Aperture falls over loading images

I've searched extensively and can't find my specific problem discussed.
When recently attempting to select a previously-developed image from my library, the 'loading image' message displayed for 20-30 seconds before Aperture crashed. After repeated experiences of this, I deleted the master from the library, reloaded it from my archive, and reapplied my adjustments. I quitted then restarted Aperture and the had the exact same problem with the image.
Now I find I have another adjusted image giving the same problem, and I'm worried there are more waiting to be discovered. There's no apparent corruption in the original (Canon CR2) image file, but it seems Aperture may be corrupting them in the adjustment process somehow.
Is this a known problem? Is there a fix or workaround? Thanks in advance for any assistance or suggestions.

Have you tried the open the photo in another application? Sometimes the image file is corrupted from the camera. I have a few image files that Aperture, Photoshop...cannot work with from the same card.
The workaround is to open the thumnail of the RAW with Preview and taking a grab from it and work with that. Not a very good solution but it works if the grab is huge like from a 30" monitor. If the photo is a vertical shot rotate it to a horizontal first prior to the grab.

  • Aperture fails to load images from CF card, now not able to open

    I have a new Canon 5D Mark III camera and was sold a  Lexar SD Professional 32 GB card and a Lexar Professional UDMA 7 Compact Flash 32 GB card.  Downloading the images from the camera is a problem.  I am using  a Mac Book Pro 15" with operating system OSX 10.6.8.   Aperture is on a Lacie external hard drive and now fails to open.  Yesterday, a message saying 'unreadable files' would show and a few images would be saved to Aperture.  Also, later, an 'unrecognizable format' message would appear. Before it stopped working, it would download one or two selected images but not a large number of images.
    Any solutions?  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thank you!

    Thanks Ernie!  The images would not load from the camera with the USB camera supplied cable.  Yes, the MBP has slot for the SD card and it downloads the images.
    The Aperture library is on the LaCie external HD.  Don't know if the drive is formatted as OS X extended.
    After posting the entry, I went to the local Staples store and purchased a Verbatium card reader and lo and behold, the world is fine.  The Aperture has returned and I was able to download all the CF card images.  The card reader would not read the SD card despite having it listed as one of the cards it's able to read.  Don't know what's happening here but at least I can use the MBP slot.
    To me, it's strange!  It was all looking quite grim!  Thank you for your assistance!

  • Aperture busy for 3 days trying to import over 1000 images

    I am trying to import over 1000 images, and Aperture is showing busy with the colorful dial since 3 days ago.
    How can I check the import log to ensure it is busy working and not stuck?

    First, sign out of MobileMe from your System Preferences, the "Mobile Me" tab.
    Press the "Sign out" button.
    Then launch Aperture again. If you still see the "MobileMe" panel, press the "Learn More" button, not the o.k. button. Ignore the web page tat will open.
    In Aperture go to the File menu > Web Accounts > Edit Web Accounts.
    Delete the MobileMe account.
    Now you should be able to find the project (partially) downloaded from Mobile Me in the Library Inspector panel. This will have MobileMe in the name. Trash it.

  • Firefox does not load images over HTTPS

    When viewing secure sites (HTTPS) images are not displayed on FF 3.6.6
    For example: I can not see images on Gmail, Google Images or StumbleUpon
    I have checked the images settings and it automatically loads images from all sites, there are no domains blocked
    There is no add-on to block images
    Javascript is enabled
    I've tested almost all network configuration but the problem persists
    If I inspect the image with Firebug 1.5.4 the image is available as preview
    The same page is correctly displayed on IE8
    I've tested in safe-mode but the error remains
    Again... I suspect it has something to do on how FF 3.6.6 handles HTTPS
    Even if you do not have an answer, post if you experience the same problem.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Info pane that loads when you hover over an image

    I think by mistake I have enabled an info pane that opens when you hover over an image with the cursor. I don't know how I have done this but it is driving me mad. Can anyone help with turning this feature off?

  • Image cannot be rendered because Aperture does not support image format

    Dear all,
    I have installed apple Aperture 3.03 and the complete Nick software plug-in selection:
    • Dfine 2.0 for Aperture
    • Color Efex Pro 3.0 Complete for Aperture
    • Silver Efex Pro for Aperture
    • Sharpener Pro 3.0 for Aperture
    • Viveza 2 for Aperture
    History
    Until a few days ago the system was running ok / no notable issues on performance. / all pug in seem to run good / no issues. Also
    • I Run OSX10.4/ Aperture 3.03 ( 32Bit mode)
    • My library contains just over 10000 images / approximately 140GB
    • I have recently updated the OSX software update including the security update 2010-005
    • as well as the Snow leopard graphic update 1.0
    • As far as I am aware all updates where automatically recommended by OSX Software update ( no manual intervention).
    • As far as I remember after update the system still was running ok but honestly I can not tell you how many times the Nick Plug in started out of Aperture.
    After all, Several times I continued using the system / still no noticeable problem until the following was happening:
    Problem:
    After creating with "PT gui" a panoramic image File type: "TIF" Pixel size: 5112 × 2556 (13,1 MP) I imputed this file in to Aperture (drag and drop). During the attempt to eddied this file with "Nick Define 2.0" the system was hamming up No response for several minutes from Dfine 2.0 / Aperture" At the end I had to "force quit" the applications.
    After the consequential reopening of Aperture I tried again to eddied images with any Nick software Plug-In but each time Aperture prepares any image previously stored in my Library ti open the Pug in the following Error message appears:
    *"This image cannot be rendered for editing because Aperture does not support the image format"*
    Currently non of my previously in the library safed images can be opened in a Nick software Plug-In this applies to all file types I have tied " Raw, tif, jpg"
    • I am still able to eddied normally with Aperture ( so far I do not find any other issue)
    • A newly imported Raw image after being taken with my EOS 5D can be edited in the completed Nick software Plug-In selection ( so far I do not find any other issue)
    The following actions have been taken to overcome the issue (all not successful):
    • I restored my Library out of my back Up ( to previous time of event ( no Time machine back up)
    • Uninstallation of all Nick software Plug-In selection
    • Uninstallation Aperture Reinstallation Aperture / Nick software Plug-In selection
    • Repairing the library ( all three possibilities)
    • installation of latest EOS utilitys
    Questions
    • Can you support me to overcome this issue?
    • Have you heard similar issues of Nick user Running the Aperture plug-ins?
    For me it is really strange that even after replacing the the library in my normally not connect back up the problem still exists (this should be not affected by the event as the back up was not done any more) / new imported images are editable with the Plug-In.
    I would be happy if you could support me in this issue.
    Best regards,
    Matthias
    PS: I have reported this issue to Apple (via Aperture feedback) as well as contacted the Nick software support and currently waiting for feedback.

    Dear Ma-Le / All
    I have just had the same problem
    I use
    • Aperture 3.03 with a iMac 2.8 Intel Core 2 Duo with all files on external hard disks (mac extended fomat as apple suggests) with referenced masters.
    • Camera Nikon D300, with probably 75,000+ images on 2 hard drives
    • Photoshop CS2 with PhotoTools 2.5 plugin
    This has been working perfectly until yesterday when the system froze when I was using PhotoTools 2.5 with Photoshop CS2 - as a result of which I resorted to a force quit.
    Since then on most of my files it has not been possible to use an external editor.
    A message appears saying: *Editing Error - This image cannot be rendered for editing because Aperture does not support image format*.
    The problem seems to apply to the attempted use of any external editor (including Noise Ninja)
    The following have each been tried, all unsuccessfully:
    - Using each of Aperture's library 3 first aid options
    - Rebuilding directory using Diskwarrior
    - Checking for virus using Virus Barrier X4
    - Defragmenting library hard disk using TechTool pro
    - Changing permissions settings
    - Using Disk Utility first aid to repair permissions and checking main disk
    - Removing some plist elements when open 'show package contents' of library
    - Setting up a(n almost clean) new system, with newly loaded version of Aperture, with a new library from a vault saved prior to the crash when the problem first occured
    Several things seem to me to be totally bizarre:
    1 - The problem is the same on the other library hard disk which was not in use at the time
    2 - The problem still occurs when a back up vault saved prior to this problem is loaded - using a new hard disk with a new system and a newly reloaded and upgraded Aperture software
    3- The problem seems inconsistent. It appears to affect some photos but not all. Even from the same shoot, some photos can be edited using an external editor, whilst others cannot (but as far as i can tell most of the photos in a particular album seem to be consistently affected)
    4- The only way around it seems to be if I import a new (copy image) from the original master. Then everything works ok, and I can successfully edit that copy image in photoshop / phototools plug-in.
    I am beginning to wonder whether what has been corrupted is Aperture's ability to make copies from the master file which it then uses with the external editor (I have no real idea whether this is correct)
    Does anyone have any ideas or solutions - or has anyone else been suffering a similar problem?
    Eric
    PS: As a professional photographer this problem is a really serious issue for me - and I really don't really want to go to Lightroom or Capture One

  • Safari falling over due to JavaScript?

    Hi Folks,
    I was wondering if anyone on these discussions knew why Safari keeps crashing on me. It originally started on one website (Facebook) that could consistently keep bringing Safari down. I looked around and saw that many people were blaming the flash plugin, so even though I never seemed to have any problems on any other sites that used flash I assumed that was the case.
    However recently Safari has been falling over almost every 30 mins or so and now on sites that would normally have been rock solid, like bbc.co.uk or even Apple's own website. From the crash logs replicated below it seems to be the Javascript that's falling over but I can't be sure as Flash is mixed in there too.
    If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to stop this from happening or if they could just point out what is actually going on I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Nope definitely says its version 9.0.124.0 on both the flash site and the safari installed plugins page, I checked the adobe website and the latest download is definitely listed as 9.0.124.0 for intel macs.
    http://www.elec.gla.ac.uk/~garethr/random/flash_site.png
    http://www.elec.gla.ac.uk/~garethr/random/safari_plugins.png
    I'll try and downgrade anyway and see what happens, as a side question is it definitely a problem with Flash then and not Javascript? It's just in further study I noticed the thread that crashed was a JavaCore thread and the fact that the console log was saying it was an "Invalid Memory Address" made me assume it was a SegFault somewhere in the JavaScript.

  • Adobe Photoshop cs6 over citrix, Image Issue

    HI Guys,
    I am Citrix Tech, could you please help or suggest me in get this issue sorted. we have published Adobe Photoshop CS6 over Citrix which uses ICA protocol. When user launches the application and opens a image it loads with Blue coat color over the image.

    Thanks for the update, yes initial checks reveals it is something to deal with Citrix. I was able to open the same image fine locally on Server, but when accessd via citrix it comes with Blue color.
    As of now Citrix have advised to have Citrix Roll pack 05 to be installed.
    Will update if that fixes

    Hi. I have the same issue with Aperture loading and the splash screen staying visible. If you select the About menu option and then click the splash screen it does go away but the menus are disabled and no Aperture window opens. I have pinned it down to a Time Machine problem.
    I have four internal drives in my MacPro, one of which I use for documents and pictures. I foolishly selected the 1Tb drive with my pictures on to be the backup drive for Time Machine. I didn't actually do a backup as all I did was flick the on/off switch in System preferences. That was enough it seems. If you look closely I suspect that the permissions for the disk have been modified. I now have some 'unknown' user with read-write access that i can't delete and I have noticed that if I want to copy any file to that volume it asks me for my admin authentication password. If I go to preferences in Aperture and select a different location on my startup drive. then force quit Aperture and relaunch, all is well and the aperture browser/workspace window opens. Of course this doesn't solve my issue because even though I have now switched to using another drive for backups, Time Machine has not reversed the changes it made to the permissions.

  • Cfpop falls over with attachments with %'s in the name

    Hi there,
    We are running CF 7.02 MX on a Windows 2003 Server.
    We have a scheduled process that runs which collects mail
    using cfpop, modifies it and forwards it on.
    If any of the downloaded mails contains an attachment with an
    unusual character in it's name e.g..
    AFU%image.JPG
    ..then the task falls over and doesn't complete. I've had a
    look in the application logs and this is accompanied by entries
    like...
    "The resource D:\codepath\htdocs\attachment\
    AFU%imge.JPG was not found.The root cause was: . The
    specific sequence of files included or processed is:
    D:\wwwroot\website\wwwroot\schedule\schedtask.cfm, line: 1254 "
    Notice the % seems to have got it confused as to what the
    attachment name is. It seems to have lost the "
    a" somehow. So the failure is simply down to the fact that,
    having confused itself over what the filename actually is, it can
    no longer find the true path to the file.
    If the attachments dont contain odd characters it works fine.
    Any ideas? We're really struggling.
    What I'm after is a workaround or a solution to the
    corruption of the filename since I'm guessing if it keeps the
    filename intact then all will be well (as it will still be able to
    find the file).

    Bump. ^
    Anyone with any thoughts on this? We're really
    struggling.

  • Referencing loaded images in APEX

    Hi all:
    Up until this point, I have used the same method of getting images to be recognized by an Apex
    installation. That specifically has been through loading images into a physical directory on the
    machine where APEX was installed. This was made available to me by the DBA that installed APEX.
    This is Application Express 2.2.0.00.32 running on AIX Unix.
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    This arrangement worked. I was able to reference any image loaded to that directory using
    "/i/[image].gif". "/i/" was set as my pseudo directory by default on Apex.
    Over time, I developed an application that is now ready to deploy in like environments and I have
    never had a problem with viewing graphics.
    For the purposes of demoing to a specific customer, I was asked to deploy this to a different environment
    temporarily, I was given the option of loading my application to a Windows XP environment running
    Oracle XE and Application Express 2.1.0.00.39.
    Since there was no physical directory that I could locate for images, it seemed to me that my only
    option was to load my images using the wizard for loading image file components (which I understand
    means using XDB)...
    I was not been able to get this to work. I went back to my AIX Unix/Oracle 10g installation and attempted
    to do the same (load images as a file component and reference them). To my surprise it didn't work there
    either.
    These are the steps I took in attempting this:
    1.) Within my application definition, go to "Shared components"
    2.) Under the Files section, I click on "images"
    3.) Click on the button labeled "Create"
    4.) The page "Create Image" appears. I click on the "Browse" button and I pick the image from my local file system.
    5.) I leave the drop-down list as is (reading "No Application Associated")
    6.) I click on the "Upload" button.
    I then go back to my application under "Edit Attributes" and reference the file as /i/[file].gif
    I find that the images do not show up. On IE, all I get is the standard red "X" indicating that
    an image file failed to load.
    I can't help thinking that I'm missing an obvious step. Let me know if there's any other info I should
    provide.
    Thanks

    HI,
    To reference images loaded through shared components use:
    #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#filename.gif (when you set it to No Application Associated)
    or
    #APP_IMAGES#filename.gif (when you associate it with a specific application)

  • Why do some webpages not finish loading images when using cellular data instead of WiFi?

    I'm using iPhone 6 64gb. The problem existed with iOS 8.0.0 and the iOS 8.0.2 update.
    I have had trouble with webpages loading slowly over AT&T LTE. Sites with multiple images frequently have trouble loading all the images entirely. Instead, the unloaded portion of the image fills in with black or the image fails to load at all. If I switch to WiFi when available and refresh the page, the images will usually reload completely. I never had this problem with the iPhone 5s on the same websites.

    I'm on AT&T with an iPhone 5 first gen. This problem is happening across iPhone4s al of the way to iPhone6+
    Thought it was only affecting newer iPhones with new Graphic Processors but I later ruled that out.
    Seems to only be happening on LTE / 4G. Is not affected on WIFI for me.
    I clear cache, crash browser and even reset the phone but will still get unexpected results in LTE or 4G.
    The images seem to be getting prematurely cached and are only partially rendering.
    When I save the these half loaded images in photoshop I get a warning that they are damaged and/or truncated.
    I have saved images out as PNG and JPGs renders poorly.
    About the images-
    These images are only 15k and there are 16 on the page so I can't see why they would get bottlenecked when loading.
    also, there is no background-color of black anywhere in the CSS.
    Note the TV-Like static on the bottom image similar to the comment  ryzer08 above.

  • Load images in the correct order, needs help..

    I have tried loading in some images in the order of the xml files.. that contain them ..
    they did load in one by one but .. in  random order .. so mabe i am doing too much or too liitle can some one give it asecond look for me ..
    //-- load Xml
    urlLoader.load(new URLRequest("loader_alpabet/loader_alpabet.xml"));
    urlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,xmlReady);
    this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,entFrm);
    // process the Xml and create array of objs
    function xmlReady(evt:Event):void {
         xml=new XML(evt.target.data);
         var xmlListUrls:XMLList=new XMLList(xml.image.url.text());
         var xmlListNames:XMLList=new XMLList(xml.image.name.text());
         var xmlListDescs:XMLList=new XMLList(xml.image.description.text());
         for (var g:Number = 0; g < xmlListNames.length(); g++) {
              imagePack.push({name:xmlListNames[g],url:xmlListUrls[g],desc:xmlListDescs[g]});
              if (xmlListUrls.length()==imagePack.length) {
                   loaderMachine();
    //this is where i position the images
    function entFrm(evt:Event):void {
         if (imageIcons.length>0) {
              for (var g:Number = 0; g < imageIcons.length; g++) {
                   imageIcons[g].x=(centerX+Math.cos(angle+g)*radiusX)-imageIcons[g].width/2;
                   imageIcons[g].y=(centerY+Math.sin(angle+g)*radiusY)-imageIcons[g].height/2;
                   imageIcons[g].scaleX=imageIcons[g].scaleY= ((imageIcons[g].y/150) - 0.5);
                   stage.addChildAt(imageIcons[g], imageIcons[g].scaleX);
                   angle+=speed;
    //-- loader function
    function loaderMachine():void {
         trace(imagePack.length);
         loader = new Loader();
         loader.load(new URLRequest(imagePack[count].url));
         loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,imageReady);
    // put image on stage
    function imageReady(evt:Event):void {
         var image:Bitmap = (Bitmap)(evt.target.content);
         addChild(image);
         imageIcons.push(image);
         count++;
         if (count<imagePack.length) {
              loaderMachine();

    ah, I missed the 2nd version of the code
    You have to take the loaderMachine(); call out of the loop, call it after the loop.
    function xmlReady(evt:Event):void {
         xml=new XML(evt.currentTarget.data);
         var xmlListUrls:XMLList=new XMLList(xml.image.url.text());
         var xmlListNames:XMLList=new XMLList(xml.image.name.text());
         var xmlListDescs:XMLList=new XMLList(xml.image.description.text());
         for (var g:Number = 0; g < xmlListNames.length(); g++) {
              imagePack.push({name:xmlListNames[g],url:xmlListUrls[g],desc:xmlListDescs[g]});
          // start loading images
         loaderMachine();
    You're overwriting you loader instance each time you load an image, that's not good if you want it to stick around (display each loaded image).
    So in the method, create a local Loader instance and add it to the Array stack.
    Don't start the enterFrame event handler until all images are loaded.
    You can do so in the imageReady() event handler (check if counter equals array length).
    Don't add event listeners in the enterFrame event handler, you're adding them over and over again.
    So remove these from entFrm()
    imageIcons[g].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,btn_mouse);
    imageIcons[g].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT,btn_mouse);
    Don't use Event.target (unless you know what you're doing), use currentTarget instead.
    function imageReady(evt:Event):void {
         var loader:Loader = (event.currentTarget as LoaderInfo).loader;
         loader.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, btn_mouse);
         loader.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, btn_mouse);
         addChild((loader);
         count++;
         if (count<imagePack.length) {
              loaderMachine();
        }else{
              addEventListener(Event.ENTERFRAME, entFrm);
    Don't use Array.length in a loop condition, as this will check the lenght with each iteration, slowing down the loop.
    Set it to a local variable once and use that as the loop condition.
    var len:uint = imageIcons.length;
    for(var i:uint=0; i<len; i++) {}
    Last but not least, you're probably better off using a tween engine rather than an enterFrame event to move things around.
    Look into TweenLite.
    http://blog.greensock.com/tweenlite/
    It now looks like the enterFrame event continues untill you roll over one of the buttons? If so, that can't be good..
    function loaderMachine():void {
         var loader:Loader = new Loader();
         loader.load(new URLRequest(imagePack[count].url));
         loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, imageReady);
         imageIcons.push(loader);

  • Aperture Size Over 300GB, is this too big

    Greetings,
    I have a library a little over 300 GB in size, and growing. I am about to upgrade to Aperture 3, but am scared because if anything happens to this file, I am toast, (all of my family pictures there). I know there are a trillion discussions about how to save files, but my main concern is if I should split the library's up into smaller ones, (perhaps by month), and if so what is the best method of doing so but still have access to the pictures with ease. What is a good size for a library so it is easy to manage.
    Thanks in advance.

    Michael-
    Yours is a common problem, even typical when folks use Managed Masters. With a 300+ GB Library you are no doubt currently using Aperture's (unfortunately default) Managed-Masters setup, which invariably leads to overfilled hard drives on single-drive boxes.
    Splitting into multiple Libraries is a very bad idea, unnecessary and defeating of the purpose of an images management app. Once you switch to the more appropriate *Referenced-Masters Library* Aperture will help you keep from overfilling the internal drive.
    First off, all *hard drives should be less than 70% full.* That is important for speed and stability. Don't try to do anything until <70% full is achieved for all drives. To get to less than 70% full move data off of the internal drive to external drives.
    The Aperture Library should live on the internal drive for best speed.
    Best solution (after you achieve minimum 30% free space on all drives), especially with mobility-hardware computers like laptops and iMacs, is to reconfigure your image Masters to have a *Referenced-Masters Library* on the internal drive with the Masters referenced on external drives via FW800 or (preferably) eSATA; however Referenced Masters usually do still work adequately with Masters accessed on externals via slower methods like FW400 or USB. After a slow reconfiguration process it will work fine, your speed and operation will be recovered and the Referenced-Masters Library will remain a reasonable size, not again grow to overfill the internal drive.
    Note that Vaults back up the Library but a Referenced-Masters Library does not have the Masters in it, so Masters must be separately backed up. *I very strongly recommend that back up of original Master files be performed BEFORE importing into Aperture.*
    Aperture 3 has improved methodology for handling Libraries. I suggest that your steps should be:
    • Back up your current Library with its Masters to a Vault on an external drive.
    • Move data off of the internal drive to external drives to get to less than 70% full.
    • Install Aperture 3 and set it to use your existing Library on the internal drive.
    • Back up the Library with its Masters to another Vault on an external drive. Do not delete or over-write the first Vault you made; this second Vault is a redundant copy of the same Library but after conversion to Aperture 3. Probably you will never need either Vault but it is good to be careful.
    • Use Aperture 3's tools to reconfigure your Library to be a *Referenced-Masters Library* on the internal drive with the Masters referenced on external drives.
    • In the future back up Masters before import into Aperture or any other images management application. Then with the new Masters on external drives select Store Files: "In their current location" from the import window when importing into Aperture. This will maintain a *Referenced-Masters Library*. Routinely create Vaults to back up the Library.
