Aperture library gets bigger when i delete photos?

I finally took some time to "spring clean" my aperture library, but after deleting a bunch of photos, my aperture-library grew from 136GB to 152 GB.
I don't get it.
Procedure:
Send photos from projects to aperture-trash
empty aperture trash
empty finder trash
badaboom +16BG
If i keep cleaning my HDD will be full in no time

The solution is to restore your iphone.
This is posted here every day.

    1) You asked "Does she need to reconnect to that itunes/computer and if so what do we need to do to remove this folder of pics from her ipod?" Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    2)
Create a NEW account for using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then on the iPod go to
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
    - Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
    - Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores.

Go to Settings - General - Usage and see which apps are taking up a lot of space.
In my experience, if you haven't cleaned out your Messages that is where a lot of space is consumed.

  • When i delete photos, they do not dissapear

I have been deleting photos in iPhoto to create more hard drive space, and they are still showing up as blank photo space instead of completely going away.
Any suggestions on how to delet completely?

Sounds like your Library is corrupted.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Why when i delete photos and movies do i not get the free space back on my hard drive?

I'm desparately trying to free up hard drive space.  I have deleted unwanted photos and videos, emptied iphoto trash, rebooted and emptied regular trash but there is no corresponding increase in available hard drive space!  Please help or the Mac gets it!!

If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.

  • Why do i get lines when i print photos from iphoto

does anyone know why i get lines across my photos when i print them from iphoto to my HP printer. Photos are ok when i print from iphone or other? seems to have something to do with Iphoto??

Go to your imports for the last 12 months then click on view>sort photos by date, that should group them together.  Click on the first picture in the group, then hold down your shift key then click on the last picture it should select all in between, then delete and empty trash.

  • Why when I delete photos (from disk) does it not clear space on my hard drive?

I went from 800  photos to 51 and my available HD space remains the same.  So in total I deleted about 750 20+MB files.  I should have more space free on my hard drive but there is nothing.  I make sure to choose "delete from disk" as opposed to just "remove" so I can't imagine the problem.  I even went back in and erased back ups in the lightroom folder wondering if maybe the images were hiding out there.  Deleting back up folders made nominal difference.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rob,
You are right. It was GB not MB.  I am sure the disk I am looking at is the correct one.  I go to the apple, about this mac, more info, storage.  Unfortunately I just hit empty trash over and over without looking to see if the files made it in.  It has always cleared space before so I assumed it would this time.  I do think they made it as I always heard the sound of the trash clearing but I did not actually look for the files first.
I did a lot of research yesterday as to what could be going on and found an article that said time machine backs up locally on my HD and if I want space I can disable that.  I found the folder with the back ups and saw there were many.  I followed the tutorial online and disabled the back ups and now the folder is gone so you would think- more space.  Not one single GB was returned.
I ended up erasing music and photos from iPhoto and a few movies and space cleared when I did those things.  Still wondering what happened and want the other space back.  750 raw files is a lot of space, or should be.
Wondering if there is some back up to the back up somewhere.....
Thanks for responding .. I will take all input I can get!

  • Why when I delete photos from iPhoto it deletes them from Flickr?

I find it unbelievably inconvenient. Can you help me to avoid it somehow, please?
I wanted to uploas all my photos to Flickr account and delete most of them from my MacBook, because I need some place for storage... But, I found out that my great plan has failed=(

The purpose of this article is to provide steps to delete pictures from iPhoto without changing the synced album in Flickr.
    1. Exit iPhoto and login to Flickr
    2. Change your Flickr password
Click on Settings - Password: Type a new Flickr password and click "Change Password" - make note of the changed password to avoid banging your head on the table later!
    3. Open iPhoto
    4. Click on a synced iPhoto/Flickr album
The following message window will appear:
"An error occurred with the publication of album "(NAME OF SYNCED ALBUM."
"Authentication with server failed. Please check your login and password information."
    5. Delete the album on iPhoto.
Delete the album, or albums of choice in iPhoto! Since iPhoto cannot sync to Facebook, your Facebook album will stay intact.
    6. Change your Password on Flickr
Either change password back to your previous one or keep the new password. This is up to you.
    7. Re-sync iPhoto with Flickr
iPhoto will not re-sync even if you change your Flickr password back to the previous password. You will need to re-sync.
The fastest way is to do this is to select one picture from your iPhoto library and click the Flickr icon like you would do to add photos to Facebook.
Choose whom you want the photos viewable by then click on the "Change Accounts" button.
Fill out the appropriate fields with your user email, your current Facebook password, and that picture will now sync with Flickr as a new album. Do whatever you want with this album in iPhoto (delete or keep).
All your current iPhoto albums are now re-synced with Flcikr! The deleted album is gone and will not sync which keeps the Flcikr album completely intact!
This is one workaround - there might be others. Again, until Apple solves this issue, this workaround works quite easily despite the tedious steps.

  • JPGs get bigger when saving

I copy a digital image from my Canon Rebel to my New Imac running OS Lion and Adobe CS5.
When I view the file size, it's 3 MB before I open or do anything to it.
I open it in Photoshop and run some filters on it and the size climbs to 16 MB after I save as JPG baseline quality 12.
If I again open that jpg (16MB) and apply "unsharp" mask"  6 more times and then save as JPG, baseline quality 12, the file size climbs to 20 MB on my mac.
Is this a bug? Does anyone else have this problem?
Re compressing in JPG used to alway get smaller, correct?
    Bob

    Your right Don!
I went to another Mac running 10.5.8 that I own with CS4 on it .
Sam thing happened. I was surprised how the file size climbed with each application of unsharp mask, but with blur or different other filters, the file size was reduced to nothing.
It was interesting to note that there is a limit to file growth using the "Unsharp mask".
After 20 applications of the unsharp filter, the picture quit sharpening (having reached it maximum radius, it could apply no more sharpening as the edges in the photo showed no more growth.... I guess) and the file size quit climbing at around 24 MB.
I thought maybe it was CS5 and OS Lion, but the same thing happens in OS Leopard and CS4.
    Thanks for confirming my results.

  • Why do objects get bigger when I copy and paste from one Keynote document to another?

I have 2 keynote presentation files open. I select some objects on one slide, apple-C to copy, go over to a blank slide in another file, and apple-V to paste. The item(s) get pasted but are much bigger - they take up way more of the new slide than they did for the old one.  What am I missing? Why can't I copy it with the same relative size it used to have?

Chances are that small file used to be a PowerPoint file - PowerPoint deals in inches instead of pixels (which blows my mind).
I would first convert the smaller file to a larger resolution - that should keep most of the scaling intact - and then copy and paste. In my opinion you'll probably have to re-polish your presentation once you've changed the resolution as some things will probably be a bit wonky.

  • IPhoto storage not disappearing when I delete photos! HELP

    Hi all,
My iPhone 4S only has 16 GB and I wanted more storage. I noticed that my photos app costs 2.1 GB so I decided to transfer my photos to my MacBook Air via iPhoto. I then deleted all of those photos on my iPhone. So I still had my photos but on my macbook instead of my phone. I assumed that my 2.1 GB on my photos app would disappear and would say like 0 GB used but it still stays at 2.1 GB being used in my photos app yet I deleted all my photos!!!
I hope somebody knows why this has happened or knows how to fix it.

Thanks everyone for their answers, I tried both you suggestions but still no luck. I then turned off photos in iCloud and it worked. Also it says in my usage...
used: 3.2 GB and available 9.5 GB, that adds up to 12.7 GB so... what about the rest of my 16 GB what happened to the other 3.3 GB?
    Thanks,

  • Iphoto 09 library getting bigger

After upgrading to iphoto 09, I found the iPhoto Library grow up, my actual pictures size is 2.9GB, but the Library is 5.7GB!
Is there anyway I can restore my precious disk space?

    sdx
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
the iPhoto library has always been larger than the sum of the photos in it - there are thumbnails, modified versions of some photos and database description and support files - the content and structure of the iPhoto library is critical to iPhoto and cannot be changed
You can look (don't touch) to see what is taking space - right click (control click) on the iPhoto library icon in the pictures folder and select show package contents - if you see anything in it that seems large (other than originals and possibly modified) report back
