Aperture keywords not working

I am using 3.5. I select a group of photos in the browser (or list) and drag the keyword from the HUD over the selection, but it only attaches to the one I actually stop on. What's up?

As firstlaunch wrote you probably have Primary only set. When that is on actions only apply to the primary selection.

  • IPhoto 9.4.3-keyword "" not working correctly in smart albums

Every May I work on the 5th Grade recognition slideshow (using Keynote) for our 5th grade students.  In iPhoto, I always give photos the checkmark keyword after I've placed that photo so that I know it's been added/used.  I have many smart photo albums with keywords like "5th graders 2012-2013" and others like the checkmark.
None of the smart albums seem to be recognizing and using the checkmark even though it's one of the smart album criteria.  For example, I have a smart album called
"5th grade-already used" which has the criteria Match All:  Keyword is "5th graders-2012-2013" and Keyword is "✔".  However, even after giving some photos the checkmark keyword, this smart album shows up empty.
Similarly, I have another smart album called "5th-Still to use" which has criteria Match All: Keyword is "5th graders-2012-2013" and Keyword is not "✔". The photos that I've placed the checkmark on are STILL showing up here.
These smart albums have always worked before.  Has anyone else noticed issues with the checkmark keyword not working properly?  It has to have happened with an update sometime in the past year.

When I went to open the library using iPhoto Library Manager, it had to upgrade the library to work with this version of iPhoto.
    That's normal.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Keyword not working in search bar.

I added keyword for search engines in search bar: for example, for You Tube, it is yt. In the search bar I enter, "yt Avatar" and it displays a Google search for the entry. Why are the keywords not working?

You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".
    * Google "I'm Feeling Lucky": http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
    * Google "Browse by Name": http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.URL
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

Thanls Ernie. I found the solution. My problem was previous to 10.10.3. It looks like the installation of final cut and uninstallation of fcp delte a plugins that was needed for Aperture. I recover from time machine my plugins in Library/frameworks/plugin.manager.framework and now Aperture works ! Ouf....

  • Assume Aperture will not work?

Aperture will not work on an intel Mac mini so I assume it's the same for the MacBook?
Could someone run the Aperture Checker please.
    Cheers

While Aperture will work I believe you need to use a product like Pacifist…
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743
… to get around the Apple installer's system checks.
Also, since version 1.1.1 the graphics card requirements have been stepped up even further so don't expect spectacular performance from it.

  • Keywords not working as expected

OK, so I decided to go through some of my images today and start adding keywords. I watched the Keyword Quick Tour, read the manual and it all seemed pretty nifty. I particularly liked the Heirachical keywording which, s I understood it, would allow me to apply keywords to some vacation pictures as follows:
    New Zealand
    -South Island
    --Christchurch
    --Dunedin
    --Southern Alps
    ---Mt Cook
    -North Island
    etc etc
What I hoped that this would mean is that if I wanted to find my Mt Cook photos I could just search for Mt Cook. However, if I wanted to find all of the photos from the South Island of New Zealand, say, then I could search for South Island and find all my Mt Cook photos, christchurch photos etc etc.
Unfortunately it doesn't appear that it works this way, I'm getting some very weird search results back. And it gets even weirder if you start changing the heirachy about after you've applied the keywords. So what's going on, does anyone know if Keywords actually work as advertised? I assumed that it was using some sort of intelligent taxonomy id system but now I'm not so sure....
Or am I just getting the wrong end of the stick?
    Many thanks,
    Phil

if you use the Limited Text search option and search for South Island, you should get all images including those using the sub-keywords. what kind of weird results are you getting?
as for the second part of your question: Aperture doesn't link the keywords in the images to the keywords in the Keyword HUD. I believe it writes the keywords directly to the image and automatically orphans them there.
what's happening when you change the hierarchy?

  • Aperture help not working - getting JavaScript error message

My Aperture 3 has been having a lot of strange issues lately, most, but not all of which have been cleared up by holding down command + option while starting up and going through all three of the choices there.
One problem that remains is the inability to open the Help files. I keep getting the following message:
    “The Help Library requires JavaScript.
If JavaScript is not enabled, you will not
be able to view all the content.”
Help works in all other applications, like Pages and Final Cut Pro. I don’t get JavaScript error messages in any other applications.
I’ve already done an erase and restore from a Time Machine backup, and an archive and install. I reinstalled Aperture, although not by using the Terminal command suggested in the kbase article # HT3805.
If I go the Terminal command route, will I lose all my projects, albums, and editing? What about Mobile Me galleries?
I have a guest user on the computer, and when I log on to that user and open Aperture, the Help Library works fine. So, I know the problem is in my user account somewhere, but I don’t know how to address it. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the forums.
The fact that you have access to java in another user suggests that it is a local setting or preference.
In the applications folder/utilities there is an application Java Preferences, try resetting this and seeing if it works.
If not, try deleting the java preferences file in your users folder
    systemHD/Users/user/Library/Preferences/com.apple.java.JavaPreferences.plist
relaunch the app Java Preferences which creates a new preferences file for you, then try Aperture again.
Let us know how this goes.

  • Aperture email not working

I tried to send a photo via Apple mail and the export spinning wheel lit for 2 seconds and stopped, the photo did not create an email.
I have my setting to Mail.
I cannot remember if I exported a photo since the last recent update.
I have never had this issue before.
Here is what I have tried:
    (A)
Go thru File > Export > Mail
    (B)
    Close out aperture and mail
    (C)
    Try different jpeg sizes
    (D)
Try different photo from another project
    (E)
    iPhoto e-mail works
    Any other suggestions?

The Aperture e-mail is working this morning but I thought I would answer your questions anyway for future reference.
    Question:
    Answers:

what is your Aperture_3 version exactly?
    3.4.3
    (2)
And is your profile signature Mac OS X (10.6.5) still correct?
    10.8.2
    (3)
Do you have a referenced library or managed library?
I do not know what you are referring to.
    (4)
On the internal disk or an external volume?
Internal HD I also have an external as a B/U
    (5)
    Raw or jpeg images?
    I have both in Aperture
    (6)
Check the "Export" presets you are using in "Aperture > Preferences > Export > Mail"; after selecting one of the "Jpeg" options, set the selector to "Edit" and look, if the "Export" presets are still o.k.
Yes to the settings, I have always had that setting, I tried reset but still no Result.
    (7)
Have you tried the "Mail" button in the toolbar instead of File>Export>Mail?
    Yes
    (8)
Does it work, when using a different Aperture Library? You may want to create a test library for this.
Only have one Library, several projects which I tried
    (9)
Does it work from a different User account?
I only have one user a/c
    (10)
if Mail will not work at all, independent of the library or account .
Mail works fine and I could send a photo from iPhoto.
I will change my profile, I thought when I hit the latest version at the bottom of the post  to indicate what I have to send that it showed it in the post.

  • Deleting Aperture previews not working as expected

    Hello,
I am trying to reduce the number of pictures from my Apreture library that show up in the Media Browser. As far as I can tell, I need to tell Aperture to stop automatically generating previews and then I can manage them myself.
This is what I am doing:
    1. Within Aperture Preferences I have unchecked the box that says "New projects automatically generate previews"
    2. Under the option "Share Previews with iLife and iWork" I have selected "When quitting Aperture"
    3. Under the Library Actions menu (little gear icon in the Library bowser pane on the left) I have unchecked "Maintain Previews For Project" for all of my projects
    4. Under the Photos menu I have selected "Delete Previews for Library"
    5. Quit Aperture
    6. Open Mail app and compose an email. Then try to attach a photo from my Aperture library
    7. Proceed to notice that ALL OF MY APERTURE PICTURES STILL SHOW UP IN THE MEDIA BROWSER!
This is driving me crazy and I don't know why it's not working. There seem to be a number of users that are successfully managing their previews like this.
Am I doing something wrong or missing a step?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Frank,
    3. Under the Library Actions menu (little gear icon in the Library bowser pane on the left) I have unchecked "Maintain Previews For Project" for all of my projects
What did you have selected in the library when you unchecked this?
I had the particular project that I wanted to exclude selected.
    4. Under the Photos menu I have selected "Delete Previews for Library"
You selected all your images (or at least the ones you want to delete the previews for) before running this. correct?
    Yes I did.

  • Aperture email not working with Entourage

I'm running Aperture 3.4.3 and recently upgraded to Mt. Lion.  Suddenly, my email connection to Entourage is not working, and there appears to be no way to select Entourage as my preferred email application.  Any help, or is this a case of an "upgrade" actually being a "downgrade."  FRUSTRATED!

OOOOOps--hit the wrong link. THIS DID NOT REALLY SOLVE my problem.  Yes, Entourage runs just fine in Mt. Lion.  It is version 12.3.5. I'm guessing the issue has to do with the sandbox, whatever the heck that is.  Getting sick of having to update everything just to make it compatible with the new OS when it is otherwise working just fine.  I suppose that this kind of nickel and diming and constant need to upgrade is what keeps software companies in business....

  • Aperture will not work after snow leopard instalation,

    Hi,
I have avoided upgrading to Snow Leopard but my children bought me the upgrade for Christmas as they want me to use Face Time. So I did, now aperture will not open and it says contact the originators of the program. I am a pro photographer and all my current work is on Aperture and I have a wedding in two days time and so this is somewhat disturbing as all my post production in done in Aperture. Can anyone help me I have done all the software upgrades etc.....

Are your images files managed in the Aperture Library, or Referenced? Do you have an external disk drive in the configuration, and if so, is it formatted as Mac OS Extended?
If you hold down the Option key while clicking on the Aperture Icon in the Dock, do you get the dialogue that allows choosing between different Aperture Libraries, or even creating a New Library?

  • Apply one Keyword to multiple pictures in Aperture does not work for me

According to the Aperture Users Guide it should be very simple to apply one (or several) keywords to one or several pictures. In my case I can apply one or several keywords to ONE picture at a time. However, when I select a bunch of pictures and try to apply a keyword either using the Keywords HUD or the Keywords Control bar, the keyword gets only applied to the picture I move the keyword on-to. I can not apply the same keyword to many selected pictures at the same time. What am I doing wrong?
I select the group of pictures in the Browser and can clearly see that they are selected as they are highlighted. Then I grab the keyword I want to apply from the Keyword HUD and drag and drop it onto one of the selected pictures either in the Browser or the filmstrip window. But regardless of how I do it, only one picture shows the keyword in its Info panel.
    Thanks for any help ....
    Tahunga

That's exactly it !!! In fact, I have my Aperture libraries on an external drive so I can switch between my MacBook Air and my iMac. This morning I opened the pictures on my iMac and noticed that I did not experience the problem with the keywords. Now I am back on my laptop and checked for the "Primary Only", and yes, it was "on" on the laptop ... I simply turned it off and the problem is no longer ... Thanks for your help. Take a couple of Gold Stars for you.

  • Aperture 3 not working on brand new MBP???

Just tried to open Aperture 3 on my brand new MBP and I get this error message:
    Dyld Error Message:
      Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
      Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found.  Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
I downloaded A3 from the Mac Store, I've deleted it and re-installed and still get the same message. My MBP is running 10.6.8.
Any ideas, hope you can help.
    Thanks!

Hi, Thanks! The solution on the Macrumors forum worked! A plugin manager issue!
I've copied the solution below for anyone else who may run into the issue.
Turns out it's a simple fix.
For those with the same problem:
    1. Navigate to: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
    2. Delete the PluginManager
    3. Get a new copy of the PluginManager. (You can copy one from a friends macbook) or use the one hosted here: http://qvenon.com/files/PluginManager.zip
    Thanks again!

  • Tethering an Olympus to Aperture 3 not working

Looking at the Aperture 3 Manual regarding tethering it says :
"Note: For a list of cameras that Aperture supports for tethered shooting, go to http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html. See your camera’s manual for information about setting up your camera for tethered shooting."
So I did and my Olympus E3 camera is listed
I followed the process to get the Tether HUD displayed and the HUD says no camera recognized
If I look in the "About this Mac" item at the USB connections it shows that the camera has been recognized.
Has any one got this to work? or for any camera.
    Thanks for any info

I don't know why the manual would point you at that page, that's the list of supported files.
After a bit of searching on the Apple site, here's a list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1085
Note that the 'main' specs page for Aperture http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/ only mentions Nikon and Canon for tethering.

  • RAW Photos from Canon EOS 7d imported into Aperture still not working...

I have just purchased a new macbook pro with the most current operating system and have updated Aperture 2 to the most current version and my Canon EOS 7d RAW files are still showing up with a red box message "Unsupported File Format"......WHY ISN'T IT WORKING?! I've been waiting for months for this to work and finally they say it will work with the update and it it doesn't. And I read about the "~" issue and I checked and don't have that condition in any of my folders. PLEASE HELP!

In addition to the above comments, make sure you have run "Software Update" (if you're new to the Mac, click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner then select "Sofwtare Update..." from the pull-down menu).
The EOS 7D, being rather new, requires that you have +Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.7+ installed. This is an update to Mac OS X (not an update to Aperture.)
If unsure, open "System Preferences" -> "Software Update" -> "Installed Software" and view the list of updates to ensure that you specifically have that update already installed.
