Aperture messing up Systemprefs "Desktop Image" in Leopard

hi all,
i did a clean install from mac os x 10.5 leopard. since i installed aperture, updated it to v1.5.6, i can´t choose my own desktop images from system preferences. my own folders disappeared. if want to add them again, system prefreferences is telling me, that they are in the library already.
the problem is reproducible. 2 other imacs here having the same issue.

I am experiencing the same issue. in system preferences I can choose any photo from iPhoto but aperture shows nothing. I can see all of my Aperture project names but no photos. My problem extends to the iwork apps too. When I choose the inspector I can choose anything form iPhoto but Aperture only shows up as blank grey squares.

strange. i guess everybody using aperture and leopard should have that problem.
Nope, but then I didn't have any folders before. I just added one to test your theory. Showed up fine.
PS. Maybe try and delete the com.apple.desktop.plist preference file?

  • Desktop image been gimped in leopard?

I just upgraded to 10.5 from 10.3 in the last couple of days. Just a question:
In 10.3 when selecting an image to use as your desktop image the selector would show all the pictures in the selected file, and the folders, letting you click through to navigate to many different folders in the directory.
It seems that in 10.5 it now only shows the images in a selected folder, and not the folders therein, which makes picking new desktop images far more time consuming.
Is there some hidden option somewhere, or is this part of 10.5 just a bit gimped compared to the earlier version?

I'm not talking about adding a single folder. I'm talking about once a folder has been added (such as the pictures folder), you can no longer just browse through all the folders within the selection window.
In 10.3 if you had a folder selected it would show all the pictures & folders within, then, without having to choose 'add folder' you could search through the full contents of a folder, which it seems you can't now.
Being able to just search all you pictures at one time was far more user friendly than having to add every bloody folder with a picture in it to the list.

  • Please help my desktop images, wallpapers gone.

Please community i need your help. I restored my computer from Lion to lion, before i had Leopard and i had all my favority desktop wallpapers, for example aurora , earth horizon , earth etc..      When i installed for the first time Lion , i got even more desktop images  for ex. Aurora at grey or blue colors those i loved so much . I am so new to mac's ok i did not even know where my folders were, i even wanted to get the same background images for me phone too ^^. But when i did a restore from Lion to Lion means that i erased(and i forgot to backup or search for the desktop images on my mac it was to late ) my disk and got the install all over again , all my desktop wallpapers were gone. Now please if possible for some1 to sent me if he got upgraded from Leopard to Lion and did not erased or kept a backup of desktop images, to simple sent me the folder with all the descibed images i mention, i would be very happy again thank you.

have had the same problem. also not a computer buff - mine had not been in for work when it would go to sleep after i had shut if down. happened a few times then i lost photos, lots of them. took it to local APPLE repairs and they found nothing, 21 days later.
last night it did it again - powered off at home and sleeping when i got to the office.
    any advice?

  • Aperture Library unavailable in Desktop Background

I've been transitioning to Aperture for quite some time and have been having recurring trouble, with both 3.0 and 3.1, in using the Aperture Library in my Desktop Backgrounds preference pane.
When loading the Desktop preference pane, the stock images and an unused iPhoto library load up, but the Aperture library waits for a few moments and then it loads nothing. No tiny arrow on the left, no images in the window, nothing. The Aperture library loads into the Screen Saver preference pane, as well as other places for the iLife Media Browser. JUST NOT the Desktop Background pane.
I took the time to look in the Console for some insight and I got that System Preferences sent the message:
** DesktopPref error: DSKApertureRootSource -loaddata TIME OUT!!! There something wrong with iLife Media Browser
Yes, that would be Apple's poor grammar. If anybody has ANY insight into this, I'd welcome it, because I'd love to get this solved.
For those who might already suggest, let me note that I have rebuilt the library twice, repaired permissions, blah blah blah.

I have exactly the same problem, but I can trace it a bit further.
    I use three Aperture libraries.
I open one of them in Aperture, and then select the other ones with File > Switch library.
Two of them work fine and appear in "Change desktop background"
The third one does not appear - I only have "aperture" written in grey, but no subfolders.
THIS ONE IS THE ONE CONTAINING FACEBOOK SHARED ALBUMS !!
So I'm afraid the Facebook/flicker sharing functionality could be (once more (*)) the problem here.
Can anyone confirm based on own experience ?
+(*) once more because it seems that these functionalities already break the bridge between Aperture and FrontRow. It does on my iMac, and it has been reported in many other threads also.+

  • Desktop images changer question

I'm relatively new to using a Mac, so bear with me on this one: I have a MacBook Pro with the most recent version of OS X Leopard on it. I downloaded some wallpaper/desktop images off the Internet, created a separate folder for them inside the Library - Desktop Images folder, but I want to have the system change them at intervals, in random order, which is easy enough to do. I'd also like the system to cycle through all the desktop images in the desktop images folder, and not just the newly created Downloaded Images folder. Will Leopard do that automatically (or can it)? If not, is there a way to implement this?
    Thank you, ahead of time.

you need to put all images in the same folder if you want the system to cycle through them It can't cycle through images in two different folders at once.

  • Can you rotate the display/desktop in snow leopard?

I was wondering if it is possible to rotate the display in snow leopard. I looked in display setting but I didn't see the option there, if I there is one. I looked in a couple other places but I didn't see it. Is there something that can possible be downloaded to get this option or, maybe not. Seems like a pretty basic feature I would thing it would be there but then again I've overlooked some pretty simple things in the past, so it might right in front of my face. In case my intent isn't clear what I want to be able to do is physically rotate my rectangle wide screen monitor to a horizontal position so it's width is smaller then it hight, and so I need to also rotate the desktop image to correspond with the position of the monitor. Can anyone help, Thanks.

Up until a few months ago, I was a PC user. Three years or so ago I bought an ipod 80gb, then a Zune 80gb a year later to watch movies on, because I drove a lot, so I would watch TV on the ipod and movies on the Zune. But the Zune was a totally glitchy annoying piece of poo. I ended up selling it on Ebay. I bought an ipod 160gb classic through apple.com and both ipods have worked flawlessly sense I bought them. Then I began to ponder about my PC, and just how glitchy it always was and how complicated everything had to be to get things to work. I had used Mac in the past while at work or different places and always liked what I saw. So last year, I think October, I bought a Mac mini to start off with then If I liked it I was going to upgrade in a year or so to something more beefy. The moral of my story is that, I come to learn that after spending all those years dealing with a PCs and everything being so complicated I sometimes assume that when I need to do something on the Mac, I still think it's going to be a hassle so I over look very simple things which turn out to be the solution. I've done that a few times now.
I can honestly say that I have never really been disappointed with any thing that the mac does and I am always surprised with what it can do and how easy to use it is. I'm waiting for the day when the Mac OS over takes MS as the primary consumer OS so that compatible hardware and software is more readily available at stores. Whether that days comes or not I don't know, but I hope it does.

  • Desktop Image and Screensaver: doesn't work

I can not change my desktop image, and my screensaver won't start.
I was playing around in Desktop Preferences tonight, setting different speeds for the iTunes Artwork screensaver to see how it'd look, and suddenly, System Preferences just crashed on me. I wasn't doing ANYTHING strange, just playing with the options of the original screensavers that came with my computer, which is brand new. I don't have any third party screensavers loaded on my machine. The desktop image was one I made myself, with Photoshop. I have absolutely no idea why it's acting this way.
Even stranger, out of curiosity, I created a second user account and tried the screen saver while logged in the second account. The screensaver worked just fine. But still nothing in my main account. Any ideas?
When I try Desktop Images and Screensaver now (within System Preferences), it CRASHES on me. I get this error message:
"The application System Preferences quit unexpectantly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
If I reopen it again, I get the same thing. The second error dialog will always have the option to "try again." If I try again, I can actually open the Desktop Images and Screensavers window. I can't change anything, however. If I try changing something, I get the following message:
    "System Preferences -- New Settings
New settings have been created for this application. Do you wish to use these settings from now on?"
With two buttons for yes or no. However, no matter which button I select, I get the same results.
I've run OSX through Jaguar and Panther, so it's not like I'm a new user who just clicked the wrong thing. I'm seriously stumped here. Can anyone help? I'm a little worried about this.... Thanks.
Dual Core Intel Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

THANK YOU!!!! Yes, it was the preferences in my library causing the problems. I just deleted the screensaver preferences, and that fixed all the problems, including the desktop image problem.
I also think that maybe an alarm clock program I downloaded called Aurora may have been partly to blame. I had Aurora authorized to wake my computer from sleep, even though I had password protection enabled. This might have conflicted with the screensaver somehow, dunno.... Let me know if any of you are successfully using Aurora without any problems, and I will reinstall it. But for now, that program is off my system.
Anyways, thanks a load. You guys are all very helpful. -- Dean

  • How can I use applet to get the desktop image of client

    hi,I have a question to ask u.
How can I use applet to get the desktop image of client? Now I develop a web application and want user in the client to get his current image of the screen. And then save as a picture of jpeg format ,then upload it to the server?
I have done an application to get the screen image and do upload file to server in a servlet with the http protocal.

Since the desktop image is on the client's local hard drive, you'll need to look at trusted applets first.

  • Remote Desktop and Snow Leopard Server

What is the best way to use Remote Desktop with Snow Leopard Server?
I purchased a mac mini with snow leopard server and Remote desktop so I can easily manage my 11 computers, install and upgrade software etc. etc.
The mac mini server will basically be nothing but a server.
I will use as my main computer a mac pro. Do I need to install Remote Desktop on the server and on my mac pro? What is the best way to deploy the services of Remote desktop and mac os x server?

You install Apple Remote Desktop on the machine you want to control from. In this case, install on your Mac Pro. All you have to do on the clients (controlled Macs) is enable remote management in the System Preferences under Sharing. Just make sure that all your controlled Macs are up to date on their ARD version (v3.3.2) which can be taken care of from Software Update.

  • Is there any way to prevent Aperture from Auto Cropping an image?

Is there any way to prevent Aperture from auto cropping an image? I use the "Do Not Crop" aspect ratio often and Aperture constantly picks cropping aspects for me, which is driving me crazy. Can I set "Do Not Crop" as the ratio I want on a more permanent basis anyhow? Thanks for the help.
    Chris

This is a current bug.  Please report it via "Aperture→Send Aperture Feedback".
Just to clarify, the problem is not auto-cropping, the problem is the the crop tool aspect ratio is arbitrarily set (in my case, always to something close to the current crop aspect ratio).  You can reset it (on a per-crop basis) to "Do not constrain".
    It is very bothersome.
You might try trashing your prefs.  Details on the Trouble-shooting page.  I have had the bug return more than once.

  • Does anyone else have an iMac that displays a non-selected desktop image at start-up?

I bought my system new in 2009. It's a 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo Intel processor with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 installed memory. I'm running OSx 10.6.8 Mavericks. The behavior of not displaying my chosen desktop image is new and disturbing. Although the problem seems to be malevolent and non destructive, the cause of the condition is difficult to understand & correct. If Macintosh has designed this to indicate a more serious problem, I salute the protocol but now ask for conditions that may trigger my machine to ignore it's user directed programming and decide to display a 'default' desktop image. Interestingly, at the same time the correct image remains on the Display tab of 'System Information' page . What's wrong with my untouchable, reliable, uncrackable Mac? A more obvious sign of corruption is the sporadic temporary freezing, from a few seconds up to what seems to last over a minute, of most media. It happens while using many different players including iTunes, iDVD player, VLC, Quicktime, Flip4Mac, etc. Any intended help with either or both of these glitches will be reviewed and appreciated. MikeL

I'm trying to work out if it's just this mac I'm working on, or actual bugs/annoyances of InDesign CS5 (version I'm using is 5.5)..
    What version of OS X?
WHat exact vesion of InDesign? Hold down Cmd and select About InDesign. Is it 7.5.2.318 or something else?
    3) ID doesn't quit when I tell it to (but it loves to 'unexpectedly quit' which I'm guessing is this mac more than ID)
No, this is InDesign's fault. Post a crash report to http://pastebin.com/ and post a link here and we'll tell you why it happens.
Most of your items sound like some third party software interfering with InDesign. They don't sound like normal problems.

  • OSX Mountain Lion - Cannot change desktop image

I used an image I'd downloaded as desktop wallpaper. I have tried to change it to the default image, other images, sold colours, but the same image always returns after I reboot (warm and cold boots). Note that I can change the desktop image, but it always reverts back to the old image. The changes do not stick. I cannot locate the image in Finder. Any ideas?

I have the same situation as Marc; however, I do not have access to images. The multicolor circle keeps turning.
This application (Desktop & Screen Saver) is not working anymore.
    Thank you.

  • Disable desktop image - how

Is there a way to disable desktop image - to get more speed to ARD.
Timbuktu does it - maybe ARD can also ?

Like Bennie mentioned... reducing the color will speed things up. Make a suggestion for the feature by going to http://www.apple.com/feedback/remotedesktop.html

i have connected my macbook pro to my tv via MDP to HDMI port cable, all that is showing up is the basic desktop image without any icons, what do i do to correct this

Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.
