Aperture looses contact with masters imported in Library

I working with aperture 3 and since a couple of month aperture loses contact with imported master/pictures. At first I thought it was because i left the originals/masters in my time machine. But recently i imported pictures in my aperture library. Opening aperture now aperture says my pictures are not on line so I can't control my metadata. Please give me some clue or help to tell me what I do wrong

Hi Dick.  Can't say from the information you've provided.  This line, though, gives me fibrillations:

What have you been doing?  Where, exactly, are your Images' Masters stored?  What volume is reported when you right-click an Image with an off-line Master and execute "Show in Finder"?  What path is shown at the top of the dialog when you select an Image with an off-line Master and execute "File→Locate Referenced Master ... "?

  • Aperture loose link with Referenced Masters

I just upgraded to Aperture 2 and spent days organizing and creating an elaborate library of referenced files. The masters were placed on an external HD via FW 800. Things were working perfectly until I launched Aperture and there was no sign of my library. Aperture looked brand new with an empty library other than the sample images from the Installation Disc.
If I go to Aperture Preferences it is correct is pointing to the attached external disc where I have my masters stored. Fortunately, when I look on my external HD the images are still there. The Aperture application just won't recognize the files on the external HD.
This is very frustrating as I spent days creating this elaborate organization.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Really dumb question. Where is the actual Aperture Library located? Do you have more than one Aperture Libraries? In other words, Aperture Library on your internal and external drives.
If so, just start Aperture by double clicking the external drive Aperture Library where you store the referenced master files. Or do what I do, is to have the Aperture Library on my internal drive and all of my image master files on an external drive.
    Hope this helps...

  • Aperture Losing Connection With Masters

    Hi,
I've been using iPhoto since the beginning and started noticing over the past year it would lose connections with the master files.  Thankfully I had backups of each file.  So I decided to start rebuilding my library in Aperture from scratch (figured start clean and all).  I started importing files and adding metadata and keywords.  I didn't get far (literally a day or two) before I realized that Aperture started losing conncetions with the Master files as well.
How I found out is that I used a software called HoudahGeo to geotag some old photos and it gave me the warning that it couldn't find the master files.  When I went back to Aperture I clicked on the image and noticed that the "Show in Finder" option was grayed out.   I went into the Aperture library itself (because I was having it keep on the images inside the library and not referenced) and noticed that the files were there in the "Masters" folder but Aperture was saying it was missing.  When I tried to relocate the original it fixed the one image but then started to break connections with other files and images.  I notice it had randomly last connection with different files in different albums.
At this point I'm not sure what to do since I've had this problem with both iPhoto and Aperture.  Thankfully I didn't get far before I realized this problem but I was really hoping to use Aperture for all my photos but it makes me worried that it'll lose images like that.  I don't want images to get deleted or lost.
Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?  I sent feedback to Apple so hoping it's a bug they can fix.  I'm currently using Mavericks and Aperture 3.5.1.
    Thanks!

How I found out is that I used a software called HoudahGeo to geotag some old photos and it gave me the warning that it couldn't find the master files.  When I went back to Aperture I clicked on the image and noticed that the "Show in Finder" option was grayed out.
I thought your Aperture library is managed? iPhoto will show the originals for managed images, but not Aperture. "Show in Finder" will be grayed out, if the images is in the Aperture Library package. That does not indicate that Aperture has lost the connection. Broken arrow badges indicate lost originals.
But the problem wasn't HoudahGeo accessing my masters but notifying me that Aperture lost them.  Because when I went back to into Aperture I noticed the original files were missing.
What exacty did you see in Aperture, that the orignals are missing? Badges with broken arrows?
I went into the Aperture library itself (because I was having it keep on the images inside the library and not referenced) and noticed that the files were there in the "Masters" folder but Aperture was saying it was missing.  When I tried to relocate the original it fixed the one image but then started to break connections with other files and images.
This cannot be - are you saying, Aperture did relocate an original file, that it reported as missing?
The forum software seems to be working again today, so we could start again to try to get to the roots of your puzzling problem.
Or have you solved it by now? Then let us know please.

  • How do I move a Project with Masters from one Library to another?

I tried to file > Export the Project as a Version, also as Original and finally as a Library to my Desktop.
Then, I opened the receiving Library, the folder > Import . . . the Folder on the Desktop shows as empty and it is not empty.
    Any suggestions?

You need to export the project using
File > Export > Project as new Library
    and in the receiving library
         File > Import > Library
at least in Aperture 3.x.x. - what is your Aperture version?

  • ADF looses contact with BackingBean - 11G

I've a table component. For each row - i have 4 buttons -all binded to a backingbean.
If I do an update/refresh in IE - All the buttons stop working. It's like the ADF form loose the contact to the backingbean. I've tried different bean settings session, application, request aso. - nothing helps.
If I don't do and update or refresh - all works fine....
The logs says something like this:
    22-09-2009 09:15:50 oracle.adf.share.jndi.MDSBackingStore isReadOnlyMDSStore
    INFO: Read only backing store
Is there some kind of bean cache?

    Hi Henrik,
I think that the "Read only backing store" has nothing to do with your problem as in JDeveloper 11g it appears every time WebLogic starts an application.
All the buttons stop working. What does that mean? You get an exception or your methods are not called or the event is not processed at client side?
(If the latter one is the case, check your custom JavaScripts and af:clientListener configurations etc., because for example an invalid clientListener could prevent an entire table from working.)

  • Aperture has lost the masters in my library,

I'm not aware I've done anything to lose them but they appear lost, where have they gone and how do I get them back?
This is very traumatic, I do havebackups of most but not all.
    Thanks
    Paula

I'd start by running the steps shown in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics
How do you know that the masters are not referenced?   If they are managed they should be i the Aperture library. If they are in a folder on the desktop that would seem to indicate that they are referenced.
Do the troubleshooting steps and post back if that doesn't fix the problem.
    good luck

  • Aperture slowed computer down when importing large library

Hi, I recently imported 47,000 photo's into Aperture 2 from Iphoto. The entire process took several hours but when it was importing, my computer slowed down to a crawl. My browser took a while to open, Iphoto was slow to open and just about any program took much longer to load. Any task took much longer. I kept seeing the spinning ball when using Aperture. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be concerned? Any info is greatly appreciated

Not at all. Aperture's just using all the computer's resources as importing 47,000 photos is a very processor intensive job. Once it's done, all should be back to normal.
If it's still running slow after they've all been imported and all the thumbnails/previews have been made, then that's a bit odd.

  • Loosing battery with photo import -solution question

If I download one 512MB to the ipod video(G5) it chews up about 60% of the battery. Does any one know if this would work
Connect the ipod to the camera adapter
connect a USB splitter (male to 2 females) to camera adapter
Connect one female to camera and the other female to an AC adapter (using a male to male cable)
Would I then be able to get juice to the ipod while downloading photos without the use of a computer. (I travel frequently)
    Thanx---Xtian

You shouldn't need to use a power splitter on your iPod while importing photos... I wouldn't really recommend it, either. I use the camera connector with my iPod, and yes, it does seem to eat the battery during the import, but after the import is done (according to the battery indicator) it seems to get some power back. I know I'm probably stating this incorrectly in regards to what is actually happening with the battery; the cause is most likely just that the battery indicator on the iPod isn't 100% accurate.
Just thought I'd let you know what my experience is.

  • Keeping contact with controlling applet while u/l XML file via servlet

    Hello everybody,
if I am thinking too complicated, please send me other suggestions. Here's the situation:
I already have a working applet for a metadata application, that is sending the contents of the client's textfields to a remote database via servlet communication. Now I want to implement the following:
-The users have some attribute data in form of an XML file
-I want them to upload this file to the server (I already have that functionality using the fileUpload libraries of Apache Commons) by calling the servlet from a pop-up html page (is there any other possibility to do the communication, i.e. getting files from the file system?)
-the XML file should be parsed on the server and the content should be sent back to the calling applet for previewing reasons.
-when the user gives his/her O.K. the data should be transferred to the database.
Now there are some obstacles to overcome: When I upload the XML file to the server, I loose "contact" with the applet, i.e. the file is not connected with the applet code in any way. This is not a problem, when there is only one user at the time, but with many users loading up their data at the same time, things could get tricky.
What I thought was to copy the XML file to a temp directory with a unique name, the name of which would be transferred back to the applet by another servlet that is called when the (upload)pop-up window closes. The name of the temp directory could be the ID of the applet thread (is there such an ID, if yes, how can it be retrieved?)
Any suggestions (or just shaking heads concerning my complicated construction ;-) )
Cheers and many thanks in advance
    Jan

You may be able to read a file from the file system with the applet, but it may require you to sign the applet. If you can, then use an HttpURLConnection to the servlet and send the file that way.
On the server side, you could create a session object (wether you actually need a session or not), and use the session's id as the key id for the directory name for the uploaded file. Session IDs are unique per client, and if the client handles cookies, then the same session will be used from one request to the next.
      session = request.getSession();
String sessionID = session.getId();The response from the servlet would be a link to the server-side file. If you are using the Applet to send the request, you could get the response and automatically view the new file. Otherwise, you could send a page to the popup window saying: "Click This Link To See Your File" type of thing.

  • Why does bluetooth loose contact?

Magic trackpad looses contact with computer, usually after changing account. Needs to be rebooted to continue.
When it happens may not be able to get connection with magic mouse either. Is this a hardware problem?

Why do you think it doesn't work?
To what are you trying to connect?
Bluetooth is supported for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone devies, some keyboards, some apps, and internet tethering if provided by the carrier.
Other than this it will not connect to computers or phones.

  • Problems importing iPhoto library into Aperture 3

When I got my mac, I imported a collection of images on an external drive into iPhoto, and worked with them there. I also imported images from memory cards directly into iPhoto.
During the original import, I selected the "leave files in place" option. For the direct imports from memory cards, I just imported them. I didn't realize that it would bundle everything into a single file when I did that, and I wasn't expecting what I ran into next...
I finally purchased a copy of Aperture 3 for its more powerful tools and smoother workflow. After installing it, I imported my iPhoto library into it, with the leave in place option... and found that Aperture couldn't load most of the images. It shows placeholder frames instead.
I have tried reconnecting the masters, to no avail; their paths are correct, so they're not changing, and Aperture insists that the masters are missing before and after.
I tried repairing the database with the database first aid tool, and it had no effect.
I tried rebuilding the database, and the result was disastrous; after that I had *no* images in Aperture. None. Even the few that I'd imported directly from media into Aperture were gone.
So I restored my Aperture database from my TimeMachine backup which impressed me with how easy it was, and now I'm back where I started... most of the images imported from iPhoto are inaccessible in Aperture, so I can't use Aperture for most of my image editing, even though iPhoto reads them without any trouble.
    Any suggestions?

    Frank:
Yes, all of the images are available in iPhoto, whether they're in the iPhoto library, or on the external drive.
Aperture isn't showing any symbol other than the dotted line frame, at least none that I've seen yet. I thought at first that it was the images on the external drive that were missing, but it's actually showing some of them, and not showing others even in some cases ones in the same folder. If a screenshot would help, I'll capture one (I don't know how to do that in OSX yet, though I suspect it's just a matter of the right key combo?).
CalxOddity: It's an OSX volume, but I'm not sure how to determine which filesystem it's using, or else I'd be more specific.
leonieDF: It is a network volume, one of the Time Capsule drives. Though I knew it would slow down loading, I didn't expect any other problems, since iPhoto doesn't have any.
    Thanks!

  • Importing iPhoto library in Aperture

Hello this is the step that i follow to import the iPhoto library in Aperture
    1- File>Import>iPhoto Library
2- Store Files in the apeture library
    3- Import
When the importing process is finished from the image folder in Finder I can see that my iphoto library is 30gb but the Aperture library is 15gb (even if the aperure window when I import the iphoto library say that aperutre will import 30gb)
So I go in aperture and try to consolidate files but aperture say
The selection doesn’t have any referenced files
    Any help?

My master folder in iphoto is 25gb in aperture is 13
So either quite a few masters have not been imported, or the masters have been imported with the wrong resolutzin, or your iPhoto "Masters" folder contains additional files - duplicate versions, or raw files.
    @TD, any more suggestions?
So, please, look into the "Masters" folder in iPhoto and Aperture - navigate down the folder structure , until you finally find the actual images. Compare the sizes of the master image files, and look in the iPhoto library if there are duplicates.
If the sizes of the master files in iPhoto are larger than in Aperture, then something went wrong.
If on the other hand, there are duplicates in iPhoto that are not there in Aperture, then never mind.
You confirmed that the numbers of images are correct. When you compared the numbers of images in iPhoto and Aperture, did you make sure that iPhoto was set to show "Hidden Photos"? (in the main menu bar: "View -> Hidden Photos" should be checked)
Ps. How do I get bigger icon in left side if finder?
When you have a Finder Window selected, you can customize the View by pressing Command(⌘)-J, short for "View -> Show View Options". In the pop-up window set the Text Size to a higher value.
That will increase the size of the icons as well.

  • Aperture loosing track of referenced masters

I'm having a problem with Aperture loosing track of referenced masters. I have more than 10,000 images in Aperture most of them are stored as referenced masters. I have several projects where "some" of the files have (according to Aperture) gone missing. The images were imported into Aperture at the same time, have always been in their current location (in the same directory), and have not been treated any differently than each other. Looking at the files in the grid view doesn't show any differences in the master file location. Does anyone have any idea how Aperture gets confused?
    thanks
    Rich

It seems to be leopard thing, probably connected to either time machine or spaces. There are a number of threads about this, but no real answers as far as I know.
