Aperture Integration in Other Pro Apps

I would seriously consider buying FinalCut and more Pro Apps in case they would allow browsing the Aperture Library just as you do with iMovie and iPhoto Lib.
The thing is once I started using Aperture, my iPhoto Lib is empty and I hate switching Apps to export the desired shots for the video Apps.
Has anybody some news about this or am I the only person interested in this "feature"? This would also allow me to get rid of the nice but bulky iApps (except iTunes, of course

This is the first time I've seen this requested. Just so your hopes don't raise too high (not that what I've seen matters a bit, just that I try to read a lot and I've not seen this request before).

  • Training for Logic + other pro apps

Has anyone been to one of the apple store traning in London or anything, the lectures are only an hour so i guess they can't be that detailed?, are they free? And if they only cover the basics has anyone been to a more proffesional training centre for pro apps like Logic (like the ones they advertize on the apple site) How expensive are they and are they any good?
    Thanks

The presentations at the store are definitely very basic...
Since I live near the Apple SoHo store, one day recently
I went to the Logic Pro workshop, just hoping I would
pick up one or two new tips, but got none...
It was just a good introduction to what Logic does, best
for someone who hasn't had a chance to see it running
    in person...

  • Presence deployment on 'third party specs-based' VM platform & integration with other UC apps on MCS hw

I have a client who's currently running UCM ver 9.1.1 on MCS hw .. each for Call Mgr., UCxn, CCX.. they want to add Presence & IM on their own VM hardware and infrastructure.. on 'third party specs-based' platform.  Besides complying with VM hw compatibility list and supported CPU..Would full Presence features be available or only chat/ IM?  Has anyone had deployment experience with hybrid integration of  UCM apps on separate MCS hw and introducing Presence on VM platform ?  Client just purchased new MCS hw 2-yrs ago.  I'm assuming ISO file for Presence available for download without additional cost for actual media/ software; is that also true?

As long as the HW is supported, there is no limitation on what you get out of the product.
If they have verified their VM infrastructure complies to the Cisco requirements, and it does, whether the other apps are on MCS, UCS, 3rd party specs, etc. makes no difference at all.

  • Aperture integration with new iPhoto app

    Do these programs work together?
I do not use iPhoto on my mac, just Aperture 3.  I don't need or want to add another layer of complexity to my work flow, however, if this new iPhoto app is better and more intergrated into the Apple ecosystem than, say, SnapSeed or one of the other very good iPad apps, then I'm all for it.
    Any ideas?

You do not need to use iPhoto on your Mac to use iPhoto on your iOS device. iPhoto on your iOS device will edit pictures from the camera roll on the device.
If you want to sync pictures from your Mac TO your iOS device, you can choose to use Aperture or iPhoto in the iTunes preferences. No need to switch to iPhoto on the Mac. However, if you're already editing pictures on your Mac, you don't really need to edit them on your iDevice as well...
If you're using something like the Camera Connection Kit with your iPad and want a better photo editor while you're on the go, you might wait to see just a little bit and see what kind of reviews the new iPhoto for iOS gets and maybe someone can compare the features for you.

  • Aperture no longer a Pro App?

A colleague of mine purchased Aperture for use at our company. He is a graphic designer in charge of producing marketing material. When Aperture was more expensive, he could not get permission to purchase the software. However the new price reduction took away that barrier and so he bought Aperture from the App store. BIG Mistake! Too late did he realize that the Terms of Use for the App store allow NO commercial use of the software. So Aperture cannot be used by him since it is for commercial use. Now he is in serious trouble for wasting money. At least it is not the original price.
Potential Aperture users should be aware that no professional use is allowed if you buy from the App store.

This looks pretty conclusive to me. Yes you can download apps from the MAS for commercial use!
    Would you agree?

  • Aperture and other Pro Applications ( Final Cut, Motion, DVD Studio Pro )

    Hi folks,
I have bought Final Cut Studio a while back, and have been working with all the tools for a while now ( FCP, Motion and DVD Studio Pro ). Recently I also switched to Aperture to manage / capture / organise my digital photographs ( previously I used iPhoto ).
Now I was wondering how I could use the pictures from my Aperture library in Motion or DVD Studio Pro. When I look at the file Browser, I can easily use some iPhoto pictures, but apparently I can't seem to find anything for Aperture.
What I would like to do is use some pictures from Aperture in a Motion project and also include an Aperture album in DVD Studio as a SlideShow.
What would be the best way to do this ? Do I have to export the pictures I want to use ? Or am I missing something ?
    Regards,
    Stefaan

    Stefaan,
Unfortunately, that type of integration between the Pro Apps is not there (yet). It would definitely be a nice feature to have. We should all send feedback to Apple asking for this feature. For now, you will need to export photos for use in these other apps.
Along the same lines, I would also like to see integration with Aperture and the "iLife" programs. Since Aperture will likely replace iPhoto for at least some of us, it would be nice to be able to use Aperture photos in these apps as well.

  • Aperture a "PRO" app ?

I've used Aperture 2 for quite some time to manage a simple library with both personal photos and a few jobs. I started looking for another solution once my business got bigger.
The problem is, managing a library isn't really a feature provided by other pro apps, like Capture One for example.
I recently wanted to try Aperture again in a more manually managed way. As I would do in the finder directly with a personal way of managing folders, just with extra Aperture features.
I still can't believe how unsafe this app is. (just for the facts, during import I selected "store files in their current location") During the process of testing, I wanted to delete all projects from APERTURE ONLY. I expected at least a notice from Aperture asking me if I wanted to move the files to the trash or to keep them in their original folders.
Not only did it not do that, and that all my files where one click away from being forever deleted, but it placed ALL images into the trash without the original hierarchy, discarding all folders. Needless to say, at this point CMD+Z doesn't have any effect.
Luckily for me, I have everything backed up all the time. So I won't spend a whole month reorganizing my files.
Now Apple, did I miss something here ? I hope so.

If you delete a project in Aperture 3 it goes in the app's Trash with everything intact: folders, albums, whatever. I just did it on a test project just to make sure. If you then go into the Trash you can right-click and select Put Back, which does exactly what it says.
If you choose to do a permanent deletion you get a message telling you what's going to happen. If you put an album in the Trash it even tells you no actual files will be deleted (because it's an album which never contains originals). Where's the "unsafe" part?
And please don't take this the wrong way but if you're a "PRO" and you decide to delete all your projects you should really know what you're doing. You should know how Aperture works both in its hierarchy and in its relationship to referenced or managed files.
What were you trying to accomplish exactly?

  • Aperture 1 Uninstallation Woes (Software Update Pro Apps Stuff)

A friend of mine had Aperture 1 installed on her computer for a while. She was not using it anymore and deleted it. The updates for Pro Apps kept coming up (no other pro apps on the computer). Tried deleting /Library/... and ~/Library/... stuff pertaining to aperture. Didn't help. Tried deleting the .pkg's in /Library/Receipts ... Didn't help. What else needs to be removed? Or is the Pro Application Update 2006-02 useful for something else? Thanks all!

The problem was, I had moved the Aperture 1.0 application into a new folder (it is placed by default at the top level of the APplications folder), and it seems that the 1.5.2 update installer doesn't recognize it in other locations.
So, when I moved it backt out of the new folder into the Application folder again, everything worked just fine.

  • Problems after updating to last Pro Apps version

    Hi.
I have installed recently the last Pro Apps update and after that no one of the Final Cut Studio applications open.
I heard a long ago that it happened when you have a "pirate" serial number, but I've got a legal copy with a valid sn, so is not related to that.
I have tried to remove the Final Cut Studio System ID for FCP to ask me for the serial number again, but it doesn't work.
I have tried to remove all the files from FCP ( including all on user's preferences and on hard disk's Library folder ) and reinstall the application, but it doesn't work.
What else I can do? I don't want to reinstall the whole system because there's something wrong at the last Pro Apps update.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tomtzart

The new system 10.4.10 update has been a big hassle for me and nothing but trouble. This started with a couple of severe system crashes, the computer would not restart until I disconnected all peripherals. I then discovered that there were problems with Aperture crashes when I did some research on MacFixit to find out what had happened with my computer.
I then decided to try to see if Aperture would open, and sure enough, it crashed, along with all the other Pro Apps. So, again, I did some research and found the following information at Mac OS Hints. I am actually on a Power PC, not an Intel Mac.
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-55278.html
    SOLUTION:
The solution to this problem (snip), is to get the Universal version of ProKit.Framework (v3.1.1) either from your Intel-based Tiger install DVD (via pacifist [Google it]) that came with your Intel-mac, OR download it from the following URL:
    http://www1.chapman.edu/~wayla100/ProKit.zip
BE SURE TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS AFTER REPLACING/INSTALLING THE ProApp.Framework file into /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
I unzipped the file, and took the offending folder out of the PrivateFrameworks Library and then replaced it with the equivalent folder which I had unzipped. After having repaired permissions as instructed, I have launched Aperture, and then I opened the Aperture Library file, and it is now reloading all my pictures.
I assume that this procedure has corrected the issue with all the other Pro Apps.
I hope this is as much use to you as it was to me.

  • Which hard drive option for pro apps use on new Macbook Pro?

I'm trying to decide b/t either a 500 GB 7200 drive or the 1 TB 5200 drive on my new 17" MBP. I mostly use FCP, but am learning the other apps as well. The salesman told me today that:
1- The 1 TB 5200 would probably be about 10% slower than the 500 GB 7200 in rendering if my media is on these drives. This assumes neither drive's capacity is too filled.
2- More importantly, if I use an external hard drive for my media then my boot drive will have nothing to do with performance. He said all it would affect is how quickly FCP et al opens originally and that the rest of its active running is done by the RAM. The rendering would be dependent upon the external drive. So, the boot drive wouldn't really matter with this setup.
Does this, especially #2, sound right? If so, I'd definitely take the 1 TB option. But any info or thoughts on this are greatly appreciated, especially as the MBP will be replacing my G5.
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

Oh sure, I know it's always advisable to use a separate video drive. A SSD and that Caldigit VR mini do sound like a great combo and thanks for the heads up about them, but that would be something down the road for me. SSD boot drives aren't big enough for me and are too pricy at this point for my budget. I do plan on using some external storage as my video when I'm editing something bigger than SD. But right now I'm just trying to figure out what my best option is for the boot drive. Primarily I trying to find out if the boot affects the performance of FCP (and the other Pro Apps) when using external storage. If it doesn't, then I know what I should buy.
    Thanks!

  • Just bought launch pro, I click on Recall, it goes to App Store and shows a blank white screen. Like I'm being blocked from this. All other supported apps open in App Store, just not Recall, please help

I just bought the Launch Pro app. Within the app it shows all supported apps, one of them is Recall, I click on Recall it goes to the App Store but doesn't open, it's just a blank white square, all the other apps that I have tried open fine. I've long suspected that my X is getting EVERY WORD that's spoken in my house and every email, web site that I go to...every everything. Can someone please help. I found smart mailboxes on my lap top that I didn't set up, the night that I discovered these my laptop crashed. Help help help.

You would get better response from the iTunes community forum.

you mentioned that Terminal does not work at all for your MacBook Pro. What currently happens when you run Terminal? In what way does it not work?

  • Photoshop 2014 UI smaller than my other Adobe apps on Surface Pro...

I recently purchased a MS Surface Pro 3. For some reason the user interface is smaller in Photoshop than any other Adobe program. The experimental 200% UI preference makes Photoshop FAR to large. I don't know what Adobe is thinking.
All of the other Adobe app interfaces are a nice usable size. Is there any way to get the Photoshop interface to be the same size as other Adobe apps?

Is it normal for Photoshop to have smaller menus than the other Adobe products thought?
Here is a screen capture of two apps and their size comparison.

  • Is there any other way to buy pro apps like logic pro x or final cut pro x without downloading straight from the internet?

    Hi,
Just straigt to the issue, I'm not really sure with my internet connection in my country. I mean its so slow and sometimes it disconnects and reconnect. So I'm not trusting the internet connection here to download such a big software like Logic Pro x or Final Cut Pro x. So is there any way for me to buy the pro apps without downloading straight from the internet? I mean like the oldschool method, come with a box. I bought Logic pro 7 and 8 like that and has no problem with it. But now apple selling all the pro apps from the app store, its cool and easy but im afraid if i bought it online and im pretty sure i will encounter problems during the download period. It might took me like a week or more maybe to download 40GB file, i dont know. And more over, what if my internet connection cut off while i download the software?
So please do help me with this. I would love to have Logic Pro X on my apple computer.
    Thanks.

And to my knowledge I can't sort of 'drag and drop' the clips from the sealed Final Cut event files either.
The events are not "sealed". Your clips – if you copied rather than leaving in place  – are in the Original Media folder. If you used 10.1.x, you right click on the library bundle and choose Show Package Contents. In early versions, just open the event folder.
There are multiple ways to get media on ones' computer. One way is to use a card reader and copy the entire card structure to whatever destination is used for a media drive. Then import into the NLE.
I don't have any experience with Hitfilm but I assume their user forums would be a good place to get an understanding of what workflows work best for that application.
    Good luck.

  • Puzzled as puzzled can be: 8800 lower performance than 2600 in Pro Apps.

Yep. You read correctly. I'm speechlss...and very sad.
Barefeats has published some very interesting benchmarks in Motion and iMaginator, besides some popular games. The ATI2600 wins by far on the pro apps.
That's insane as the 8800 is far, far superior.
    Apple, listen:
-I frooze my intention to buy a current 8 core Mac. No way. I don't want an entry-level card (2600) and I expect the 8800 to work much better than what it shows.
-at this price range we, consumers, must pretend!
-video derivers: obviously they are badly written.
-cores usage: obviously they are not optimized in Apple apps as they are in Adobe's.
I'll save my grands and will look at Windows workstations as a curiosity.
    Less iPhones-MORE MACS!
    I

I wonder how much could be due to drivers and application support. The Graphics Update 1.0 (a new feature, having a stand-alone driver package) and how much time, now that 8800 is here, to see improvements.
Some people said WoW saw 20% improvement. Vista drivers took a year. The 5600 is marketed to higher-end market with 1.5GB RAM.
From the above link on Barefeats, quote:
+the Quadro FX 5600 does feature more video memory than the GeForce 8800 GT (1.5GB vs 512MB). And, according to one Maya guru, the extra memory (and superior memory management code) of the Quadro workstation cards becomes useful for frame buffering in apps like Maya. This is especially true for redraw of multiple views of the same complex 3D model.+
+This has been enhanced further by Quadro FX 5600's new integrated memory allocation which allows the card to dynamically allocate on-board RAM to whatever task is at hand rather than have specific hard wired allocations. So rather than say a maximum of 40% of total on-board RAM dedicated to the texture buffer the card can ramp up and down from 80% sharing with the immediate needs of the other buffers.+
Does what applies to Maya translate into better Motion performance also?
