Aperture makes eye purple with Red Eye Correction tool. Why? Bug?

http://www.hvmediasolutions.com/images/picture1.png
As you can see with the above picture, Aperture does not do red eye well. iPhoto gets it right, actually as well as Photoshop CS4.
Any suggestions? Or is this a bug?
And yes I could use Photoshop every time, but I am trying to do as much as I can in Aperture.
Thanks,
Ed

I have an old camera, Nikon Cool Pix 3100 and save my photos to .jpg. Yes I know, time to upgrade.
I capture straight into Aperture.
The thing that bugs me, iPhoto 08 gets it right, better than Photoshop. Aperture, since version 1, has always given me purple red eye cast on both Intel and Power PC Mac Book Pro's. Since iPhoto can get it right, Aperture should be able to.
Currently I use Pixelmator and desaturate with the brush tool for the best results.
By the way Lightroom 2 desaturates the eye to a light grey with it's red eye tool.
Different results with 4 different applications. I would love to just use one.

  • Where is the red eye correction tool now?

Can't find it anywhere.  Why did they remove it? (iphone 6)
In the Photos.app.  When you select a photo and click "edit", there is an eye icon at the upper border of the panel. That is the "red eye" correction tool.

  • Red-Eye Correction Tool Missing Sliders in 2.5

I just upgraded from 2.4 to 2.5, build 605155.  The sliders are missing from the Red-Eye Correction Tool.
    Any idea where they went?

The text should replaced by the sliders after you have clicked on the red area. If it doesn't, the area you clicked on doesn't match the parameters for the tool (unusual if red or near red) or the Lightroom preference file is corrupted.
You can try trashing the existing Lr preference file, which is located as described at the following link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0

  • Pet eye correction tool doesn't work as I expected.

I read the Help file info and watched the video for using the Pet-eye correction tool.  The photo they used was a dog.
I have cats, so I tried it with a cat photo.  In the photo I used, the pupil (center of the eyes) are olive green, with the white dot.  The area surrounding the eyes are yellow, the normal color. I expected the tool to darken ONLY the green.
For the attached photo, the settings I used are pupil radius-4%, darken 26%.  (I did try other settings/combinations.) No matter where in the green area I clicked, almost all of the entire eye turned dark, NOT just the pupil.  I can do a better job manually.
This is very disappointing, as this tool is the main reason that I'm evaluating Elements 12.

    Hi,
That is what I thougth as well. According the manual you can use an expresion, column, constant or bind variable for N.
N determines the nth row for which the measure value is to be returned. n can be a
constant, bind variable, column, or an expression involving them, as long as it
resolves to a positive integer. The function returns NULL if the data source window
has fewer than n rows. If n is null, then the function returns an error.

  • Why can't I make a selection with my path selection tool?

While following a tutorial, I am now unable to make a path selection.  I know how to select a path, have done it before, but now my path selct tool does not select a path.  Did I change settings or something else that I am not aware of?  Any help would be appreciated.

A changed setting may not be your problem.
One pertinent question is: Can you SEE the path you are trying to select ? That is, do you see the thin line that Photoshop uses to show you the locus of points that define your path. This is distinct from the stroke that you may have applied to the path and distinct from the fill which you may have put within your path. The point being that if you cannot see the path you cannot select it.  If you cannot see the path go to the paths panel and left click on the path of interest. This will show you the path line and then with your path selection tool active clicking on any part ofthe path line will select the path.
By the way, depending on path fills and path strokes that may be present it may be difficult to see the path line.

  • Red eye correction tool

Does anyone know of a fix for the red eye tool. Mine and others I know find that the tool only works occasionally if at all.
    Dennis

You have to surround the entire eye with it, not just the pupil - click and drag.

  • Why does my Wacom tablet only make straight lines with the pencil & brush tool even WITHOUT shift?

I have Photoshop CS3 on Mac OSX 10.5.8 on a white MacBook and I'm using a Wacom CTE-630, and I always had the correct drivers.
Yesterday I discovered that the brush and pencil tools were incapable of doing anything but a dot or a straight line while I used my Wacom tablet. Using those tools with the touchpad works perfectly! Curves and squiggles abound! But for some reason I can't do it with my tablet.
And I yes I tried downloading the latest drivers from the Wacom website... to no avail.
After looking through forums I discovered that it was a problem experienced by users of tablets of other brands, I couldn't find any mention of Wacom tablets having this issue. And then I saw a thread somewhere that mentioned holding shift created straight lines! So I immediately thought that perhaps photoshop was functioning in reverse or maybe my shift button was broken...
So I pressed shift, and something different happened, if I made a dot on the page a line would automatically appear, connecting that dot to the previous dot I had made. Which is in contrast to the issue I had been having which goes something like this:
If I try to make any curved lines, a dot will appear where I first made contact on the page and then when I release the pen from the tablet a straight line will go from there to the dot at the start of the line. In other words, a dot appears when I start a line and no matter what I do with the line after that, a straight line goes from where I ended the line to where I started it!! ARGHHHH!!
And it turns out It's not a Wacom problem, or it doesn't seem to be, because it works fine with the brush tool in Illustrator CS3.
So I came to the conclusion it was Photoshop that was at fault. I found nothing on these forums related to my issue.
I hope someone can help. Because I was really itching to start digitally painting again. =(
    Thanks in advance!!

Yes I did solve the problem!
Thanks to everyone that suggested things, but none of them worked. In the end it was Wacom, yes... WACOM that solved the problem. Even though it was an Adobe Photoshop issue as far as I could tell. So thank you Wacom, you helped me when I needed it most.
So now to the vital solution:
"Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding pen tool in Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Please try the step below for reset CS3
For MAC, please hold pressing command + alt+ shift, then open Photoshop.
Get the CS3 update. Start CS3 while holding.
If the problem remains, uninstall and reinstall Adobe Photoshop CS3 again."
Worked the first time for me. So spread the word! This issue shall trouble people no more, a solution has been found!

  • Has anyone experience a bug with red eye correction in LR 5?

No matter what I do, anytime I try to use the red-eye correction tool, I get the message "Unable to find red eye".  Even in pictures where the red eye is huge and clearly visible.  Has anything changed in LR 5 that would cause this?  I have Red Eye Correction enabled.  Anyone else experiencing this?
I'm a rather new LR user, so I'd be grateful for someone pointing me in the right direction before I file a bug report.
    Thanks!

    You bet .

In LR 4, the tools seemed so much more forgiving.  In LR 5, it is incredible sensitive.
I don't think there have been any algorithmic changes in red-eye, Lr5 vs. Lr4 (certainly none mentioned by Adobe, nor in Victoria Bampton's very thorough list of changes in Lr5, nor that I've noticed in the forums...), so if it is behaving differently (you sure it's not you? ), then it sounds like something is a-wonk now in your Lr5 (or was a-wonk before in your Lr4 ).

  • Red-Eye Correction Malfunctioning

When I try to use the Red-Eye correction tool in iPhoto, it either doesn't work at all, or it will correct a random spot of the picture instead of the eyes. Any clues?

Try this basic fix: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

  • "Red eye correction" goes beyond the eyeball.

I'm using PSE 3.0, Windows XP Home. Occasionally, when I try to apply "red eye correction", the "darkening" effect is applied to areas of the cheeks, eye brow, or forehead (as well as the eye). My guess is: The subject's skin color or "cosmetic makeup color" is within the range of spectra that "red eye correction" is sensitive to and therefore interprets that it too, needs darkening. How can I "mask off" or otherwise prevent PSE from going beyond the eyes of the subject in it's quest to "eradicate red eye"?

    Larry,
I only have PSE 2 so I don't know how the red eye correction tool works in PSE 3, but I'm guessing you can select just the eye (and maybe feather 1 or 2 pixels) before applying the tool.
You just might skip the red eye tool and do this instead:
    - Zoom in to large eye.
    - Select the red area and feather.
    - Add a Hue/Saturation layer. Select Reds from the Edit menu, move Saturation slider left.

  • Why is the status bar purple with a microphone icon?

My status bar at the top is now purple with an microphone icon.  Why is this?

This occurs when you pair your iPhone to your in car audio system and start siri. If you look at the purple header carefully you will see the siri style mic logo on the right.
To get rid of the purple bar:
    1. Disconnect your iPhone from your car audio
    2. Invoke siri
    3. Switch siri off again without doing anything and the status bar should go back to normal.

  • Problems with previously applied red eye corrections

I imported my Aperture 2 library and see that some images that had red eye correction before aren't corrected in AP3. It isn't universal and sometimes one person's eye would be corrected while the other would be red, even though the adjustments indicated both had been corrected.
    Anyone else see this?

Me, too. I tried reapplying the red eye on a couple of pictures. After I clicked on the red eye tool, my previous red eye corrections appeared as the target icons on the pictures, but the red eyes didn't get corrected. There doesn't seem to be any way I can correct them, now.

  • My Photoshop (CS4) Red Eye Correction always makes the eyes a dark blue.  ??

What if the person in the photograph has medium brown eyes?  How do I get the Red Eye Correction to stop always making the eyes a dark blue?  Can't find out how to change the color cast.  The software is Photoshop (CS4) for Mac.

It's in the Spot Healing pop-out, but I never use it.  There is an option in Camera RAW, but prefer to use a Hue/Saturation layer.  Select both pupils with the eliptical marquue tool > Open the H/S layer, and adjust hue, sat, and lightness if required.
    or
Open the H/S layer with no selection in place, and use the RGB drop-down and select the Reds.  Then adjust hue, sat, lightness.  Invert the layer mask, and paint back in with a soft white brush.

  • Red eye correction not saving, Red eye correction not saving

I open iphoto and try to auto-fix red eye in one picture but it's not an option. So I manually fix it but once I hit "done" the red eye correction does not save. I have iphoto'11.

I hit "done" the red eye correction does not save.
Perhaps your library is corrupted. Try to repair your iPhoto library.
Launch iPhoto with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and try the first aid options "repair permissions" and "repair database", if necessary also "rebuild database". Before you do any repairing, make sure that the backup of your iPhoto library is up to date.

  • Red eye correction generating strange grid pattern in viewer

    Hi everyone,
For the last week Aperture 3.5.1 has been adding a strange grid with a repeating pattern in my images when I edit them in the viewer.  Here is a screenshot:
The strange pattern is near the top right and appears to be of my son's eye. The pattern appears in multiple images and always seems to be one of the eyes of the subject! It occurs when I use the red eye correction.
If I toggle off certain adjustments, not just the red-eye adjustment, the pattern goes away. However, once I turn on certain adjustments the pattern returns or moves to another part of the screen! If I do turn off red eye correction the grid goes away.
    So let me summarize here:
If I use red eye correction and I use ANY other adjustments then I will get the strange eye grid.
It appears if I don't use the red eye correction the eye grid does not appear.
I have tried repairing permissions, repairing the library, rebuilding the database, and reinstalling Aperture. I've also tried moving the library to another mac and I can replicate the issue on that mac as well, however, not as often? I also downloaded memtest and ran it on my mac and it said all my ram is fine. I have also tried shortening my library and I can duplicate the issue in a small library with few pictures.
I'd really like to use the red eye correction without the strange grid! When I export the images the grid does not appear.

Sounds like you have done everything but delete your user preferences.  This often resolves UI issues.
Details are on Apple's Aperture trouble-shooting page.
