Aperture - Export the edited images with changes

Hello
I recently purchased Aperture and have a SLR camera (Pentax K-X) and a GPS logger (Holux M-241). I record my images in DNG format (Adobe RAW format).
I've tried to import my images into Aperture, where I've added commentary and edited my pictures. Now I would like to export my photos (originals), where I can either save images as "Include IPTC" or "Create IPTC4XMP sidecar file". I might have saved my comments, but the changes I've made the pictures are not appearing when I imported the images again from the folder where I have exported my edited images (related to exports, I have chosen "Create IPTC4XMP sidecar file "). Why can not I see my edited photos?
Is it not possible to save the XMP sidecar file as embedded in your DNG files, which I know you can do with Adobe Photoshop?

What you want to do is a contradiction in itself - in Aperture you either export the originals or the versions. The originals will give you exactly the original images that you imported, optionally with IPTC added annotions, but without edits.
If you want to export the edited image, you will have to render the edited version and to export a version, not an original. You have many presets for the format of the edited version to choose from, but not a raw format. The closest you can get will be exporting as tiff or psd original size.

  • How can I export an edited image to a file?

I can't seem to find a way in iPhoto 09 do this. Can I export an edited image to a file, keeping the edits intact, or do I have to use a 3rd party editing app when I edit from inside iPhoto 09?
I would prefer to use iPhoto's editing tools so should I import previously cropped images into iPhoto? If yes, what file should I use? I was wondering if anyone does this on a regular basis and if there issues doing this.
I like the editing tools in iPhoto very much. In other apps I have always cropped, resized, corrected levels and a bit of color. I am not a power user by any means and I am close to doing this all in iPhoto if I could only export the edited image to a file.
The reason I want to do this is because the printing portion of my work flow is to upload files to my merchant who prints them and are ready for nearby pickup within an hour. This is all done at a very reasonable price and the color accuracy is very close.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jim

You can edit from iPhoto by dragging to the desktop or exporting using the File -> Export command, setting the Kind to anything except original.
But you probably don’t need to:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • I've been editing images with ease for a long time but now the changes are not being saved.

I've been editing images with ease for a long time but now the changes are not being saved.
Also, it is not liking me adding a large ammount of images in one go?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

yeah, in itunes if you select your phone, you should get tabs across the top for what to sync, under photos uncheck the box

  • Workflow - Aperture to Photoshop, edited image back to Aperture?

    Hi experts...
I'm sure I am doing something wrong here, I just don't know what it is...hoping you can give me some advice.
Let's say I have a RAW file in Aperture (a referenced file, if it makes a difference) called "A". I want to tweak this photo and then post to Flickr. For various reasons, I choose to edit this particular image in Photoshop. So when I tell Aperture to edit "A" in an external editor, it creates a version (I think?) called A.TIF and then takes me into Photoshop.
After my edits in Photoshop, I want to save the image as a JPEG for exporting to Flickr. I save it as "SomeDescriptiveName.JPG". Before I exit, Photoshop asks me if I want to save the changes I made to the TIF. "Naaaah," I think...I've got the JPEG.
Now, here's where it goes sideways. I would hope/expect that when I return to Aperture, "SomeDescriptiveName.JPG" is 'linked' to the original version, or at least appears in the catalog. It doesn't. I have to import "SomeDescriptiveName.JPG" into Apeture.
This seems really messy - is there some way to have the edited image show up in A3 and have it linked (version, whatever) to the original? If not, is there a way to at least have the edited image automatically show up in the Aperture catalog?

Aperture expects the same file format back. In PS, just close the file (save when asked) and it will show up in Aperture with the PS changes (and in the format in which it was sent to PS). You can then use Aperture to export (in any way you want).
Alternatively you can just export from Aperture and then save/save-as from PS. In this case your edited photo is not in your Aperture Library. This method is generally considered less desirable.
Here is the relevant section from the Help file:
*To use an external editor in Aperture*
Select an item in the Browser.
    Choose Photos > Edit with > {application name} (or press Command-Shift-O).
Aperture creates a new master (leaving the original unchanged), converts it to the chosen file format, and then opens the file in the external editor. The file is tracked as a new master stacked with the original master.
When you’ve finished modifying the image, audio, or video file in the external application, save the file.
The saved file is automatically updated in Aperture.

  • Lightroom 2.7 exporting the wrong images

Hi. I've been using Lightroom since the first beta, currently running LR2.7 on a MacBook Pro. I installed the new CS5 (Web Premium suite) a little more than a week ago, and I'm suddenly having problems exporting images to JPEG from Lightroom.
Images import and edit correctly, look great, nothing gives me an error message. But when I try to export a single image, the first instance (after I've launched the application) will export correctly. After that, there seems to be about a 70% chance that subsequent attempts will export the wrong image. The file is correctly named, but the image will be a duplicate of the last successful export.
If I try to export a batch of four or five, the first image will usually export correctly, sometimes the last image will export correctly, but anything in between will be a duplicate of either a previous export, or the first image.
I assumed it was a memory issue, shut down the Mac and restarted, then opened Lightroom as the only active application. Same thing happened. I can export correctly in other applications such as Photoshop and Flash, but Lightroom won't. Activity Monitor doesn't show anything out of line for memory usage.
When the problem started happening I was running 2.6; I upgraded to 2.7 to see if that would fix it--it doesn't.
Any ideas? I'd rather not delete and reinstall Lightroom and rebuild my libraries if I can avoid it, especially if that might not solve the problem.
    Help!
    Thanks--
    --cynthia

Hmmmm. I've tried various naming conventions and I'm still looking for consistency in the way the error occurs--could have something to do with naming presets, but it's acting like something gets stuck in the cache. What puzzles me is that I export files daily, haven't changed cameras, cards, file locations, my workflow is the same, and I've never had this problem. The only thing that's changed (that I'm aware of) is the installation of CS5--the error seems to have started when I started using "Edit in Photoshop." (And again, that was never a problem before)
The files all have different names, the ones assigned by the cameras.
This morning I rebooted, didn't launch any of the CS5 apps. Launched Lightroom, chose 7 files at random and exported them with the "filename" preset. They exported correctly. I selected them again, and tried another export, this time giving them a custom name, and they exported correctly with a sequence number attached. Tried them with "Custom Name-Sequence," and they worked again. I exported a single file with the same preset, again it exported correctly.
Then I switched folders, selected 7 different images and exported them with a new "Custom Name-sequence," and this time Lightroom exported EIGHT files. The sixth was the previously-exported single-file, so the exporter had gotten the first 5 right, inserted the old file in the sixth position, and then correctly exported the last two.
Three more tests exported everything correctly, which is far fewer errors than yesterday. I'm kinda stumped.

  • Aperture Loses iPhoto Edited Images

    Hello,
I need help on importing iPhoto libraries.
I have 22 iPhoto libraries (iPhoto 8.1.2, 140GB total for all libraries) on an iMac 27, OS 10.6.8, and am importing into Aperture 3.2.2.  I imported each iPhoto library separately and rebuilt their thumbnails before each import.  It was my understanding that Aperture would import the original iPhoto images as well as the edited images along with metadata.  Now I have discovered that in my case it does this sometimes but not always.  When it does work Aperture shows two images in a stack, the iPhoto edited image (with the keywords "iPhoto Edited" added, and the iPhoto original image (with the keywords "iPhoto Original" added).  This is what I would expect.  However, there are many images that I edited in iPhoto that show up in Aperture as just a image, the one that was edited in iPhoto.  The iPhoto original image is not there.  Aperture has added the keywords "iPhoto Converted" (whatever that means) and "iPhoto Original" (which it is not) to this photo.  If I go back to these images in iPhoto and do a revert to original, iPhoto reverts the edit back to the (true) original image. So,both the original and edited images are in iPhoto.
I have rebooted the Mac and repaired permissions but that didn't help.
Getting my Aperture library setup has been a struggle and I appreciate all the help I have gotten.  It looks like I still need more.  Thanks!
    Mike

    Hello Leonie,
You were right on - many thanks!  I thought I was facing having to start over again.
I have found Apple's Aperture User's Guide very useful but nowhere in its 907 pages have I found your instructions described or "iPhoto Converted" defined.
It works as you described and I have some comments: (1) After the resetting all adjustments in Aperture the new version continues to have these same keyword tags as before the reset.  The adjustment badge is gone and the version number is appended to the image name.  (2) I also used "New Version from Master" on some iPhoto edited photos.  This creates a new version; however, all the adjustments, keywords and badges were deleted, but the version number is appended to the name. (3) I tried "Show Master Image".  This apparently only works in Split View & Viewer (dimmed out in Browser).  When I do this the adjustments are apparently not changed except for crops which are removed (this seems odd).  Keywords and badges are not changed.  There is no version number, of course, and the image is identified as a master image.  (4) I am curious about why using Aperture's iPhoto Browser to import photos results in two photos, the iPhoto original and the iPhoto edited.  They have the appropriate iPhoto Edited or iPhoto Original tags; however, except for rotation and cropping the iPhoto adjustments appear to have been reset.  The edited ones do not have an adjustment badge, even though it was adjusted in iPhoto.  All the images have a keyword badge and Aperture has added a keyword which it the title of the iPhoto album or event the photo came from.  They all have a Master Image label at the top.  I duplicated one of the iPhoto edited images.  The duplicate displayed a Master Image label and Reset All Adjustment was dimmed.
I would appreciate your observations on these comments.
Aperture is an impressive piece of software and thanks to your help I think I am finally ready to start using it!

  • When saving an image in PS CS 6, and going back to Lightroom 5. The original image and the edited image are at the end of the line up.

I'm using a Mac, Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS 6. I've started having an issue with the line up in Lightroom 5 after saving an image from PS CS 6. For some reason when I save the edited image form CS 6 it's taking the edited image and the original image and putting it at the end of the line up in Lightroom. If I take the edited image and move it to the right of the original it will put both of them back in the line up where they should be. How do I fix this. I've been looking in the menu for some kind of setting  with no luck.

  • The edit/fill with content-aware

The edit/fill with content-aware works when I edit the photo file using “edit in Photoshop cc”, instead of using “open as smart object in Photoshop:.
It brings up to my next question: what is the difference between “open as smart object” and “edit in Photoshop cc”? Thanks.

Edit in photoshop, brings the image into photoshop as single image. Whereas bringing it into photoshop as a smart objects, places that single image into a wrapper. This wrapper is an object that keeps the underlying image safe. No matter what you do other than removing the smart object, keeps the image safe.
What I mean by that, is if you scale, rotate and a filter, etc. it is applied to the object it self, not the image. Which allows you to change your mind and revert back to the original image at any time in the future, as long as you save in a format that supports smart objects, layers, and transparency. Which limits it down to psd, tiff, and pdf.

  • Full screen mode in Camera Roll doesnt show the edited images

    Hi,
I am using iPhone 5 with the latest iOS.
In the Camera Roll, thumbnails show the edited images, but when I see the same image in full screen, the edit vanishes and an unedited image shows.
    How can I fix this?

There is no way to remove the white border in Develop module. If it annoys you so much and you like to have the option of removing it then I would suggest that submit a Feature Request https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

After doing some editing in Lightroom I want to continue the edit in CS 5 but Lightroom is not exporting the edited version, this has not happened before, what am I doing wrong please? anybody

You should be getting an error message that PS CS5 requires a higher version of ACR with two options "render using Lightroom" or "open anyway". You should choose the first option. If you are not seeing the error message then go to your Lightroom prefrences >General Tab> under Prompts> select "Reset all warning dialogs", then try the edit in function again.

  • Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

  • Exporting the Places map with attached photos

Is there a way to export the places map, with photos, to a web page or mobile me so a person can click on a pin and see the photo, just like it works when running iPhoto?

Google's free photo service, Picasaweb, offers the kind of the map and photos you seem to be looking for. For example:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/albumMap?uname=dankohn&aid=5560978952766944097#ma p
Unfortunately, the Picasa exporter for iPhoto strips out the geotagging information on upload. So, instead, you can use Phoshare to export your pictures to a folder with full metadata included. Then, use the free Picasa software to upload to Google.
