Aperture losing Serial Number

I bought my upgrade to Aperture 3 by downloading the trial, and then purchasing the upgrade through the trial program. This worked great up until 10.8. Apple pulled the trial software download, and I had to do a manual install. Which works, but every so often on boot, it asks for the serail number. I can't do a fresh install since I never received any physical media, and I don't think I should pony up $80 to re-buy it fromthe App Store. Any Ideas on how to fix this problem?

You can download the Trial Installer from there; make a backup copy and keep it safe, once you have it! This article also describes, how to reinstall. Download the Aperture 3.1 Trial.
You may have an invalid ProApp System ID file, see my answer here, on how to fix that:

New iMac won't recognize Aperture 3 Serial number?

I am trying to load aperture 3 on my new imac. When I enter the serial number it gives me the message "You have entered an upgrade serial number. Please enter your original serial number". What I am entering is the original serial number that came with aperture 3. A couple of things that maybe important to note is that I have used both aperture 1 &2 prior to installing aperture 3. As well, I am currently running aperture 3 on two additional machines which I will be slowly fazing out.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The key question is, is the Aperture 3 that you bought an upgrade version or full version? And how and when did you buy it, Apple online store, DVD or App Store?
If it is an upgrade version you will need to enter you're Aperture 2 serial number. If it is a full version then have a look at Troubleshooting Professional Application Serial Numbers and Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers
Finally you can try going to /Library/Application Support/ProApps and seeing if there are any files there with Aperture in their name in some form. Post back if there is.

Help..need an Aperture 2 serial number to access my library on new computer

I just bought a new computer and have migrated my files but cannot access my Aperture application or library because it is asking for my original Aperture serial number. I have my Aperture 3 upgrade serial number but it wants the original Aperture 2 serial number which I didn't save. I called the Apple store and they said any Aperture 2 serial number will work. does anyone have an Aperture 2 serial number which I could use? I would so appreciate it. I'm in despair/disbelief over this.

Hmmmm I tend to think carolya that no-one will be prepared to surrender their Aperture 2 serial number somehow....
If you have Aperture 2 already, as you say you have.... then the original serial number is on the back of the cardboard box that it came in....

I have Aperture 2, changed my imac, used the backup system and found that I cannot find my serial number for Aperture 2. I have Aperture 3 upgrade, so can someone please advise how I get my serial number for Aperture 2 please. Hence I can not install Aperture 2, and therefore same problem not being able to install upgrade. Assistance would be much appreciated.

I was having the same problem, unable to find my trash can. I did everythnig suggested in this post to no avail. Then I discovered if you hover to the far right of RECENT you will see either "Show" or "Hide" "Show" reveals the following, including the trash. I'm sheepish that the solution was so easy but delighted to report that after viewing AND emptying my trash, I gained 55 GB on my HD.

I've just reset my macbook pro and installed mountain lion, I have copy of aperture 2 and an upgrade serial number for 3, neither work, aperture 2 won't open at all with mountain lion, and installing aperture 3 won't let me use the upgrade serial number, can anyone help?

On what media is your copy of Aperture 3?

Basically you will not need to install your version of 2, install 3 and enter both the original serial number from 2 and then the update serial number from 3.

Aperture 2 Serial Number not valid from 1.5

Hi,
I have just purchased Aperture 2 but when installing on my new mac it is saying that the serial number from Aperture 1.5 is not valid. Triple checked but still no luck.
Any ideas please would be great!

Are you sure your 1.5 is not an academic version or an NFR? Those are not eligible for upgrade.

Unhappily the serial number Apple ([email protected]) has sent to me for Aperture Trial is not valid!

I have a similar problem. I installed the trial, and
it worked okay, until I updated it through Software
Update. So I trashed the program and thought I would
reinstall the version which was linked in the e-mail
that contained my serial number. Now I can't
reinstall it because it says that it was installed
before.
Grrrrrrrrrrr...
If you want to reinstall you have to delete the aperture files in system/receipts. These files tell the system what has been installed and will not allow a reinstall if they are present.

Aperture trial serial number never arrives

I'm sure there's a sensible reason for this. I'd like to give Aperture a trial, and despite having gotten as far as the "Thank you" screen that assures me a trial serial number will soon be sent, I've yet to get one. Yes, I'm relatively certain I typed my email address correctly the four times I've tried. Yes, I regularly check my email junk/trash folders. Yes, Apple is on my white list. Any suggestions welcome for how to get the test serial number delivered!

I had this issue. The answer was to logon to the apple site first using your apple id.
Then once logged in then go to the trial webpage and request a serial number. I got my serial number in seconds.

Aperture 3 serial number won't work

I just moved to a new Mac Air and wen't to open Aperture and it asked for my serial number which I entered per the email order confirmation I recieved from Apple and now it says it is not valid.
Any help would be great.

I have exactly the same problem----iMac to a new Macbook Air and the serial number, same as on the iMac, is rejected. Shouldn't there be a solution to this August 8th question by now? It has been 7 weeks. Where can we go for an answer if not here? Thanks

Aperture forgot serial number

Open Aperture (2.1.4) this morning to find it asking me for my serial number.
I had been using Aperture with no problem last night so I don't know why this has happened.
I used Time Machine to restore the following file from the day before and everything is now OK:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist

I had the same situation some time ago. I can't remember if it was with 2.1.4 or an earlier version.
I worked with Aperture one day and closed it. Next day, Aperture started up with it's startup screen which contains the serial number.
Then a box popped up and asked me to enter the serial again. I just read the number from the startup dialog and entered it again - everything was fine.
Maybe it's just a check if you're already awake and ready to work with Aperture

Aperture forgetting serial number

Aperture keeps forgetting the serial number. Have updated to 3.02. Have trashed Apple id for Aperture. running OS 10.6.2. This is upgrade so every time have to enter version 2 and version 3 number. Very annoying. Thanks for help.

I'm having the exact same problem. Everytime i start Aperture, the program asks for my serial numbers. I'm also using an the upgrade. Also, after entering the serial number, Aperture hangs. I'd appreciate any help!

Serial Number
Did i ever got a serial number when i bought the app? I do not think so. Who can help me?

That is exactly what I have been thinking, and also, I was not quite sure, if it was an Apple Store or App Store purchase, Frank; we will see, when we have the answer to your question, and know the Aperture version.

Help! Aperture requires serial number when I open it now.

Ever since I upgraded to OSX mountain lion now when I open aperture it asks for a serial number. I purchased it as a download at the app store and did not include a serial number. Can anyone tell me what I should do?

At some point did you have a version of Aperture that you acquired from a distribution stream other than the Mac App Store (MAS)?
I suggest using an app, such as AppCleaner, to completely remove Aperture from your Mac and then download the app again from the Purchases list in the MAS Purchases pane.

Aperture - new serial number

hello! I need some help. My friend let me use his aperture serial number to install the program on my computer so that I could see if I liked it before purchasing it. After using it a little I decided to buy one for myself. I installed the newly purchased Aperture cd, thinking it would ask me to change the serial number (so I could free my friend's possibility of using the program on other computers) but it still runs on the serial number belonging to my friend. Can anybody help me? Thanks....

Quit Aperture.
Delete the file /Library/Application Support/ProApps/Aperture System ID
Re-launch Aperture, input your key.
Good to go.

Aperture request serial number after upgrading to Leopard.

I have just upgrade to Leopard. Everything goes right except for the fact Aperture no longer open. It is requesting for my serial number. Never had to do this before. I am working with Aperture for at least a year now and made all my updates without having to re-enter the serial number. This happens only a few week after I throw out the empty box of Aperture not being aware I was keeping it probably because of that serial number! What can I do now.

Welcome to the forum. As you've registered the software with Apple you might be able to ring them up and get your serial number.

P.S. NEVER throw away those little slips with the serial number on! Your computer could crash and the backup not work, Migration Assistant might fail to copy the serial number across to a newly-bought computer, you might want to sell the software etc. There are many circumstances that might require you to fill in the serial number again...
