Aperture & Facebook Uploader - No Version nor Metadata
So I'm simply trying to upload a single image to Facebook in Aperture 3.1 via the integrated Facebook uploader. I've edited, cropped and applied metadata (caption, keywords, title etc.) to the photo. Select the version and upload.
The Master Image AND the Version is uploaded and the default filename is used as the caption. Should be simple enough to select a 'VERSION' and when uploaded only the Version should upload and, of course, the caption should be in place.
What's up Aperture? Why won't you upload the actual photo I've selected? And please include the metadata!
Anyone else experiencing this problem. Any ideas?

I don't think Facebook is retaining all the Metadata from images uploaded by any means. However, it's definitely retaining the Version Name - And this is what serves as the caption for the photo in the photo album on Facebook.
Since updating Aperture to 3.1.1, I no longer get the entire 'stack' or multiple versions of the image uploaded. So the software update for Aperture HAS fixed this issue.
However, I have now noticed another issue since starting to use the Aperture uploader. I have about 10 albums/galleries on Facebook. All of these were created prior to the Aperture 3.0 release with the integrated Facebook uploader.
Now when I upload an image and subsequently Aperture accesses my Facebook photo albums, it begins to sync these photos and albums. The Facebook directory that you can see at the bottom of the Library now lists those albums that exist on Facebook and begins to sync those photos. However, when I browse photos by 'date' all those Facebook photos from those albums appear in my Library with the date listed as the date I first viewed them.
So if I click on one of the Facebook albums in Aperture, let Aperture go through its sync process, then review library "photos" and sort by date, all the Facebook photos I have looked at appear as the most current photos.
this is not a good thing because I have Albums, Projects etc. that are sync'd with iPhone or Apple TV that include date filters (projects in last month, photos last week etc.) Now all these legacy Facebook photos are appearing on these other devices.

Aperture Facebook Uploader: Both Master and Version
I've searched the forums and see that others had this problem fixed with 3.1.1; but I'm running 3.1.2 and if I edit, crop and otherwise enhance and make a new version and make that version the stack pick, the uploader insists on uploading both (or multiple) master and versions to Facebook. I have to de-stack the images and delete from facebook, and this then reflects in my project/album.
What the heck? I should be able to upload one version. And if I choose to delete and unstack, why does it reflect in the master database?I don't think Facebook is retaining all the Metadata from images uploaded by any means. However, it's definitely retaining the Version Name - And this is what serves as the caption for the photo in the photo album on Facebook.

Facebook publishing uses Version name as description for Facebook uploads
Facebook publishing on Aperture 3 uses my Version name as the description on Facebook. Is there a way to keep it from doing that or change what metadata it uses for the description? I would love to be able to write a caption in Aperture and have that show as the description. Otherwise, I would like the description to be left blank on Facebook rather than putting the Version name.
I never found a fix for this. I also realized that if you ever delete the sync folder from Aperture, the pictures in Facebook will be deleted as well. So I've simply stopped using the Facebook publishing feature from Aperture. Now I'm back to the usual: export a folder of the images I want to upload, upload that folder to Facebook, and delete that folder after uploading it since I have the original file elsewhere.

I am unable to upload my videos nor am I able to watch videos ( it shows me HMTL5) on facebook.
I am alsohaving trouble editing my photo on photobucket. This one shows flash
Not sure why it's doing this...
PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks JulieMake sure that you installed the current version of flash player. If you click on the mentioned "flash", you should be directed to adobe's website, where you can download the current version of flash player. After downloading it, make sure to install it as well. This should solve the issue with your photobucket.

How do I upload photo versions from aperture to my Ipad using photo stream.
I am not able to upload photo versions from aperture to my ipad using photo stream. The only photos that upload are the ones that have not been retouched. However when I try other unretouched photos in a different album they do not upload. Do I have some incorrect settings that need to be adjusted.
The photos that hove not been altered in aperture are uploaded in photo stream however the altered photos (versions) are not.
That is puzzling. My shared photo streams do upload all image versions I am dragging to them - original version and edited version. But both versions have to be shared to the stream, and they have to be unstacked, as Thomas already pointed out.
Sometimes it takes a long time for the images to appear in the Shared Photo Stream, however. Maybe your Aperture Library needs repairing. Have you tried the Aperture Library First Aid Tools? Launched Aperture with the ⌥⌘-kys held down? -
Moving Master Images after Facebook Upload
I'm using a fully updated version of Aperture 3 and ran into a problem today moving master images that I have not experienced before. My normal workflow is to batch import images from my camera every few days in one large import, so I often have multiple subjects in every batch. For my 9 months with the program I have always downloaded everything into a temporary holding project I literally call "Hold". When I get the time to do a detailed review, I then delete what I don't want and move (drag) the master images I want to keep from "Hold" into other subject-matter-unique projects across the library. This works for me and has worked flawlessly until today when I downloaded about 20 images. What I did differently today was I took things out of my usual order and decided to quickly upload 3 of the images from the "Hold" folder to Facebook using the Aperture Uploader. The upload went fine, as it has in the past, but the problem surfaced when I then tried to move all the master images out of "Hold" to my permanent library file (project) structure. The 17 images (which were not uploaded to Facebook) moved out to their new projects just fine, as always, but the 3 masters which were the source for the Facebook upload will not allow themselves to be moved out of "Hold". When I drag them to the intended project, Aperture copies them into that project, but the original stays in "Hold." Of course, if I try to then delete what is in "Hold" (with a copy safely filed away elsewhere in the Library) I get the warning that I am attempting to delete a master upon which other versions are dependent (to include "Facebook albums" it says), and all will be deleted.
My take on this is the Facebook upload from "Hold", and the resulting versions created in the Facebook album (far bottom entries on the Library listing), now make "Hold" a permanent home for those associated master images. Is there some way to get around this and actually move the master images to where I want them to be AND to de-clutter the "Hold" folder? Or does this mean any use of Aperture's very handy (at least to date) Facebook uploader permanently glues a master to whatever project it was in when it was uploaded, never to fully and completely move again? Thanks.I just made a test of this, and can confirm the apparent behavior. However, I examined the Masters folder in the Package of the Library (and I have a Managed Library) and I believe there may be some referencing between Projects taking place. The same appears to result where you have created a slideshow. In the Facebook album and in the Slideshow album, the file info reports the master file name -- in my case the xxxx.NEF file, which clearly none of them really are, but rather some version.
I will try to do a more precise test where I can measure the size of the Masters folder to see if the "Move" adds to its size by an amount equal to the size of the Master file.
Interesting!

Aperture Facebook integration all screwed up
1) Sometimes not all of the photos get synced up. Aperture says it's done, but only 40-50 of 100 photos are visible on Facebook.
2) Faces are not linked consistently. For example, sometimes someone will be tagged and then in another photo they won't be.
3) Sometimes Faces are CHANGED randomly. For example, I tagged a photo with myself but Aperture changes it to someone else when I sync with Facebook. I haven't made any changes on Facebook. The Facebook uploader has proven to be such a hassle that I have resorted to managing the FB albums through iPhoto. I use Facebook to promote my photography and it looks really unprofessional when I have to faff about with may albums in Aperture to finally get them to upload all pictures. Recently, out of an album of 16 photos. it successfully uploaded 3. I shifted the pics out of the album and back in, and it uploaded 16 but most of them were duplicates. I tried fresh once more and again it only uploaded 6. Finally, I opened iPhoto, imported all 16 pics to a new event and uploaded them quickly and easily.
Also, why does Aperture not have a method for watermarking images before uploading to Facebook and Flickr? A simple stamp would do wonders for marking your images wherever you want. -
IPhoto '09 Facebook upload problem
I have been uploading photos using iPhoto '09 to my Facebook account for years. Just a couple of days ago I started receiving a message box "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?" when I click on the Facebook icon. If I go ahead with the button "Setup" it opens another small box that is simply my Facebook page. So, it is logged in but the page is useless as I cannot configure anything with respect to iPhoto. I have logged out and tried setup again but that does not work. I also went as far as to download the Facebook uploader plugin that works via the Export function. This partially works but my photos are not viewable by my friends even though it says they should be. Does anyone know why the Facebook upload function stopped working all of a sudden and how to fix it? I am using iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424). Thanks.
Thanks Larry. I found the discussion your were referrring to and it worked! I will paste it below in case someone else needs it.
Just solved it here after an hour+ of experimenting.
Try this:
• When you get prompted "Do you want to set up iPhoto of post to Facebook?" confirm and it will bring up your regular Facebook home page in a small viewer window.
• Go up to the upper right corner of the Facebook page and log out, then hit the "Close" button at the bottom of the small viewer window.
• You'll probably get the same "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?" prompt again. This time hit Cancel
• Now try to share your pictures to Facebook again. You'll get the "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?" message again. Do it and this time hopefully you should get a prompt to login to your Facebook account. Enter your Facebook name and password. This should reset your connection.
• If successful you should get a prompt from Facebook that you can close the page. Close it and fingers crossed, all should work again. That's what worked for me.
Good luck. -
How to export both masters and versions w/ metadata?
When traveling I import photo files into Aperture on my laptop and edit them. When I get home I would like to export "everything" - masters, versions, and metadata, so that I can then import all of this into Aperture on my desktop. Or, perhaps there is another way to transfer all of this information into Aperture on my desktop? The export menu seems to give only the option to export either masters or versions, but I want to basically duplicate on my desktop a particular project from my laptop. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
You get the option to either add the contents of the being-imported Library to the being-imported-into Library, or to merge the contents. In neither case is the being-imported-into Library replaced.
It is always a good idea to maintain a practice Library of a few hundred images, and to use it to try out any actions you fear might destroy your work.
There is an entire chapter in the User Manaul on using Library files. It is part of the general introduction to Aperture (viz.: the first seven chapters), all of which is recommended reading as it provides the foundation needed to achor your exploration of the rest of this complex, powerful program.
What you want to do is part of that power -- it is specifically provided as a feature of Aperture:
This is particularly useful if you use a portable computer when on location or away from your studio, and a workstation at your studio. Any work done in the field can be exported from your portable computer as a library file and then merged with the library file on the workstation at your studio.
In your case, either export everything ("Export→Project as New Library") from the "field" computer, or simply import the entire "field" Library. The details of the workflow are up to you to determine. They will likely depend on what Images you want to maintain on your "field" computer -- whether that Library is a one-time only collecting basket, or is used for processing or showing Images collected on previous excursions.

Safari will not allow uploads without crashing (nor will Firefox)
Every time I try to upload a photo to email, Safari quits. I downloaded Firefox and tried again, only to get the same result. I'm also trying to upload some art to a website to which I belong. I can't do it. The crash happens when I try to go to a folder that contains the art/photos.
I'm on a Mac Pro, OS 6. (whatever the latest is, as I always update) (Snow Leopard).
I DID recently download Adobe Reader 10.whatever. Could that be the problem?
Thanks for any help,
ChasPosting Error report upon crashing. Man, this is loooong. Sorry about this, but thanks for tip Linc. And sorry for delay getting back. I'm also having printer connection problems.

Can Mobileme Gallery upload edited versions?
I'm trying to sync Mobileme Gallery. Aperture uploads unedited versions instead of edited versions. I want to upload edited versions. Is it possible?
Ok, thanks. Aperture will upload the edited versions but when I have edited a photo with Dodge & Burn, Aperture makes a tiff file. And when I put this tiff file in the gallery folder, Aperture puts both versions in the folder because the make together a stack. Then it uploads only the original version. So I have to unstack and then it works fine. I hope that I didn't have to unstack them...

IPhoto + Facebook uploader
Has anyone seen/solved this problem? When I try to upload photos using the Facebook uploader, it uploads one photo and then stops uploading the rest of the photos, saying "An unknown error has occurred."
Is something wrong with my photos? My iPhoto? Facebook?
None of my other friends have this problem. I redownloaded the facebook uploader to see if I can fix it with that, but it's still there.
This is iPhoto '08 version 7.1.3 (364)Michael

I Have just updated my iphone 5 Facebook app, to version 11.0 and do not like it. Is it possible for me to go back to my previous version?
Okay, I found the answer myself. Going to about:config and setting browser.showQuitWarning to true, restored that option and brought it back. Thanks to anyone who is about to post. If this is false by default, it has got to change.

I have 396 versions in the Aperture trash, but Aperture's deleting 784 versions?
I deleted a bunch of versions along with some masters. The number by the Trash in the inspector indicated there were 396 versions in the trash. I clicked "empty Aperture trash" and expected it to empty as usual, but it seemed to be taking an extra long time. I had the "Activity Monitor" on at the time and, indeed, both the processor and RAM appeared to be maxed. (I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro, 15 inch, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB RAM, running OSX 10.6.8). I waited a while, but it didn't seem to improve. Curious about what progress had been made, I clicked "Show Activity" in Aperture. It showed a status of 10%, soon thereafter, it said "deleting 2 of 784"!!!!! Why would it be deleting nearly twice as many versions as are in the trash? I have never had the "Show Activity" window open before when emptying the trash, so I don't know if this is normal or not, but it had me worried. I wanted to cancel the process and find out if it was normal before continuing, but the "Cancel Task" button in the activity window was greyed out, and therefore, not an option. I waited and waited, all the while worrying about what other versions it was planning on deleting. It seemed to be at a stand-still. There was no spinning beach ball, and I was able to use the cursor, but the Activity Window didn't show any more versions being deleted. I know I'll get criticized for the next few things I did, as I'm sure I probably should not have done them: I decided to try quitting Aperture, since I could find no other way to cancel the task. The progress bar got about half way through and then seemed to stall. Again, I waited and waited and waited. Finally, I reluctantly clicked on "Aperture" in the "Activity Monitor" and then "Quit Process", to force quit the process. I then put the computer to sleep for a while. When I came back, I clicked "restart" to clear the RAM (Activity Monitor indicated about 5 MB of Page Outs--don't ask me what the other stats were, as I don't recall). I opened Aperture to see what would happen. It opened fine. The only immediate noticeable problem is that while the trash still indicates 396 items are in it, no previews show in the window. It is all grey.
My questions are as follows:
1) As asked above: Why would Aperture be deleting 784 versions when only 396 are in the trash?
2) What is the next best step for me to take? I am wanting to delete the 396 versions, but not unknow extras! I can't see what's in the trash.
Thanks, in advance, for any insight.Update: I did an extended hardware test (just in case a hardware issue was causing my problem)--no problems found. I then went through the Aperture troubleshooting steps: I tried repairing permissions first, but I still could not see any of the images that were in the Aperture trash. I then repaired the library. This seems to have fixed things (at least upon initial assessment). Afterward, I was able to see the images that were in the trash. I opened the Activity Window to see what it said when I tried emptying the trash again. This time it said it was deleting exactly the number of images that I expected it to delete (not twice as many this time!), and it emptied lickety split--as I had expected it to do the first time! So, hopefully, all is now well with my system and library. Still wondering why it was telling me it was deleting twice as many images as were in the trash the last time I tried, but overall, much happier today!

Am running Firefox 7.0.1 now. Normal memory usage is 157mb but when running Facebook (not running apps nor games), it goes up to 553mb Why?
I encountered the same type of problem. Firefox running terribly slowly and slowing down my entire machine (Core i5 with 256GB SSD). Searching the forums, I found a couple of things about troubleshooting performance issues, one of which was to use '''hardware acceleration''', that is on by default. It was turned on on my PC, '''so I tried deactivating it, and it worked!'''
So doing the exact opposite as Mozilla support said solved the problem. It is really a pain now to work with Firefox. I'm using it because I have no choice, but I'd recommend IE and Chrome over Firefox... Whatever, the market will decide once Firefox has become to crappy...
