Aperture Jumping to First Photo in Browser List

My Aperture library photos are organized into Projects and Albums. I use List View to browse my photos. Within each Album, the photos are organized in numerical order from lowest to highest. I’m using the most current version of Aperture 3.
I generally do some photo post-processing using Adjustments in Aperture. However when I use Aperture to edit a photo (Crop for example), Aperture usually (but not always) loses my spot and jumps to the first photo in the Album. This is in the Browser list, though the current photo continues to be displayed in the Viewer. When Aperture jumps to the first photo in the list, it is incredibly annoying and time consuming to get back to where I was in the list.
If I just use a Preset in Adjustments, e.g., Quick Fixes > Auto Enhance (without cropping), Aperture generally maintains where I am in the Album browser list. I can just go to the next photo in the numerical sequence.
This has been going on since Aperture 2.1. I have a lot of volunteer work coming up and I would like Aperture to function properly. Does anyone have an idea how to eliminate this jump to the top of the list bug in Aperture?

Hi. So your workspace is set up in Split View, with the Browser in List View?
How are you activating the adjustment? ("when I use Aperture to edit a photo (Crop for example), Aperture usually (but not always) loses my spot ...") If you continue with the adjustment, is it applied to the Image showing in the Viewer?
Just trying to understand better the behavior you're seeing.

You can add more images to your book, by dragging them from the browser to your book album. Switch to the Library Inspector, select the album or project with the images in the source list, and then drag these images onto the book icon. That will add them to the book album, and then double click the book album again to continue working with the book.

Syncing photos from Aperture, only first photo in one Event

When I sync photos from Aperture to iPad I find all the photos in "Photo" but only the first photo under "Events". The same happens with iPod touch and Photos in iWeb.
Where is the setting for getting all the photos in one particular event? The photos have been transferred to iPad but not to the Events with the exception of the first one. When I click on an Event in Aperture the particular Event opens with all the photos contained.

How to turn off automatic scrolling to top of Browser list?

I'm having an issue in Aperture 3.2.1 that I've found to be very annoying. I'm curious if there's a way to disable this particular behavior. Opening an image from the Browser view causes the Browser list to scroll to the top upon closing the image. In other words, if I double-click a picture in the middle of the Browser, view it, and then double-click again to return to the Browser, the thumbnail I just viewed is displayed at the top of the screen (the list scrolls automatically instead of returning to the previous list position). This is frustrating when comparing similar images, because I have to scroll back up to see the related thumbnails. I guess I just don't feel that the Browser interface should revert to a different view unless I asked it to do so.
Scouring the Internet and these forums, I only came across one post that described this issue. It was apparently unresolved. The thread can be viewed here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2714848
Is there a way to change this behavior in Aperture, or is it something I'm going to have to live with?

Haha, that's OK, CalxOddity. It took me a while to notice the behavior to begin with, as not all of my projects have enough pictures to produce a scrollbar.
Léonie, I think the random effect you're seeing may depend on the size of the album or project you're viewing. The selected image needs to be "deep enough" in the list to revert to the top row, or else the scrollbar bottoms out. Kinda the same thing when dealing with projects that are small enough to not require scrollbars.
I suppose this is something I'll learn to live with, since it appears that everyone else is observing the same behavior. See, I'm coming from using Photoshop and Finder individually to manage my photos, and I do an awful lot of comparison viewing. Icon view in the Finder, along with Quick Look, made this job really easy. Quick Look in Aperture would be awesome...

HT4007 Thumbnails but no photos in Browser view

I have upgraded to aperture 3.4 and when I import files from a memory card or cd in Browser view, the thumbnails are black. If I switch to Split view and make a tiny adjust, the thumbnail displays correctly?

Your thumbnails may not be rendered correctly, try to generate them again.
Select the images that need new thumbnails in the Browser
Go to Aperture's main menu bar: Photos > Generate thumnails
This should bring the thumbnails back.
It should not be necessary to do this. Have you imported so many images, that Aperture still has not finished processing your imported images
by now?
Also, you may have a slight corruption in your Aperture library. I'd recommend to use the "Aperture 3 Library First Aid Tools" to repair your Aperture Library, just in case. This is always a good precaution before upgrading software or after a crash.

HT204414 How to import both iPhoto and Aperture library to iCloud Photo Library (Photos app)

Hi all,
Based on the article here (Designate a System Photo Library in Photos - Apple Support) has anyone tried to bring both an iPhoto and Aperture library into iCloud Photo Library so that both libraries are available as one in iCloud and form the one Photos app library rather than being seen as separate libraries. I don't want the two separated as I have 200GB's of space in iCloud which is plenty to hold the two's collective space of about 40GB's.
It seems as though the procedure is pretty simple.
First of all set one of your libraries as the System Photo Library, this will happen naturally with setting up Photos app for the first time. I chose iPhoto as the original library.
Let this library upload all it's photo's to iCloud over a few minutes, hours, days etc.
When finished, enter your other library by closing Photos app and reopening while holding down the Option key (usually Alt). In this case I now opened the Aperture library that it had found.
Under Preferences > iCloud set this library as the System Photo Library and in turn it will have the ability to upload to iCloud.
When it's finished I suppose you will have both iPhoto AND Aperture pictures in the one iCloud Photo Library.
At least I hope the above makes sense.
Anybody already tried this with good / bad results, let us know here.

That bit seems clear. You can merge photos from different libraries by making them 'designated' first .
BUT this means that Photos app only shows you library A , or library B, depending on which one you have opened , but Icloud library contains photos from Both library A and library B .
is this correct ?

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

Evidently iWeb is not reading the auto-rotate tag and making the proper corrections so the browser displays it correctly. I suggest you export the photo from iPhoto as a portrait oriented photo, reimport and add that to the web page in lieu of the current photo.

How to start a slideshow not from the first photo in iPhone 11?

In iPhoto 06 and 08 I could start, or restart, a slideshow from any photo by simply clicking on this photo in the 'filmstream' and then click 'start'. This appears to be no longer possible in iPhoto 11; e.g. the slideshow always starts with the first photo in the filmstream. Why?

Can anyone tell me the rational behind why something that once worked beautifully in older versions of iPhoto, the latest iPhoto now works differently. Experience and annoyance like this once brought me into the Apple universe shunning Microsoft.
I got used to, and used it often in my presentations, to start a saved slideshow from any slide I selected in the photo browser. My presentations are from several trips throughout the year in chronological order, displaying unattended in the background at annual social parties. But often party guests would come up and request to see photos from a specific trip. It was easy to stop the show and restart it from anywhere in the stream. I fail to understand why this feature was removed.

Defaulting a dropdown to the first item in the list

I have two dropdowns in InfoPath 2010. The second dropdown gets populated depending on what the first dropdown is set to.
Example: If the first is set to Florida, the second will display all the cities in Florida. If you set the first to Georgia, the second will change to a list of cities in Georgia.
The problem is that it defaults to a blank line, I need the first item in the second dropdown to populate with the first item in the list.
I've scoured the web but I can't seem to find a solution.
Any solutions or workarounds?

My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management

I have recently purchased a Mac computer (updated to Maverick) to go with my Epson Stylus Photo RX500 printer which has given excellent service with my old Windows computer. However, when trying to print pictures or photos via Photoshop Elements 11, the best results I can get are using the Colour Management and Epson Colour controls in the printing options box.
My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management, The only way I can reset the controls is to shut down the printer and computer and restart.
Could there may be a setting somewhere that I need to adjust please? I have been in touch with Epson and they say that the Epson Colour controls are part of the Photoshop Elements software but a post on the Adobe forum brought no results and I am unable to contact Adobe.

Hello Garry. Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have used a different title from "How do I post a question?" That should come after trying to resolved the colour settings first. However, to answer your question, after experimenting with all the different settings in Photoshop Elements and Epson software, I now start with PSE11 Colour settings then click "no colour management" then after clicking Print, I choose "More Options/Colour Management/Colour Handling/Printer Manages Colour" then I choose "Page Setup/Layout/Colour Matching" which then shows Epson Colour Controls but I also choose "Layout/Colour Management" which then shows "Colour Controls/Mode" I then of course choose an Epson printer profile depending on the paper I am using. I get good results but as I said, the Colour Matching and Colour Controls are then greyed out. Hope that makes sense.

How to get the first element of a List?

I have the following hierachy:
A (top level)
-A1 (child of A)
-B1 (child of A)
--B11 (child of B1)
--B12 (child of B1)
I have an UDA on members B11 and B12 that have the same name as A1, and I use it to allocate values from A1 to B11 and B12. After that I want to aggregate the hierachy so I can have B1 and A with values.
I would like to use the ancestors function to do that but Ancestors need a member as parameter and the only relation between A1 and B11 and B12 is the UDA.
I can't do @ANCESTORS(@UDA(dimName, "A1")) because of that, so I would like to use a function to get at least 1 member that has the UDA I want and to use Ancestors on it, however I can't seem to find a function that returns the first member of a List.
Can someone help me on this?

Unfortunately it doesn't work. @List requires members names so I can't provide a member set as an argument :(^^^Are you sure? Take a look at the below example from the Tech Ref. That sure looks like @LANCESTORS and @LIST is accepting more than just member names.
FIX(@LANCESTORS(@LIST(@ATTRIBUTE(Caffeinated_True),@ATTRIBUTE(Ounces_12),"200-40")))Also note this:
If the @LANCESTORS function is used alone (not within a FIX statement), you must use the @LIST function and specify member names. So you DO have to use @LIST if @LANCESTORS is to be used to do an aggregation. Or so it appears.

After quiting out of the app a few times, it eventually stops reopening; however, about an hour later (or less) it opens again. HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP? I'm just about to delete itunes, because I've had enough of this crap. I hope someone can help. I've restarted the laptop, and it seemed like that fixed it, then itunes started up doing the same thing again an hour later. ituneshelper is unchecked; bluetooth is off; i only have speakers and a mouse plugged in (also charger).

David, have you enabled the "Autoflow" options? There are settings behind the cogwheel, that will automatically place unused images onto new pages. If you only want to select a few images from a large project, disable these two options:
Or start your book froman album, that only contains a selection of your images, rather than from the whole project.

Copy and Paste develop settings in Develop mode on multiple photos on the film strip works for me, even with Auto-Sync turned off. Lr5.6 OSx 10.8.5
