Aperture - Images suddenly off-line !?

Aperture does not show the images and tells me the Macintoch HD is offline, but the pictures are there and can be shown and accessed by other programs. How do I get the HD on-line again in Aperture  version 3.1.3 !?

Images are off line.  There is a symbol at the bottom right of some images that has an arrow and a red line. The error is. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.  All I did was copy the aperture library to an external hard drive and copy it back to a newer mac book pro.  I am trying to work with the image in my new computer.

  • Mail in 10.7.5 suddenly off line on all my devices....HELP

    iMac (24-inch Early 2008) running OS 10.7.5
MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010) running OS 10.7.5
iPad 2 (wifi) running iOS 6.1.3
iPad 4 (wifi) running iOS 6.1.3
Here's the problem. I have internet connection. But suddenly today all my devices are off line in Mail.
Have re-set my dsl modem multiple times.
Ran Connection Doctor and got red lights on all 4 of my mail accounts (iCloud, 2x verizon addresses, and a work email address)
Checked all the settings and as far as I can figure, the are what I have been using.
EXCEPT......when I open the EDIT OUTGOING SERVER area of the Mail preferenced for my iCloud account, it choses my work account server. I re-set and save it. But it's right back to the wrong server when I go back to check. WHAT"S UP with that??????
Anybody have any insights into this problem?
Yes, I can get my email on the individual websites, but that means signing on and off of 4 websites every 15 minutes or so. Not gonna work.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hello Snappi,
Thank you for all the information you provided about what is going on with Mail on all your Apple Devices.  I found an article with steps that I think might help.
I recommend reviewing the article, but I found some steps that sound like they apply specifically to what you are experiencing in the section titled "Mail Connection Doctor shows one or more red dots in the account Status column>Click here if your Incoming and Outgoing email account settings are correct, but the issue persists>Click here if a 'Could not connect to this (server type) server…' message appears":
Click here if a "Could not connect to this (server type) server…" message appears
    Check for third-party firewall software
Third-party firewall software, such as Little Snitch or Symantec Norton Personal Firewall, could be blocking the necessary ports. If such software is installed, make sure the firewall is not blocking these ports:
ports 25, 465, and 587 (for sending email via SMTP)
ports 143 and 993 (if you use IMAP email)
ports 110 and 995 (if you use POP email)
If you're not sure how to enable the correct ports, try disabling the third-party firewall completely, then test for the Mail issue. Note: The Mac OS X v10.6 firewall does not interfere with ports needed to send email.
Check for Internet Service Provider port blockingYour Internet Service Provider may be blocking the SMTP ports needed to send email. You can use Apple's MobileMe service to find out if your Internet Service Provider is blocking the sending email protocol SMTP:
Open Network Utility in the Utilities folder—in Finder, choose Go > Utilities (or press Shift-Command-U).
    Click the "Port Scan" tab.
Enter "smtp.me.com" in the "Enter an Internet or IP address to scan for open ports" field.
Enable "Only test ports between _ and _", and enter 25 for both port fields.
    Click "Scan" to test.
If you do not see "Open TCP Port: 25 smtp", contact your Internet Service Provider or visit their support website for further assistance. If you do see "Open TCP Port: 25 smtp", your Internet Service Provider is not blocking the SMTP ports needed to send email. Go to the "'Trying to log in to this (email server provider name) account failed…' message or any other error message appears" section below if the email issue persists.

  • Will Aperture search through "off-line" media

I've been looking through Apple's tutorials on project management and posting on another forum but still having difficulty getting an answer on this.
Currently, I'm using ACR and iView. Typically I'll store my digital photos into batches (either by project, vacation, or a range of numbers) and burn onto a CD or DVD when they reach a certain size (ie. enough to comfortably fit on a disk). I then use iView to build my catalogs and add keywords.
When I use iView to keyword search, it will search through all the catalogs (I have them stored in one folder). The catalogs don't have to be open. When the search is complete, it will open a new window with thumbnails of the images and the location (ie. "Digital Photos Disk 9").
The impression I get with Aperture is that the images have to be accessible "live". That is, on your HD or an external HD. The website says "Aperture tracks backup status and location of all images" yet says nothing - at least that I can find - about storing your images on CD/DVD.
My question is: Does Aperture work the same way as iView when it comes to cataloging (Project-ing) and keyword search?
    TIA

Yikes. Having gigs of images available "live" just
isn't an option for me. I would never let them sit on
a magnetic HD that's prone to failure anyway. Too
    many eggs in one basket.
    Maybe v2 ...
In the meantime I'll stick with iView (as much as I'm
not pleased they're part of the MS family now).
    Thanks for the info.
I understand your sentiment. But I'd throw a bit of caution your way. Optical media not reliable.
True, hard drives fail--all of them will eventually fail. Several of mine have. Indeed, so have a good number of optical discs, from DVD RAM to DVD-R/RW.
The key is to have your data backed up. I used to keep my images online on a hard drive, then back up to DVD...twice, just in case. But I never really had the time to verify the integrity of the disk. I've tried to read some a week or month later and it failed. This has happened on reputable brands, and off-brands with about equal frequency...and these were disks that verified after writing.
For me it's MUCH faster to have a set of hard drives I back up to and rotate the backups. I don't keep the backups online, so they won't wear out as fast. I keep them in separate locations to avoid natural disasters or theft. I rotate them regularly. Backup to a hard drive is convenient, fast, and relatively worry-free. Aperture Vaults make the process even more effective.
Even if Aperture offered to write to DVD's, I wouldn't...but that's just me. It's slow to write to, difficult/time-consuming to verify, slow to read to from, and I never know if it'll be around when I need it to. Archiving my DVD's was a big pain. Having transferred my older files from a portion of my previous DVD's to the "live" hard drive verified for me how tedious and time consuming it is.
I suppose it would be nice to write an occasional project to DVD from Aperture. But it is pretty easy using the Finder.

  • Referencing images in off-line approjects - possible?

I like to keep my Aperture library as slim and "clean" as possible. I only keep essential shoots and images in the library at any one time. Before the 1.5 update, I was exporting images in the form of approjects in order to keep all versions and image adjustments intact. I could reimport them if I needed to access any images.
Now that 1.5 is out with referencing possibilities, I was hoping to be able to reference the images in my exported approjects. I haven't been able to find a way to do this. Has anyone else?
Anther question on the same topic. Now that Aperture allows the export of xmp files with mastes and versions, is this a better solution than exporting approject? or would it be better to export the approject and be able to reference it?
    Any thoughts?
    Jeff

If you were always exporting projects before, a better way to go now might be to relocate the masters for a project in a simialrily named directory and locate it wherever you put approjects before... that way you keep the project in your library for reference, but also get to keep the larger master images offline.
I would make sure you had exactly the settings you want for previews if you are going to do this as they too can be kind of large unless you keep the size down a bit. Just make sure you have previews at a quality level and size you wil be comfortable storing for a lot of images.
I am also exploring an approach where I relocate all lower rated masters out of the library and put them offline, while leaving the very highest rated image masters in place for quick access. That might be a good stratey to keep you from dipping into the offline bucket too much.

  • Printing or Editing Off-Line Images

    Hi,
I am looking for the best way for editing or printing images that have been previously moved/archived to CDs/DVDs when using PSE 3/4 Organizer. As I understand it once you bring back an image to edit it, the archived version is brought back online., and the one on the CD is basically removed from the catalog. Is this correct?
How does all this work if you are dealing with Version Sets, all of which have been previously archived to CDs?
What if you only want to bring an archived image to print it? In this case, is the high resolution image just temporarily loaded to make the print? I vaguely remember that the answer to this is yes, but I am not positive.
And what if you wanted to make a slide show but did not want to start with the resolution of your proxies?
I do know that I can go and find the answers to each one of these questions myself, but I am hoping to save a little time and possibly screwing up somewhere by asking the question before trying things out. I am also interested on how others are doing the above.
    TIA
    Don S.

    Barb,
Thanks so much for the simple solution. I have tried it and it seems to do just what I want. Let me list the steps to make sure I did what you said.
    1. From the Organize mode, I select the off-line photo
    2. Click on Go to Standard Edit. I get the message re. picture is no considered on-line.
    3. After the image is oopened in the Editor, I go back to the Organizer, click on the Undo arrow. The gold CD icon on the picture, which was not there now comes back, but the red strip with the lock is still over the photo.
    4. I go back to the Editer, make my changes and then use Save As with a new name.
    5. I close the photo in the Editor, and automatically am taken back to the Organizer, where there is no red stripe, but now two photos in the Photo Bin, the one off-line with the CD icon in the top left corner, and the edited version right next to it that is on-line.
To be honest, I only did Steps 1-3. I am presuming that Steps 4-5 would be as stated. Is this how the whole process works?
PS I did confirm that when you bring an off-line image back in to print it, it is only brought back temporarily and is still considered an off-line image after being printed.
Again, thanks for your initial answer Barb. I now need to see how Version Sets affect the above, if at all.
    Don S.

  • Images missing or off-line

when i want to go to edit in cs3 or to develop module, i get the  error message that images are missing or off-line, despite the fact that the images are still on my desktop as well as backed up on the external hard drive(which is turned on). help. also, is there any way to reconvert dng images back to raw or tiffs?

If the image in grid view has a ? icon in the upper right then LR does not know where the source file is. Click on that icon and tell it where to fine the file. If all your images where moved outside LR then LR would lose track. You could also try to synchronize the folder if they are all in the same relative structure.
Unless you stored the original RAW file in the DNG there is no way to get back to the original RAW. However, with very few exceptions all of the original RAW information is in the DNG file so there's no need to convert back.

  • Several messages were in the Drafts folder when my isp went off line suddenly and when it came back hours later the draft messages were gone. How do I find them

I had 8 or 10 messages in the drafts folder. I had Thunderbird open when my isp had equipment problems and suddenly went off line on February 19, 2015. When it came back online the next morning all those drafts were gone. Is there some way I can retrieve them? If so, please send directions on how to do it. Thank you for any help you can give me.

The top folder was Local Folders with Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts, Trash and Archives under it. I had several messages in Archives and they went away when the Drafts messages went. Actually the only folder that wasn't emptied was the inbox. Those messages re-downloaded from the web mail.
What I understand from what you've written is that unless something was done when the mail account was set up, all my mail was on att/yahoo mail and they're the ones that lost my drafts.
If I'm wrong about it being an IMAP account and it was really POP, would that make a difference?

It sounds like the router's DHCP may be changing the IP address too frequently for the printer software to keep up with it.
I recommend setting a static IP address as it resolves many network issues with printers in general.

  • Aperture images with iLife

I know you can access Aperture images in iLife, but it doesn't let you access the versions that are so carefully edited. Does anyone know if this is possible without exporting versions as JPEGs and then reimporting? Along the same lines, sometimes I just want the images I rate 5 stars to show up in iLife, but it always displays all the images in the project. Am I missing something?

but it doesn't let you access the versions that are so carefully edited.
Yes it does. You just need to make sure you've created previews of the edited versions. I've turned off automatic preview generation and just use a hotkey for the Generate Previews option.
sometimes I just want the images I rate 5 stars to show up in iLife, but it always displays all the images in the project. Am I missing something?
you can't filter out images from the Media Browser (iLife) but you can create a smart album in Aperture that only shows five star images, then use that to browse only those images in iLife apps.
    hope this helps!

  • LR Off-line DVD Storage - Any Thoughts on How to do

After time passes, I like to move raw files from my hard drive to a DVD. I want to continue to keep these raw files that have been moved to the DVD as part of my LR catalog, including their thumbnail image. This way I can easily locate raw files stored off-line on a DVD. So far my solution is to take all of the files that I will be moving to a DVD, add them to a child-collection called for example DVD-32 (parent collection is called DVDs-RAW Files). I also, select all of the files and add the keyword, in this example 32. Then I copy these files to the DVD-32, delete them from the hard drive. The folder(s) shows as red in the LR library folders. Each files thumbnail is still retained. When I select a file, I know what DVD it is stored on by looking at the keyword. The reason I created the collection of files on a DVD is to provide an easy way to know what files are on a particular DVD. This is a more cumbersome process than what I did using IMatch, which was designed to catalog off-line files. I wonder if there is a simpler way to do this in LR.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Also there are some pretty worrying reports about DVD and CD reliability unless you use the Gold Archive disks [that I use, but I no longer archive to DVD or CD].
I now use a grandfather, father, son backup/archive method with grandfather, father in my safe deposit box. When I feel enough changes have been made, I put son in SD box and bring out GF, reformat, check for errors, and do a backup to set the new baseline.
I check my HDs for errors frequently.
I only lost data once, that was when I was replicating deletes and my main HD got corrupted and I transferred those deletes to my backup. I like being able to "look" at my backup/archive files.
People may say that I should still archive to optical media, but to me it is no more safe than my method. I would have to constantly re-read my optical disks to make sure they were not failing.
Also, I expect to pass the 20,000 file mark this year and that is about 25 DVDs [expect 95 GB or so] and making sure they are good looks daunting. Maybe when/if the blue ray technology arrives with appropriate archive/validation s/w I will change my mind.
Meanwhile, I am looking at ads for 500 GB HDs :-)

  • How to view browser history off-line, full size

hello - i am able to search for and locate web pages i visited many months ago - however i don't know how to view them as they were then.  for instance, one was a blog with links i tried to revisit, so i found it, but the blog no longer exists.  i figure that since the text and image were saved (obviously i was able to search for the text and view a thumbnail) they are probably available somehow "offline" - how can i view pages visted off-line rather than revisiting them?  thanks!

Assuming you are using Safari as your browser, in it's general preferences, there's a "Remove history items" menu popup which gives you choices of when to delete history.  Included in that list is "manually" if you so choose.  Other browsers have similar options (e.g., firefox).
As for what's kept, it's url's, not whole web pages.  So if a url is old enough there is a probability that the page it is pointing to changed or no longer exists.
