Aperture duplicating photo stream photos?

Hi. I recently acquired Aperture 3.4, and i'm very confused by the photo stream feature. I've always had some problem with duplicates, be it on an iPad, or iPhoto, but now the problem is even worse. Whenever I delete a photo from Photo Stream, every other photo in the stream gets duplicated. I replicated this to the point where every photo was copied about 6 times before deactivating Photo Stream altogether. I really like the idea of the feature and hope a fix for the problem/a solution to some stupid mistake i'm making comes soon. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some help with this.

This is not a problem I have ever seen and if it was widespread would make photostream unusable.
It does not seem to be an Aperture specific problem, you would better of posting in the iCloud community.

  • Aperture duplicating photo's

Has anyone else noticed Aperture duplicating photo's?
I imported about 1000 from a digital camera card earlier today and I'm just going through them now and can see a number of duplications (between 3 and 7 copies of each of the images that have been duplicated) all with the same name. I'm going through deleting them manually at the moment, is there a way to get it to check and delete duplications automatically? How do I stop it from doing it in the future as well?

I would highly recommend to never use that command -- just simply eject and then reformat the card in the camera.
Plus, if something did not get imported correctly, your one and only source to reimport has been wiped. Recommended workflow is to import, check the results, backup.  Only then should you delete the contents of the card.

  • I need to minimize the space photos take on my MacBook Pro OSx 10.7.  They are in iPhoto, Aperture, Pictures/Photo Library, etc.  Are they taking space in all of these locations?

Are they taking space in all of these locations?
It depends on how you are using iPhoto and Aperture.
iPhoto and Aperture each create their own library files, and the default location for them is in /users/youruseraccount/Pictures
You can configure iPhoto and Aperture to use the same Library file, in which case your photos are only stored once.  But if you are using iPhoto & Aperture with independent library files, you may in fact be duplicating your storage.
The second consideration is whether or not you have configured iPhoto and/or Aperture as reference libraries, in which case their library files only reference photos you have stored in other places on your hard drive.  Setting them up as reference libraries does not duplicate the photos inside the library files.

  • IOS 7 duplicating photos

Just updated my iPad to iOS 7 and  now all of my photos taken in the last few months are duplicated, ones older than that are fine
Any ideas or just have to wait for an update?

I'm noticing this issue as well.  Hoping for a fix/resolution/update.
    Interesting items to note:
I'm not getting duplication of every photo
I see different duplication between my iPhone 5 and my iPad 4.  Both devices get synchronized identically back to my Mac, where I synchronize all photos from iPhoto.
Deleting a duplicated photo in my Photo Stream didn't remove the duplicate from Moments in Photos.

How do I delete duplicated photos in my photo library?

If you want to just remove them form youriPhone or iPad then click on your device at top right and select the photos tab. You can then choose which photos sync out to your device in terms of Albums, Events or faces.
If you want to control which pictures share to your Apple TV then in itunes File, Home Sharing, Choose files to share with Apple Tv
If you remove them completly from everywhere then delete within the source app. Most commonly iPhoto or Aperture on a mac.

  • Duplicated Photos Cannot Be In Different Projects? Why?

If I duplicate a photo, either duplicate version or new version from master, that photo cannot be placed into a different project without dragging the other duplicates with it. Why?
This is NOT a stack. I know what a stack is. This isn't it.
Why does it do this? And is there a way to break the bonds between these duplicated photos?

Please read and follow DLScreative's advice above.
It may help you to mentally rename the Aperture storage containers. "Project" is, imho, misleading (and poorly chosen). Think of them simply as "boxes of shots". In the introduction to Aperture in the Help file (highly recommended reading prior to using Aperture in one's work), the general recommendation is made to make one Project for each shoot, so that if you take a walk at dawn, and then go to work and make a series of product shots of a new dog shampoo, and then your family surprises you at lunch (it's your birthday), when you upload your shots that afternoon you import them into three Aperture boxes: "Dawn in the Park", "Scampoo Mock-up", and "Birthday Surprise at Office".
A "Project" is just a box in which you store your (never altered) digital negatives.
Of course you have actual projects (small p) on which you are working: the Scampoo account, and in your spare time a book about the changes in city parks over the past quarter century. To organize your work on these, use Aperture's Folders and Albums.
In general, then (if this works for you) Projects are for input and storage, while Albums are for development and output.
Aperture's organizing tools give the user who is willing to learn how to use them the means to create a robust and flexible workflow.

  • Difference between iPhoto and Aperture and photo storage

I'm thinking about upgrading from iPhoto to Aperture but I'm a little confused about the differences in the way photo edits are handled. The iPhoto to Aperture page says that Aperture stores photo changes in one photo rather than duplicating them, therefore taking up less space. BUT they also use a unified shared library. So how is it possible for Aperture to handle edits differently if the library is now shared between the two applications?

Aperture may save you some space if you choose not to generate previews, but then you won't be able to integrate with other apps.
As Terence Devlin says. But being able to manage the Previews is quite a space saver. In Aperture you can selectively generate previews only for the photos that you want to share with other applications, and you can specify the size and quality of the previews you want. iPhoto on the other hand will always create previews for all photos, and all in very high quality. In Aperture I delete previews for redundant photos and keep the previews only for my highest ratest photos that I am likely to share with other applications and want to use as a screensaver or slideshow.
If you share your photo library between Aperture and iPhoto and edit a photo in iPhoto, then iPhoto will add a preview for this photo, even if you disabled previews in Aperture.

  • Duplicating Photos in iPhoto '08 is rough - any solutions?

Two problems: One is that duplicating photos in iPhoto doesn't always work. Usually when I highlight a photo and select "Duplicate" I get a new version of the photo. Sometimes it does nothing at all, and other times it take me out of the event that I'm viewing making it so that I have to go back in and find the photo (which takes time. Are there updates or work-arounds for these problems?
2 - This is the bigger one. I select a photo and choose "Edit in external editor", Photoshop opens with the photo that I'm editing right there. Beautiful! But then I make my edits and try to save it under a different name (Save As) -- Where did the photo go? Isn't there a way to get it to save back into the iPhoto library? Or do I have to save to my desktop and reimport it (which creates a new event, so I then have to drag back to the original event.... big hassle).
Any suggestions on either or both issues? Thanks very much.

There have been issues reported with duplicating photos in iPhoto - search the iPhoto forums for Duplicating
The bigger question is why you are doing lots of duplicates. Generally it is not necessary since iPhoto ALWAYS maintains the original and you can always revert to it if you need to - maybe you are making duplicates that are uncessary?

When you edit in an external editor you just save (not save as) and the photo goes back to iPhoto and iPhoto maintains the original and tracks the modified version and everything is cool - when you do a save as you break the chain and iPhoto no longer knows about your photo or how it relates to the photos that you started with - so if you do that you have to reimport the new photo into iPhoto (just as you would any other new photo) and iPhoto will now maintain it as an original and track any modifications you do to it (along with the one you started with which is a different original and maybe modified version)
So I think the answer to both questions may be a better understanding of how iPhoto works and your workflow

  • How to sort photo events by date and avoid having duplicated photos on iPhone 6+

How to sort photo events bby date and avoid having duplicated photos. Before the sorting by date worked perfectly by specifying "sort events by date ascending" in iPhoto from my Mac. Now the sorting from iPhoto has no more effect on the iPhones. And photos are often duplicated when synchronisin. Before these problems didn't happen. How to do?

You can not  --  neither automatically or manually - you should never be in the masters folder and there is never a need to be - iPhoto is a SQLite database and it's database structure is determined by it (and changes from time to time) - use the supported access methods (direct access to the photo files is not supported and never has been) - either using iPhoto or using the media browser in the lower left hand corner of every open/attach/iupload window
It is CRITICAL that you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder or any program other than iPhoto

  • How to email Aperture library photos from iPhoto

Want to use Aperture library photos (which I can easily view from iPhoto 11) in the beautiful email systems of iPhoto. When I select the Aperture library photos and select Share-email nothing happens, then the Share-email menu becomes grayed out. According to the help available all aperture library shots are fully available for use in iPhoto 11. Any suggestions? Thanks

You hav to move the photos from Aperture to iPhoto to do this.
    1. Using the Media Browser you can drag from the browser to the iPhoto Window - this yields the Aperture Previews
    2. Export from Aperture to the Finder, import to iPhoto.
That said if you use Apple's Mail.app you can
A: Take advantage of the Stationery feature, which has more templates than iPhoto, more varied thatn iPhoto and others can be downloaded
B: It's a full mail application, with an outbox and so on
C: You can email from Aperture, and so avoid this loop into iPhoto.

  • The Mystery of the Duplicating Photos with Varying resolutions and Sizes by Sony Z1 Compact

about the duplicating photos with varying resolutions and Sizes problem... I have a band-aid fix to this without deleting everything in your  phone. What you do is to find time to actually MANUALLY DELETE the extra photos. Don't delete it by Taping on the Album app and deleting everything on the home photos.
Instead tap the album then on the UPPER LEFT CORNER (If you've updated the albums) tap the 3 bars beside the album icon to access the album menu, then tap the FOLDERS choice.
You should see alot of folders with Thumbnails named with numbers and different resolutions. Delete all the folders labeled as Thumbnails or cache. *note that you cannot delete whole folders but the folder gets deleted automatically after all the contents inside it is deleted
Afterwards, go to your phone's settings->App-> Album
Then tap the Clear Data button
    After that restart your phone.
This actually "fixes" the problem for a while but usually after a few restarts or Phone charge the folders comeback and you have to redo the whole process again. But the folders that are made becomes fewer than the 1st occurrence of this problem and deleting the photos shouldn't take as long as the 1st.
Honestly i think this is definitely an Application bug and should be fixed by Sony, since you know its their built in app for Multimedia

yea that also helps since it's a bug caused by the new update. I'm just waiting for Sony to fix the bug, i don't really mind deleting the thumbnails

  • I'd like to remove a thin line that is part of the page design in one of Aperture's photo books.  I can't seem to make it happen.  Any suggestions?

I'd like to remove a thin line that is part of the page design in one of Aperture's photo books.  I can't seem to make it happen.  Any suggestions?

The mouse that came with my Mac does not have a right click feature. When I try to highlight and click, it just opens the link I don't want anymore. What I want to do is remove unwanted links from the top bar. For example, I no longer use GoodSearch or myEarthLink, but I can't delete them. There are also some links that never should have found their way up there, and I don't know how they ended up there, and I can't remove them either. I've read through a ton of questions and answers, and I can't find one that addresses the problem. With my Safari browser, all I have to do to remove an unwanted link is to click and drag it to the trash. It doesn't appear to work that way with Firefox, to my chagrin. I hope this better explains my question. Maybe that will give you a better insight into a solution.

  • Why is my iPhoto Library duplicating photos

why is my iPhoto library duplicating photo's, sometimes 3 times ?

Your iPhoto library is not duplicating anything. Give virtually no information the only guess is that you imported an old iPhoto library into a new one.  NEVER import one photo library into another one. If you did and still have the old library you can easily recover. Drag the library you messed up to the desktop and drag the old library to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto
