Aperture incorrectly duplicating exif data - how can I stop this?

The situation...
a) I have 2 cameras (Canon 5D, and a Canon 5D MII)
b) I imported photos from 2 Compact Flash cards (1 from each camera) where the file names (e.g. _MG_9670.CR2) clashed. (i.e. both cards used the same file numbering range)
c) Aperture imported the images correctly, however the EXIF data on both images match identically apart from image resolution. Aperture believes these photos were taken at the exact same date/time and with the same camera which of course is incorrect.
d) If I export the original files from aperture and use the finder 'Get Info' option I can see that the RAW files contain correct EXIF data, so the issue must purely be an aperture bug.
Question - is this a known bug and is there any way to work around this?
Unfortunately I have spotted this on some wedding photos I shot for a client so I have had to switch to Lightroom for some confidence in not loosing important photos. Hopefully if someone can provide a workaround before I get stuck into my editing I can switch back to Aperture that I am more familiar with.
Thanks
Adrian

Interesting problem. The duplicate filenames could be causing Aperture to get confused but I've never seen this myself. Do you have Do not import duplicates set in the Import pane? If it is not set and you set it does Aperture see the  files on the second card as dups?
As a test, when you import from one of the cards (either one) rename the originals. Does the EXIF  problem still happen? If not then you will need to rename one of the cameras files either on import or in the camera. I believe Canon allows you to set a filename no?
Also make sure to file a bug report with Aperture, Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback, look for the bug report entry.
If renaming the files does not fix the problem post back.

When I sync recently bought albums to my iPhone I get duplicated tracks.  How can I resolve this.  The duplicated tracks do not appear in my itunes library, just on my iPhone.

It seems to happen with songs that were purchased before synchronizing the new iPhone
I will tell you how I fixed it.
Note: I have iTunes in spanish so I will try to translate and figure out the commands that appear on ITunes in english. I will put my translations into brackets. English is not my native language. I will do my best.
    The workaround is:
1.- Dragg no working songs from iTunes to a folder on the hard disk. (Only for backup purposes)
2.- Deleted those songs from iTunes library.
3.- On the left panel in ITunes click on "Purchased" under the STORE option. All your purchased songs will appear on the right panel
4.- At the bottom and right there is the option : "Download Previous Purchases". Click there.
5.- Click on the option "Are not in my Library" (top right)
6.- The songs you deleted from iTunes will appear.
7.- Downloaded them again. (You have the option to download at the bottom right)
8.- Syncronize your iPhone and that's all.

You cannot delete the account from the server (partly to prevent the username from becoming available again and some-one else using it to pretend to be you).. Having disengaged your devices from it, go to http://icloud.com and delete any data in there such as contacts and calendars. Then just ignore it.

  • Aperture (3.4.1) no longer opens and the following message appears: There was an error opening the database for the library "/ Users / Andrea / Pictures / Aperture 3 Library.aplibrary." How can I solve this problem? Thanks

I was using Aperture (3.4.1), when he appeared a notice that asked me to stop the Mac with the power button. When I restart Aperture no longer opens and the following message appears: There was an error opening the database for the library "/ Users / Andrea / Pictures / Aperture 3 Library.aplibrary."
How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks

After a system crash your Aperture Library may be corrupted, because Aperture may not have been able to finish the ongoing database transactions.
Have you tried the Aperture Library First Aid Tools?
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
Try "Repair Database", and if this does not help: "Rebuild Database"

When importing raw photos from Nikon D90 aperture seems to automatically adjust exposure darker. why? How can I stop this?

This is typical of the default NEF RAW conversion of Aperture and the best thing you can do is set up a few presets to apply to all of your RAW images to get a tone curve and colors that is pleasing to you as a default. The in camera JPEGs / embedded JPEGs (that you first see during import) are treated to the Nikon "Picture Control" settings that are set on the camera - the RAW's as interpreted by Aperture are not.
I have written extensively and even have a few downloadable presets on my site - look for NEF...

It s a terrible process for working and makes using internet very slooooooow.

There are two different Flash Player Plugins for Windows (3 if you count Google Chrome, but it's built in and functions independently of the other two).
The one for Firefox won't affect IE.
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Download and run both of those. That should have you up to date.

    Hi,
you can find documentation for Designer under this website
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/10.0/documentation.html#task=4,5&module=2
In Designer you can use the JavaScript API of Acrobat.
So the Devnet for Acrobat is also a good source.

  • When I open iTunes or even change a preference, iTunes scans through all of my apps. How can I stop this?

To get straight to the point, whenever I open iTunes or close a pop-up from iTunes, it starts scanning through my collection of applications. This has slowly got on my patient nerve. It wasn't always this was. Before I transfered all my data from my Mac to Pc, it worked fine. So I am wondering what is it doing, and how can I stop this. Bare in mind I have alot of apps. Thanks in advance for the help!
    Sincerely,

You can only use the German iTunes/App store if you are located in Germany.  The German store is in the German language.

If my network connection goes out briefly due to a problem at my ISP, FireFox immediately opens a "diagnose network problems" page. This is particularly annoying when I don't even have FireFox or any other software open. Ideally, I do NOT want FireFox to even check if my Network is connected. How can I stop this?

  • Doing a 30 minute video created 15 Gigabyte of Internet usage. Why? And how can I stop this!

Created a small, simple 30 minute video. Burned a few CDs. Downloaded one (1) sound track (a few MB). Internet usage soared to an unbelievable 15 GB!
All data, files, etc on my PC, yet Premiere Elements used the Internet constantly, especially when burning CDs.
Why? There was nothing to upload or download (except 1 sound track). This maxed my Internet allowance, and has cost me a lot of cash for extra capacity.
How can I stop this data gluttony.
Or do I have to junk a new, expensive program? (Premiere Elements 13.

    Contacted support.
They say that this is 'impossible'!!!
Went for Option 2. Accept one-time waste of Internet capacity. Write it off to painful experience. Junked Premiere Elements 13.
    Problem solved.

There is no bug, there is no patch, and no one needs to delete any email addresses. If you take the time to read the posts with the correct answers, you will see that the solution is totally different than the erroneous one you have posted.

My children's iPod has no contacts and no access to icloud data etc but yet on email they can still get access to icloud addresses. How can I stop this?

    I recommend that you
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:

Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

  • All of a sudden Safari is automatically  launching loud and annoying ads.  How can I stop this

Annoying and loud ads are popping up and playing automatically in Safari.  How can I stop this?  I have 8.0.5 and OS 10.10.3

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
