Aperture lost images

Hi, I have 6500 managed image files in Aperture. The vault contains 89GB and is stored on a mirrored Raid. After exporting all the versions from Aperture to two new portable hard drives I've been warned on both occasions that a number of different files have not copied.
After the first time this happened I re-imported the missing files to Aperture. Now other files are missing.
When I've checked in Aperture the missing files have previews greyed out, but all the file info is still readable. Do you think this is an Aperture problem and what could be causing it, or could it be a Raid problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

Tim, remove the preferences, when you launch a new one will be created.
Do a finder level search for ".aplibrary" this will find all of the Aperture libraries on your system. Go through and confirm that you only have the two libraries on your system.
Tim it is sounding like the 99GB library on the RAID your with your vaults is the one you are looking for, if the search confirms this, double click on this library file, it will launch aperture for you. Alternatively hold the "option" key down when launching Aperture from the dock, this will bring up an option to either choose a library or create a new library, choose a library and navigate to the library on the raid.
Once you have got it open and confirmed that this is your working library, you have some thinking to do. The idea of the vault is to be a back up of your library in case something should go wrong, library corrupt OR hard-drive fail. The library and vault MUST be on separate MACOS formatted drives, and having two vaults is great, but again they must be on separate drives and idealy one of these should be stored off site.

  • Aperture Lost Masters after Time Machine restore

    Hello, everybody.
I have such problem. I experience some problems with mouse freeze after 10.6.3 update and tried to solve this problem by restoring my backup copy of system from Time Machine. I restored full hdd. All working ok, but Aperture lost links to Masters. I did not save pictures in Aperture library all of them imported to library as linked to original files (save in current location). I see files using Finder, I could find each file through check reference files in Aperture. But it almost impossible to do it for each file in Aperture Library (more than 20000+ files) manually. How i could fix this problem? OS 10.6.5, Aperture 3.1.1

If I'm reading your post correctly these are *referenced masters*, correct? And Aperture has lost the connection to them but you still can see them on the drive. Now you want to reconnect them.
    # Select all the images in Aperture that Aperture has lost its link to. You can use a *Smart Album* to so this. In the *Smart Album* select *Add Rule* then in the rule select missing. This will give you an album of all missing files. Select them all.
    # Goto *File->Locate Referenced Files*. All the missing files will be listed. You can reconnect them from here. It can be a bit tricky so it would be best if you read the section on this in the Aperture Users manual.
    Good luck

  • Aperture lost my videos

I just realized that Aperture lost some of my videos. When I click the thumbnail of the video it doesn't play. And when I control click to Show In Finder it tell me "The file IMGXXXX found not be found because the volume on which it resides is currently offline. Volume: Macintosh HD. I never put these file on an external drive they all should be on my Macs hard drive. What do I do now? I am Running Mavericks

    Just some ideas -
When I am importing from my IOS devices, I primarily use the Photo Stream - that will always show the most recent images at the end of the stream and easy to locate.
Also I keep the camera roll empty as empty as possible and delete everything from the camera roll after importing it - a nearly empty camera roll makes importing much quicker. All images that I want on my iDevices are organized in Aperture albums, and I sync the albums back using iTunes. This way, I have a backup on my mac and can use Aperture to browse and edit them.
I see, that you want to keep photos on your iPhone, that you do not want on your mac, but if you like these photos on your phone, they should be worth to be backed up on your Mac as well.

If these are actually part of a QuickTime movie then the best you can do is try get screen grabs of them.

  • Aperture 2 Image Preview Corruption?

I just installed Aperture 2 (upgrade) this weekend, and am noticing that eventually, after several minutes of use, image previews (main window, not thumbnails) will start becoming corrupted. The corruption looks like streaks or bands of altered color data. Once it begins, it will persist for most new images that are clicked on. If I quit Aperture, I've noticed the behavior continue with other images (i.e. my desktop background). A couple times, this has also been followed by a system crash.
I'm running on a Dual 2.0 GHz G5, 3.5 GB, OS 10.5.2. Vast majority of images are RAW from a Canon 20D. Prior to updating Aperture, my system was fairly stable - the only crashes I would typically see were sleep-related.
Anyone else see similar behavior? I should note that when I've relaunched Aperture, the image previews are no longer corrupted, so I don't think anything is wrong with my photos themselves...
    Thanks for any insight!

Well, I think I finally found the answer to my problem... bad RAM. My system has been rather flaky recently - apps crashing randomly, so I started to think there were other issues going on. After reinstalling the OS had no effect, I finally figured I'd test the RAM. Sure enough, one of my pairs of DIMMs was bad (go figure it had to be the big 2GB upgrade I added). After I took them out, my Aperture imports have worked normally. It hasn't been very long, so I can't comment on whether that solved the system stability problems, too, but it's a good bet it has...

  • Changed disks in my RAID, Aperture lost all referenced masters.

    I have a G-Speed eS RAID system. I had 4 X 1TB disks.
I decided to change the hard disks to 2TB ones to double my storage capacity.
I retained the same volume name. I backed up the 2.5TB of data to 3 other disks and then copied it back to my upgraded RAID.
So I have a completely identical file structure. My photos were in /Volumes/GS/photo, and this is where they are now. However Aperture lost all connections to the 35000 referenced files.
It seems that there is no way to tell Aperture that old /Volumes/GS and new /Volumes/GS is the same location from my point of view (is your point of view different?). This means I have to reconnect each one of the 100+ projects manually. I DO NOT LIKE THAT. Am I missing something, or is this a nasty oversight? Don't tell me that this is a "feature" and one can only move REFERENCED masters from within Aperture...
Note: Repairing or rebuilding the library does not help.

    Your suggestion works, but
    1) You have to first select all photos in the "photos" smart album. If you do select them all, "Reconnect All" will not work.
    2) Most important, after reconnecting, I also told Aperture to rebuild my library. And it lost them again... The photos got connected to a <null> named drive which is shown as offline.
We are talking about a big deficit of reliability here...
I had a backup of my Aperture Library. So I reconnected the files again, without a Library rebuild this time.
But what if I need to rebuild my library in the future?? I AM SCARED...
No need to mention that I have lost all day moving around many gigabytes of data, reconnecting files, etc etc. This is hardly a productivity boost.
The worst part is that I like a lot the Aperture UI and I hate the alternative.
    But Aperture is unfortunately unreliable.
Just play enough time with the loupe on my MacPro and the application will crash.

  • Is Aperture displaying images with a modified color temp. or gamma?

I am brand new to Aperture and after importing some scans from black and white negatives, I notice that the same images when viewed in Preview or Photoshop appear brighter and perhaps cooler (but it is hard to tell with black and white images).
I am just trying to discover why Aperture displays images a little differently than other applications.
    Thanks in advance.
    D

the same images when viewed in Preview or Photoshop
Comparison across applications is meaningful if and only if the image has the selfsame source ICC colour space profile. Begin by checking that the image has an embedded source ICC colour space profile. There are lots of ways, either run one the ColorSync AppleScript that extracts the embedded profile, or open the image in Apple Preview and check Tools > Get Info > Summary: ColorSync Profile, or open the image in the Apple ColorSync Utility, or open the image in Adobe Photoshop (which will describe an image without an embedded source ICC colour space profile as 'Untagged RGB', 'Untagged Gray' or 'Untagged CMYK'). If instead you open an image without an embedded source ICC colour space profile in a series of side-by-side application windows, these applications will assign an assumed source ICC colour space profile and the sources they assign may not be the same. In order to configure a conversion you have to have a source and a destination: no source, no colour managed conversion, so a source has sometimes to be assigned.
    Hope this helps,
    Henrik

  • HT4007 Does Aperture support Images and videos from the new 3D cameras?

Does Aperture support Images and videos from the new 3D cameras?

If the camera is listed here OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats or here Mac OS X v10.6: Supported digital camera RAW formats then the raw image file is supported by Aperture.
If the camera is not listed then as Keith wrote if it produces JPG's they can be imported into Aperture.
If you told us what camera you were interested in it might help.

  • Lost images - need to rebuild iPhoto library

I was recently in the apple store for a repair and was told that I can 'rebuild' my iPhoto library to find lost images. I can't seem to find anything in the help section on doing this. I can't remember if I've changed the directories, but I don't believe so. I've only moved the iPhoto folder to a hard drive and then back again. I can't think of anything else out of the ordinary.
Thoughts, suggestions on finding lost pictures / rebuilding the library?
    Thanks

Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Attempting to restore lost images

Twice, all of my photos have been completely wiped out from my Mac and I have never been able to recover them. Today I attempted something by myself and shouldn't have! I was using Disk Utility to attempt to restore the images. And I clicked on my "All Images" folder in the finder window to drag it over to the restore box. I have since learned that was NOT how to restore the lost images (I have never used Time Machine) and I still don't know how to restore them but I now know I was NOT in the right place!
But when I was messing around with it and clicked on the all images folder and drug it over to the disk utilities screen there was a little poof icon and then the folder was gone and I can't find it. Help??

Are you sure that there is not an Apple ID problem going on here?
I have never restored from an iCloud backup and I assume that you are in the process of setting up the new iPad and cannot get past this stumbling block of trying to restore from that backup. Is that a correct assumption? Or did you set up the iPad already and now you are trying to restore from the iPad backup?
What are the steps that you have gone through to this point on the new iPad?

  • I lost images.  how can I recover?

Out of know where, I lost images.  Not sure how many, but the timespan was from Fall of 2011 to present.  I'm going to say 20-30 images.  Gone.  What are my options?  Can I reset phone to an earlier date similar to my computer to try to regain?

Restore the phone using a backup from when they were present.

  • Aperture 2.0 Library Failure - lost images

I have recently upgraded to 10.5.2, the new graphics library etc and Aperture 2.0 in order to use my Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III. The FIRST, new library that I created and loaded just 55 raw files in has lost my images!
Background: I was using the images fine after importing, had rated, organized, cropped, applied keywords etc and then after quitting to take a break, came back and reloaded Aperture...
Aperture's library is now not displaying my images - thumbnails appear blank, main images are blank, previews are not available in iphoto browser etc
Worse still the finder shows that the library has now become only 1.7mb small - eg way smaller than even one image, and i can't even find the original raw files
Things I have tried to recover...
    - opening up the library package to find the original raw images
    - exporting the project - it exports with the same problem
    - backing up to a vault - same problem - no images in the vault
    - the usual restarting the computer etc
This is incredibly disappointing to say the least... any ideas anyone? Apple?
Other things I know to do - just so anyone good enough to help has all the info:
    - Time Machine is NOT backing up this library
    - I have not written any files since this problem
    - I have tried disk repairs - my disk appears fine...
    Help?!

Ok, well for some reason, I can't edit my own message. Here's what I wanted to say....
Let's have a look at what Aperture thinks was imported. Right-click on [http://208.106.31.89/scripts/dump] the link and select 'Download linked file', then:
    1) Open Terminal.app from Applications -> Utilities
    2) Type 'chmod 755 ~/Downloads/dump.sh'
    3) Type '~/Downloads/dump.sh "/path/to/your/aperture/library" '
    4) Post the results of the script...
Don't type any of the single-quote (') characters above, but do type the double-quote ones ("). Note that the ~ character is next to the '1' key on the US keyboard, and it's a shifted-character.
    Here's an example:
    charlie% ~/Downloads/dump.sh "/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary"
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/VJ1V2271.CR2 (size:12067173) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/VJ1V1626.CR2 (size:12573080) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/VJ1V2191.CR2 (size:13004152) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/VJ1V2185.CR2 (size:13168053) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/Users/simon/Pictures/12NOV05PRAIA012.CR2 (size:8562709) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/VJ1V1576.CR2 (size:12285696) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/VJ1V1804.CR2 (size:13539361) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/13NOV05PRAIA040.CR2 (size:7279522) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/VJ1V1694.CR2 (size:11732118) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/_M4S2077.CR2 (size:15492152) is referenced
    file '/Volumes/Users/charlie/Pictures/12NOV05PRAIA022.CR2 (size:9285637) is referenced
This tells me that all the files were imported referenced, the path that Aperture thinks they're located and their sizes. If all your files are referenced, the library-size isn't a problem. If they're managed, it is.
    Let me know

  • Aperture 3.3 lost images

I upgraded [perhaps that should read downgraded] to 3.3 Some images appear lost although the thumbnails are there in the Projects window?
I have ran aperture repair, database rebuild etc. All to no avail.
Anyone help? I dont think I,m alone in this

Hi I have been working on this for the past week, I lost all images added after December 2011. To fix the problem I renamed Aperture.app to Aperture.appxx and downloaded a trial version of Aperture 3.1, I I installed this and then used the Aperture 3.2.3 upgrade from apple.com/support to match the version of my backed up library on Time Machine.
I then deleted the corrupt library form my computer and recovered the old 3.2.3 library from Time Machine. I held alt + cmd and double clicked the Aperture library to open the Aperture repair window, repaired the library. Once complete I renamed Aperture 3.2.3 to Aperture.app123 and renamed Aperture 3.3 to Aperture.app. I opened Aperture 3.3 and the library was automatically upgraded. Once the library upgrade was complete I checked all my images and all were now visible within Aperture.
One thing to note, when deleting the corrupt library from your hard drive it will not be deleted completely from your computer but instead moved to a backup folder in OSX Lion. In my case I had to disable the backup (http://toti.posterous.com/hidden-local-backups-with-mac-os-x-lion-filli) as I did not have enough space to copy my recovered library to my hard drive while the backup existed on the same drive.

  • TS3946 Aperture Book: images look fine in Aperture but not in PDF preview.  OS 10.9, Aperture 3.4.5

Aperture 3.4.5, OS 10.9.  When making a PDF prior to ordering a book, I note that images look fine within Aperture book module, but about 10 out of 100 images look terrible in the PDF.  Shall I ignore this and go ahead and order the book?

    Hi,
Strangely I'm now having exactly the same problem all of a sudden.  I've been building the book for about a month now (I've made about 6 before without any trouble) and along the way have been producing a pdf of the book to see how it will look.  Yesterday I noticed some of the images seemed to have lost colour when looking at the pdf version and then today, many pictures all of a sudden look exactly like the example you've supplied above.
I've tried shutting down my imac and restarting thinking it was a memory issue, have checked if I had any filters activated (which I don't and I haven't used filters in books before either), have tried repairing then rebuilding aperture, copying the book to a new library, new location, opening on a different mac and then printing again but none of this had any positive effect.
So from what I understand from your last post, the workaround you came up with was to revert to the original of each image that had the problem and then make the adjustments again?
