Aperture fails to run in Leopard 10.5.1
Howdy,
I commented in the related thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1311441&tstart=0), but as the original question is already "Answered" I figured I'd start a new thread. I installed Aperture 1.5 after updating to 10.5.1 and it fails to launch. So next I tried applying the 1.5.6 update, which failed. Unlike the related thread, I didn't have to "fix" my ProKit library as it was already at version 4.1. Has anyone else been able to install Aperture in 10.5.1 and have it successfully run, or did everyone install it on version 10.5.0?
Thanks!
If you want any help here from other users, then you'll need to give some details of what was in the Aperture crash log (Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Aperture.log in your user home area.)
Also, armed with that information, it's worth searching through this forum to see if a similar crash has been observed by anyone else - there are often clues as to the cause, or a way of fixing it.
(One first thing to check - If you've just installed 1.5 onto a fresh install of 10.5.1, make sure that it hasn't reverted your ProApps Framework version to 4.0.1. It should be 4.1, which came with Leopard.)

Error installing Windows 7 on Macbook running snow leopard
I've been trying to install Windows 7 on Macbook running snow leopard. During the windows install, it goes through expanding the files and then fails with errors saying the installation files are corrupted. I've gone back to boot camp assistant, and removed the partition, and then re-partitioned and still see the same issue. Has anyone seen this problem?
Read the Boot Camp Instructions located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/. You must use the same drive that contains OSX to install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant.

Will Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo run Snow Leopard ok?
I have the following system spec on my Macbook Pro which i bought in Apr 2006:
2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo
2 G 667 Mhz SDRam
I would like to know if Snow Leopard will run on my system. I have been getting a few glitches for the last while when running internet related searches for certain sites like Youtube, and sometimes with streaming video. I figured that maybe i need a more up to date OS as i've been a bit slack with updating it. Any thoughts fromt he community are welcomeYes. You can run Snow Leopard OK.
As you're starting from Tiger it's imperative you backup your current system before proceeding. That's best done by cloning it to an external HD using the Restore function in Disk Utility, or you can use third-party software such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.
The reason for this is that although the installation should go smoothly with the installer replacing system files and leaving your user data and applications untouched, I have come across a couple that failed and could only be installed after erasing the Macintosh HD.
Buy the retail Snow Leopard disc; http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
and update to 10.6.8 with the combo installer; http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Be aware that lots of software will need updating, not all of it for free (stand up, Adobe!), and you may well have difficulty getting drivers for older printers or scanners.
Ensure you select Rosetta from the optional installations to enable your older software to continue working. -
Aperture 1.5 and Snow Leopard
Hi guys,
I am running Snow Leopard and just installed Aperture 1.5, and aparently they don't like each other as I get the message that my version of Aperture does not run on this operating system.
Anyone knows of any updates or what can I do to make peace between the beasts?
Thank you very much! After seeing a number of listings that a 2 year old version of this software won't run on someone's 6 year old machine, I feel compelled to state my case, which is hopefully that of many others like me.
I feel fairly certain that Apple is following this directive internally, it is obvious Adobe is, but I just wanted to add my perspective.
I am a commercial photographer, have been for some 30+ years. I have not only my own system but also my employees I am paying to work on Aperture systems. I upgrade computer gear as soon as any significant performance increases are available, at worst about 25 months. The speed translates to more throughput, and better value for my salary dollars spent. Upgrading software on the Macs is just a cost of doing business. Faster it all runs, we all go home on time to our non photo lives.
I frankly don't care if Apple or Adobe drops support for some old hardware, no pro in his right mind would be using it...and folks, Aperture is a PRO app.
From my pro perspective, I don't want a single solitary synapse fire of an Aperture or Adobe, etc. programmer to be spent supporting old hardware/software. Focus on making the job faster for the pro, support my new cameras, enthusiasts who want pro stuff will find a way to pay for it.
Sell education versions of the software for cheap, heck, just give it away to those in that core curriculum. It would be great to have a recent graduate know the program, I would hire them in a heartbeat...but whatever you do, do not compromise the software from my perspective.
I don't want Apple to tell me the minimum requirements to run an app....I want them to tell me the setup that really causes the app to scream.
Most enthusiasts realize that if they want pro gear, it is gonna cost. My neighbor has $20K worth of Leica gear collected over his lifelong affair with the camera...but has never made a dime. He owns a great film scanner and has a 500GB Aperture library.
Adobe does not officially support Snow Leopard (or a number of newer CS4 ACR conversions) with CS3. I never expected them to, I don't want them to because it takes manpower they need to be using to keep their state-of-the-art pro apps on top. I pay my upgrade fees, I just need them to keep innovating and I will be buying new stuff till I retire.
Then shortly after retiring I will happily join the ranks of why this stuff won't work on my Wallstreet Powerbook, maxed with 192MB of RAM and a massive 2GB hard drive, running Mac OS 8.0.
After all, I spent $7K for it in 1998, Apple owes me!
Those numbers are real BTW, from my real May 1998 292MHz top-of-the-line Wallstreet...just think about what a sweet Mac Pro $7K buys today. Not my intention to be mean to non-pros, just adding some perspective. -
I have an Imac running snow leopard and have recently installed a cannon i-sensys lbp7750Cdn printer since then I can't get the printer working and the air port has lost the DNS servers; if it ever had them!!! but it dose not look happy and it is telling me so. Can any one help please?
Snow Leopard breaks quite a few drivers - my Canon exhibited the same problem.
I eventually found updated drivers on the Canon website. You can try that with the HP, but if the all-in-one is more than a year or so old, don't hold your breath.
You can also try Software Update to see if it will offer new drivers, or failing that go to the Support Downloads site and search for HP updates.
In fact there's a new one for HP at the top of the list just now.
You may not necessarily want the latest one, though - check the specs to see if your model is covered; if not, search for the previous update etc. -
Mail has gone crazy. Header's and messages are mixed up. New Mac Book Pro. Migrated files from Time machine running snow leopard. Reinstall or new computer needed?
Ok; I'm not sure what you're doing. 36 hours is rather long. Seems like a new migration. Not what I intended.
Here's what I intended: from the newly-migrated and apparently-corrupt environment, create a new user, not related to any existing user, nor any migration-created user, or any other user for that matter. That is, use > System Preferences > Users and Groups, authenticate yourself by clicking on the padlock, and then click the + and create a wholly new user. Then log in under that user and establish the mail access.
36 hours? I'm wondering if there's an error or an exceedingly slow network here? Or a really, really slow disk? Or a sick backup? (WiFi isn't the path I'd usually choose, either.)
Failing the attempted second migration, I'd try a different tactic. Does your existing (old) system work? If so, I'd bypass the backup and connect an external (scratch) USB disk drive to the (old) sstem and then boot and use Disk Utility booted from the installer DVD disk or boot and use Disk Utility from the recovery partition or booted from a recovery partition created on some other external storage (details here vary by the OS X version and what hardware you have), and perform a full-disk backup of your original internal disk to (scratch) external storage. (Make sure you get the source and target disks chosen correctly here; copying the wrong way — from the scratch disk to your existing disk — will clobber your data!) In esssence, this will clone your existing boot disk. Then dismount the (formerly-scratch) external disk, transfer it over to the new system, and use it as the source of the migration, by performing a fresh OS X installation on the new system.
Target Disk Mode is also sometimes an option for accessing the disk for a migration, but that requires the right cable, and requires systems that have the same external connection; newer MacBook Pro systems use Thunderbolt for this, and older systems tend to use FireWire. And I'm guessing you don't have compatible hardware.
The details here can and do vary by your OS X versions and your particular Mac systems — if you'll identify the specific models and hardware, somebody might be able to better tailor the above (fairly generic) sequence to your particular configuration. -
Aperture fails to open, crashes :(
Trying to open Aperture fails, it says it discovers inconsistencies in our library, it then repairs and immediately crashes.

That is a very typical crash. Apple has released a support article for this situation: You need to deinstall and reinstall Aperture. See this article:
Aperture 3.4 and later: Some third-party plug-ins are no longer compatible

I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I would like to start using it again, however it is so out of date and runs too slowly. What are my options to update it? I really don't want to invest a ton of money - I might as well get a new one, so if there are any reasonable ways to get it to run Snow Leopard or even Lion, please help. I've also considered using a mac mini? Is that worth it either? I'm not sure which way to go here. I don't want to trash it, I feel like it can be a great computer if updated.
Presumably it is running tiger 10.4.11?
It may be able to run Leopard 10.5:
Leopard system requirements:
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP517
But that is as far as the old PPC Macs can go, and Leopard can cost up to $200 on Amazon. -
I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, 4GB Memory. and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model? Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite?
When I had gone to the apple care centre in India a few months ago to upgrade my OSX to Mountain Lion, I was told that considering my macbook pro's specs, upgrading it would just make it less efficient, and that I should stick to Snow Leopard unless I consider buying a newer mac that would benefit from it. Is this true? I find it a bit hard to believe. Which update is most recommended?
I also notice that my mac has gotten considerably slower. While using chrome, it buffers and struggles with even just 5 tabs open. Could this have something to do with my current ios? As a precaution, I have always been making sure I have enough free space on disk i.e around 70 - 100 free out of 250GB.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

Hi,
Can anyone help resolving the following problem.
We've been developing an ADF application with JDeveloper 11.1.2.3 and it works fine when run both with its IntegratedWebLogic or when deployed to a standalone Glassfish server.
We want to switch to JDeveloper 12.1.2.0. and use new UI components.
We are able to successfully open the application in JDeveloper 12c - the migration logs say it was successfully converted, all projects, pages, task flows, classes open and can be edited just fine. However the application fails to run with IntegratedWebLogic.
Application is using modules included via ADF shared libraries:
CommonUI.jar and CommonModel.jar -> included in ApplicationModule1 and ApplicationModule2.
Both ApplicationModule1 and ApplicationModule2 work fine when tested with IntegratedWebLogic.
They are in turn included in the MasterApplication as ApplicationModule1.jar and ApplicationModule2.jar.
However the MasterApplication (SLABAccountMaster) fails to run. It gets deployed, but there is an exception when accessing the first page: The UIViewRoot is null. Fatal exception during PhaseId: RESTORE_VIEW 1.
I've posted a fragment of the logs below. I can include all of it - but it's huge.

I have an IMAP mailbox that seems to only show mail 7 days on my iMac running Snow Leopard. However, on my MacBook Pro I can see all old mail that I have not deleted. It is running the next operating system (Lion?). Does anyone know how I can get all my old mail back on my iMac. It is my primary computer and I need some of those old messages. I have tried to rebuild the mailbox but it has not done anything.
I have tried to rebuild the mailbox to no avail. The mailbox behavior says: Drafts (not checked) store draft messages on the server, Notes (checked) show not in Inbox, Sent (checked) Store sent messages on the server Delete sent messages when (option never selected), Junt (not checked) store junk messages on the server Delete junk messages when (option never selected), Trash (checked) moves deleted messages to the Trash mailbox and (checked) store deleted messages on the server Permanently erase deleted messages when (one month old option selected).
I have not set up any rules that I know of other than a signature, in the very least I have not changed any. -
Hi, I've seen a lot of discussion on this topic but nothing specific to my situation. I have two macs, a personal mac (macbook running Snow Leopard vers. 10.6) and a newer work macbook pro (late 2011 running Lion vers. 10.7.5). I want to use some of the applications at work (that is on the Macbook Pro) that are on my home macbook with Snow Leopard. I cloned the entire HD of my Macbook onto an external drive. The clone seems to have worked as I can use it as a boot disk for the macbook (from which it was cloned). However, if I try to boot the MacBook Pro running Lion, with this same clone on the external drive it won't work. I get a bit of text in the background and an overlay in dark grey saying (in several languages) restart the Mac by holding down the start key etc. I don't know if this has to do with the kernel panic problem or the Lion restore disk business. I don't see the point in trying to do an internal partition of the MacBook Pro hard drive and then add the cloned Snow Leopard, if I can't get the thing to boot externally as it is.
Does anyone have any fixes for what really should be a simple proceedure but is not?Make sure the mac you are cloning from has the combo 10.6.8 update applied to it. The late 2011 models need at least 10.6.7 and better with 10.6.8. So if your older mac is running anything lower than 10.6.7 it will not boot on the 2011 model.

I'm running snow leopard. The try to open any .mov file in Quicktime, and I get an error message that says, "The document xyz.mov could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that Quicktime player understands. I'm a recent upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Help!
Thanks, MarkUnfortunately, the error message gives no details about what codec might be missing or what it needs.
If the file can't be opened in QT, it only means you cannot use the QT "Inspector" window to check what compression formats were used to create the file. It does not mean you can't use the Finder "Information" window to check on the compression formats or use a third party media information window (e.g., like VLC which will open many compression formats not supported natively by QT) to determine what kind of data is included in the MOV wrapper. If the file cannot be opened in any app, it is usually a good sign that the file itself is corrupted.
It's a stupid error message. Apple should do better than that.
Error trapping is quite extensive but there are still many areas which require human oversight. The message is telling you that either the container has a problem (e.g., not properly terminated, non-standard, or corrupted) or that one or more of the compression formats used is not supported by your current codec component configuration or that the data was encoded using non-standard settings or preferences not supported by QT or that the fourCC code does not match the data contained in the file or that there are timecode inconsistencies, etc., etc., etc. In short there are a near infinite number of possible problems for which it would be very difficult/nearly impossible to program error trapping depending on your sourcing of content and how you process it before it reaches the player app. Think of it like trying to play a BD disc in an DVD player.
I'll call Apple support when I get a chance.
Chances are good that they will end up sending you back here. In any case, it is often a good idea to post a sample file for examination by other QT users. At the very least, they should be able to tell you if the sample file will play on other systems which would indicate whether or not the file itself is bad and under the best of circumstances whould allow them to examing the file in detail for various common problems. -
IS THE SITUATION HOPELESS
I used Target mode to transfer files to a new i7 iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from an older Dual core Intel machine (EMC 2105) also on 10.6.8. but originally Tiger 10.4. The operation was successful and I ejected the disk icon from the new machine and powered down the old machine. When this was restarted the next day there was a grey screen with flashing Mac symbol alternating with a 'no entry' sign and occasionally a question mark.Keyboard and mouse were unusable so k inserted the original instal disc (No.1 for 10.4. with installer 1.0.4) which came with the machine in 2006 in an attempt to boot from this. The ensuing window said this was not possible and now it cannot be ejected.I have tried everything ! It offers Disk Utility and other options like Terminal but that doesn't work either.I 'repaired disk' and that was pronounced o.k. None of the various keystrokes at start up will work, and the computer will only offer the installer disc continually. The only option would seem to be is to erase the hard drive completely from the disc in the machine.I don't want to do this as there is still material which I need to recover. I think the drive has in some way been corrupted by using it in target mode, and I don't know if there are any other options to try.
Please tell me how to get this disc to eject !Graham Giles wrote:
Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
• I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?
