5.3 and convert the raw files from your 40d to raw DNGs first, then you can open the DNG files in ACR 3.7 hosted by CS2.

I firmly disencourage people to purchase Aperture these days.
To everyone asking me for advise as a Pro photographer.
Apple attitude on this issue is of abandonement and ignorance of users needs.
Unfortunately, the feeling is that this is going to be the permanent standard.
They are not providing translations, not providing support to models such as X-Pro1 that has received inmediate reaction from major developers, neither do care for users that openly claim for RAW support for an extended model as X-10.
This is somehow another sign of apple arrogance in term of market predominant coompany.
If Apple do not begin to lose sales and an importan market share this is going to be worse and worse.
Best way: Ignore Aperture.
Adobe is nowadays the ONLY option for photographers.
I don't like Lightroom so I must select my shots with Photo Mechanic, or Xnview and then go to photoshop.
Sick of Apple.

Please help!? can't read RAW files on Macbook

I just recieved my new Macbook Pro in the mail today and downloaded my Lightroom 3 to it, but my NEF files won't show up! Even though iPhoto and Finder seem to read the file just fine.....How can I fix this? I'm new to Mac but not to Apple products. My PC read RAW files in my L3 with no problem, please help!

So, when JimHess asks "What version of Lightroom 3 is actually running on your computer?", your answer of "the older version" doesn't really inform us of the information we need. When we ask for a version, we want the exact version NUMBER, and not a verbal description like "older version".
Anyway, the D7000 was supported beginning with Lightroom 3.3. If your version is not Lightroom 3.3 or greater, then it cannot read D7000 raw files.
You should download Lightroom 3.6 and use that. I'm sure you can use Google to find the proper links to the proper download.

The Olympus Stylus 1 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and CC.
It is not compatible with CS5 or older and never will be.
If you do not want to upgrade to CS6 or CC then you can dwonload the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Stylus 1 Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5.

How do I getr my CS5 to read RAW files from my new Panosonic DMC FZ200?

My Adobe CS5 can't read RAW files I'm attempting to PP in it from two new cameras. What good is having software that is suppose to be able to read RAW files when it won't for new equipment. Surely it should be able to adapt to newer cameras as they come along.Today I tried downloading a sample RAW file from a online review of the new Canon 5D Mark iii. It starts to open in CS5 but then says it can't read RAW files from this camera either. How do I change that in my Photoshop CS5. I havn't tried it in Elements 10 yet. will it do the same thing and will I need to change the settings there too? I can post process RAW files from my Canon XSi and XTi without any problem.

FYI, Adobe is constantly supporting new cameras with new versions of Camera Raw.

But you must upgrade your version of Photoshop in order to run the latest versions of Camera Raw to read Raw files from the latest released camera models. Or join the Cloud and you can keep your software current at all times as part of your membership.

Reading RAW files from Nikon D600 in CS5.

I have installed the latest plug in updates for camera raw into cs5 but still cannot read raw files. Any advice? Many thanks in advance.

Support for the D600 was added in Camera Raw 7.3 which will only work in Photoshop CS6. You choise is to update to CS6 or doenload the free DNG Converter 7.3 (scroll down to the Downloads) and convert the D600 NEF files to DNG DNG files.

Help please! Cannot read raw files of my Nikon D5000. Have downloaded Camera Raw 5.3 and followed instruvctions. 5.3 supports the D90 which is supposedly essential the same. Any suggestions?

Try the DNG converter or the DPP software supplied with your camera until ACR 5.4 is finalized, as suggested in the posts.
I have read that there is a way to get the Release Candidate 5.4 installed in PSE 6/7 but you need some skills in understanding computer files.

How can I get Elements 13 to read RAW files from Nikon D750?

I've upgrade my camera from the Nikon D3200 to the Nikon D750. With the D3200, I used Elements 11 to edit both JPEG and RAW files, but found out today Elements 11 isn't compatible with the D750 to read RAW files. I downloaded the trial version of Elements 13--which is compatible per the Adobe help desk, but the RAW files shot with the D750 still aren't being seen; however, I do see RAW files that I took with the D3200.
Same memory card is being used and I formatted the card when I changed it from one camera to the other.
What am I doing wrong? I almost always shoot RAW, so I need to be able to the files.
I'm wondering if Elements 13 really is compatible with the D750.
I want to add I'm using a MAC.

I was able to figure out the issue--the D750 files must be converted to DNG files first, then I can upload them to Elements and edit them as I would a RAW file.

This works for both MAC and Windows.
