Aperture iweb mobileme

Hi all,
Im trying to setup an nice looking photographers website using Aperture2, iweb hosted on mobileme...
I would like to keep it all looking simple with a black background.
I like what aperture creates and the way it sync's to mobileme, but im looking to have a homepage with links and other content.
I can create a black homepage, with a link to an aperture created gallery on mobileme, but my question is this.. how can you link back from mobileme to the homepage?
or is there a better way??

  • Aperture - iWeb - MobileMe...  WORKFLOWS WANTED!

I come seeking advice, and hoping this online essay will spark some discussion on the much-needed integration of Apple-apps online photo sharing and display capabilities -- and I promise to keep the rants to a minimum...
    *What I'm trying to do:*
Create a series of Aperture-published (or at least Aperture-based, since that's where my pictures reside) photo pages, pages on which visitors can...
    1) Quickly peruse the thumbs (with column&row arrangement, sizing, and framing options all determined by me), while also reading some descriptive text I've provided re the overall event being showcased;
    2) View individual shots at a modest but adjustable display size in Slideshow mode (with transition options I've set), and simultaneously see the associated Caption, Date and whatever other Aperture-stored metadata I've chosen to be displayed for that set of images; and then, if they so desire...
    3) Download selected images at their original, FULL-pixel dimensions (assuming I've set the page to allow that).
    4) PLUS, I want to have each of these individual pages indexed on an iWeb "Album Page", which allows for the contents of each individual photo page to be mouse-skimmed before actually clicking and going to that page.
    *An Impossible Dream?*
Not really. Everything I've just described is relatively easy to do -- but only in bits and pieces, it appears -- using Aperture, Aperture-published MobileMe Albums (aka Galleries) and Aperture-published Web Pages, iWeb '09, iWeb's Media Browser, and a MobileMe account. So now I find myself playing Dr. Frankenstein (that's "Fronkensteen"), and trying to stitch together a new form of photographic life online.
In other words, I'm just trying to create the kind of truly functional and flexible photo pages which SHOULD be a no-brainer by now, since all the features I'm imagining already exist! (Then again, I shouldn't ask for too much -- I mean it's not like Aperture, iWeb, and the MobileMe service are all from the same company, right?)
    *In OTHER other words...*
I want to publish Gallery-esque pages from Aperture, but ones which automatically include and display whatever combination of Caption, Title, Date, or any other Metadata I select. And ones which can be INDIVIDUALLY indexed on an iWeb Album Page, as opposed to simply dragging in iWeb's MobileMe widget (which so far as I can tell just gives you a single link to ALL your Galleries in one quick but inelegant whack).
    OR...
I want to publish Aperture Web Pages, but ones which aren't given a ludicrous "homepage.mac" URL (cripes, how old is THAT code?), and which can be easily seen by iWeb once published, so they can then be dragged into iWeb Album pages for convenient indexing and one-stop skimability by the user. (Also, pages for which Aperture has some sort of "Settings / Visit Page / Announce Site" pull-down button as it does for every MobileMe Gallery -- that's just being consistent.)
    OR...
I want iWeb's Media Browser to let me select and drag into iWeb the contents of specific Aperture Projects and/or Albums, but with all Caption, Date, and other metadata for the selected images included, AND (if I so choose) at their FULL resolution -- rather than only at their currently-designated Preview size, which is now the case.
    *Whichever way you describe it...*
I'm not really asking for anything all that new, just for some long-overdue integration between the already-existing photo-publishing abilities of Aperture, iWeb, and MobileMe. But before I start submitting more pages of "isn't this obvious?" input to their respective Feedback sites, I'd love to get anyone's thoughts, reactions, or best of all, suggestions as to how to at least partially achieve, the kind of Aperture-based photo publishing & sharing sites I'm still hoping to create.
Many thanks (if only for reading this far!),

Many thanks to both David and Bob for the above posts -- it's just nice to know I'm not alone in this frustration.
Sometimes I desperately wish Apple would appoint a CAO (Cross-Application Ombudsman), a "Minister for Inter-Application Affairs", someone whose only job was to track the functions and features in different Apple apps, to correlate that understanding with relevant user input from a dedicated AppleWorkflows Feedback page, and whose mandate was to then:
    a) make sure that the interface of each app behaved in a consistent and predictable manner (so that, for example, Option-clicking a disclosure triangle in a Viewer window list of video filters in FinalCut had the same functionality as Option-clicking a disclosure triangle in a Finder window list of folders and sub-folders -- which it currently DOES NOT);
    and
    b) - most importantly - make sure the individual apps talked to each fluently and interacted in logical, productive ways (the subject of this thread being a prime example of where that's NOT happening).
This person would have the authority to force the programmers working on different apps to actually talk to each other BEFORE new versions get released; to imagine intelligent, creative ways in which the different apps should interact-- and then require the programmers to implement those scenarios. Essentially, the CAO's only reason for coming to work each day would be to oversee the conception, development and implementation of cross-app workflows which benefit and free up (rather than block and frustrate) the multi-Apple-apps user.
The key is that this person (or persons) would have to be given some real power -- not just to recommend, but in many cases to actually require. (For instance, this person would long ago have required the Aperture team to release a free update which no longer published anything to a "homepage.mac" URL. All together now: "Duh".)
And, as mentioned above, they would have their own separate and well-publicized AppleWorkflows Feedback Page (plus a dedicated public discussion forum as well?), to which users would be actively encouraged to submit their ideas on Inter-App problems and possibilities.
Call me crazy -- but that's my dream, and I ain't givin' it up.

  • How to add uploaded photos (not from aperture) in Mobileme Gallery to a project

I shared some photos using a mobileme gallery where I allowed friends to upload their photos to the gallery.  Now the gallery exists with both the photos from my aperture library (and project) and my friends photos (which appear in aperture with a little symbol).
I would like to have the photos that were uploaded by my friends to be added to a new project without moving or erasing them in the mobileme gallery.  Is there a simple way to do this? I know if I select photos from a project and drag and drop them to another project aperture moves the photos but I don't know if this is how aperture handles mobileme galleries in the inspector.
    Jeff

Just drag an image from the MobileMe Gallery to a project it will copy the image, not move it. Aperture will move images that are stored locally in the library but since these images uploaded by friends are only stored on the MobileMe servers, Aperture will make a copy when you drag them to a project.

  • Aperture with Mobileme

I have uploaded pictures from within Aperture to Mobileme and have had no problems getting them there. The problem is the picture Size, they are coming in at about 250k every photo with some going to 300k. This may not be a problem for fast broadband, however we live in a very slow broadband Rural Area. I need pictures at about 60 - 100 k max but i cant find the settings in Aperture or Mobileme. I can see the Email size in aperture but no picture Export settings. Can anybody help me with this problem.

Hi, as I stated in another post, I am curious to hear the answer to this question. MobileMe publish function doesn't have any controls for size and compression, unless I'm missing something.
I have to figure out another way -- publishing to MobileMe using the normal web export function. Suggestions?

  • Google finding iWeb mobileme site

I have an iWeb mobileme site and a separate domain name linked. Google can't find it.
Does a site have to be hosted separately for this to happen?

In terms of SEO, iWeb sites aren't that different from any other site. It's slightly more challenging to accomplish some things, but for the most part, you can nail all of the important on-page optimizations on iWeb that you could if you were to have an HTML/CSS website.
But anyways, if your site isn't commercial and traffic isn't a big issue for you, then you don't really need to worry about SEO or hosting. If you want to be found to some degree, ie. typing your site URL into Google, then you just need to create and submit an XML Sitemap and you're good to go.

  • Domain IWEB Mobileme

Hi, I have a question that is driving me crazy! I want to publish a page made with iWeb mobileme, I took an all-in hosting domain to redirect to mobileme and leave the url of the page I want. The page is www.dinoaldolor.com I have already added the mobile domain and post me what I published as www.dinoaldolor.com / NOALDOLOR and what I want is that I published as www.dinoaldolor.com. So I can not visit the website or do anything because the domain does not match the one I've purchased. X Please Help!
    Thanks

  • IWeb 08 / Aperture 2 / MobileMe albums "No albums or movies available"

I've searched the forums and there doesn't seem to be a resolution for this. It seems the issue has been known about for quite some time now; hard to believe Apple is just ignoring this.
    basics:
I created MobileMe albums via Aperture 2. I open iWeb '08 and go to insert the album and get this message: "No albums or movies available"; this message also appears via the Widget add. The albums are NOT password protected.

Well I have found a work around... Though others need to test it as well as me.
Log into me.com and open the gallery you prepared in aperture.
Select the "Adjust the settings for this album" button at the top, then select the pop-up that says "Syncs with" and choose "iPhoto" instead of "Aperture".
    Press "Publish".
That's it, the gallery now appears in the iWeb Widgets list!
Also it still syncs with Aperture, both way

  • IWeb & MobileMe Gallery ????

Can someone explain to me Apple's strategy or idea behind having the MobileMe "Gallery" functionality in Mobleme and iPhoto, Aperature etc and also having iWeb ? Especially considerng that they publish to different places.
Is there any way to get iWeb to publish to the MobileMe "gallery" instead of iDisk ?
I just don't understand where Apple is going with both "tools". Anyone got any ideas as to what all this means long term? What does Apple have to say about the two disparate environments ?
    TIA,
    Peter

    PeterWor wrote:

Peter ~ I suppose the answer is that the MobileMe "Gallery" functionality in MobileMe, iPhoto, Aperture, etc. is necessary for those who want to simply publish photo galleries without learning a website creation tool such as iWeb. And +"also having iWeb"+ is necessary for those who want to publish web pages that aren't simply photo galleries.
    PeterWor wrote:

It's probably a wise move on Apple's part that they do publish to different places — not all the eggs are in one basket. Also, a photo gallery is just one type of web page and it's reasonable that iPhoto & Aperture can publish the photos in their photo libraries to a special type of web page called a MobileMe Gallery. Plus, the integration is tighter from those apps than it would be from iWeb's indirect access to photos via the Media Browser.
...But I admit that the variety of ways to publish and access MobileMe web pages and Galleries can be confusing at first.
    PeterWor wrote:

No — The Galleries have a special location and structure on iDisk that iPhoto, iMovie and Aperture set up during publishing. iWeb doesn't set up that Gallery environment. iWeb does, however, allow you to embed an existing MobileMe Gallery in your iWeb site — see this video tutorial:

    PeterWor wrote:

I doubt that you could find something written by Apple that would discuss them as "disparate environments". I suspect Apple considers that the different environments it offers are necessary to provide flexibility and choice — but admittedly the result of that can be confusion, especially when first starting to review the different approaches. Some, despite having successfully published their galleries here:
    http://gallery.me.com/membername
...are unaware that they can then control some aspects of it from here:

  • Move iWeb MobileMe Blog to Wordpress

I had to migrate my private Blog about my 2 years old little daughter from Apples mobileme servers to a wordpress account.
I wanted to keep all the comments too (Marlas birth..). So i wrote a perl script to do the job. It is far from beeing perfect, but it works for me. So it may work for you too. You have to adjust some things, that‘s for sure.
    Features:
    -Keep Comments
    -Keep Images (hmm mostly)
-Sets email-adresses for comments by Name
-Sets Tags by text strings occured in title or body
-Free, but my daughter will get every euro you donate! THX!
Note: The script works only while the apple servers are up. After 30. June all your comments are gone!

@MirkoW, would you like to wrap your pl script in an applescript app?
i can help you with that, so people like moopie can just double click and run your app without launching terminal.app.
sorry, i'm just can code some little perl. Applescript is completly new to me. I don't think it's worth the time since the mobileme servers are shut down in june.
    moopie wrote:
Cyclosaurus, what an excellent idea! MirkoW, I gave it a try and got it to generate a file, but wasn't successful yet. I originally published my blog to a folder on my computer. The way my blog is set up, I have three separate sections, each with its own archive and RSS feed. Don't ask me why - it was the only way I could think to separate several different years of posts on my blog.
Hmm, we have to see if we can get the images right. The main problem is that iweb uses the same shapeimageXYZ.png shema for every post and wordpress need to have unique filenames. So my script is guessing the filenames wordpress makes out of them by importing. sorry my english is not as good it should for explaining in detail. Example
iWeb hat 2 posts both with
    shapeimage_1.png
So the first post get's the filename shapeimage_1.png but the second post get's the filename shapeimage_11.png.
But what if you have later an image which has already the name shapeimage_11.png?
    You got the problem?
For me it works with some tricks. so don't be afraid, i can look into it if you want.
    moopie wrote:
Does the perl script need to be in the same folder as the posts I want to export?
No, the script does not use any local file, it get's all information directly from the mobileme servers.
Thanks for your patience - I do appreciate your help on this and I see the potential for your script. It's the closest thing to a solution I've seen so far. Worst case scenario, I'll get an engineer at work to help me figure out what to do!
can you give me the link to your blog? so i can look into the html code. I think that would be the fastest way to help you.

  • Aperture to MobileMe gallery - shots are not sharp

I use both Zenfolio and MobileMe and export from Aperture 2 to both of these sites, but my photos on MobileMe look a bit fuzzy on MobileMe, while they look great in Zenfolio. Anyone have this issue or have any tips?
    THanks,
    Peter

I also want to add to what Mr Endo said...
    A) It shouldn't be possible to select a folder and then have the option of publishing to Mobile Me, Facebook or Flickr. For me those are all grayed out when I have a folder selected in the sidebar.
    B) Are you referring to a project or an album by chance? If so, then you will need to select the photos, in the Browser, before choosing to upload to an online service.
    Cheers,
    Owen

  • IWeb Mobileme gallery cannot be found

I use iphoto to publish my pictures to my MM gallery this all works a treat and i can view them without a problem. When i want to share these pictures i always used iWeb and then the Mobileme widget, but lately it cannot find any MM galleries the list is blank. There are over 40 in there and it used to work i think it has happened since i put snow leopard on any ideas ?

Are the albums "hidden" or password-protected? If so, try temporarily undoing that and see if it makes the other 40 albums available.
If not, try creating one new MobileMe album in iPhoto, publish it to MobileMe and see if it makes the other 40 albums available.

  • Photo Albums not working with iPhone/iWeb/MobileMe combination

OK, I find this surprising given this is an all Apple deal here...
When I create Photo Albums and photo pages the pages don't display any of the images on my iPhone... Works OK on my Mac's Safari, works OK on Firefox... iPhone, nothing, it's like the Javascript they use to create the photo albums doesn't do it's thing on the iPhone version of Safari.
And apparently if I leave my iPhone on my desk while I type this message with the browser window open to the page with no images it spontaneously combusts... er... I mean it reboots the iPhone (not just a Safari crash).
Apple... How do I see my Mobile Me Web Site on my iPhone?
    OS X 10.5.5, iPhone 2.1, iWeb 08 2.0.4, MobileMe 1.whatever.apple.is.using.to.host.the.thing
    Best Regards, Bruce

The photo pages and MMe albums require java script support to view and iPhoto doesn't have that as yet as far as I know.

  • IWeb, mobileme, problems

I tried to upload some photos to my iWeb site last night and a message comes up and says to sign in to Mobileme, however, when I try that another message says Mobileme has been disabled.  I have moved to iCloud, but I am not sure how to apply that to my iWeb account.
    suggestions?

Now that MobileMe has shut down you will need to find a 3rd party web host to upload your website to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • IWeb -MobileMe widget flash alternative?

I use an iMac and use iWeb to create and manage my website - it is great.  I use the MobileMe widget to have photos scrolling on my page automatically - very nice... unfortunately if a visitor views my website with an iPhone or an iPad ("the ultimate browsing machine") they cannot see this because their Apple device does not support Flash (yes I read:  http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash).  So where is the support for the heralded HTML5 in this MobileMe widget?  What is the alternative to accomplish the rolling photos so that iPhone and iPad viewers can see the content?   www.chriskopf.com.   Thanks, Chris.

  • IWeb / MobileMe / Site Sync?

Hi, I was hoping that iWeb sites across computers synced with MobileMe would be kept up to date that way, ie. machine x has sites 1,2,3 then machine y would have those same sites available for editing in iWeb. Is there a way to do this? thx!!!

You can use iWebSites to merge the two domain files into one. Rename both sites to represent the site name inside and put into your your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Run iWebSites, select the two domain files and hit the merge button. A new domain file will be created containing both sites.
