Aperture in the Apple Store?

I went to Apple Store in the Mall Of America (Minnesota) today to play with Aperture on the 24" iMac and the MacPro, but found that they did not have it installed on any machines (the staff confirmed this).
Is it in any other stores right now?

The day the demo Mac Pro was first displayed in the store, I briefly played with Aperture on it, but the demo Mac Pro machines only sported 1 GB RAM, so paging was immediate, and couldn't show me any indication of better Aperture performance. I assumed they would get around to upgrading to at least 4GB RAM, as the previous G5 Quad display had, so I planned to check back.
A week or so later, I saw Aperture was now gone off the Mac Pro display models. I checked on the Mac Book Pros, and Aperture was still on there, so I initially guessed that it may have been removed due to the poor performance of the app with only 1 GB RAM on the Mac Pro, since all the Mac Pro display machines were still at 1 GB.
Still curious, I asked specifically, and was told the following:
Aperture was no longer on the disk load image that the stores are given to load onto the Mac Pro machines when it was discovered that the current version of Aperture did not operate correctly when installed using their retail stores' normal whole disk image method. He did not know the specifics of the Aperture problem, just that this removal had been done.
He said Aperture works on Mac Pro when installed as a user normally would, from DVD, serial#, etc. (obviously)
This was now a few weeks ago, so if others are reporting Aperture disappearing from retail store display machines other than the Mac Pro, I might assume Apple may have found other machines have problems with this Aperture install method as well.

  • Is the Apple Store Version of Aperture 3stripped down?

Is the $80.00 version of Aperture 3 in Apple Store the same as the $200.00 version in the retail stores?
If the Apple Store version is stripped down, what are the differences?

From all reports, it is the same version.
The only difference seems to be the Mac App store version requires purchasing, installation and re-installation via the Mac App store and an Apple ID.
The retail boxed version can be installed on OS X 10.5.8 or newer OS X version and does not require interaction with the Mac App store or require an Apple ID.
The EULA seems to be more generous via the Mac App store for a home user where it can be installed on up to 5 machines in the owner's home. The retail boxed version can only be installed on 2 machines.
I don't know about the limitation of running concurrently on the Mac App store version, but the retail boxed version is restricted to being loaded in memory on one machine at a time.

The hard drive on my MacBookPro recently crashed.  The Apple store replaced it.  Since then I can't open iphoto.  It asks to rebuild library; when I click yes, I get: "Aperture cannot access this library; reset permissions." I don't own Aperture!  Any thoughts on how I can rebuild the iphoto library?  Currently I can't even get into it.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

hello everyone!  i have a new macbook pro and i want to download aperture.  my app store says it is already installed (on my old macbook pro).  how do i install aperture from the app store in this instance please?

Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.

I got Compressor from the Apple Store: how to reinstall?

    Thanks Russ.
I've signed in and clicked on my account but I don't see any history of my orders (there should be several - FCPX, Lion, Aperture...)

  • In IPhoto, after I submit my book to the Apple store, it shows it uploading, but does not finish the process.

after I submit my book to the Apple store in I photo, it shows that it assembles and uploads, but does not finish the process.  I cannot use the cancel button and have to force quit IPhoto to get out of the process.

Assuming you're referring to iPhoto on your Mac here are some potential fixes you can try:
    1 -
Go to the System/Sharing preference pane and make sure Remote Apple Events is checked. If it is, uncheck it and then recheck and try ordering again.
    2 -
    Quit iPhoto.
From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Utilities to access your Utilities folder (or press Shift-Command-U).
In your Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.
Find the "NetServices" entry in your Keychain Access window.
Select the "NetServices" entry and press the delete key.
Reopen iPhoto and attempt to place your order again.
You should be prompted to enter your account information if you deleted the Keychain entry successfully.
After entering your account information, you should be able to complete your order.
    3 -
Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try ordering from there.
Note:  Create a proof pdf file of the book as described in this Apple document, iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture, before ordering the book and keep the pdf file to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.

  • If I wanted to replace my iPhone 5 at the Apple Store, do I need to bring everything that came with the box, or just the iPhone?

My new iPhone 5 is currently having problems with the wifi. I can't connect to my home network unless I am right next to the router. Even then there are only one or two bars. When I am in a public place like Starbucks, I can't find any wifi networks. I plan on bringing it to the Apple Store and getting it replaced. Can I just get the iPhone replaced, or do I need to replace everything (box, manuals, headphones, etc)?

all you need to bring is the phone that is all they need to replace then that is all you need

  • I have a four month old Iphone 4, from the Apple store, And seems like every day something stops working on it. Today I can't hear the person thats calling, but they hear me fine. Anyone know how to fix this?

That is just the most recent problem. Other problems are the screen freezes all the time, and it won't scroll or do anything. Another is my keyboard lags as I type. another problem, is with some of my apps are constantly crashing. And It is not the apps itself per se, because my friends can be using the same app, and they are fine. Another would be emails not pushing. I will have some emails that show up, some will say I have new emails, but open to check and nothing there. Then other times i will have like 17 emails all show up at once, with some being sent days before. Another problem is my Wifi turns itself off all the time. Even when I am sitting less than 10 feet away from the router. And When I add new contacts, they are visible for a few days, then all the sudden they are nowhere to be found. Sometimes it will at least save the number in my contacts, and no name or other info. And other times it doesn't save anything. These are just a few of the many problems.
Because I got this phone shortly after the new IOS7 update, I thought since I had read about problems others were having after updating, may have been the reason I was having some initial problems. But they have only grown to more problems, and not getting better.
Has anyone else had these same problems? Do I just have a bad phone? If you have had any of these problems, were you able to get a fix and how? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new Ipome and Ipad.  and Ipad. Now I'm told I need to upgrade my operating system. The apple store gave me conflicting instructions. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a macbook 4.1 with osx10.6.8 and just added memory (2gig) so I could sync my new IPhone and Ipad. Now I'm told at the apple store that I need to upgrade my operationg system. They said they couldn't help and gave me conflicting advice about what to do. Any ideas? Thanks you!

There are three models of MacBook that comprise the 'macbook 4.1' category, and each of them a little different; however other than 'macbook 4.1' the other thing they have in common is they all are considered Early 2008. Two are white, one black, polycarbonate case, Core2Duo 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz white, 2.4GHz black.
So if you can determine which one, if any of these, is the model build year and spec you have, that would be handy. Did you tell whoever you spoke to the serial number of your computer, so they'd know by looking up the specs to see what the supported maximum RAM upgrade capacity was, and other minimum requirements to make any upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 at all?
If you have the serial number you can do a lookup to 'indentify by serial number' online, and use that information to determine if the computer needs even more RAM to take it past the minimum for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then get it ready to upgrade (via paid download from App Store, Snow Leopard gets you that far) and see what the next supported OS X full upgrade would be for the hardware limitations on that old MacBook.
If your MacBook IS a 4.1 build, the highest OS X it could run if it has the 2.4GHz cpu, is Lion 10.7.5. That would be an upgrade from the App store, available to OS X 10.6.8+ computers that access it online. And I kind of doubt how supported a newest iphone etc may be in lion.
everymac.com has a fair amount of information across many years of Apple computing hardware...
Here's the three MacBooks that share the 4.1 designation; first shipped with as much as 1GB RAM upgrade and the other two only a 2GB RAM*, (one white/one black color) according to this information...
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.1 13" (White-08) 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8100)
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (White-08) 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8300)
    • MacBook "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 13" (Black-08) 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (T8300)
    ...as seen here: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/index-macbook.html
*But according to MacTracker (free: download database) http://mactracker.ca
these MacBooks can use more RAM in aftermarket specs as much as:
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

The Apple? store or whoever you talked, to may have been as accurate as they could be without further research. Could be you may have a newer or older MacBook, which would change whatever later OS X it could run past 10.6.8. And to go past Snow Leopard, you need to download the last bits for 10.6.x to be able to go and get any later upgrade. The ones that may let a newest iphone or ipad work with it, are past SL10.6.8
Anyway, as you further verify the model build year and configuration specifications, report back.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I'm trying to change my phone case, i have the bumper that screws in if i goto the apple store will they unscrew the case for me?

I have the bumper case that screws in so it doesn't fall apart, but i want to take it off. Will the apple store unscrew the case for me? or would i have to go to At&T to have them screw it off?

    Hey,
I can confirm what xtremecaron has said, Apple will defo not remove the bumper for you. Best bet is to try different screwdrivers.

  • I bought a ipad mini online from the apple store. His battery doesn't last more than 6h. I return it back to them they send me a new one, but the problem is same. Battery doesn't last more than 5-6h!

I have purchased a iPad mini online from the Apple store. Since day one I had 2 issues with it. First is that the battery life doesn't last more than 5-6h active usage, and the second one is with the wi-fi. It works properly but after I leave it for a while in sleep mode and try to reuse it, it doesn't want to open a web page or app store or mail (anything connected with the internet search) but it shows that is properly connected with my home network. So I have to turn off the wi-fi connection and turn it on again so it start to work properly. After couple off days this becomed very annoying so I contacted the support via phone and they gave me instructions for return it and that I'll receive a new one without aditional fee. I get the second device in the predicted time but again I have the same issues with the wi-fi and battery life. I will be pleased if someone from the Apple expert team explaine to me what should I do, because I dont find it for normal what is happening. On the Apple official site under the specifications for iPad mini it says that the battery lasts for at least 10h and the wi-fi problem isn't mentioned anywhere. Thanks in advance.

This is a user to user forum. No one here is an employee or representative of Apple.
If you want someone from Apple to explain what you should do make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one near you and take your iPad there and talk to Apple. If no Apple store is close enough then call Apple to find out what your alternatives are. There is a Contact Info link at the bottom of every page in this forum.

  • After having the Apple Store erase my HD, now I need authentication and password to move things from a downloads folder to another folder in Finder. WHY? And how can I change this?

I'm trying to move things from the downloads folder into a folder that is over there on the left in the sidebar. Every time I try to move something, I get this message and then I have to give my password. I didn't have to do that previously and I sure don't want to do it now, either. I've checked and checked and cannot find where I would go to change this setting. Does anyone know where I should look?
The Apple Store erased my HD on Friday and I had to restore from Time Machine. my OS is Mavericks and I'm on a MacBook Pro.

That has been like that since Firefox 3.0 was released in June 2008 - 7 major version releases thus far with it like that and the developers haven't changed it - so I wouldn't count on it.
When I want to save a duplicate bookmark, I just "grab" the website image in the Location Bar and drag it into the Bookmarks Sidebar, into the folder where I want it placed. On Windows and Linux, { Ctrl + B } opens the sidebar and then just drag.
