Aperture Library is now 20% smaller after upgrading to 3...should it be??

After upgrading my Aperture library to Aperture 3 it went from 117GB to 91GB. Does that seem correct??? Number of images is correct? Anyone have the same experience??

Mine dropped from 246GB in AP2 to 190GB in Ap3.... same number of images 13510..... haven't managed to complete to reprocessing of images yet.... this may change it......

  • Why is aperture 3.4 crashing during import after upgrade?

After running a typical upgrade from Software update on my mac I have had the problem of importing files into Aperture.
Exactly what happened and equipment used.  Used SD 45mbs 16gb SD card to import RAW images after a shoot.  This has been working and tested the day before update.  Was prompted to update to Aperture 3.4 along with another update for OSX.  After reboot I launched Aperture and was prompted to update library.  Next SD card was inserted, pictures showed up as previews, all were selected and checked to import all.  Application crashes see below.
    What I have tired.
    removed application
    removed preference files
    reinstalled application
was prompted for upgrade of library
once done inserted SD to import files
Same issue files show up but they do not import and same report comes up
have attempted multiple SD cards with no resolve.
Able to use disk on another computer with no issue.
    Someone please help

What Aperture version are you running exactly? Aperture 3.4 or 3.4.1? The 3.4.1 update has some important bug fixes. If you did not install  the last update, I'd recommend to update.
Some posters had problems with the image capture preferences, after upgrading to 3.4, and that caused troubles during import. Try if removing the image capture preference files helps:
To remove the image capture preferences:
If Aperture is running, quit Aperture,  and log off and on again.
Open your user library from the Finder's Go menu: Hit Command Shift G (⌘⇧G) and then type in: ~/Library/Preferences/  then hit return.
In the window that opens remove "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist"
and look into the subfolder "ByHost": if there are files named com.apple.ImageCapture  something.plist  remove them too.
    then try again.

  • Get old Aperture library into iPhoto without need to upgrade Aperture first?

I've my photo libraries in an old Aperture format. I didn't upgrade to Aperture 3, because I didn't get a new Mac until recently. Now with Yosemite my old Aperture app can't be installed anymore (neither old iPhoto). So I've not an old Aperture library file which I'd like to import into the new iPhoto, but I get the dialog that I've to upgrade to Aperture 3 first.
Do I really have to purchase a $80 upgrade to get my pictures out of an old version of Aperture? I'd upgrade to Aperture 3 and continue using it if it wasn't already announced to be discontinued soon. But what to do until the new Photo.app is available some time in 2015, plus who knows whether the announced "will be able to import Aperture libraries" isn't also limited to Aperture 3+ versions?
You see my pickle?! I can't run old Aperture on Yosemite, I can't import my old Aperture library into the new iPhoto and Photo.app isn't available yet. What to do?
The option to run an old OS X via VMWare, import Aperture to old iPhoto and then upgrade to new iPhoto also seems a bit much work.
What I am looking for would essentially be a "Import Aperture 2 library into (new) iPhoto" script/tool/converter.
    Thanks,
    -H

    Crrect - as I said
you can get the original photos out by copying the masters folder and importing to iPhoto
And yes there is no good solution for switching from a outdated software package to a different up to date one - Aperture or pretty much any other software - iPhoto will update all old iPhoto libraries and Aperture will update all old Aperture libraries but iPhoto will not update old Apertue libraries nor will Aperture update old iPhoto libraries

  • Master files consolidated into Aperture library and now lost...

Aperture 3.1 appears to be doing strange things with a few of my master RAW files stored in the Aperture Library. I consolidated several files (as a copy) into the library and the files showed that they were non-referenced for several months but now I get the yellow triangle and "Referenced File" arrow on the file metadata.
    Any ideas Aperture folks?

I havent found an easier way. It happened to me once, and i just deleted all of the songs out of iTunes, but not out of my hard drive. then i replaced them all in the library. It took like 12 hours cuz i have 15 GB worth, but at least i didnt have any more doubles

  • I needed space on my hard drive and  it was suggested to clear the cache by restarting with shift held down.  My Aperture library is now missing...help please!

I needed space on my hard drive (iMac- as I do photography part time, and it was suggested to clear the cache by restarting and holding down the shift key.  Now most of my Aperture Library is missing and I had senior photos on there for friends....help please.
I heard that Aperture makes alias files when you are editing and that might be what is clogging up my hard drive.  I really don't know.

There is nothing that SHIFT reboot does to erase files. Have you restarted normally? It's quite possible that with a full drive you can't start nor can Aperture load its library file.
I don't know who gave you that advice but it's not a viable solution for a full drive:
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • After upgrading to Lion should I have tatty grey screen on opening with boxes for password user?

After upgrading to Lion on Wednesday last I now have a tatty grey screen on booting-up with the two boxes for user name and password.Gone is the old blue screen. Does anyone else have a grey opening screen?
Also this evening on booting the grey screen appeared but I could not immediately type any info into either box. After switching on/off several times I gave up and left the iMAC on with an inactive grey screen.About five minutes later the HP printer went through a re-calibration or cleaning process,of its own accord, and I noticed that the cursor on the screen had moved of its own accord.I then found that I could insert info into the two boxes and here I am with the iMAC open.Anone come across this issue?

    Hello again Gary,
After trying your PRAM suggestion, everything was OK however, when I restarted my iMac the next day, the same Grey Screen apppeared whith the request for user name and password?
This has repeated for the last 3 days!
I have tried the Utility to check the HD "Verify Disk Permissions" which shows a long list of "faults"? and I have done this twice now.
Also I have to do the PRAM start-up in order to get online and use other programs. I get frequent messages that say my "Applications" are for the wrong OS?
After using the PRAM keyboard start-up I get a screen with a "Bar" similar to the Windows XP start-up proocess and a grey blob moves along this "Bar" until the iMac starts.
On one site it mentioned that this iMac may need an "Firmware" update/correction; however I can not find any Firmware to download for this machine.
    My iMac is a 21.5" Model A1311.
Do I need to do a complete Format of the HDD and re-install Leopard and then try Lion again?
    Very frustrated,
    Maureen

  • Do Office 365 integration now (2003) or after upgrade (2012 R2)?

A client has Server 2003 Standard and are going to migrate to Office 365 very soon (from a hosted mail provider, POP). They are also due for a server upgrade, likely Server 2012 R2 Standard. To eliminate the hassle of managing two different systems for their
Windows accounts and email accounts I thought I'd run Federation Services for the Office 365 integration. The problem is they are still trying to find a way to budget for the server upgrade, so it's starting to look like I may have to integrate O365 with 2003
    instead of 2012 R2.
I assume its better to integrate Office 365 with 2012 R2 than 2003. If so, why?
If I do integrate with 2003, what type of issues can I expect when I finally upgrade to 2012 R2 (i.e., link between AD or federation services and O365 break, can't manage email from Server 2012 R2 dashboard because feature wasn't available in 2003)?

The most important question is, "Does your client currently use Exchange 2003?" Next question is, "Are they planning on running a hybrid Exchange setup?" Information about the current server(s) and its/their role(s) would be good to know too.
At our workplace, We had a 2003/2008/2008 R2 server cluster, with one of the 2003's running Exchange 2003 with 500 mailboxes. If I had known then what I know now, I would have run a cutover migration ASAP. Our AD wasn't current in the Users and Computers
section, so we thought we'd save money by cleaning up the directory, then run a hybrid with the complimentary version of Exchange 2010 that comes with O365 E3. After a while we realized that there were no real advantages for our company to run the hybrid,
so we decided on a cutover. During that conversation, our Exchange server died. We went online with a CSV dump of the AD, archived the old database, and imported PST's on demand.
I take it since your client is strapped for cash, the won't be doling out for Exchange 2010 or 2013. You may also know by now that Exchange 2003
will not run on any edition of Server 2008 or 2012, so they're going to have to drop it.
So, the gameplan I propose to you is this:
    1) If you have less that 1,000 mailboxes, run a cutover migration ASAP. If you have unused accounts, clean them out after you make the migration and cancel them in the pricing. The web panel is really easy to use, and the Powershell module is great too.
2a) When (or if) the client is able to acquire 12R2, check the DC first. Some companies have internal domains named "domain" or "company.local". If they plan to do AD Synchronization (I guess for Single Sign-On), that's not going to work. The FQDN must be
mapable to a top-level Internet domain (e.g. .com, .org, .net), and they may have to create a new domain (or even forest) to become compliant. Check this now, and factor it into your pricing.
2b) If 2a is an issue, you may have to install 12 on a separate machine/VM because two forests can't reside on one DC (security issues). If not, upgrade the DC.
3)Run the AD check to make sure the domain is good for synchronization, then sync.
4)It is highly recommended that you do not run federation services on a domain controller, because that would expose it to web traffic. See: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc778681(WS.10).aspx . If possible, run it on a separate machine. 12 Standard
comes with two licenses for 12 running on a Hyper-V host, so you may consider that if the hardware permits. Keep in mind there can be issues with running a domain controller on a virtual machine (I do, and while I know it's not the most secure setup in the
world, most of our firewalling is done at the hardware level). Decide on how you want to situate FS, then bring it online. Recommended practice is to have it in a DMZ, and of course you shouldn't put a DC there.
    5) Make sure your certs are good (you have to use a separate subdomain [e.g. fs.company.com] for FS than the internal one), then activate FS. Remember that certificates costs money, but you should only need a domain validation one.
Truth be told, I wouldn't recommend FS for a client that can't afford Server 12. Sit down with them and ask for concrete examples of what they presently do and what they are trying to do. Also ask them if they have the staff to maintain an Active Directory
that is bound to O365 (probably not). During this talk, do not use words like "sync" and "cloud"; they are buzzwords that are certainly misguiding the decision makers. You do not need to have federation in order to use OneDrive with your desktop Excel or to
"access your files from anywhere". If they start to do a lot of SaaS in the future, then they may want to reconsider.
Final Note: Don't bother doing anything with 2003 if you can avoid it. Scrap it as soon as you can. Microsoft ended support for it on the 8th, and O365 support isn't going to help you with it when you eventually need to call (and you will).

  • Can I now delete iPhoto after upgrading to Photos

I have upgraded to photos synced everything across iCloud and everything seems to be fine.
I have a migrated library showing in iPhoto
showing a size of 43gb. I know it is not this size but is it safe to delete the iPhoto library. And also can I delete the iPhoto app its nearly 2gb

    Do not delete iPhoto!
Remember, we now live in the world of downloaded software. Programs can get removed or changed and you have no ability to reinstall later. In fact this has already happened with iPhoto.  You can still buy older versions of iPhoto sold on disk but not the current (download only) versions.

  • Printer output incorrect/too small after upgrading to VS 2010 Crystal

I have a Windows Form application that was originally written using .net 3.5 and the version of Crystal Reports that came with Visual Studio 2008. When the VS 2010 release of Crystal Reports came out, I upgraded the application to .net 4/VS 2010 and the new Crystal release.
This application prints checks on blank check stock, so alignment of the output has to be very exact to print the checks correctly. It prints the reports using the PrintToPrinter() method of the ReportDocument class.
In the original version of the program, I had everything aligned correctly in the check report. After updating the application to the latest Crystal release, but making no changes to the report itself, I noticed that the alignment of the checks report was incorrect.
After comparing the output, I was able to determine that the new output is slightly shrunk compared to old output, almost as if it is scaling the report in some way.
I opened the report in the new report designer and verified that all page size and margin settings were correct/the same as before, and they were. The printed output is smaller than it should be based on how the report is designed. I tried adjusted the paper size, and also tried the "Dissociate Formatting Page Size and Printer Paper Size" to see if I could somehow adjust for the scaling, but nothing I tried was successful.
Our check printer is a HP LaserJet 5Si. During my investigation into the problem I discovered that if I printed the report to a pdf printer (PDFCreator) the resulting pdf did not have the same scaling/shrinking problem that I get when the report is sent directly to the LaserJet. I also printed a page from the pdf to the LaserJet using Acrobat Reader, and the output was as I expected it to be.
I only seem to be seeing the scaling/shrinking problem when I send the report directly to the LaserJet. Is there some new setting that I'm overlooking that would be applying some sort of report-wide scaling? Any other ideas as to why this is happening?

Looking for HP LaserJet 5Si at the HP website:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25478&taskId=135
I notice that there are several different types (hm, mx, nx, ...). Also, there are different drivers, depending on the OS.
Ensure that you are using the correct driver (hm, mx, nx, ...) for your printer and for your OS and that the driver has the latest updates from HP.

  • Says my library.itl file is locked after upgrade?

hi there.. i am hoping someone can help me, i had to format comp due to virus, so i reinstalled windows (xp home) and installed itunes from the original ipod disk, all went well, imported all my music back into the library and so far so good.. i then upgrade itunes by following prompts set in the program... installs fine, so no prob with mcafee firewall or virus protection, but when i try to open itunes after install i get a message saying:
the itunes music library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file.
please help me!! i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes no prob, in itunes 4. something it all works fine, but as soon as i upgrade i am locked out.
thanks in advance!! i would be much appreciative of any tips to help figure this prob out...
    pentium4   Windows XP

Your libary.itl probably got locked by McAfee and never got saved properly during the virus incident/debacle.
    - Stop itunes
    - Delete C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
    -Start iTunes
You are totally going to lose all your ratings and other great stuff from your previous iTunes, but I don't know what else would fix it.
When you restart iTunes, it will rebuild your ITL file, since you deleted it.
What are the iTunes library files?

  • Table index size in DB02 smaller after upgrade

SAP ERP 6.0, DB2 9.5, AIX 5.3.  After we upgraded to SPS 15 / EHP4 / Netweaver EHP1 SPS02 using the downtime minimized method (shadow instance created) the index sizes for the tables are showing reduced sizes. When looking in DB02 under  History -> "tables and indexes" all the tables show a drop in index sizes.   I have compared the indexes to a pre upgrade copy of the system and all the indexes are still defined and active in the upgrades system.  Can somebody please explain why the size drop?  Is this a reporting error or what?

    Hi Eddie,
DB2 V8.2 did not allow to retrieve table/index size information from DB2 directly. Therefore the SAP DB2 database interface and the CCMS code tried to do some size estimation based on cardinality and table/index width. DB2 V9.1+ provides table function ADMIN_GET_TAB_INFO to retrieve size information directly from DB2. Since this size information is much more accurate the SAP DB2 database interface and the CCMS code have been changed to use this table function.
So the phantom-"shrink" you observed may be related to the switch from size estimation to the size retrieved from ADMIN_GET_TAB_INFO . This may have happened directly after the V9.5 upgrade ( size retrieved differently in SAP DB2 database interface ) or after the SAP release upgrade ( change in CCMS ABAP coding ).

  • Open link from email now takes 60s after upgrade to 14.0.1

Firefox has been set as my default browser and so will open links from emails. In the past this happened pretty quickly providing I already had FF running. Now, after the 14.0.1 update, a new FF window opens (irritating but can live with that). Then there is a 60s wait before the page opens (a timeout somewhere?). It seems to be independent of the site visited (I checked with my own site among others as it is nice and simple). I also get the long delay if I ask the mailer to open the email in a browser (for messages containing HTML). The same sites open quickly if I simply type the URL on a run command line.
I'm running Windows XP sevice pack 3. My mailer is Pegasus 4.4.1 (admittedly a bit out of the mainstream!). Perhaps someone could suggest an additional test to narrow down and then hopefully solve the problem. I've had to make IE my default browser for now as I often use a browser for messages containing HTML.
    TIA

Thanks, but safe mode does not alter the behaviour and I've only ever had the default theme.
The delay really is pretty much exactly 60s. Surely this is something timing out. Is that not an important clue?

  • Can not find a library in Aperture after upgrading to Mavericks?

I upgraded my Aperture to 3.5 on Mavericks. Since I have updated my Aperture, I cannot open my second Library "Aperture Library"
    This is what it happens:
I can not find my "Aperture Library" photos, and when I try to switch between the library (File>Switch Libaries>"Aperture Library" this comes up:
When I click on relaunch:Then when I click on "Aperture Library" and press chose, a 3 second process occurs and Aperture returns back to where it was when it was opened. The "Aperture Library" doesn't appear anywhere.
When I go to Altinoz (My Mac) > Pictures > Aperture Library:
When I try to open the Aperture Library folder in My Mac > Pictures > Aperture Library
Do you want to import this library to Aperture (which was already in the old verison of Aperture)
    An error comes up:
The library could not be imported because it is from an out of date version of Aperture 3. Please upgrade the library to the latest version of Aperture 3 and try again.
I would really appreciate your help on helping me find "Aperture Library" Photos I have, since the upgrading to Mavericks really made annoying problems to me.

It seems to me that you need Aperture 3.2.4 to open your library.
If you have it then do the following:
    Uninstall Aperture 3.5
    Install Aperture 3.2.4
Start Aperture and verify that you can access your library
    Update to Aperture 3.4.5
Start Aperture and verify that you can access your library
At the end update to Aperture 3.5 and upgrade your library
If you don't have the older versions, maybe try to open the library in iPhoto. Does that work?
