Aperture freezes when restoring vault

It's aperture 351 running on a macbook air 1.7 GHz Intel core i7 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Intel HD graphics 5000 and OS X 10.9.3.
Aperture library was in crashed external HD.
Aperture freezes when trying to restore library in vault.
What can I do?

When I try to restore library from the original vault file I know it freezes because I can see in the "force quit" window that Aperture is "not responding".
The "not responding" does not necessarily mean that Aperture is hanging. It may be just too busy to respond.
It is hard to estimate the time it will take for the restore to complete. I have waited for about an hour to rebuild a library of 300 GB.
Where are you trying to restore the vault to? Do you have enough free disk space on the drive?
I've done that. It just doesn't work! Actually it seems to be trying to read something for hours. Don't low how long it takes to open a 320 GB library.
That is a pity. How is the drive formatted, where your vault is located? Is it formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled)? Otherwise you may have problems with pathnames and files not found.
Also, have you set the "Ignore ownership on this volume" flag for the drive with this library?
You can do this from the File > Get Info" panel for the drive.
If the file system is o.k., and also the "Ignore ownership" flag, try the library first Aid Tools on your vault with the the changed filename extension. Try to repair the permissions, the database, and to rebuild the library, in this order:
Make a copy of the vault, if you do not have a backup.
Hold down the key combination alt/option ⌥ and command ⌘ at the same time, while launching Aperture by double-clicking the vault. Keep holding down the keys firmly, until you see the First Aid panel.
Select "Repair database" from the panel. This may take a long time for a large library. Don't interrupt it.
If Repair does not suffice, do a Rebuil as well.

Have you tried any trouble shooting steps?
First of all check, if you have enough free disk space for the export. The oprating system needs working space in addition to the size of the of the exported image file. Keep at least 10GB free.
Where are you exporting to? To a folder on your system drive or an external drive? Do you have write permissions on that folder?
Try to repair your Aperture library - see this Manual page:
Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
If repairing the database does not help, try "repair permissions" as well, and finally "Rebuild". Make a backup of your library, before trying to rebuild.

Aperture freezes when syncing to Smugmug

Upgraded to 3.5 and added Smugmug account for sharing. I can click on the Smugmug option in the projects leftside toolbar and photos are displayed. I attempted to create a new Smugmug gallery from an existing project and Aperture freezes. Have tried multiple times with same result. I must Force Quit to get out of Aperture. Is anyone else having this issue?

I do not have a solution for you, but just so you know, mine has been working fine. I just wish they would add export presets so I can upload as different size files.

Freeze when restoring Mail from Time Machine backup

I had to have the logic board and solid state drive replaced on my Retina MabookPro and before I dropped it off at the Genius Bar I did a full Time Machine backup to an external drive. I have my fixed Mac back, and restored from that backup, but when I try and start Mail it says "Mail needs to import your messages" and then begins the progress bar for importing my messages. The problem is that it always freezes somewhere during the import, and now I am afraid I have lost all of my old mail.
First off, why does it need to re-import? Why can't it just work off the orignal Mail database backed up via Time Machine? And secondly, is there an advanced rebuild or other option that can hopefully recover my mail database? Anything else to try?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Itunes 7 Freezes when Restoring Shuffle

I have a 1st generation shuffle and it became corrupted, so I attempted to restore it in Itunes 7 but it never finishes. I've left it restoring for up to 2 hours and the bar just keeps going and never finishes. I tried formatting it in Windows Explorer and then restoring it, but that doesn't work either it just keeps restoring never finishing. I tried the install disk that came with the iPod and when I run it it craashes at the end asking if I want to send an error report. Has anyone had this problem?

Yeah when I plug mine in to update it automatically, iTunes freezes, but if I update it manually it works fine. I had the same problem with the storage with my old iPod, it would always say that it was full and that I couldn't put more music on. I just restored my iPod and it was fine.

Aperture freezes when performing a "Consistency Check"

Hi everyone,
today I have updated my Aperture 1.x library to a brand new Aperture 2.1 one.
Unfortunately the conversion process freezed (it looked like it was finished because the little conversion window had disappeared) and, after waiting a very long time, i forced-quit Aperture.
Everything seems to be fine (all the pictures are there...) but I still don't feel very safe.
So I decided to rebuild the library and perform a consistency check: the former went fine while the latter freezes Aperture (I have waited 1+ hour).
Is that a bug or am I doing something wrong?

IPhone 3GS 8GB Freezes when restoring

I had to restore my Iphone 3GS this morning and I've been trying to solve this problem all day. On itunes where it says 'Restoring iPhone Software...' at the top, it gets to about 50% of the way across and it it just stops whilst on the phone screen the progress bar is at approximately 20%. I've left it for a few hours and tried a lot of times all with the same result. Anyone had any similar problems or know any solutions?
My phone is not Jailbroken and I do not have wifi sync installed on my PC.

Just left it over night and it's done the same, anyone got any ideas?

Why does Aperture 3.4.5 freeze when making a slideshow?

I have tried two methods of creating a slideshow:
1. Using the 'play slideshow' option from the File menu.
2. Using the 'new - slideshow' option from the File menu.
In the first case, Aperture simply freezes. The choice of 'theme' (Classic, Ken Burns, etc) does not come up, and nor can anything be selected from the library inspector. The only option was to use Force Quit.
In the second case, a new slideshow is available at the bottom of the library inspector; however, when dragging and dropping pictures, as soon as I try to look in the slideshow folder, Aperture freezes with the 'loading' message (and rotating circle). No pictures can be seen in the slideshow folder. The only option was to use Force Quit.
In both cases, all the photos are less than 3.5 MB, and there were approximately 50 photos in each folder. No music or video was added.
As an aside, I have tried deleting and reinstalling Aperture, and it has not made any difference.
Grateful for any assistance on creating and playing slideshows.

Are you always trying with the same images, or does it happen with any images you try?
if it only happens, when ecrtain imges are included, remove these images from your library.
If it happens with any image you try, create a new Aperture Library (File > Switch to Library > Other/new) and test, if Aperture can play slideshows using a new library.
If you can play slideshows in a new Aperture library, repair or rebuild your main Aperture library, see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
And if you cannot even play a slideshow from a new library, remove your Aperture preferences, see: Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Aperture back to its original settings. This will not impact your image files or your library. To reset your Aperture user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
Quit Aperture.
In the Finder choose Go to folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. Press the Go button.
Remove the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Note: The locations of your Aperture libraries are stored in the preference file listed above. If you have stored your library outside the default location of ~/Pictures/Aperture Library, make a note of where the library is before deleting the Aperture preferences file. If you have more than one library, you can bring up a dialog to choose which one to load by pressing Option immediately after you open Aperture.
Post back, if none of this helps.

Vault problem. Aperture freezes (it is cold in Colorado today). Corrupt?

I'm working with two libraries. One is 22 gb and works fine.
The second is 16 gb and when I try to create a vault, Aperture freezes and I have to Force Quit. As long as I don't try to create a vault, everything is fine.
I have re-installed Snow Leopard and Aperture. I have tried exporting projects and creating a new library.
What's going on? Help. Thank you.

I have had the same problem intermittantly and am having it again. Clicking on the update vault or doing it through the vault menu shows a very short (like 1/10 of a second) view of a dialog box then it disappears and I can't update vault.
Any solution for this?
I just bought LR 2 and am very close to switching my entire 30,000 image library and not looking back, because Aperture has been very flaky since the last update and I value stability above all else.

Program keeps freezing when trying to change library or restore ipod.

Having problems since updating like everyone else! Was missing files, etc.
I am trying to change the library location in preferences, but the program locks up when it is opening the window. Also freezing when I try to add a folder to the library.
I tried to restore my ipod on the summary page and same problem, opening window and it freezes. I have now reformatted my ipod and am trying to start fresh. Even reinstalled software, but no luck.

Ipod freezes when connected to computer and cannot restore

When I connect my ipod to my computer itunes does not recognise it for a long time, when it does it says the ipod may be corrupted and to do a restore. So I click restore, and the warning message comes up about erasing the songs. I click yes then an error message comes up saying that the resource is not available. When I click eject, the ipod dissapears from the source list but the do no disconnect thing stays on the ipod screen and dosent even flash.

If you look through the forum there appear to thousand of people who have this problem. Here's what we know so far:-
1. The problem is related to iTunes v7 and the firmware v1.2 on later ipods.
2. it is a bug in the firmware that gives any/all of the following symptoms
- freezes after re-set
- freezes during restore
- cannot sync
- cannot eject
- cannot switch off
- basically CANNOT USE IPOD AT ALL
3. the problem appears to have been known to apple for at least a couple of weeks but they have not found a solution and for the time being they have also chosen to not even acknowledge the problem to re-assure users that their hardware is OK and a software fix is on the way.
4. Contentious posts are being deleted by Apple (I have already had 2 removed so get this one while it's hot)

They will have to acknowledge it and fix it
