Aperture & Lion not recognizing Canon 1D Mark IV videos

Upgraded the 17" MBP i7 to Lion.
When I import 1D Mark IV photos and videos from a CF card, it takes forever if there are videos on the card. It's fine if there's not. And when the videos come in to Aperture, they're not recognized as video files (even though they're .MOV files). Quicktime Player plays them fine.
Did 10.7 nuke something from Canon that I have to re-install?

The issue seems to be that /Library/Quicktime had a lot of outdated Quicktime stuff. I noticed QT is now mostly in /System/Library/Quicktime, so I deleted everything in /Library/Quicktime and now it seems to work.

  • CS6/ACR 7.x not recognizing Canon 5d Mark 3 files previously edited in same version. Help?

Why are my previously edited canon 5d mark 3 raw xmp files no longer recognized and all sliders set to zero? I can see the xmp files associated with the raw file in their folder. The files were originally edited in CS6/ACR 7.x -in July 2012 - and recently re-opened in the same CS6/ACR 7.x.
The canon 5d mark 2 files from the same time/event are showing up fine. I have updated everything, but both before and after the update, same issue with the Mark 3 files.
    On a side note:
We have found that opening mark 2 files (that were originally edited in CS4 / ACR 5.7) in CS 6 / ACR 7.x and making any changes such as color coding causes all previous xmp information being zero'd out in the mark 2 xmp file. Not sure if this is a symptom of the same problem? Except the difference here is the Mark 3 files have never been touched outside of version CS6/ACR7.x - however the folder which holds both mark 2 & mark 3 files from the same event has been opened in the CS4 / ACR 5.7 window but without touching the files. By opening the folder in CS4 I can see that the Mark 3 files aren't reading and then know this event was originally edited in CS6/ACR 7.x
    Specifics:
    PS CS6 13.0.4 x64
    Mac OSX 10.6.8
Canon 5d Mark 3 Raw files
This is the first time in these circumsances that this issue has presented itself.
Any insight would be much appreciated
    Thank you!

First check to make sure your view mode in ACR is set to Image Settings, not Camera Raw Defaults.  This is accessible as the top item or three in the menu that comes up when you click the little threelines-arrow icon at the right of the tabs title bar, for example to the right of the word Basic.
Otherwise, did you switch your Camera Raw settings location to be the central database instead of XMP files and/or are you on a different computer that might have a different metadata storage location?
Open up one of the XMP files in a text editor, perhaps one that hasn’t had a picture opened for it, recently, yet, and see if you see any non-zero settings.  Also take note of the last file creation time.  This will help determine if the XMP files, themselves, have been written with ACR defaults or if they are just being ignored.
Also, check the date and timestamps of a CR2 and XMP file that hasn’t been opened, recently, and see if the XMP date/time is before the CR2 date/time.  There has been a bug, not sure in LR or PS, where if the XMP file date is BEFORE the raw-file date, then the XMP is ignored so maybe that could be happening.  If it is a LR bug, then have the files been edited in LR, which might have ignored the XMP files and the rewritten things with the LR default settings?
If no explanation can be found on your side, can you zip up a raw and its corresponding XMP, preferably one that’s not been looked at, recently, then put them online somewhere like http://www.dropbox.com/ and reply with the public download link, so others can take a look?
What version of Camera Raw are you using?  ACXR 7.4 just came out this week.

  • Aperture not recognizing Canon G-10 RAW Files?

All of a sudden Aperture is not recognizing my G-10 RAW files. It did yesterday, but not today. I just downloaded the new aperture update thinking that might change things, but no go. Just says "unsupported file format"
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Shane

What is your import workflow? Are you (appropriately) uploading images first to the hard drive before importing into Aperture? Was the card (appropriately) reformatted in-camera before shooting the new batch of pix?
Direct camera-to-Aperture or card-to-Aperture workflows can be problematic, as can using the computer for erasing card images or reformatting cards.

CS-4 will not open Canon 5D Mark III Raw. Is there a fix?

You would need CS5 or 6 to open raw image.
Your only option is to upgrade to CS6 or convert images to DNG.
If you choose DNG download the free latest version.

  • Aperture / iPhoto not recognizing CR2 Canon Raw anymore

    hello all,
ive been using lightroom to manage my photos which are a CR2 Canon Raw from my Canon 5D Mark II. I recently decided to try out aperture and see if id like it better since i do use iPhoto to manage all of my simple little snapshots from my point n shoot. iPhoto seemed to be working with my raw format images but i recently updated my cameras firmware to 1.0.7 from 1.0.5 and iPhoto will no longer recognize the format. I think i had the camera raw 2.4 update but i went on the apple site and got 2.5 and reinstalled it just in case and my camera is in the listed ones supported but now i get the same error in iPhoto and in Aperture but lightroom can still import them. Is anyone else experiencing this or have a possible solution to it?
    Thanks.

ive discovered the problem. my camera can shoot raw in 3 different resolutions and iphoto / aperture will only accept the original highest quality raw (which is 21mp) so there must be some slight difference in the other size formats. this needs to be fixed apple since i shoot a lot of random photos in a raw format at a smaller resolution. it works in lightroom.

  • Camera Raw 7 does not recognize Canon 5D Mark III RAW files

    Hello,
I have Adobe Creative Cloud installed and I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 with Camera Raw 7. Photoshop nur Bridge CS6 do not recognize the RAW files from the Canon 5D Mark III, though it says on the Adobe support site that the camera is supported since Camera Raw 6.7
When I try to open the .cr2-File I get the message "Photoshop cannot open the file".
    I use Win7 (64 Bit).
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
Its a known issue as the PS CS 6 was launched with ACR 7 however the support in Photoshop CS 6 would come with ACR 7.1 update which will be live soon.
You are completely right in saying that Canon 5D Mark III was supported in ACR 6.7 but it was only intended for >PS CS 5 & 5.1.
In the meanwhile if you want you can download the RC version of ACR 7.1 from labs.adobe.com.
    Thanks

  • LR 4.2 not recognizing Canon 5D MK III files

I have LR 4.2 installed. I just tried to import my 5D MK III images for the first time and is gave me a camera not recognized (409) error. From what I can see the 5 MK III was supposed to be supported from 4.1 on. Did the tether fix in 4.2 break the native image support? If not, does anyone have 4.2 installed that does recognize MK III files (within the past week)? I ran the update check and it reported that I had the latest version installed and no updates were available.
    Thanks

Lightroom 4.2 should have no problems recognising and importing Canon 5DMk3 files. Actually, I imported around 200 such files late last night. So, there is something else going on with your installation. Have you tried deleting the Lr preference file ? More info where it's located can be found at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0

  • MBA 11" not recognizing Canon camera

My Canon S95 camera is recognized normally on my home iMac and iPhoto opens. However, I am now traveling in Europe with my new MacBook Air 11" and find that camera is not recognized and does not appear on USB device list under Sys Profiler. Have tried resetting SMC and NVPR.
No other problems with camera or MBA.

I have no problem with my S95 and 11" MBA. Could the problem be with the camera's memory card (I use sandisk)?

  • Iphoto not recognizing Canon raw files even after latest update

I have a Canon 5D MkII and the camera was listed in the last iPhoto update as one of the cameras that iPhoto will allow camera raw downloads with. It gets about 3/4 the way through my downloads and just freezes the whole computer to where I have to power off to reboot. Then it wil come up with a box that says the raw files are unreadable or unrecognized. Very frustrated. Help please!

If you want to shoot RAW, you better forget about iPhoto and start using an application that's been designed for that purpose like Aperture, Lightroom or even Canon DPP.
iPhoto sort of handles RAW files since the support is built-in to the OS, but its tools are inadequate at best.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 not recognizing Canon devices for capture

I have used Premiere elements 2.0, no problem.  Now with CS3 in the capture video panel it says "device offline".  I can capture using windows movie maker, not sure why not my Canon GL2 or my XL2 for that matter, I've tried them both.  I am using windows xp.

First, does XP recognize the camera(s), when attached by IEEE1394 and turned on? If yes, we'll get to that. If no, then you likely have a problem with either your IEEE1394 controller, XP, or with the camera(s). With it plugged in and turned on, go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager and see if it appears there, and if there are error messages.
If your XP does recognize the camera, you might try these little "tricks" gathered by Jim Simon:
1.) Plug in the camera, but do not turn it on. Launch PrPro and choose Capture. Turn on camera.
2.) Plug in the camera, but do not turn it on. Launch PrPro, but do not choose Capture yet. Now, turn on camera and then choose Capture.
3.) Plug in the camera, and turn it on. Launch PrPro and choose Capture.
4.) Any other variations of these that you can think of.
It seems that different cameras behave differently, so you may have to experiment to see if one proceedure works for you.
If none of this works, and XP sees the camera(s) correctly, then I am out of ideas.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • TouchSmart not recognizing Hi8 Camcorder for home video capture.

To capture home videos on my computer, I am using a firewire-to-USB cable to connect a Hi8 Canon video camera to an HP TouchSmart 600-1100 PC running Windows 7. The computer is not recognizing the device. I can't tell if I have a IEEE 1394 device installed (not listed in my device manager) and i don't see any firewire port, only 2 USBs.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Firstly, nowadays nearly all new Windows computers don't have Firewire port(s). And secondly the Firewire-to-USB cable alone will never work. You need a converter or a hub which is designed to do a conversion work. Firewire and USB are both digitals but two different ways to transfer data. The following hub is one example:

  • Help needed: Canon 5D Mark II video to Apple TV conversion

I'm new to Apple TV and would appreciate any advice.
I have been taking Full HD video 1920 x 1080 using my Canon 5D Mark II. Would like to play these files through Apple TV. What do I need to do? Do I need any conversion tool? If so, any recommendation?
    Thanks in advance!

Just picked up a 5D II myself, having waited for what seemed like an eternity for a 5D replacement.
You have 2 options for video on the 5D II
    SD - 4:3 at 640x480
    HD - 16:9 at 1080p 30fps
Both are encoded as h264, but even the SD seems to have far too high a bitrate for AppleTV in my limited tests so far.
Neither format will play without conversion - the 1080p 30fps is beyond AppleTV spec so you will have to convert it to 720p at 24/25fps or less (max it handles in theory) but that changes the frame rate which is not ideal so you may be better going for 960x540 at 30 fps. Both have bitrates which are too high - you need a max of 5Mbps for AppleTV. Both record audio as mono WAVs (unless you connect an external mic) so you need to convert the audio track to AAC at 160kbps or less, don't change the sample rate.
I've not had much time to play but have done a couple of conversions in QT Pro and others direct in iTunes - too early to comment on quality of conversions yet - as I'm sure you've found doing manual focus can be quite hard while looking at live view and will take some practice.

  • How do you guys reduce noise in Canon 5d mark II video?

I am really interested to know if anybody could give me leads on how to reduce noise in 5d mark II videos. First off - Canon 5d mark II stock HD bitrate is not really nice. Even shooting in day time I have color noise and a lot of noise in shadow areas. Its only after I played with ML 2.3 and tried to shoot 1080p vid on CBR 1.4x mode (thats the maximum bitrate supported by my present CF card but planning to buy a new one).
How do you guys deal with it?

Tests have been done that show ISO settings in multiples of 160 produce the least amount of noise on video. Starting at 160 the 5Dmkii produces less noise than even at lower ISO settings of even 100 ISO.   160, 320, 480(500), 640 and so on. If you need ISO settings of a lot higher and the noise becomes obvious there is video noise reduction software that could help.

  • Device not recognized (NEW KIND OF PB) (Video Blaster Webcam 5)

    Hello
I have a Dell Optiplex GX0, Pentium-3 730MHz, 384 SDRam, 2 USB ports, Win XP pro SP2. All are fully operational. Newest Creative Webcam driver (2002 for xp, something like that)
My webcam 5 was ok until this morning
    the day before yesterday: ok
yesterday : ok ----------- and then I installed Active Webcam 7.6 (webcam CCTV software)?I configure, etc. It works.
    this morning: ok ---I change some configs :gain / frequence Hz / via the Creative config sofware, it's ok?----------then I use Active Webcam 7.6 : I change the frame rate configuration of this programm (5 +"apply", then 20 +"apply", then 5 +"apply" , 0 +"apply" ) It's okay agin?
In the end I decide to set?5 frames/second, AND THEN......BUG!!!!!!!!!!!Active Webcam 7.6?totally freezes so I kill the process via ctrl+alt+suppr
Even the Creative config sofware freezes when I want starting it. well, I kill it too.
I reboot, AND THEN.......crap.... I see the usb icon on the tray of the task bar?saying "DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" ......and the device manager of the system panel does not show my webcam 5 any longer.
........well nothing very annoying, I thought, it is worth rebooting, re-install creative software/driver with new/old versions, seeing some topics on forums etc...
NOTHING, I re-intall, plug-unplug before or after (re)installation, verify USB status via the device manager (it says ok, except for the "not recognized device" http://forums.creative.com/i/smilies...miley-wink.gif and via the BIOS (already switch on).
Can you help me please?Thank you for your advice !

Mmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmm? After many many attempt of pluggin/unpluggin, I achieve to detect and keep my webcam detected. It is working a little bit...... I mean everything is ok, but when I attempt to reach the "source" option of Creative Webcam Control, this programm freezes and the webcam LED becomes switched on for an unlimited period. The only way escape it is to plug/unplug again several time. I HAVE AN ANSWERABLE QUESTION NOW?: :smileyvery-happy:--How can I reset my "source" and other options of Creative Webcam Control in order to get the original automatic producer settings ? --Moreover, I fear the register still definitely keep a trace of my old/bugging settings (that's why I get problems even though I re-install). How can I erase Creative Webcam 5 settings and Creative Webcam Control settings in the register, before properly re-installing my new drivers+programs ? Ps : should I keep the old driver, or take the xp whql driver ? (the new driver might be a source of problem ?)
