Aperture ignores edits to Autofill - sticky copyright date

Last year, I used Aperture 3 to add a 2010 copyright notice to my images. This field autofilled when the import window was opened, which was nice - I didn't have to type in the copyright every time. I've been trying to change the copyright to 2011, of course. No matter what I do, it always autofills with the 2010 copyright. I now have to edit the date for every import, which is especially annoying because Aperture crashes EVERY fifth shot or so when I shoot tethered (I continue to harangue Apple about this-grrrr) so I'm constantly importing.
I tried using Edit Autofill List, and did successfully remove the 2010 copyright text from there, or so I thought, but Aperture still autofills with 2010. I smell a trip to the preference trash heap in my future...is there a way to trash only some preferences? I don't want to lose my precious keyword groups and button presets, which took a long time to set up. Any thoughts?

Solved!
For the benefit of any other confused souls out there, the Import window's field called Copyright Notice is NOT autofilling, which makes complete sense now that I think about it. This field populates from whatever you type into the field called "Copyright" in the metadata presets you set up specifically for import, as Kirby pointed out. My mistake was forgetting that these import presets act differently from the custom metadata views you can set up for your Metadata inspector (panel on the left), which do Autofill. The import presets input "hard" information that you type in to suit your needs. Typing in the correct copyright into the Metadata Presets/Edit/IPTC Status/Copyright field solved my problem. Yea!
So the Edit Autofill List function does allow you to edit the IPTC copyright field among many others, but it will have no effect on import metadata. Editing Autofill entries could be helpful if you have an imported photo with no copyright and you want to type one in. Aperture will autofill for you, but if you have copyrights from more than one year, it might autofill the wrong one. So Aperture lets you remove any autofill data you don't want. Now I understand!
One little mistake Apple could correct is that the copyright field names are inconsistent. The import panel's IPTC field name is "Copyright Notice" - the pesky one that kept showing me last year's copyright. When you edit or make new Import metadata presets, they call this same field "Copyright" - the editing of which solved my problem. Which isn't a big deal, but in trying to correct my problem with Edit Autofill List, the IPTC field is called "Copyright Notice," same name as my problem field. Same inconsistency with metadata custom views, as well. The way I learned it, distinct field name means distinct field. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. Confusing, no?
Thanks to Kirby for solving my problem - I send you a virtual chocolate chip cookie. Make that a dozen if you can solve my tethered crashing problem

    Hello everyone
I've recently messed up my Mac OS X Lion by deleting Aperture, but I need to get my data out of the computer. I've tried to repair it using DU, but it said I needed to backup all my data and reinstall the OS. How do I backup my data to an external drive?
And by the way, I've got an important project in Final Cut Pro X. Is there any way I can back it up (including fxs and positions of the clip) ?
Hope you guys can help me!

You need to back up 2 folders, Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects which by default are located on your Movies Folder. You can always check by clicking on a clip inside Fianl Cut X and selecting Show in Finder in the contextual menu for the selected clip.

I am trying to organize thousands of old images in aperture.  Aperture dates them all in 2008, when I started this project.  When I change the date in aperture some of them hold the modified date and some revert to 2008.  Any ideas?

I just tried a test library, re-imported fresh images from a hard drive, and the date changes still revert.
So neither your external drive nor your Aperture library are to blame.
What do you mean test in a different user acct?  Would it be a good idea to uninstall and re-download aperture 3?
    Appreciate all your help.
I meant the trouble shooting procedure described here:  Isolating an issue by using another user account
To test, if some settings in your user account are faulty or preferences files corrupted, it helps to create a new user account from the "Users&Groups" System preferences. With a brand new user account you can see, if something in your current account is causing this.
Should you see, that Aperture is not even working from a new and clean account, I'd reinstall Aperture, and if need be the Operating system.  Are you using any plug-ins?

  • HT5252 I tried to change my metadata date and got this   Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file "01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg" because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.

I tried to change the metadata date.  It changed the date on my photo, but when I checked the box that said "also change my original file", it gave me this error message.
Unable to change original file.  Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file “01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg” because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.
    Wassup?

What is your Aperture version? The older versions of Aperture 3 had a problem to apply Metadata changes to the original file.
If you are using the current version Aperture 3.4.5, try to repair the permissions on your Aperture library, if you have not already done so:
Launch Aperture with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid PAnel, that will appear.
If that does not help, post back with more information on your original files - are the referenced or managed? Where is your Aperture library located? Since when do you have this problem? And what did you do directly before noticed the problem for the first time?

  • Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the master file "2008-06-22 at 14-41-14.jpg" because it has a format that does not permit date modification.

I can't seem to find a way to update the date/time of a master file. There is a format issue but I can't seem to figure out how to correct it.

Can you post an ipconfig /all from the server and the DC?

  • Export from Aperture to edit in Windows Live Photo Gallery

    Hi.
I'm hoping to work collaboratively with a colleague, in a scenario where I take & edit photos, then pass them over for a possible final touch up before being forwarded to clients.
I use Mac OSX 10.6 and Aperture. He uses Windows Vista and Windows Live Photo Gallery.
The problem we've come up against is this: he is unable to edit the image I've exported from Aperture. I'm exporting as .JPG, and he's able to read them ok - i.e. load it into Windows Live Photo Gallery, but not alter the image.
Does anyone have a similar workflow, exporting from Aperture, then editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery?
    Thanks in advance,
    PB

    Hi Frank.
    Thanks for the response.
Agreed, the pertinent question is why can't my colleague edit the JPG exported by Aperture. It's probably also worth pointing out, the same problem occurs with JPGs exported from iPhoto.
The Windows software usually plays nicely with JPGs by all acounts, just not the ones I send - which I do via eMail or my public space on Mobile Me incidently.
So, another key question is: all settings being equal (color profile, quality, etc.) are the JPGs as produced by iPhoto and Aperture indistinguishable from those produced by other apps on other platforms - i.e. does the use of JPG enforce a common standard?
If that is the case, I suspect ours might be a permissions issue.
According to the Microsoft support page on editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the inability to edit a picture is commonly caused by unsupported file type, or read-only attribute set on the file.
Unfortunately, he and I are not in the same place, and he's not particularly au-fait with this type of problem solving. Hence, before involving him, I'd like to know:
    1. it's possible (i.e. someone else does it), and,
    2. what's involved (at my end and/or his).
    Thanks again,
    PB

  • Aperture 3 edits are not applied when opening in Photoshop CS5.

I have Photoshop CS5 selected as external editor.  I apply some edits in Aperture 3 and then open in Photoshop cs5 to do heavier work, but aperture 3 edits are not applied.  I get a new image from Master.  How do I get the edited image to open in Photoshop CS5?  I would rather do the cropping and simpler edits in Aperture, then if needed open the edited file into CS5.  I can open the file, but it is missing all of my edits.  I have basically a raw master file that I have to start with, but don't have the advantage of the raw file.

I'm right clicking on the photo and selecting -> edit with Edit with Adobe Photoshop CS5.  The photo opens in Adobe, but it doesn't have any of the Aperture edits applied to it.  I would have to start from scratch doing these in photoshop.  I want to be able to do the Raw adjustments in Aperture and then open into Photoshop.
To test I applied a crop in Aperture and then opened that file in Photoshop.  The full size image opens in Photoshop.

  • Aperture incorrectly thinks vaults are up to date

Is there any way to force Aperture to recognize a vault needs updating when it incorrectly believes it is up to date?
I have two vaults.  One of which has not been backed up in almost 3 weeks.  Its on a USB drive kept off site.  I connect it, but Aperture thinks both vaults are up to date.  Could not figure out why.  So I went the nuclear option and deleted the "travelling" vault while keeping the online vault intact.  As soon as I do this Aperture now (correctly) thinks the online vault needs updating.
Strange behavior and makes me wonder if I can really trust the Vault mechanism or not.
    Aperture 3.3.1 on OS-X 10.7.4.

You probably created an invalid signature in the installation package. Well, whatever. You can always run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool at the cost of the apps appearing not installed at all, defeating the purpose of your customized package...

  • Does Aperture import movies? If so, can I use Aperture to edit them?

iPhoto allowed me to organize video as well as photos. Does Aperture have that capability? If so, can I also use Aperture to edit videos? If not, does that editing have to occur in iMovie?

See  Aperture 3: About Video and Audio formats in Aperture but notice the top of the document it says this is an example of some supported formats so if your's isn't listed it still Aperture still might import it.

  • MDG-F 7.0 Multiple Editions with same valid from date

It appears that we are dis-allowed to create more than two editions with same valid from date in MDG-F 7.0.
that tells me that i should be extremely careful of creating an edition with valid from date because once created, I have to group all financial master data change requests effecitve on the same date into this edition. If I am missing one in first place and later on I find one that should be also valid from the same date after Edition is released, there is no way I can catch up by creating another edition with the same valid from date. Correct?
Should I create Edition with replication time option 2 - approval of change request then to avoid?
    Thanks,
    LUO

    Hi Luo.
your finding is unfortunately not correct. It is true that there might be only one open edition for a specific valid from date. Nevertheless, if you release this edition, you can create another edition using the same date.
    Best regards

  • Why is Aperture ignoring effects selected in iPhone?

I just noticed that all the effects like Chrom, Old, Transfer etc that one can select in the iPhone when taking a picture are ignored once the pictures are coming into the Photostream in Aperture. Is there a setting somewhere to keep those effects?
    Thanks.

I just noticed that all the effects like Chrom, Old, Transfer etc that one can select in the iPhone when taking a picture are ignored once the pictures are coming into the Photostream in Aperture. Is there a setting somewhere to keep those effects?
No, the photos are added to the Photo Steam before the effects are applied. The Photo Stream is transferring the original without effects. Which iOS version do you have? With iOS 7 or earlier you could duplicate the photo and try to save the edited version to the Camera Roll, Then the edited version will be added to the stream. With iOS 8 I do not know of any  way to save duplicates to the Camera Roll.   You can mail the edited version or use a shared stream.
See Apple's document:  iPhoto and Aperture don't have edits to photos you import from iOS 8 devices
If you enable iCloud Photo Library Beta, available in iOS 8.1, you can download the edited photos with the filters applied from your iCloud home page, when you open the Photos.app on the page:  https://www.icloud.com/
The photos will download in the full resolution with all filters applied, and you can select a complete "Moment" at once to download. The bad news is, that all tags and GPS coordinates will be gone, and the adjustments are burned in.  Right now, it is impossible to transfer the edited photos  losslessly like it was possible before. In iOS 7 we could undo filters applied in the camera inAperture on the Mac, but this is now impossible. Sharing by email will also remove the GPS coordinates and it will rename the photo with a stupid name, like "full-sizerenderjpg". So it will not be possible to sort the photos by name.
It is really a long wait for the promised Photos.app.

  • Ignoring editing in JTable

    Hello,
I've got a JTable that reflects data in an xml file that is diaplaed as a JTree.
I've allowed editing of certain columns in the JTable, but want to ignore a users edits if they do not accord with the xml schema. I can ignore the changes so that the underlying model is not changed, but I cannot get the table to ignore the changes and display what was there previous to editing. Can anyone help with this.
Also, if the user double clicks in the table cell and then clicks on a different node in the tree, the table does not change to reflect the selected tree node. I've got an appropriate treeEventListener and it works fine when then user has not edited, but when they do the table does not update. Any help with thei would be great as well.
    Thanks
    Simon Hall

In your tablemodel isCellEditable(int row,int column) method set the cells that you don't want the user to edit to return false. Example:public boolean isCellEditable(int Row, int Column)
       if(row == 10 && column == 2)
           return false;
        return true;
}the cell at row 10 and column 2 would not allow editing on the JTable.
    Hope this helps

  • Aperture 3 edit country in places

is there any way to edit country in places? i have a problem with locations near a border. when i add location the center point and circle are clearly in a correct country (from the start), and when i add a place to my places it places it in neighbouring country. as i could not find a way to edit the country i have  deleted and repeated the process several times - and i always get the same result. it s most annoying when a relatively famous landmark is placed in a wrong country!
is there any way to edit the country? or do i have to pt the pin further away from the border in a wrong location just t get the correct country?
    thanks

Can you give us an example of a place that has been assigned to a wrong country? The places I have visited so far, have all been assigned correctly.
You are talking about the countries you see in the drop down lists in the Places map view, right? These counties are assigned from a network based data base, that you cannot manipulate yourself. I suspect there are some wrong entries, so you might send a feedback to Apple, using the feedback form from the Aperture menu -> Provide Feedback.
You can,  however, set the IPTC core tags from the Metadata panel in the Library Inspector. That way, your images at least will have correct location tags when you export them, even if these tags will not be used in Places view.

  • Aperture batch file rename: remove dashes from date?

Just wondering if it is possible to change the format of the date from YYYY-MM-DD to YYYYMMDD when you rename files as they are imported into Aperture 3? I In Aperture 3, the date format used includes dashes. I would like to have the file renamed without the dashes in the date. Is this possible?
This question was previously asked and answered in 2010, however Aperture does not seem to have an option for this it the batch rename edit menu. Thanks

It is not possible in the Aperture naming presets to remove the dashes or in any way change the date format.
The reason is that it is not possible to access the individual components of the date. When you drag an Image Date or Current Date token to form the filename you can't just get the day or the month or the year which is what you would have to be able to do to remove the dashes.
There is no technical reason this couldn't be allowed, Apple has just made the decision that it won't be allowed. You can try sending feedback to Apple requesting this, see Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback.
It is possible to do what you want either before you import the files or with an Applescript eitehr beforre import or within Aperture.
For doing it before import you would basically copy the image files from the  camera card to a folder and then import from there. There are several programs that you could use to do the rename, Name Mangler has been mentioned here a few times. I've never used it so I can;t vouch for it.
As for an in Aperture Applescript solution if you are familair with programming and/or Applescript it isn't to difficult to do but would be easier with some prior knowledge.
