Aperture Faces/Facebook Tag Syncing Broken

I hope someone here can help me.
I just published a bunch of photos to facebook using the Aperture "Facebook" share feature. I also had been sure that all my "faces" were tagged before doing so in order to save me time tagging all the photos through facebook.
The only problem is it didn't work. For half the people it did indeed tag them with the names of the "faces" but it wasn't linked to any particular Facebook account. That being said, some of the faces randomly DID work.
How exactly do I go about changing that? The Aperture help mentions you can setup the face's Facebook ID from the faces tab in aperture but doesn't explain how to do so.
I thought perhaps it had to do with the email addresses not being correct so I've switched those but so far it hasn't fixed anything - maybe it only works for new uploads and can't re-sync and fix old ones?
The weird part is, two of the faces that tagged just fine have no email specified. The ones that did have emails specified DIDN'T sync to their facebook profiles...
This is all very confusing...

Your experience seems to be typical!

  • Facebook tagging issues

Before I start I have read what feels like everything and so far nothing seems to really solve the problem.
I am trying to move from LR to Aperture and have my main library. Running on a Mac so contacts and Mavericks is all synced up with Facebook etc...
In my main library I have a number of people that are tagged and these pass over to Facebook with a hyperlink to the person. However there are a number that don't and just get the 'greyed out' tag but this doesn't show on their profile.
I created a new library, imported a bunch of images and proceeded to tag them using the same tags that are automatically prompted. Out of 3 people that don't work on the main library, 2 now have tags with hyperlinks, but 1 still doesn't.
This is driving me round the bend as I have a whole project to start but can't get this working consistently enough, and it's now making me wonder about whether Aperture is worth it - I'm really after the organising and sharing elements.
Any thoughts, advice etc would be welcome.

    Ok, thanks.
I think the issues I have are only with people whose faces I tagged in iPhoto before I linked to facebook...
Ill try contacting facebook and see if they can help. Will post any solution I get here for others.

  • Aperture 3 and Flickr sync problems

    Hi!
I started using Aperture 3 recently and made the mistake of authorizing Aperture to sync with Flickr.  I hate it!  Now I want to deauthorize it somehow but don't know where or how?  I've read horror stories that all of my Flickr photos will be deleted from Flickr if I deauthorize, but none of my Flickr photos were uploaded from Aperture, they were already in Flickr and were automatically synced to Aperture once I authorized it.  Now that I realize I've made a mistake I want to get out, but how?
    TIA!
    Debbie

I have been using the sync feature between my Aperture library and Facebook and Flickr for 6 months and I finally gave up on it yesterday.
As an example of what I usually go through, I uploaded 159 photos to my flickr account this past weekend, then added some captions/descriptions/tags etc. on flickr (was that a mistake?). Then Aperture promptly undid some my work at the next synchonization... I don't want photos on my stream named DSC_6788.jpg, etc.  Thing is, Aperture undoes some of what I do on Flickr but not all.  There's no rhyme, reason, or pattern to it.  If I use Aperture to add tags (by entering keywords in the right field), even those partially disappear after the next sync.
Another maddening thing is that it makes the filename the caption on Facebook albums.  I/e/. if, on Facebook, I added a desctiptive caption on a picture such as "Mommy and Daddy making out under the Eiffel Tower" (totally a made up example), then next time a synch happens, the caption would be "DSC_8646.jpg."  Gee, thanks for the help, Aperture.
For 6 months I have lived in fear of opening up Aperture.  Will the sync mess up what I've published online?
There should be option to not have Aperture override what you do on flickr (and Facebook).  I am a strong believer in the "Publish and Forget" model for places like Flickr and Facebook, not the sync model.
For now, it's back to export to a folder and upload via the uploader.

  • How to Migrate Face / People Tag Data?

Hi all, like most people we have a household of phones, computers, android, mac, windows.
I have on the desktop win 7 machine tagged religiously about 14,000 photos for:
    1     Date
2     Location (and if geotag available when taken, that too)
    3     Event Description
    4     People Tags
Also every file is in a folder dated when photos taken, spanning from when taken.  Some photos were large format (about 2,000) that dated back to 1926, that were high resolution scanned in on film scanner.
What I would like is to be able to use the same photo library across the house!!!!
    - I have a shared folder, so network access is not an issue here for everyone, it is the item 4 above.
Specifically Windows Live Photo Gallery People Tags do not show up as Face Tags in iPhoto (iLife 11).
I do not mind changing from now my method of tagging, but spending a few months retagging and duplicating work is a no no.  Is there a way therefore to
    (a) Show People Tag's as Face Tag's in iPhoto.
The options I have come up with are:
i In WLPG select each People Tag, and thus the photos for that tag, and somehow add a Descriptive Tag (that of course will lose the part of photo where face is tagged)
ii Find something on the web (hopefully hear your thoughts all!!!) on how an app to migrate the data (or better yet sync it)
I am at this point locked into WLPG, and no disrespect to iPhoto, but aperture/lightroom/something still to be invented in a few years - all are concerns, and I do not want to retag people/face data again.  So thoughts on the long term would be interesting please

There is no way to migrate Faces data from any system to another system. Simply, there is no metadata convention that operates across systems.
I would suggest though, that whenever (if ever) one is devised, it's much more likely to be based on a system based on an industry leading professional photo application than on Windows Live Photo Gallery.
The best workaround I can suggest is that you keyword the people and use that as a basis for re-tagging the facs on a different system. I would ensure that Windows Live Photo Gallery supports IPTC keywords first.
I would also point out that iPhoto has no cross platform ability at all. As a database, everything needs to be imported to it, and so it may not be the app you want to use on your Macs for this job.
FWIW, iPhoto, Aperture and Lightroom all support ITPC keywording. As Face tagging is of little use to pro shooters I've not even seen any discussion about standardising a metadata system for it.

  • Publishing pictures to Facebook - 'tagging' problems

Whenever I upload any pictures to Facebook, Faces does tag people however it does not link them to their Facebook profile.
I have tried using full names which match their profile name, however it still doesn't work.
Is anyone else having this problem??

    definitely not good enough
iPhoto knows your username on facebook and your password. It should access your friends list as 'exporter for iPhoto does'. See the feedback I left for apple at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
I am disappointed with the 'faces' integration with facebook in iPhoto 09.
I have been using 'Facebook exporter for iPhoto' (http://developers.facebook.com/iphoto/) for some months now, and use of 'faces' could learn a lot from it.
The flaw is this- I don't know my friends' email addresses, which facebook integration seems to require in order to tag them properly on facebook. The above exporter plugin fetches your contacts from facebook and suggests them using the same familliar javascript window we're used to when tagging on the facebook website itself, so I know that the API allows it.
Unless this is improved, people will just see 'faces' as a gimmick and not as the time-saving and functional resource which it could be. Automatically recognising your friends' faces and then uploading the pictures to facebook as proper tags which generate notifications and are click-able screams 'it just works' a ** of a lot more than having to tag all your photos once for your computer and once again for your Facebook album.
Please feel free to contact me if you require any further information.

  • Faces, Facebook and Multiple Emails -- How to do properly?

Good morning. I know that the Facebook tagging feature relies on some combination of name and email address as your friends in registered in Facebook. And I know that iPhoto allows for multiple email addresses per Face.
I'm not having much success with this, specifically with my own Face. Like many, I have numerous emails and use a specific one for my Facebook account. I've tried many combinations of assigning emails to my iPhoto Face—FB email only, comma separated list of all my emails, FB email first and rest separated by commas, etc.—and still my own face remains a non-link name on Facebook. Suggestions?

The e-mail for the face must be the Facebook e-mail only - that is how facebook matches up with its database

  • Export Masters to include star ratings, places, faces, and tags?

I have 25,000 photos at about 2.5 mb each that I have imported into Aperture. The original import file was about 60gb. The current Aperture file is about 205gb. If I export masters, I get a file that is 60gb (same aas the orignal import file. If I export versions, I get a file that is about 150gb. During import, I may have had the import adjustment preset at "quick fixes"; possibly creating a new version for all 25,000 photos.
I tried importing orignal masters with no auto adjustments ad by setting previews at lower quality and the dimensions that match my macbook pro with about a 40% change in file size.
All of my photos have now been adjusted, tagged, geo-tagged, and facial recognized. I do not want t lose that.
I am trying to export the masters to an external drive with all of my star ratings, places, faces, and tags in order to import them to a smaller file.
Once, I get all of my adjusted photos into Aperture, I do not really care about the masters.
How do I export my master files with all of the tags? Or how do I export my versions without having to keep the bloated file of 150gb instead of 60gb? What is attached to the versions that would more than double th efile size?
    Thank you

    Sunblock,
Once, I get all of my adjusted photos into Aperture, I do not really care about the masters.
Don't take this the wrong way, but what you are trying to accomplish goes agains the most basic design of Aperture.  Aperture is intended to keep your masters safe and unadulterated, while giving you the opportunity to export your versions on demand.
If I export masters, I get a file that is 60gb (same aas the orignal import file. If I export versions, I get a file that is about 150gb.
Your versions do not take up 150 GB in the Aperture library.  They take up several K for the "recipe", and then some small thumbnails and preview images.  The only reason you see that the versions are 150 GB is because you exported them and looked at what Aperture generated at your request.
How do I export my master files with all of the tags? Or how do I export my versions without having to keep the bloated file of 150gb instead of 60gb? What is attached to the versions that would more than double th efile size?
Your masters are supposed to stay exactly the same as when you imported them.  However, when exporting masters, you can choose, in the Metadata selection, to "Include IPTC"; this includes some of the metadata.  I am unsure of the exact items it includes, though.  Some of the things you can do in Aperture are not supported by general metadata formats.
As for exporting the versions, you don't get a "bloated file". Rather, you get many (25000?) files.  Depending on your export preset, it is entirely possible that each exported version is larger than its corresponding imported master.  Check the "Export Preset" selection when you export versions to see what format Aperture is making.  There is nothing "attached" to versions.  Each one is a completely independent picture file.
I am trying to export the masters to an external drive with all of my star ratings, places, faces, and tags in order to import them to a smaller file.
Not sure what you are getting at here.  What do you mean by "import them into a smaller file?"  Do you mean that you want to get rid of your Aperture library package (which is actually hundreds of thousands of files) and replace it with a different Aperture library which is smaller?  Again, you might want to rethink this.  It is not what Aperture is intended for -- you are giving up good, quality photos for something inferior.  Why do you want to replace your photos with something inferior?

  • How do you Confirm a Facebook tag?

    Hey all,
Just wondering how you "confirm" a facebook tag. I'm wonder as I'm trying to not have to go back and manually input an email address for every person i've already got.
    Thanks

Here is a workflow I found to work for me:
STEP 1 - Use FACES to name someone in iPhoto.
STEP 2 - Publish the photo/album to facebook.
STEP 3 - In facebook look at your album. You may notice that the person is tagged in facebook, but the name is not linked. This could be for two reasons. 1) The person is not one of your facebook friends; 2) you need to "link" the relationship between facebook and iPhoto. If the person is, in fact, one of your facebook friends but their name is not "linked" (highlighted in blue -- linked to their profile page) within facebook you should re-tag them in facebook and then delete the original link. Now, go back to your iPhoto album (the facebook album) and click the icon to the right of the album name to "refresh" or "resync" it. It will pull the NEW tag from facebook that you created and understand that it's the same person/name and it will finally start tagging that person correctly from that point forward.
STEP 4 - If you created NEW tags for people in facebook you may notice that they appear in your iPhoto ablums with the NAME of the person and a "f" blue facebook icon next to it. Simply click the "f" facebook icon to accept this tag as being correct. This will also link iPhoto's database listing for that person with facebook's so you should have correct links moving forward.

  • Where is ADF FACES HTML tags in JDeveloper 11g?

I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 for my project. I remembered in 10g I have a list of HTML tags such as, afh:tableLayout, afh:cellFormat, etc under ADF FACES HTML package. However, in new JDeveloper 11g, I could only see ADF Cores and there is no ADF Faces HTML tags. Are they still available in 11g? If so, how I could install those tags in JDeveloper 11g?

Thanks for your quick response. Actually I am converting a Trinidad project into ADF 11g. In old one, I used a lot of tableLayout components. It seems impossible for me to convert all those tableLayout into ADF 11g layout components in a short period of time.

  • Can address book use aperture faces?

Saw that Lion Address Book can use a link to iPhoto faces.  Upgraded to Aperture some time ago - is there any way of having Address Book look for the Aperture faces instead of iPhoto?

I've recently switched from Eudora to Apple Mail and I'm trying to understand Apple's Address Book.
I've entered some of my contacts with nicknames (Eudora provided the option of giving a contact a nickname) but whenever I send an email in Mail and add a contact it doesn't find by nickname plus it enters the person's full name (including middle initial) not nickname.
    Questions:
    1. Does the name of the contact <not the email address> in my Mail client and sent email have any impact on how the incoming message appears to the addressee?
yes. they will see the name that you use when composing the message so be careful with your nicknames.
    2. Is there a way to search and show as the name of contact in the To frame just the nickname?
    not that I know of.
    3. If the addressee's incoming email name is influenced by how I enter their name in my Address Book, do I then need to have multiple entries for the same person if I use their full name for snail mail and short or nickname for email?
    yes.

  • Can't locate ADF Faces Core tag document

I found a good ADF Faces core tag document (10g), using this URL, http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/a

  • Unlink Aperture from Facebook and still keep the albums on Facebook?

Is it possible to unlink Aperture from Facebook and still keep the albums untouched on Facebook?
I really liked the Facebook exporter feature in Aperture until I realized that whenever you deleted a project or photo from the program the changes are reflected in any Facebook album it was associated with. Now I'm concerned about what would happen if something goes amiss with my Aperture Library and would prefer to just manually upload my photos to Facebook from now on. I have seen a few fixes for the same issue in iPhoto but not much about Aperture and don't want to do the wrong this and all my photos disappear from my Facebook.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I do not publish to Facebook, so I cannot try this, but the "Aperture 3 User Manual" say this: See
Publishing Images to Flickr and Facebook
The recommended procedure is to disable your Facebook account in Aperture to unlink it from Facebook, not to delete the albums inside Aperture:
    Deleting Flickr and Facebook Albums
You can delete Flickr and Facebook albums in the Aperture library at any time. Keep in mind that deleting a Flickr or Facebook album in Aperture deletes the corresponding Flickr set or Facebook album along with its contents online.
Warning: Deleting Flickr and Facebook albums permanently deletes the corresponding Flickr sets and Facebook albums online. If you want to temporarily remove a Flickr or Facebook account in Aperture, but keep the albums and images as they are in your Flickr or Facebook account online, you can always disable your Flickr or Facebook account in Aperture. For more information about disabling and enabling accounts in Aperture, see Disabling and Enabling MobileMe, Flickr, and Facebook Accounts.

  • I don't want Facebook friends synced to Contacts.

In order to use Facebook from Preview and other apps, I need to login to Facebook. But then it says when I do that all Facebook friends will be imported into my Contacts, which I do not want. But I DO want to be able to sync Contacts through iCloud to my other devices. So how do I enable Facebook, not let it download friends to my Contacts, but keep other Facebook iCloud syncs?

OK, if I go where you said and enter my Facebook info, I get this message: "Signing into Facebook will: Download your Facebook friends to the Contadcts app...Allow you to post status update etc to Facebook...Enable apps to work with your Facebook account. In System Prefs you can disable Contacts syncing and disallow any app from accessing your Facebook account."
So it sounds like I only have two choices: To have all my Facebook friends in my Contacts (which I don't want; what a mess to scroll past them all on my phone) or to disable Contacts syncing, which will not allow all my contacts to stay synced between devices, right?

  • Uploading from Aperture to Facebook

I'm trying to upload some photos from Aperture to Facebook and I'm not having any luck.
    I select my photos
I click on the facebook button
I enter my email and my password and I accept the terms
I click on Login and I get:
An unknown error occurred.  Please try again later.
I installed Sean Farley's facebook exporter plug-in and I still get the same failure.  I also tried disabling secure browsing on facebook and that also had no effect.
Has anyone else run into this?  I'm guessing this has to do with facebook's continuous changes to their privacy and security mechanisms.
    Thanks!
