Aperture / Facebook issue

I am having problems actually using Aperture after the update. Keeps giving me an error about a connection to Facebook. If I push ok it will just repeat itself. The only way out is to just completely turn off my computer. Anyone else having this problem and if so how do you fix it?

HI there I'm also haveing this problem. Just unable to connect to Facebook. Constantly getting this error whilst trying to connect to my Facebook account for the first time:"unknown error occurred: please try again later". I am accessing this via Aperture > prefs > Web > 'add an account' and also trying via the toolbar > share > Facebook.
I am using Aperture 3.3.2 (connected to the web). Have checked my passwords are correct. I did have a previous connection with Aperture and FB, this was removed from FB > Apps.
Under the web tab, I have no accounts, so there is no ability to uncheck "automatically check..."
Any ideas?
With thanks in advance too for any assistance.
Rob

  • IPad Facebook issues with Safari

Upgraded our iPad2 to 5.0.1 and when we now access Facebook via Safari, the video in Facebook now loads over the text.
According to a Genius Bar guy at our local Apple store, this is a Facebook issue. I don't want to use the new Facebook app as it's still quite buggy.
Any suggestions for accessing Facebook with Safari?
    Thanks.

This is all on Facebook's code.  There is nothing you can do from the iPad other than to contact Facebook support and tell them about it.
I use the Facebook app frequently and I don't find that it's that buggy.  It's not perfect by any means, but it's OK.  But I generally do prefer the web version.

If the problem is not with the way you are trying to use Flash, there may be something wrong with your Mac's software. One of several troubleshooting and repair steps may help you.
    (1) Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then test again.
    (2) If the problem persists, download the latest Flash Player from the Adobe link for your OS:

If the downloaded file is later than the version shown in Safari > Help > Installed Plug-ins, install the update, repair permissions one more time, and then test video again.

  • Aperture Facebook Connection Issues

So I just installed Aperture 3 and want to connect to Facebook but cannot or do not know how to.  Please help!  I also installed the plug-in but do not seem to be able to even know how or where to access or use that either.  I have been reading and searching everywhere but cannot find the answer.  If it is my first time using Aperture how do I connect to my Facebook account is basically what I am asking.  Thank you!

Ok...so I had to import at least one image into Aperture for the Facebook icon above to not be greyed out.  Lets see what happens now!  :O

  • Aperture 3.3 Facebook Issue

Since upgrading to Aperture 3.3 I constantly get a message that says:
"There was a problem connecting to Facebook."
If I leave Aperture running for a while the error messages will stack up and I can't quit Aperture.
    Any ideas/solutions?
    Thanks!

Nobody else seems to be keen on answering this question, and it was starting to bother me.
So I looked in preferences and found that under the "Web" tab, there is "Automatically check for newly published albums" setting, checked by default.
Looks like you can un-check it and the problem goes away.  Of course that feature does, too, but since I do all my photo publishing through Aperture it doesn't bother me.
I suspect the problem is an intermittent connection with Facebook, but I'm a little surprised since Facebook has always been one of the web's most reliable sites, and whatever's happening isn't impacting my regular Facebook browsing at all.
    Hope that helps.

  • Aperture Facebook button not allowing "friends"

When I post from Aperture to Facebook I click the "friends only" button.  Until about two weeks ago this work as you would expect - the photos were posted to FB with friends being able to view them.  Now, however, even though I choose the "friends" option in Aperture,  when posted to FB they have permissions for "me only".  I then have to change each post within FB.  I realize that this may be due to some update on FB without a corresponding update from Aperture.  Is there a work-around, or am I doing something wrong?  Thanks.

  • Faces/Facebook issue?? my faces keep disappearing??

im having an issue with aperture 3 using faces and Facebook.... I'm running 3.1.1 so i have to update but i didn't see anywhere in the release notes fixing any issue with faces or Facebook....i have to keep re-naming my faces, and they disappear, it seems related to Facebook in some way. When i click names, the faces are named, but they dont show up in the faces section in aperture. The ones that dont are named, but there name has a little FB icon next to it...
any help or why it keeps erasing my faces???

    Hey,
EXACTLY the same problem. Very serious - I'm not getting any emails now. My mail client pings that new email has arrived, but nothing in the inbox.
@pvonk: It's not a computer email client problem. I tested this on the iCloud webmail: The messages appear for a split second, then immediately disappear, not to be found anywhere, not in Junk, Trash, anywhere.
Fact is, I cannot use iCloud email anymore. Simply because I'm not getting any email!
EDIT: I found that a workaround is possible by setting up iCloud to forward all messages to another address. It seems the messages go through to the forward address, while still not appearing in the iCloud mailbox. So this is a way to preserve the incoming messages. Just have to make sure to let everyone know to stop using my iCloud address to send me mail in the future.

  • Aperture Facebook Uploader: Both Master and Version

I've searched the forums and see that others had this problem fixed with 3.1.1; but I'm running 3.1.2 and if I edit, crop and otherwise enhance and make a new version and make that version the stack pick, the uploader insists on uploading both (or multiple) master and versions to Facebook. I have to de-stack the images and delete from facebook, and this then reflects in my project/album.
What the heck? I should be able to upload one version. And if I choose to delete and unstack, why does it reflect in the master database?

I don't think Facebook is retaining all the Metadata from images uploaded by any means. However, it's definitely retaining the Version Name - And this is what serves as the caption for the photo in the photo album on Facebook.
Since updating Aperture to 3.1.1, I no longer get the entire 'stack' or multiple versions of the image uploaded. So the software update for Aperture HAS fixed this issue.
However, I have now noticed another issue since starting to use the Aperture uploader. I have about 10 albums/galleries on Facebook. All of these were created prior to the Aperture 3.0 release with the integrated Facebook uploader.
Now when I upload an image and subsequently Aperture accesses my Facebook photo albums, it begins to sync these photos and albums. The Facebook directory that you can see at the bottom of the Library now lists those albums that exist on Facebook and begins to sync those photos. However, when I browse photos by 'date' all those Facebook photos from those albums appear in my Library with the date listed as the date I first viewed them.
So if I click on one of the Facebook albums in Aperture, let Aperture go through its sync process, then review library "photos" and sort by date, all the Facebook photos I have looked at appear as the most current photos.
this is not a good thing because I have Albums, Projects etc. that are sync'd with iPhone or Apple TV that include date filters (projects in last month, photos last week etc.) Now all these legacy Facebook photos are appearing on these other devices.

  • Aperture & Facebook Uploader - No Version nor Metadata

So I'm simply trying to upload a single image to Facebook in Aperture 3.1 via the integrated Facebook uploader. I've edited, cropped and applied metadata (caption, keywords, title etc.) to the photo. Select the version and upload.
The Master Image AND the Version is uploaded and the default filename is used as the caption. Should be simple enough to select a 'VERSION' and when uploaded only the Version should upload and, of course, the caption should be in place.
What's up Aperture? Why won't you upload the actual photo I've selected? And please include the metadata!
Anyone else experiencing this problem. Any ideas?

  • Video's are missing and can not post any video's and can no longer see on Facebook after upgrading mac software.  Facebook says content is unavailable.  Is this a facebook issue or is there something that I can do to fix on my mac.

Video's are missing from facebook album under photo's.  It shows that I have 99 and only shows 24.  These are not copyright problems.  I have had them up for years.  Now, I can not post any video's  too.  Message says that content is currently unavailable. It seemed to happen after I upgraded to 10.7.5 but it could be coincidental.  Of course, I have not got any email from facebook to help with this problem and I am really frustrated that I can not find my video's and post any new ones anymore.  Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to add that Comcast is my internet provider. Perhaps that is part of the issue although the Connection Doctor confirms the mail box is connecting to the internet. No other function processes when Connection Doctor program is used to find the source of the issue. I have read forum posts but am unable to find a way to get my Apple mail to be delivered to my computer. It worked fine up until I chose to transfer mail to the Cloud. My mail account is a .mac account.
Still hoping someone out there can help me.

  • Aperture viewer issues after full screen view - in Browser, Split View and Viewer modes

2012 MacBook Air, Mac OS 10.8.2, Aperture 3.4.3. Everything is up to date and, as usual, has been working just fine since the last update a few weeks ago. Full screen view never caused any issues... until today.
I tried quitting and restarting Aperture. Using another Aperture library. Quitting everything and restarting my MBA... same behavior.
I went into the full screen view, edited a photo and got out of the full screen view to export it.
All of the sudden, only one line of thumbnails was showing up in my Broswer view (out of 380 pictures in that project). Looking closely at it, it seems like the Aperture now thinks that the desktop area it has to work with (the dark gray area where the thumbnails are) is larger than the aperture window because a part of photo is showing up cut off at the right edge and no slider at the bottom:
(note: at the bottom it says 380 items displayed)
Going back to full screen view, everything looks and works as nothing has happened:
In Broswer view, if I scroll down such that the first row is out of the view, the second row of thumbnails shows up:
Now, if I scroll back up, two rows of thumbnails are shown in the viewer:
To get the third row to show up, I need to scroll down to get the top two rows out of the way and so on.
At some point I saw this weirdo but have not been able to replicate it:
Split View also has its issues - the photo itself is no longer centered and the slider at the bottom gets out of the way past the right edge of the Aperture window before reaching the end of the row of thumbnails:
Finally, when double clicking the photo in the Split View to view it by itself, once again it is not centered and cut off on the right side but there is no slider...
Any ideas? I tried looking through the Viewer-related threads on here and did not see anything close to this. Is there a way to contact Apple support? I found some form somewhere on the website, but it had a dropdown for operating system and nothing past 10.7.2 so I am guessing it is not being maintained...
edit: added the note under the first image

When the graphical user interface is misbehaving, it frequently helps to remove the Aperture preferences apple.com.Aperture.plist from your user library, see the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics on how to do this.

  • Aperture Facebook integration all screwed up

    1) Sometimes not all of the photos get synced up. Aperture says it's done, but only 40-50 of 100 photos are visible on Facebook.
    2) Faces are not linked consistently. For example, sometimes someone will be tagged and then in another photo they won't be.
    3) Sometimes Faces are CHANGED randomly. For example, I tagged a photo with myself but Aperture changes it to someone else when I sync with Facebook. I haven't made any changes on Facebook.

The Facebook uploader has proven to be such a hassle that I have resorted to managing the FB albums through iPhoto. I use Facebook to promote my photography and it looks really unprofessional when I have to faff about with may albums in Aperture to finally get them to upload all pictures. Recently, out of an album of 16 photos. it successfully uploaded 3. I shifted the pics out of the album and back in, and it uploaded 16 but most of them were duplicates. I tried fresh once more and again it only uploaded 6. Finally, I opened iPhoto, imported all 16 pics to a new event and uploaded them quickly and easily.
Also, why does Aperture not have a method for watermarking images before uploading to Facebook and Flickr? A simple stamp would do wonders for marking your images wherever you want.

  • Multiple managed libraries: facebook issues (photos disappear)

I reorganized my aperture libraries by moving projects to their appropriate library from my "working" library. Unfortunately, I published facebook albums from the working library. After I moved the projects to the appropriate library and trashed the corresponding project in the working library, many of my facebook albums have become empty.
    What's going on here?
Would it be a good idea for Aperture to have facebook albums be part of a project (and travel with the project)? Why are they their own separate high-level thing?

Hi all. I am reading this post and thinking why would you want one huge library. I'm going through a nightmare right now with a corrupted massive library that houses my family's memories.
I had several time machine back ups. But it is only good as the data backed up. If corrupted then the backup has corrupted data. Garbage in, garbage out.
So I guess I'm asking. If you have 50k pics. Ranging, for example, from years 2005-2012. In all one library. When you open up iphoto to work with current pics, why stress it out to also bring in 5 years of pics that you probably almost never use.
Trust me. I love having all the pics at my disposal too.
But I've learned over the last two days that this seems like a huge risk.
If you have say 7 libraries ranging from 2005-2012. One of them gets corrupted. Only one gets corrupted ;)
    The others are probably fine.
This whole rebuild and repair = totally worthless in my opinion. It not only didn't fix it, but it some now mysteriously added pics i previously deleted (like months ago)and rearranged other events. My library is totally shot. If I had several libraries I would be dealing with a disaster on a much smaller scale.
I also tried to rebuild with iPhoto library manager. Didn't work.
I'm a complete novice. But I'm sold on multiple libraries.
And for what it is worth, I spoke to a few apple senior techs. They told me they don't recommend libraries more than 40-50 gigs? Certainly not over 100 gigs.
Anyway I admit.... Part of me is also venting ;)

  • Aperture Library Issues on NAS - Advice Needed

    List-
Need some practical advice here. I've got a 90GB Aperture library that resides on a NAS (QNAP 419P II) that is experiencing major issues. Understood that having the library live on a non-HFS+, non-local drive is not advised by Apple, but it's been there for two years with no issues to speak of.
I had a power failure occur that seems to have done some damage to the library in some way. Upon opening the library, I got an error that said that there were inconsistencies with the file and that it needed to be repaired. I repaired it, and noticed something strange. In almost all files, the picture resolution was poor and both the camera and lens information was gone--in addition to the fact that the Adjustments capability was disabled.
I ran the Aperture first aid and ran all three processes--concluding with the full library rebuild. It looked to be successful and resolution, previews, and picture info returned--but halfway through the preview reprocessing the process just stopped and the beach ball of death ensued. I let it run overnight and it never recovered. I had to force quit and now if I reopen the file it say that there are inconsistencies and that the library needs to be repaired, which won't help.
I also tried to move the library off of the NAS an onto the local drive, but encountered an Error - 50 message--something that apparently is well known in the NAS world where Mac permissions get screwy when dealing with non HFS+ drives.
I have a backup of the original library, but it is sitting in a cloud repository (CrashPlan) that will take time and money to restore.
All of the masters are intact in the Aperture directory, and I have very few major adjustments made to any photos. Aperture is really just a repository for me.
So any practical advice would be appreciated as to how I can create a new local Aperture library and get all of the existing photo files there. I am pretty much giving up on the idea of getting the existing NAS-based library to work properly, so this is more of a real-world question on how to create a new library and eliminate whatever issues there are with the other Aperture files. It looks like everything in the Aperture package is in place, but the library itself is just malfunctioning.
I am also considering moving everything into iPhoto as well, as Aperture may simply be more than I need for my usage. If is is faster and a but simpler to manage, that could be the right answer as well.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or guidance.

The problem is most likely with the library itself being located on the NAS.
But you can have a hybrid solution where the library is located on your internal drive while the actual image files are located externally, eg on your NAS. Image files stored within the Apeture library are called "managed" while image files stored externally are called "referenced". Whichever approach you take, the process is the same:
If you try to make a new Library from your masters, you will lose your project structure. The resulting mess will be in accordance to how you created your projects. Basically, if you look at your Masters folder, that's what you'll end up with when you import your masters. If that isn't a problem, the process is simple
    Step 1: Prep.
Move or copy your masters out of the library bundle to a folder (to make them more accesible in finder).
    Step 2: Create new library.
Within Aperture, from the File menu "Switch to Library -> Other/New..." to create a new Library on your internal drive.
Set the preferences to indicate previews/faces etc. I'd turn these off for now as they will slow you down.
    Step 3: Import your images.
Within your new library, File -> Import - Folders as Projects. This gives you a dialog where you specifiy what and where to import.
If you choose "Import folders as: Folders and Projects" you will get a folder structure that matches the Masters folder, with projects at the end of the chain with names like 20120213-200100.
If you choose "Import folders as: Projects and Albums" you will get a single Project called "Masters" with a folder and Album structure that matches the Masters folder.
Neither of these will look particularly great. If you want to avoid this mess, here's what I'd try.
Fix your library again like you did before. After the rebuild, go to the Aperture activity window (SHIFT + CMD + 0) and cancel the preview generation process before it has chance to hang. This should give you a sem-functional library, hopefully functional enough for the next step:
Select all images and use File -> Relocate Original to move your original files out of the library. During this process you can specify that the originals are stored in sub-folders that match the project name, within a parent folder if required.
This gives you a much neater structure for importing into your new library where the projects will get the folder names (which will be your existing project names). It may not be perfect, for example if you have the same project name in different folders and don't/can't segregate them, but it's a lot cleaner than just importing your masters folder.
    Andy
