Aperture export to Photoshop error

Hi all,
This is a bit of a very specialised issue that I noticed - so only an issue for the very high end user. But big enough of a problem that I have to change to Lightroom until this issue is fixed...
Following Problem statement. I get an error in calcutions in advanced Alpha Channel Masking... see attached images to understand the problem
Here is what I do to get the Alpha Mask:
1) From Aperture export Image to Photoshop
2) You want to calculate a certain coloured area to do some very subtle editing - say a skin rash
3) You select Green Channel for highest contrast between rash and skin
4) You go in Calculations and on merged layers in inverted mode you do a multiply calculation into a new selection
5) You get a selection. You want to refine it
6) You do calculations again and this time on the selection layers (not inverted) you do an overlay calculations into a new channel
You see that the Mask has square patches - misaligned information ...
I don't understand what they are because when you look in RGB there is no error.
Also note that this must be related to Aperture - because when I import the .NEF file directly from the camera into Photoshop or via Lightroom I don't get this issue.
(I am using a NIKON D700)
Second more minor but annoying issue - skin colours are way more yellowish than in Lightroom ...
Can anyone fix this or point to how it can be fixed? Should Apple be notified?

I also wanted to add an image of how the masks looks like - i.e. without issues - when you import into Photoshop via Lightroom

  • Aperture export to photoshop explanation

    Hi
I need to fully understand the Aperture to Photoshop round trip.
    I have Aperture 3 and Photoshop CS5
    My external editor is PS.
I understand and have used the normal convention of exporting my Aperture image to Photoshop editing it then saving and having it appear back in AP3 as an additional image with the PS edits.
However if I get half way through an edit in PS and want to save it to work on later, what method do I use. I tried using "save as" in PS but it didn't re manifest it self back in to AP3.
Can someone explain exactly how the PS roundtrip works.
Is it that once I finished in PS I MUST use the "save" command only for it to appear with edits in AP3. Then when I want to do more edits in PS via AP3 do I go into AP3 select the new image and export again into PS to finish the edits ?
Does it keep the layers ?
I seem to remember it does keep the layers, but if I re edit using AP3 it flattens it.. Is this correct ?
    Thanks

You can reopen the image by clicking to Edit it in PS, or you can open Photoshop, click on Recent, and open that way, if you have not overwritten the Recent entries.
Layers can be retained in the A3 Library, but only so long as no other operations, such as using a plugin on the same image, or some edits within A3 have been done subsequently. A number of things in Aperture can result in flattening the image in the Library.

  • Aperture Export to Photoshop for PC and then Import Back to Aperture

    Hi,
I need some advice: I have all my photos on Aperture 2. The person we hire to edit our photos works with Photoshop on Windows 7. What is the best approach so that I can export the aperture master files for him to enhance the pictures in Photoshop on his PC and then bring those edited photos back into our Aperture copy?
    Thanks,
    Aperture Learner

    ApertureLearner wrote:
However, if you do it, what would be the most efficient way to do it?
Your best bet (if you are making adjustments in Aperture prior to sending) will be to export as PSD, 8-bit (to allow all filter compatibility), in the color space requested by your Windows 7 contract person. Note - Windows 7 has it's own ideas on handling color, so color space in this case is important.
If you are sending RAW files, then the person using Photoshop on Windows 7 will probably be using Adobe Camera Raw to process the RAW data. There is an obvious difference in the RAW processing theory used by Adobe when compared to the Apple RAW processing theory. The default in Adobe Camera Raw is very 'flat' when compared to Apple's. Note - I have significant experience using PS on Windows 7 at work.
Basically, you will be receiving from the Windows 7 user a re-interpreted image file. If this is what you intend, then you need to decide whether you want to wait to import into Aperture until after receiving the files back from him / her. As Allan inferred, you won't be able to keep any keywords or adjustments made in Aperture if you send the Master files. The best you could do is import to a project with the original and then the final file done in PS on Win 7.
Another issue that may or may not matter to you, is that you will not be able to utilize any layers that you receive in the returned file unless you resend the original received (Windows 7) Master file. This is because Aperture flattens all exported files and internally created versions (one layer without transparency).

  • Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing?

Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing? I recently had a crash of CS5 Bridge. It seems to have caused a problem with Aperture. So, I reinstalled both CS5 and Aperture. Before installing CS5 I uploaded NEF (Nikon RAW) files to Aperture. Now I have reinstalled CS5 I want to use it to edit the same photos from Aperture, as I know more about editing in CS5 than Aperture. I tried to export to CS5 but, Aperture would not give me  that option. At least I could not find it.

You can set an external editor in the "Aperture Preferences -> Export " settings.
    Just set this to CS5.
The resullt of your external edit will create a new version of your image.

  • How do I import Aperture Library into Photoshop Elements 12?

New to Photoshop Elements 12.How do I import Aperture Library into Photoshop Elements 12?

You would really need to export copies from the Aperture database, to folders on your hard drive and then import them into Organizer.
Or continue with Aperture (don’t use Organizer) and simply send photos to the Elements Editing app as required.

  • Faded colours on export to Photoshop

Sorry if this has been covered before.....
When I export to Photoshop (Cmd-Shft-O) Aperture correctly creates the TIFF and opens it in Photoshop. However the Photoshop version has very much less colour saturation or something, the colour just look all washed out.
I'm sure this is something to do with Colorsync/colour workflow settings, but I'm not expert enough to know what the problem is. Can anyone help?

+Menu > File > Print > PDF > Save to folder as TIFF or jpeg+
As to printing problems: check the default printer; or what printer you have selected to print to in the Pages' Printer Setup; networking; plugs are in; power is on.

  • Lightroom JPEG export VS Photoshop Image Processor

    Hey guys:
Long time photoshop and lightroom user (long time user of all things Adobe). First post here in the forums. I did a search for my question but I think it was too specific, so it returned zero results.
My question is about Lightroom's JPEG export vs Photoshops Image Processor. When I export a RAW file to JPEG from Lightroom, the file size is freaking huge. The JPEG is as big as my original RAW file (~25mb). Settings are set to default - 100 quality. Everything else remains untouched.
However, when I use Photoshop's image processor (I launch it through Bridge, easier that way for me) and process the RAW images that way, my JPEGs are roughly 5-10mb in size. Settings in Image Processor are quality 10 and thats it. No actions being run or anything.
Can anyone shed some light as to why Lightroom exports JPEGs that are roughly 2-4 times the size of Photoshop's JPEGs? My initial thoughts are that the 100 quality setting in Lightroom is more like Photoshop's quality 12 (that always makes me think of Spinal Tap - "Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?" "These go to eleven.") Ideally, exporting out of Lightroom would be much easier for my workflow.
    Thanks in advance.

You are correct: LR Quality 100 = PS Quality 12
Despite LR having 101 Quality settings (0 to 100) it actually only has 12 Quality settings the same as PS 'Baseline Standard':

I keep a small copy of the above table taped to my monitor. I chose the numbers under the 'LR' column for the 12 steps (not AA's) to make it easier to remember. In actuality ANY number in the LR Range column will produce the same results for each step.
Under the 'Typical Reduction' column notice the small amount of reduction for PS 6 (LR 47-53%) Quality setting. If interested why AND why you probably shouldn't use PS 7 (LR 54-61%) Quality setting see this post:

  • Aperture 3 or Photoshop Elements (Mac) ?

    Hi.
I'm 17, and I'm a budding photographer... I was just wondering, what would be the best programme for editing photos (simply) ? - Aperture 3 or PhotoShop Elements?
I know Photoshop would probably be best, but I can't afford £600/£700 for a disc or however much it is!
    Cheers!

    Hi scottalter,
They are different categories of programs. Comparing them isn't meaningful. PhotoShop (and Elements) is a pixel-level editor. Aperture is a digital asset manager, with some photo editing (not pixel editing) built in. Aperture is akin to Lightroom.
The photo editing means that you start with something (your original photo), apply a change to it (adjust brightness for example) and end up with a different picture. You can only modify your photos in existing, predefined ways. PhotoShop allows you to add things to your photo that it didn't start with.
That being said, Aperture may still be the tool for you. Its management is great, and there are a lot of adjustments that are probably exactly what you are looking for.
If you can express what it is you are looking for, we members of the forum can probably tell you if Aperture is going to do it or not.

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop error

Computer crashed yesterday and now I am getting "File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" error and unable to opening in PS CS5 or Fireworks CS5. Any ideas? Also tried the PS repair download and would rather not pay $30 to find out it can't do it. Seems like a common error but in all of the forums I haven't found a solid answer. Appreciate some real advise.
    Thanks in advance

This is the free app that all the PSD repair hacks are based on: Telegraphics - Free plugins for Photoshop & Illustrator...and other software
There are 3 possible reasons for that error: file corruption on disk, more than 8000 layers in the file, or a layer somehow went over 30,000 pixels in a PSD file (which would be legal in PSB, but not in PSD).

  • FIM multivalue attribute export to SQL - error 0x80230808

    Hi,
    Running FIM Synchronization Service v 4.0.3531.2 - Update1.
This instance is a simple setup, import from AD, export to SQL. I'm trying to export two multivalue attributes, one is a normal multivalue string, second is a reference attribute (member). My anchor is the GUID from AD in string format, perfectly fitting
    into uniqueidentifier sql datatype.
Since I wanted to have the member values in the multivalue table also stored in a uniqueidentifier column (for further linking) I had to create two columns, one as "uniqueidentifier" and second as "text". FIM configuration went smoothly,
I defined a member multivalue reference attribute and selected the uniqueidentifier column as "String attribute column", and the other multivalue string attribute had to be linked as "Large string attribute column" and I pointed it to the
    text datatype column.
Synchronization completed without errors, export step properly exported all multivalue string attributes to the text column, BUT when it came to exporting the GUID reference attribute to the uniqueidentifier column it exported only the first value showing
a "dn-attribute-failure" error. From the FIM GUI it was only showing the error number = 0x80230808.
I did a SQL trace to see what's going on. I re-run the export and saw FIM trying to delete all the values for this attribute multiple times with:
    DELETE from [tblAD_Multivalue]  WHERE [objectGUID] = N'{B011B424-5B2F-43A9-84C5-8605A570487B}' AND [attributeName] = N'member'
followed by doing cursor magic with the first value that was already added:
    exec sp_cursor 180150007,4,0,N'tblAD_Multivalue',@objectGUID='B011B424-5B2F-43A9-84C5-8605A570487B',@attributeName='member',@guidValue='2E52A484-C7F6-49C0-AAC8-0A30C732A385'
After repeating the above for over 10 times it added a export_error_detail:
    update [mms_connectorspace] set [export_error_detail] = N'<export-status>
    <cd-error>
    <error-code>0x80230808</error-code><error-literal>[Modify] Failed operation</error-literal>
    </cd-error>
    </export-status>
    ',[count_export_error_retries] = 0,[is_export_error] = 1,[initial_export_error_date] = '2011-02-12 21:36:08.995',[last_export_error_date] = '2011-02-12 21:36:08.995',[export_error_code] = -2145189885,[unapplied_export_batch_number] = 1,[unapplied_export_sequencer_number] = 2162572,[original_export_batch_number] = 1,[original_export_sequencer_number] = 2162572,[current_export_batch_number] = 4,[current_export_sequence_number] = 2216213 where ([object_id] = '6F5C98E3-38FF-4F32-95F6-B5A315B71D7A')
I tried manually adding one of the following values directly to SQL and it worked, so I'm not really sure what's wrong here.
    Any ideas?
    Piotr

    Hi Markus,
yes, I know all about the architecture to allow multi-value attributes to be exported to SQL.
Everything works when I have just one string value column in my tblAD_Multivalue. The problem is that my anchor in the primary table is a GUID in a uniqueidentifier SQL column type (in FIM MV it's a string), so when I'm exporting multivalue reference attributes
to SQL I would like the GUID values also to go to a uniqueidentifier type column. That's why I set up the secondary column in the multi-value table with text datatype, so FIM recognizes it as a "large string column". I think I did everything within
the guidelines, so I was puzzled when I saw that error.
Consider this simple example, you're exporting users and groups from AD, you're anchor data type is uniqueidentifier, and you need to export the member attribute and the proxyAddresses attribute. What would you do to allow future SQL joins to calculate membership?
hope this explains a bit more this scenario, would appreciate any suggestions.

  • USING DISCOVERER DESKTOP CAN'T EXPORT AND GET ERROR ORA-00000

we use a win 2000 server to export discoverer reports by command-line methods. In the past ,everything is ok. But from last week , we found some reports always keep in export phase and can't export anything, also with ora-00000 error.
there are 2 things should be mentioned:
    1. in the past , these reports can export without any error
    2. we can export the same reports normally on another server(but we don't want to change server for some reason)
I know Oracle suggest we update to discoverer 10g, but it can't tell me why another client can export normally
    so where is the cause?
    Discoverer Desktop version - 4.1.46.08.00
    EBS version - 11.5.9

    Hi
    Presumably you have tried rebooting?
If you have windows updates set to automatic it is possible that one of the recently applied updates has done this.
    Best wishes

  • Saving to Aperture after using Photoshop as an External Editor

I'd be grateful for guidance please. I use Aperture but sometimes use the external editor (Photoshop in my case). When I have finished editing in Photoshop what is the best way to get the finished photograph back into Aperture? Do I have to do another import or is there a way to get the saved photo as another version next to the original but including the work I did in Photoshop. If it is possible I would expect this to be a flattened image (ie not preserving Photoshop layers). Thoughts and guidance would be much appreciated.

The following series of events occurs without fail in aperture 3 and CSPS4:
I place a single JPG image on desktop. Then, in aperture, I create a new project named TEST. I then import this single JPG into aperture, making the choice to store the master on the desktop, rather than in the aperture library.
The JPG image now is in aperture in the PROJECT "TEST". I then select this single image in aperture and send it to CSPS4 to edit.
I can see aperture write a new image to the project with the same name as the JPG but the suffix is now TIFF (note two "f" in this suffix). This happens as photoshop is opening and i can briefly see the TIFF file in the aperture browser before photoshop completes opening.
I then edit the "TIFF" image in photoshop (which is by now completely opened) and SAVE (not save as...) it. Since I have previously chosen 16bit TIFF in the preferences I expect to get this file with the photoshop edits in the aperture project TEST. HOWEVER, the file is written with the suffix "TIF". Note that there is only one "f" in this suffix.
Now, on my desktop I have THREE files, a JPG, a TIFF, and a TIF. Aperture shows only 2 images in the TEST project, the original JPG and the TIFF. This TIFF was written by aperture before i edited it in photoshop. Apparently my edits in photoshop are in the file IMAGE.TIF, which is not in my aperture TEST project.
This has to be a bug regarding the suffexes "TIFF" and "TIF" This would explain why my "edited" file in my aperture project TEST shows no evidence of having been edited.
This has been difficult to explain clearly but perhaps someone has noticed.
