Aperture import process like a kettle boiling

Everybody knows that age old platitude that a watched kettle never boils. Similarly I have the impression that an unwatched import process never properly finishes or sometimes even starts!
I can leave the import process for about two minutes, got back to see how things are progressing (what with the fan blowing a gale) and its only done two pictures, then it magically starts to import them… oh the boss is about, better look busy. This happens every time!

Kevin Weatherly: I do have everything maxed out yes, sure I have a few other programs open too, but I notice it just now. When I got AP3 it was awful to import, the as point releases came it got a lot better. I notice this slow down with nothing open also, this is common sense and so that's why I'm not sure why its happening.
The issue though is that if I leave AP for a long time and nothing progresses, it matters not how long this period is, when I come to it and click on the processing animation to reveal the info pane AP then starts to get to work. It happens all too often and really behaves like its not doing any work unless the boss is looking.
SierraDragon: Look at the words I've written, if you don't and you post like that again you'll get a non stop argument on your hands. That I won't back down from. Don't ever post on my thread with comments like that again.

  • Aperture import is not working

I just installed Lr 5.0 and upgraded to 5.7. I'm trying to import my Aperture library, but Lr does not recognize any photos that I have on my laptop. Using a MacBook Pro. I have no idea what to do. I'm so new to this, I don't even know what questions to ask. I just need help!

When you say it "doesn't recognize any photos", what do you mean?
I'll try to guess.  You probably cannot import because you're not using the Aperture plugin.  It could be you only have PNG files, or some other compatible format, but that's unlikely.
If you're importing your Aperture Library, you'll need to go to "File" "Plugins", "Import from Aperture", or something to that effect.  You find your Aperture library, and it begins the import process.
Depending on what you're trying to do, this could be a simple process, or one that requires pre-work and post-work on your part.  This guide is helpful:
    http://www.lightroomqueen.com/ready-move-aperture-iphoto/
Lightroom does not make file organization easy, and it does not mask file organization like Aperture.  You may want to look for other threads I've posted on how to relocate your masters in Aperture before importing to Lightroom.
Finally, most of the metadata will make it across.  Your masters should make it across.  Aperture image adjustments will not.  Lightroom supposedly copies "Aperture Previews", which is the image created by your adjustments.  But I've found it only copies about 1/3 of them.  The import process is one way, so you want to make sure you get it right the last time.
Highly recommend exporting a test Aperture library or using a small one to test with first.  I've run 15 tests so far and am still not happy with the results, given a few remaining bugs.  YMMV.

  • Will Aperture Import Metadata from Windows?

I have been using Windws Live Photo Gallery to edit and organize a library of about 100k JPGs.  I have added faces, GPS, Keywords, ratings, and captions to the pitcures.  All of this information is stored in the metadata of each picture.
I have used iPhoto in the past and would like to move back to my Mac for editing/organizing my library.  If my memory is correct, iPhoto only really imprts the keywords and GPS data, not the ratings or captions.
Does Aperture import more of the metadata?
Also, does Aperture support expoting the metadata (Keywords, Ratings, GPS) to the file?  I seem to recall iphoto allows you to export the keywords and GPS, but not the ratings.
I was thinking that if iPhoto nor Aperture does not import/export ratings, I could do a work around by selecting my photos by rating and then just add keywords based on those ratings. (one-star, two-star, etc).  I could then do a reverse process in Aperture/iPhoto... Select the keywords and then give the photos the ratings.
    Am I making any sense?
    Mike
BTW, I am using an older 27" iMac i7 with 8GB... Need to update my profile.

Hi Mike.  I don't know the answer to your larger question (though you might try with a few images and see what you get).  I do know that what you propose here:
    Mike Delaney wrote:

works, and works well.  I have done this a few times (for ratings as well as for color labels and for other groupings).  In practice, it goes quickly.  Every "tag" of information that you can translate to a keyword will be preserved, and within the limits of the "moving to" software can be re-assigned.
(Don't get fancy with a keyword outline, though: Aperture flattens any keyword outline on import and leaves you with a simple single-level list of keywords.  You can't group your keywords, but with clever naming: e.g. "StarOne", "StarTwo", "StarThree", you can at least have these show next to each other in an alpha-sorted list.  Similarly, "ColorRed", "ColorBlue", etc.  Although I've not seen any problems recently, I still avoid non alpha-numeric characters, including {space}.)

  • Import Process Server has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hello,
Loaded an AVI-from the desktop, as that is where my project file and scratch disk go, about 7.5 GB's, and when I scroll through it or try to render, I get this little message:Import Process Server has encountered a problem and needs to close
    Windows XP Pro/ 64 Edition
    Dell Precision T7500
    Intell(R)Xeon(R) CPU

    Thanks so much in advance,
    Tim S.

    Jim,
Thanks for all your help.  Sure enough, an MOV file works just fine and I may have tracked down the problem: the video, I'm sure caused from the source tape, lags towards the end-it seemed like every time I scrolled towards the end of the AVI it would crash.  Still seems mighty peculiar that it would crash the system each time.
    Thanks,

How do I run the import process over again as half of the content is imported and my import process failed in the middle when running the process over again what settings do I need to provide to make sure no duplicates get created etc.
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
There are a couple of ways to get around the issues that you are facing such that import process is not interrupted because of these. They are as follows :
    1. Use ArchiveReplicationException component . This will keep the import process running and make a log of the failed process which can be used for assessing / gauging the success of the import and what all needs to be redone.
I would suggest this as the option for your case.
    2. Put the config variable for arciver exception to 9999 so that the archive process stops only after hitting the limit of 9999 errors.
I would suggest to go for step 1 as that would be a much more foolproof and methodical way of knowing what all items have failed during import.
    Thanks

  • Duties in Import Process

    Dear Guru's,
I had following doubts abt import duties so please help me.
    1) How we take care of CVD and other duties in case of import process, how we can define the GL account for the duties in case of import
    2) How we can take care of additional CVD
    2) at our place for same material sometimes CVD get inventorised sometimes modvatable though it is always modvatable....how can we control this.
we had defined in Excise defaults all the CVD conditions for TAXINN procedure still above problem is there due to which moving average price is shooting up very rapidly.
    regards,
    Umesh

    Hi Umesh
<b>Is inventorising the value depend on maintaining the condition in Excise defauls or some other place also we have to define?</b>
To inventorise a condition if its domestic purchase then depends upon the condition type for this you check the accrual key against that condition type then in t code OBCN.There basically accrual key are defined if you double click on that if non dedcutible check box is selected only then value against that condition type is inventorised.
In Import procedure whatever you assign condition type against excise defaults only against that you can get credit availed if its not then that will go to inventory.
    <b>Accrual Key /Account Key</b>
Account key is used only in case of purchase account management is active that is valid only in countries like Spain Balgium etc in india also used at some places. Main thing accrual key against this key whatever you assign GL code in OBYC amount will go in this GL.
    <b>Additional Duty</b>
Yup its modvatable  To make this modvatable you need to maintain condition type in Excise Default.
I hope this would be a great help for you

  • Export/Import Process in the UI for Variations Content Translation is Generating CMP Files with No XML

We have a SharePoint 2010 Publishing Website that uses variations to deliver contain to multiple languages. We are using a third-party translation company to translate publishing pages. The pages are
exported using the  export/import using the UI process described here: "http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_gossner/archive/2011/12/02/sharepoint-variations-the-complete-guide-part-16-translation-support.aspx".
Certain sub-sites are extremely content-intensive. They may contain many items in the Pages library as well as lists and other sub-sites.
For some sub-sites (not all), the exported CMP file contains no XML files. There should be a Manifest.XML, Requirements.XML, ExportSettings.XML, etc., but there are none. After renaming the CMP file
to CAB and extracting it, the only files it contains are DAT files.
The only difference I can see between the sub-sites that generate CMP files with no XML files is size. For example, there is one site that is 114 MB that produces a CMP file with no XML files. Small
sites do not have this problem. If size is the problem, then I would think the process would generate an error instead of creating a single CMP file that contains only DAT files. However, I do not know exactly what the Export/Import Process in the UI is doing.
    This leads to two questions:
    1.
Does anyone know why some CMP files, when renamed to *.CAB and extracted, would not contain the necessary XML files?
    2. Second, if exporting using the UI will not work, can I use PowerShell? I have tried the Export-SPWeb, but the Manifest.XML does not contain translatable
content. I have not found any parameters that I can use with Export-SPWeb to cause the exported CMP to be in the same format as the one produced by the Export/Import process in the UI.
As a next step, we could try developing custom code using the Publishing Service, but before doing this, I would like to understand why the Export/Import process in the UI generates a CMP that
    contains no XML files.
If no one can answer this question, I would appreciate just some general help on understanding exactly what is happening with the Export/Import Process -- that is, the one that runs when you select
the export or import option in the Site Manager drop down. Understanding what it is actually doing will help us troubleshoot why there are no XML files in certain export CMPs and assist with determining an alternate approach.
    Thanks in advance

I wanted to bump this post to see about getting some more responses to your problem. I'm running into the same problem as well. We're running a SharePoint 2010 site and are looking at adding variations now. The two subsites with the most content take a
while to generate the .cmp file (one to two minutes of the browser loading bar spinning waiting on the file). Both files are generated with a lot of .dat files but no .xml files. I was thinking like you that it must be a size issue. Not sure though. Did you
ever happen to find a solution to this problem?

  • Import process takes a lot of time to connect to schemas in the RPD

    Hi Gurus,
I am facing this problem where when I start to import tables from my database into the rpd, it takes hours to load/display the schemas. Once I select tables, the import process takes another hour.
Does this look like a setting issue on OBIEE end or database connectivity? I can connect to the database through SQL developer within seconds with the same credentials. Its eating a lot into my dev time. Please suggest at the earliest. Much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dan

tried it. It keeps saying connection failed. My problem is my connection is fine. I can connect without the localhost:port/sid. The next step of choosing Tables,views.. that screen too loads within a second. Once I hit next on that screen, it takes a lot of time for my schema to show up.
My setup here is I hv downloaded the admin tool only, created a dsn connection and trying to import tables in online mode. All connections work fine but they take a lot of time.
I just need to validate if its a database connecticity issue or obiee connectivity.

  • Can a script be written to improve the import process?

    Hello everyone -
One of our managers would like to create topics by importing text from Word.  That is simple enough, but she would like to add a 'mapping' function to the import process that would create the topics in the appropriate folder.
For example, the RH table of contents is structured by category (4), state(50) and line of business(15).  The Word file is structured as a table, and in that table are columns for category, state and line of business, along with additional text (such as description, etc).
During the import process, she would like to map the Word file by category, state and line of business.  Using that mapping, import each line of the table and create a topic in the appropriate category, state and line of business.
Is it possible to write a script to accomplish this task?  Or, is this just too complicated an operation?

Photoshop Scripting-wise this seems fairly "easy".
But I would recommend creating a template file (that already combines background image, png overlay and the Type Layers).
Maybe data driven graphics would also be an option …

  • How to improve the performance of policy import process

    Hello OES 10g Experts,
I have an application specific policy XML of OES 10g. While importing it to OES using policyIX.sh command, the process is taking around 3.5 hrs in DEV servers. The policy XML size is around 2 MB. However there are other applications which are being imported in less than 30 mins.
Perhaps it is due to the size of the XML, the policy import process is taking huge time which may not be viable in production systems. But I would like to know if there is a way to improve the performance of import process. The command syntax I am using is
    ./policyIX.sh -import -disableTransaction config.xml policy.xml
I have tried removing the parameter -disableTransaction but there is no performance improvement.
    Appreciate any inputs.
    Thanks

  • Aperture Import window

With the Aperture import window open and a memory card in a reader, I have at top left two option. One is the select the computer itself as the source and the other is the memory card. If I select the computer, at the bottom of the window I get pane listing the various harddrives and all there subdirectories, but when I choose the memory card, this pane is no longer vailable. Is it possible to have this pane display so that I can see the folders on the meory card?
I ask this because when a photographer is covering multiple rings at an event, it is faster to seperate the images inot their respective rings by choosing which folder to put them in than it is to change the file name which os what we currently. I provide staff with Nikon cameras at some events and if they are not familiar with Nikon, they struggle with the filename changing in a hurry, but selecting pre-made folders is easy.

Is it possible to have this pane display so that I can see the folders on the meory card?
No, you cannot show the memory card in the file chooser - I tried several things, like linking it to the Desktop, but aperture hides it.
You could open the memery card however in the Finder; it will show on Desktop as an external disk, and then import by dragging from the Finder. Bt this way you will not be able to use Import presets directly while importing.
Your only option would be to copy your folders on the card to backup folders on your hard drive and then import from there. This folder you will see in Aperture in the file chooser window at the bottom.

  • Aperture Import Settings Panels crashes.

The Aperture Import Settings panel crashes and it show you only info from the moment
you choose a location on a server called "Pictures" (same Name as the "Pictures" folder in the user folder in my case). The choose options stays on "choose" and if you click "Import Selected" you loose from now on all the option on the import on the next start of the app and even after reboot you will never have any options on the import panel. If i choose any other folder not named "Pictures" all works fine.
It seemed to me like a bug.

  • CIN Import process problem

    Hello,
We have CIN import process in which client does not wants to use CVD conditions ( JCV1, JECV, J1CV).
We wants to use only JADC and JCDB conditions.
    Process :
    1. Create PO with conditions JADC and JCDB and some more Z conditions.
    2. Bill of entry for customs.
    3. Capture excise invoice wrf PO.
    4.GR
    5.POst excise invoice.
    Problem :
When I capture excise invoice with ref to PO , system gives POP UP for bill of entry ref no like in standard import process, if I give BOE and year ,OK FLAG in J1IEX does not set automatically (I can't set manually because this is non editable), if I don't give BOE no system sets OK FLAG.
Please note if I create PO with all above mentioned condition and include  CVD conditions process works fine.
    Please guide.

    Hi Manjit Chandel,
Check configuration in the following path:
SPRO ---> IMG ---> Logistic General --> Tax on goods Movement ---> India --> Basic Settings --> Determination of Excise duty -->Maintain excise default
Check under CVD condition type whether you have maintained JCV1 or not, If you maintain JCV1 System consider this condition type  for CVD on imports. Please sea the following screen shot.
    Check it and get back.

  • Import Process Server

    Hello,
I'm capturing Beta Cam tapes via Black Magic, it creates an AVI file, to a GLYPH hard drive; I'm working off the Glyph.  After a minute of plyaback Adobe Premiere CS4 crashes and explains that there is an Import Process Server crash.  This only happens with the AVI's imported via the deck; I have a lot of SxS shot footage, BPAV files, and they work just fine.
    Many Thanks,
    Tim S.

    Bill,
The Glyph is connected via USB 2.0, however it's connected to my PC, to act as a partition, and not connected to my BetaCam deck.  (Basically I was capturing via Black Magic and saving the AVI to the Glyph; it didn't seem to like that for whatever reason).
    Thanks,

  • Import process authentication & SSO

We have created an import process that picks up some data and loads into CRMOD via web services on a timed 24 hour basis.
Am I correct in the assumption that this process will need to use a hard coded user name and password of an active CRMOD user in order to establish a session...
This approach does not seem very nice as if the user changes their password authentication would fail...
Also we have a mash-up screen that is launched and uses outbound SSO for establishing the session. The mash-up screen remains open for the duration of the users day. Hence we need to be able to re-establish the users session when it has timed out. I take it that this cannot be done using SSO (as the token expires after 5 minutes) & again we have to hard code a user & password?
I suppose the workaround is to poll web services every 4 minutes to keep the session alive, but that is just not good practice....
Any inputs and comments are greatly appreciated...

    Hi,
There is a service API available which allows you to reset the user's password. Typically we use a fixed login for WS operation and reset the password periodically using the service API so that the password doesn't expire
On you second issue, the way to handle is same like polling to keep the session active. But you can make it a bit advanced in sense find out the last session used time and ensure it is refreshed within 10 minutes from last usage. Only SSO has 5 minutes validity but session created has 10 minutes validity
    Hope it helps
