Aperture doesn't run with Snow Leopard

I just bought a new 17" MacBook Pro and installed Aperture2. When I go to open the program I get a message that I have Aperture2 and can't run it on this computer. Huh?

I installed Aperture2 prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. Updated Aperture 2.1.4
Problem arises VIEW browser/viewer, select a thumbnail picture, Aperture opens first picture fine, then if I scroll through other thumbs or quickly select a new thumb, it thinks about it for 2-3 minutes. All pics are NEF and about 2-3mb each. The processing time to open pictures progressively gets longer. Sitting waiting for the picture to open in Viewer is ridiculously long. I do regular software updates.

Apple store told me it would work but be slow. I recognize minimum OS is 2Mhz

  • Pages 4.2 update doesn't run with Snow Leopard

I keep both Montain Lion and Snow Leopard on the same computer, different partitions. After upgrading Pages this week, it no longer runs under Snow Leopard.  The icon changes and a launch message says I can't use this version with Snow Leopard. It looks like this is true of all the iWorks apps. This is the first time I recall the iWorks suite not being backwards compatible.
My advice is to keep a backup copy or older iWorks releases if you need to run Snow Leopard. The App store only has the Mountain Lion version so I can't just download the SnowLeopard compatible version.

The same exact thing happened to me. I have a thread on this same issue but no one has responded. Did you find a way around this?

  • Tried to run a CD I had run with Snow Leopard. Now (with Lion) getting a message that PowerPC applications are no longer supported.. How do I overcome this? Thanks

Tried to run a CD I had run with Snow Leopard. Now (with Lion) getting a message that PowerPC applications are no longer supported.. How do I overcome this? Thanks

Well Lion does not support power PC applications.  They only way is to upgrade the application, or if your have SL disks, reinstall SL.

  • Help! Aperture won't work with Snow Leopard...

I know you will all probably laugh at me because I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The problem is that nobody told me my Aperture wouldn't work anymore! I can't even open it to retrieve my photos...(btw, this is why I was hesitant to upgrade...but I had to because I got the iphone 5 which wouldn't sync with my itunes version and that wouldn't update unless I went to snow leopard...and so on....).
So, the problem is that I need Aperture version 2.0. so I can update that to 2.1.4 and be compatible with Snow Leopard.  I have 1.5.6 and kept it that way because it was working for me and I just basically use Aperture as a photo storage system. I can't find 2.0 anywhere. I can't figure out how to uninstall snow leopard either. I need my photos back asap.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance,
    Debi

    One more question, debi.
Does your Aperture icon show a circular ring like the ghostbusters? Like below for my CCC?
And is the "Kind" listed as "Application (PowerPC)" when you use "Get Info ⌘I)? That would indicate that your current Aperture version is still a PowerPC application. Then you can still make it run on Snow Leopard. You have to make sure that your Snow Leopard installation includes the Rosetta environment.
Do you have a Snow Leopard install disk? Look into the "Optional Installs" folder on this disk and open the "Optional Installs" package. Proceed as described in the second part of this
    article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167117/reinstalling_rosetta.html
If your Aperture 2 version is still a PoerPC app, installing Rosetta should enable you to run the aperture 2 installer from your installation disk and then upgrade to Aperture 2.1.4.

  • FYI: New version of Disk Warrior seems to hang when run with Snow Leopard

FYI: It seems that the new version of Disk Warrior hangs when run in Snow Leopard

I have been using DW 4.2 on 10.5.8 and the speed-up was the first thing I noted, too, so it isn't just SL.
Now if it would only 'come up for air' and respond to input to move window (so I can put it where I can see it if needed) I'd like that.
There is a 23 page review of Snow Leopard on Ars. On page 22:
People sometimes ask what, exactly, is wrong with HFS+.
Aside from its obvious lack of the features just listed, HFS+ is limited in many ways by its dated design, which is based on HFS, *a twenty-five year-old file system.*
To give just one example, the centrally located Catalog File, which must be updated for each change to the file system's structure, is a frequent and inevitable source of contention. Modern file systems usually spread their metadata around, both for robustness (multiple copies are often kept in separate locations on the disk) and to allow for better concurrency.
Practically speaking, think about those times when you run Disk Utility on an HFS+ volume and it finds (and hopefully repairs) a bunch of errors. *That's bad, okay?* +*That's something that should not happen*+ with a modern, thoroughly checksummed, always-consistent-on-disk file system unless there are hardware problems (and a ZFS storage pool can actually deal with that as well). And yet it happens all the time with HFS+ disks in Mac OS X when various bits of metadata to get corrupted or become out of date.
Apple gets by year after year, tacking new features onto HFS+ with duct tape and a prayer, but at a certain point there simply has to be a successor—whether it's ZFS, a home-grown Apple file system, or something else entirely. My fingers are crossed for Mac OS X 10.7.
If Disk Utility was reliable in mapping out weak sectors (it is not) and report/log errors. But it doesn't and I trust my data to other file systems when possible. We've come to expect and depend on 3rd party utilities and that Apple First Aid doesn't fix every possible error.
Scanning one drive for errors can take a long time. Maybe it needs to be done, maybe in the background. With 2TB drives it gets worse. Spending hours to scan for errors??? I've set TechTool Pro to concurrently scan anywhere from one to a dozen volumes at once.
An ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of cure.

  • Is Aperture 3.4 compatible with Snow Leopard

I want to purchase Aperture and have a circa 2010 iMac running Snow Leopard.  The App Store says I need at least Lion, however I have seen postings that indicate Aperure 3.3 can run on Snow Leopard.

    Hi
Best is to buy Aperture 3 in DVD format. It's prior 3.3 and 3.4 and is easily available on amazon.com
Doing this as we speak as I have the same issue than you ... Only drawback is that you might be stuck with version 3.0 or something which has the early day issues/bugs you can imagine.
    Hope it helps

  • Aperture is very slow with Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I updated my MyBook with Snow Leopard. The (big) problem is that Aperture 2.1.4 is now very slow when I make change to images. CPU usage is very high and Aperture is unusable.
    What can I do?
    Thanks in advance.

zemitch - I also use one of the slowest machines capable of running SL, but my your graphics card may be different than mine. But I also store my masters on an external drive and that wasn't the issue.
I found rebuilding the database of Aperture when starting up helps a bit, but the biggest improvement is to do cropping/straightening AFTER the other adjustments. That changes my workflow, but with no crop/straighten, the other adjustments didn't not show the horrible slowdown.
    See if that helps you.

  • Lightroom 5 doesn't run on Snow Leopard

I'm sure this is well know amongst readers here but I had no idea until after I purchased and tried to install. Now waiting for a refund. How did I miss this? I've used Lightroom for over 4 years. I read all the reviews of the beta and now the release of Lightroom 5. Somehow I failed to notice that the program won't run on Snow Leopard on the Mac. Amazing! I haven't wanted to upgrade my Mac OS for multiple reasons. Now I'm on a dead end road with Lightroom. I'll have to figure that out. My oversight but I wish that Adobe and the reviewers had made this fact more obvious. Maybe they did. I'm disappointed.

There’s usually a System Requirements section on the LR purchase pages.
Trying out the beta and trying out LR in Trial mode are the ways to avoid such issues.

  • IPhoto - Video playing doesn't work with Snow Leopard.

Under Leopard, I use to be able to download photos and small video content from my camera straight into iPhoto. If I wanted to play a video in iPhoto, I just use to double click and Quicktime would open and play the video. Now, with Snow Leopard, nothing happens when I do this. Am I doing something stupid or is this another bug?
    Thanks.

For anybody who stumbles across this thread from Google:
I had the same issue using iPhoto '08 after upgrading to 10.6. I found a CNet article that describes the fix, which is basically that we have to re-install Quicktime 7 for use with '08 from the "Optional Installs" on the Snow Leopard disc, so you will end up with both Quicktime 10 and Quicktime 7 on your computer.
    The instructions are here:

  • Dictionary App doesn't work with Snow Leopard

Hey,  just upgraded my Macbook from leopard to Snow leopard and now the apple dictionary app is too out dated. Where can I find an update for this app so that it'll work with snow leopard?

Not sure why the proper Dictionary didn't install with the upgrade. One option is to install it now from the disc using Pacifist.
    Read Kappy's instructions for using.

  • After software update for Lexmark printer, cannot print document as a file is missing. My iMac runs with Snow Leopard.

I have a Lexmark 3500 - 4500 series printer connected to my iMac via USB (as my iMac won't do the printing wirelessly. My iMac runs with Mac OS X, Snow Leopard, Version 10.6.8.
A few days ago, there were several software updates that I have installed as there was mention that they were for Mac OS X Lion.
Today, I tried to print a document, and it failed. The error message was: "Missing component: /Library/Printers/Lexmark/Drivers/.Resources/3500-4500 Series Color 2.lut".
I have re-installed the software from Lexmark without success.
Has anyone had a similar issue who can advise me, please?
    Thank you.
    Philippe

Have you tried installing the Lexmark software from the Apple site:
Lexmark Printer Drivers v2.4 for Mac OS X v10.6
You are running 10.6 which the above link is for, maybe Lion (10.7) doesn't need everything that 10.6 does. Try re-installing using the above link.

  • Photo Editing, Photoshop elements 4.0 doesn't work with snow leopard?

Tried reinstalling photoshop elements after upgrading to snow leopard and message came back not compatible. ? , what version is that doesn't break you wallet and can do some decent photo editing including cutting and removing parts of images, pasting, etc. thanks

The latest version, 8, can be had for around $79, and is an amazing editor for the price. If you're not familiar with it's features I suggest you visit the site and see what it can do. Here's a list of several editors that support layers for editing:
Image Editors that support the use of layers:
    Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac - $80
    GraphicConverter- $35
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Acorn- $50
    Seashore- Open Source
IMO PSE gives you more bang for the buck. If I didn't have Photoshop (given to me) I would buy it in a second. Version 8 has more features that I use than PS CS3.

  • Aperture 2.1.4 with Snow Leopard Filmstrip Slider Not Working

    Hi all,
Not sure which one caused the problem the upgrade to Snow Leopard or Aperture 2.1.4 but here is my issue.
In Browser and Viewer mode with the browser set to Filmstrip I am not able to use either the arrows or the slider to scroll through the images in my projects. Sliding the bar over to the left or right just resets back to where it was. Click on the arrows to scroll left or right does nothing. If I switch to Grid orList view they work as expected. Anyone else seeing this issue ?? Thanks

Updated to snow leopard and had the same problem that when the thumbnails where placed on the bottom I could only scroll left or right when no picture was marked... so I placed the thumbnails to the left side and scrolling worked normally even with a a marked picture...I also had bad color sync problems and switching screens would cause my windows to become almost black and unreadable..... I reinstalled my Leopard clone drive shortly there after... oh well... it took a while before leopard was ready for professional use.... I didn't really expect Snow leopard to be different... I will check back in at 10.6.4 or so LOL

  • Aperture 2.1.4 with Snow Leopard opens but unable to customize toolbar. Nothing happens when I select view/customize.

Installed 2.1.4 on an iMac with 3GB Ram using 10.6.8 OSX.
    Experiencing two problems for now.
    1. Attempts to customize toolbar has no response. The boxes appear but no screen with the tools to import.
    2. I did the standard install over AP 1.5 and all library photos for 1.5 appear in 2.1.4 but
when opening a project/folder picture it will open and the "Loading" message appears but the wheel is not moving?
I'm using 2.1 over 3.0 because I have it and not ready to spend more until I get this working. I plan to go to LION OSX
    once Aperture functons correctly.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • QUICBOOKS 2007 doesn't run under snow leopard

My register now says I have made deposits of $8, 456, 782.4301 AND they were made on 2/03/36. Intuit says "too bad so sad, we are going to release a patch for QB 2009 for MAC that MAY fix the problem, we won't support 2007"
Bottom line, snow leopard has been the buggiest and worst OS installation on a MAC EVER! What a joke. It's getting more like WINDOZE every day. I frankly never bought windoze updates until I had to because they were always a mess but apple was great and I never worried. This has been and continues to be a nightmare.

I wouldn't blame Apple and this is Intuit's fault. Most of Apple's partners had either confirmed their apps would work with 10.6 or have published ETAs for fixes. Intuit did neither and is apparently using the shipment of 10.6 to force people like you and I to upgrade to QB2009. (I also have QB2007). Intuit has consistently underperformed vis a vis Mac users....Intuit competitors should see this as a great opportunity. I'll not buy an Intuit product again.
Oh, and re: 10.6....I've installed this OS on three MBP, all installed without issue and users have had no problems. Total time, 2 1/2 hours. I once "upgraded" 15 PC to Vista, which took more than a week and some of the laptops were never the same again.
