Aperture extra large book two-page spread looks not connected correctly across gutter

Just previewed a extra large photo book in Aperature 3 before buying and in their preview .pdf the hook-up across2-page photo spread looks slightly offset—not connected correctly where image meets in the gutter. Is this a real representation or will it print correctly?

Hi, Nubz!
Yes, I just saw that, and am still chuckling.
Maybe that will mollify the Jive gods?
Thanks again,
Jim

  • Two-page spread for non-Apple printed book

This is probably going to sound complicated:
I'm in a small program, and we want to create a yearbook, which we decided to do ourselves since there's so few of us. The book will have pages of events and groups, of course, but also "profile pages" where photos focused on a single person are included.
Two of the people in the program are married to each other. Naturally, I want their pages to be side-by-side. More than that, though, I want to have a picture right in the middle of their two pages that I got from their wedding. In the picture, they have their arms linked, so the idea is that the gutter of the book will separate the photo with the man on the left (and his "profile page" will then go on the left), and the woman on the right (with her profile page).
I hope that makes sense so far.
The question is, how do I ensure I lose as little as possible in the gutter if I'm printing with a service other than Apple? Apple's just a bit too expensive for over a dozen books, so I'm looking at mostly Inkubook or Viovio. I've already set up a custom book in Aperture with the page sizes set to 8.7" x 11.2" (to account for 0.1" trim) and an inside margin of 0.25" (for the gutter).
Viovio has a suggestion on their website that images overlapping two pages should have a portion duplicated on either page, with the size of that duplication being equal to the size of the gutter (so the right image duplicates 0.25" of the photo on the left and the left duplicates 0.25" of the photo on the right).
Does that sound like it will work? And then, should I have the same photo on both pages with a duplicated area of 0.5" (the two gutters) or 0.7" (gutters plus trims)? To that end, how do you even measure distances in Aperture - I don't seem to be able to find a ruler of any kind, which makes putting equal spaces between photos and borders on pages very hard as well.
If that doesn't make sense, which I know it may not, let me know and I'll try to clear it up...

Two page spreads are tricky and will depend on how the binding is done by the third party printer. If you look closely at the PDF file created by Aperture for books, you'll notice that the individual pages of a two page spread do not absolutely bisect the image you've aligned across the two pages. Rather, the inside binding-side edges will give you a little extra bleed, so that in binding with the book pages spread open, you'll see one continuous image without white space.
I can't say for certain because I've not used a printer other than Apple, but I would imagine that there is variance from printer to printer w/respect to this center margin.
Of course, I could be entirely wrong.

  • Book Module: Export to PDF and Blurb stops with error at two page spread

I have a 66 page book created in the book module..
When exporting to PDF the export stops with the error:
"An error occurred while saving the book.
There was an error creating the PDF file. "
The same occurs (at the same book page) when exporting to BLURB
"An error occurred while creating the book."
The creation or export always stops at the same page which is a two page spread. Interestingly there is a two-page spread before that didn't throw an error. I tried to move the problem page to the end of the book. That didn't help because the next two page spread in the book throws an error.
    Any ideas or help?
    Lightroom version: 4.0
Computer: Windows 7, Quadcore, 8 GB RAM

Hi, sorry I do not have a solution but I too have a very similar issue in that the book is the same size but the export to PDF does not start at all
I have tried reducing the image dpi settings. Jpg quality and still nothing
The only success I have had is if I duplicate the book, delete all but 8 pages and then export at full dpi settings of 300 and 100 percent jpg quality
    Any more pages and nothing
It's a great tool and would buy it if this feature actually worked. Oh yeah I only have the trial version at the minute to give it a good thorough test
I have looked for solutions but like your query they are all unanswered
Does adobe actually offer any support or is this all user solutions?
Did you find a solution by the way?

  • Lightroom 5.2 - Background Image on a Two-Page spread in the Book Module

Is there a way i can make the Background image spread in the two-page spread in the Book Module. Currently i see the same Background image repeating which is annoying. Or is there a workaround. I'm using LightRoom 5.2. Please Advise.

I have an even simpler method. I use MyPublisher to print my books. I select their page layout for a two-page spread, drag and drop the image. DONE!  I understand that most people have their favorite places to have work done. I have been extremely pleased with MyPublisher.com, so I haven't even tried the book module in Lightroom.

  • I have worked out a simple way to put a single picture in the background on a two-page spread!

Please remember, if you have been working on your book, click on Create Saved Book to save your book BEFORE you do this.  You can lose all your work up until the point where you create a saved book.  After that, it appears on the left menu bar under Collections with whatever name you saved it under.  Your book will most likely not appear when you click back on the Book module after leaving it.  Don't panic - it hasn't disappeared.  If you clicked Create Saved Book to begin with - it's there under Collections.
So here's the exciting bit (well the solution anyway):
Click on the picture you want to use as your two-page spread
STEP 1 - In the Library module
select your image (e.g. X.jpg) and right click on "Export..."
send a copy of this picture to "Same folder as original photo" (DON'T overwrite! remember to use a unique name, such as X_1.jpg)
then repeat to create another copy (use another unique name, such as X_2.jpg)
STEP 2 - In the Develop module, take X_1 and:
click on Crop Overlay (the dotted rectangle at the top of the right menu, just below the histogram)
select a region that is 50% of the width of your original image (easiest is to click on Custom and enter original height plus half original width)
click on the middle of crop region (hand grab icon) and drag the image all the way to the RIGHT
click again on the dotted rectangle
X_1 will now be an image that is just the LEFT half of your original image.
STEP 3 - In the Develop module, then take X_2 and:
    click on Crop Overlay
select the same region that you used for step 2
click on the middle of crop region (hand grab icon) and drag the image all the way to the LEFT
click again on the dotted rectangle
X_2 will now be an image that is just the RIGHT half of your original image.
STEP 4 - In the Library module
select the folder your original photo was in
find your two new copies of that photo
drag them to your book situated in the Collections folder on the left menu bar
STEP 5 - Look under Collections and click on your book and then in the Book module
in the Background section (right side menu), UNcheck "Apply Background Globally"
to the right of the small rectangle below that, click on the tiny arrowhead and make sure "Photos" is selected
select the left page of your spread and drag X_1 (the left half) onto the rectangle
select the right page of your spread and drag X_1 (the right half) onto the rectangle
    DONE!
Of course, you can now select any of the existing templates for your left and right pages.  Remember, if you don't fill a particular template frame with a photo, it remains blank in the finished product (you can always check the preview in the top left corner in Spread View mode).  For example you could pick a 4 x 4 template and only use the top three outer frames on the outer edge of both pages.
Have fun!  I was so excited when I finally worked out this work-around

  • How do I separate the pages in a two-page spread?

I am using an InDesign document I created a couple of years ago as a template to build a similar 50 page 11x17 (8.5x11 folded) document.
While I like working with the two-page spread on my big display, I don't have a printer that prints 11x17, so I want to be able to separate the pages from each other once in  awhile to print it out, but need to know that I can easily return it to the spread state, both for while I continue to work on the doc and for the printer I'll be turning this over to upon completion.
I'm guessing there's a really easy way to do this, but I haven't been able to find it.
    Thank you.

    Some clarification needed:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
While I like working with the two-page spread on my big display, I don't have a printer that prints 11x17, so I want to be able to separate the pages ...
This actually suggests that you do NOT have a double-page spread (which in InDesign consists of two separate pages, which only happen to be viewed side by side) but instead have a single large double-sized page, on which you are drawing the contents of two pages.
If so, that's a huge problem because you created your document the wrong way ... And it's not easily fixed either.
If not, then it would seem you are printing full spreads by default -- it's a checkbox in the print dialog. Simply uncheck it, and you can print one page at a time.

  • Some Two-page Spreads export to PDF/Blurb with Errors

    Hi,
I have created a Blurb book in default portrait format.
Some of the two page spreads (sample: first two images in portrait format, third image squared on the top right) do not export correctly. The second image, the one, which will be on both pages, will be slightly smaller on the left page, than on the right page (both on Blurb and PDF export). Sadly, those two page spreads are useless for now
LR4 release versions, no updates available as of now.
Took me just three hours to upload the book and see those same errors in the Blurb preview :/
    Regards,
    Daniel

You can use a multipage importer to import a single Page PDF into InDesign.
    Create a single page PDF
Create a facing pages document the same size as your original file
Multi-page place the entire pdf into facing pages (automatically done by script)
Export entire book to PDF as spreads.
    http://indesignsecrets.com/zanelli-releases-multipageimporter-for-importing-both-pdf-and-i ndd-files.php
I say to do this with a singe pages PDF - because I don't think it will import multiple InDesign files, you'd have to place them individually - and with my experience it takes longer to import multiple indesign files - so I just use a single pages PDF.

  • Why can't I favorite a two-page spread?

I wanted to perform an Auto Layout with two page spreads as part of the mix but when I try to "favorite" one of them, the option is greyed out.
Is this happening to everyone?  Any thoughts?

Unless you are on an old plan, Next is about the same cost for the phone.
Mobile Share customers that choose a 2 year contract, lose the out of contract discount on the line, still pay a large deposit, and are locked in for 2 years.
Next customers can pay off the phone at any time and leave. Sell the phone. Or use it on another carrier once unlocked.
You do not have to pay over 3-4 years, I agree, that's not reasonable. You can place a deposit of 30% on the phone and then pay a reduced installment every month.

what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.

  • Safari cant open the page because its not connected to the internet

iPhone 3g connected to my wifi at home just fine for first 3 weeks, now wont connect and getting error message "safari cant open the page because its not connected to the internet" Signal strength is excellent, other wireless devices are connecting fine.
Ive reset network settings, modem and router but still getting error messages.

Hey man, I have this same problem and it all started with 2.0.2. This is the worst update Apple could have given us. I love Apple products, and I loved my iPhone 3G until this update. I think 2.0.2 has caused more bugs than it claims to have fixed. Safari doesn't work anymore (3G or WI-FI) and I can barely pick up 3G unless I'm outside or near a window (whereas before 2.0.2 I could get 3G even in the underground tunnels of my university campus). My iPhone is no fun anymore and actually pointless, I might as well revert back to my original RAZR v.3, at least that thing worked as it was designed to.
I hope Apple issues a new update that just cancels out 2.0.2 and reverts back to 2.0.1....that one worked absolutely fine (at least I got no crashes of any kind with that version).

  • How do I set up my InDesign file for a Perfet Bound 80 Page book when i have images overlapping a two page spread

I am looking to create a photo book that is going to be perfect bound. How do I set up the pages in InDesign so that the images that span two pages line up correctly?

Are you printing this yourself, on a network copier for example? If it's going to be printed on an offset press, it will have to be imposed by prepress techs, and it's their job to make sure that the pages are aligned correctly. There will be some part of a cross-spread image that will be lost in the spine, and their imposition method will take into account whether pages need to be moved outward from the spine by small amounts (called creep) to compensate for the wrap-around that is a part of bindery, but perfect binding isn't as bad as saddle stitch as far as that goes. Talk to your printer, but you will likely just need to compose the book in normal facing-page readers spreads and provide a multi-page PDF (not exported as spreads). They will impose the pages into printers spreads, and thank you for not doing that yourself. There will be aspects of their production that you won't or can't know about, and if you impose it, it will just make it harder for them if they have to undo what you have done incorrectly.

  • How do I make two page spreads export correctly to pdf with a book file?

I have a book I am working on in the book pallet. I have several documents in the book and have it set to auto update page numbers and keep it all organized, which is all good. However, when I export to pdf, though the page numbers and order is correct, for some reason, if it is an odd number of pages I get spread, spread, single page, spread.
Just how the first page is always single, any last pages of a document that has an odd number of pages always gets singled out and the next document resumes in spread format. This is all in one pdf file, which I exported from the book pallet with none of the documents selected or open. I have the box for spreads checked, and it is doing spreads, but just not linking documents as spreads.

You can use a multipage importer to import a single Page PDF into InDesign.
    Create a single page PDF
Create a facing pages document the same size as your original file
Multi-page place the entire pdf into facing pages (automatically done by script)

  • Book full page spread issue

We are using Aperture 3.1.3 on newly updated 10.7 Lion system.  We are wedding photographers/videographers.  We are creating books for clients within Aperture, but the full page spread is only working with certain images.  All of our images are 4928 x 3264 (16.1 MP) from our Nikon D7000's.  We have not had issues before, but now when we place certain images in the full page spread, they only render on the left page, and small in the bottom left corner.  We have tried double-clicking and resizing/repositioning the image to fit the full spread, but the resizing jumps from small to insanely large only one position over on the slider.  Anyone else having this issue?  Anyone have a resolution?  I appreciate any help from this great community of Apple-loving professionals.

Wireless Mighty Mouse.  It's not that I can't just scroll to the pages, it's that the pages don't show up in the window.  If I scroll on the window it just shows the artboard.

  • IBooks two page spread for children's picture ebooks

    Hi,
I am creating a children's ebook for iBooks and I'd like to get the following result (taken from Peppa Pig: Tiny Creatures, published on iTunes for iBooks):
The final picture ebook should have a gutter/seam in the center, 2 page spread and pages that stack when flipped.
I saw in this post that iBooks Author can't do that and we should use use Pages instead, exporting the book as an ePub to iTunes.
But how can I do this in practice with Pages? I see that Pages doesn't export the file to ePub if certain layout features are enabled and that we should follow a strict procedure to create an ePub with Pages, as described in the "ePub Best Practices".
Now, if I follow the ePub Best Practices template, I come out with a pretty dull design, good only for novels or similar.
In particular, how can I spread a picture across two pages in Pages and get that rendered by iBooks?
For example, if I want a picture to spread across 2 pages (as shown in the picture above), do I need to place the image in a "single" landscape page in Pages, and that will be spread across 2 pages when viewed in iBooks? Or should I choose a spread layout in Pages and that will be correctly picked up by iBooks, which will also add the seam effect in the middle of the book?
    Thanks.

This isn't something you need to pull a lever to do in Pages. It is part of the default navigation in iBooks when a standard epub is displayed.
As for that 'spread' image, I suspect it is actually two...left and right.
Suggest you move to the Pages forums for details...?
