Aperture not opening d80 raw files

I cannot get aperture to open raw files from a nikon d80. im using aperture 1.5.2 on os x 10.4.8ppc. i tried to install the Apple Digital Camera Raw update. but it says that i dont need it.

Apparently there are a lot of people out there (I guess they work for Dell) saying, "Dude, go find the Digital Camera Raw Update for PowerPC... it's out there", but like believers in Atlantis, they're either going on hearsay, or they've found it and want to preserve the secret. Well I'm busting it wide open. Here's the version for PC: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/digitalcamerarawsupportupdate101ppc.html
I downloaded it, installed it and restarted, and my pics showed up without my having to re-import.

You'll need to update to at least ACR 8.2 for the 70D to be recognized.  The normal way to update PSE12 to the latest CR is to use Help / Updates in the Editor which should update to ACR 8.5.
According to Adobe's website PSE12 shipped with ACR 8.1 and you say it says yours is reported as ACR 8.0.
Are you using PSE 11 and not 12?  PSE 11's maximum ACR version is 8.0.

  • Elements 12 does not open nef raw files depsite having latest raw plug-in

Help please - wasted far too much time trying to open my raw files with recently purchased elements 12. I have tried to ensure all software is up-to-date but still the message that the raw file is not supported appears when I try to open with Camera Raw . The files open in nikon software and windows.  My camera is a Nikon D7100.

As a test, try copying a nef file from your camera to computer without using nikon transfer and see if it opens in pse 12.
Which version of windows are you using?
If in the photoshop elements 12 editor you go to Help>About Plug-In and click on the words Camera Raw, what version does it say?

  • Not opening multiple RAW files

If i open a Raw file in Bridge, it opens up perfectly. Also my jpegs and tiff open in RAW, so no problem there. The problem is, that I cannot open multiple Raw files from Bridge into Raw with the option "open in Camera Raw" So the shortcut cmd+R ( I am on a mac) does not work. It says that Raw has to be opened at least once. I have been using Raw for years now so it has been opened multiple times.
I Can not seem to find a solution. I would really like to open up multiple edited Raw files at once, and in Raw give the order to rename them into JPEG. If you do that, you see Photoshop CC and a window that says how many convertions are left. So far so good...  but before, I was able to open up some new raw files in Camera Raw without having to wait for Photoshop to convert everything. Now I have to wait for a long time before I can make my new Edits. Can somebody please help me?
I am using all updated software.

    Hello SSPRENGEL,
Thank you very much for your reply. My apologies for the mess up with RAW and ACR naming.
The situation is, that I can not open any file with CMd-R. I can open single files with CMD-O. But I need to open multiple files at ones with CMD-R. It used to work good.
The problem is, That I am in the business of school photography. I take the pictures as RAW files on an Nikon camera (nef) After I ajust all the pictures, I have to rename all of them to JPEG, just to get them online.
I used to do that with ACR. But now the problem is, if I open a lot of picures with CMD-O, It opens up very good in ACR and I still can give the command to save all of these as JPEG. It workt great, but I have to wait a looooooong time before I can open up my next batch of pictures and start to adjust those. Normally, it would save the files as JPEG and I was able to open up a new batch of pictures in ACR right away. That saves me A LOT OF TIME. This only works if you can open the files with CMS-R. Strange...
I updated my I-mac to 10.9.1 so I see that is not the newest. PS-CC is 14-2-1 x64 and I am using the beta ACR for now (8.4)
I just tried to open a RAW file in photoshop with the normal open command and it lauches ACR perfectly. But again from within Adobe bridge I still get the same error about needing to open a qualifying product at least once.
    Stange isn't it?
Thank you very much for your time!

  • PS CS2 can't open D80 Raw files even with correct plug-in

I am on a PC running Photoshop CS2. I cannot open RAW images from my Nikon D80. I have installed the Camera RAW plug-in (3.6) as instructed. The files still won't open. I'm very frustrated.

No, you are not doing things correctly yet. The DNG converter is a separate, stand-alone program. It does not require Photoshop or any other program other than your operating system to run. You use it to convert your raw images to the Digital negative (DNG) format, and then you would open those DNG files with Photoshop CS and the correctly installed Camera Raw 2.4. The DNG files still contain all of the raw data, and you can achieve the same results from those files as you can the original raw files from your camera. If you are not willing or able to update your version of Photoshop, then this is the route you will have to go in order to work on your raw images.
Added later: since the DNG converter is a separate program, it can be placed anywhere on your computer. I find it easy to simply leave it on the desktop so that I can drag the images from my camera (via card reader) onto the DNG converter. Then all you have to do is follow the prompts in the DNG converter to configure the conversion the way you want it.

  • Bridge does not open camera raw files

I am having this issue with the bridge not opening cr2 files in acr. I have a new mac and installed CS6 with 7,4 acr. Has anyone come up with a solution to this bug?
    The error message is :
camera raw editing is not enabled camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched once to enable this feature
I really would prefer to not uninstall this product and it is not the case that I have another trial copy. I have searched my computer and cannot find any.
Thanks for any new ideas on this bug.

I noticed that there are still adobe folders for photoshop and premiere on the computer. Should I just delete those folders?
Use Easy Find (Devon) and run Adobe in search field. From the list select the folders that you have doubt about and choose Show in finder option. Then look at the content. If it are custom settings like actions, tools, brushes best keep them save.
But to be totally on the save side select all search result and copy them to a separate disk as Back Up so you can always find some lost customized settings back. All other deleted files should be reinstalled as per new install on new disk.
I would like to get it right this time. I was also wondering if I can still download the dmg directly from adobe or is that not available anymore.
If you have bought a download version of the Master Collection for CS6 then their should be a possibility to download it again using your Adobe ID. The new CC can be downloaded again using ACC.
Otherwise you have to contact Adobe customer support for a new copy or download.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 not open new raw files

Canon 70D camera software open images ok, byt Photoshop Elements not. Windows 8.
Adobe DNG Converter 8.2 not work!!!!
Are mast BY new adobe Elements 12???

    Hi,
As you have found out PSE 10 will not access EOS 70D Raw images directly but the DNG converter should work.
The DNG converter works on folders
You need to first copy the RAW files from your card/camera into a folder on your PC.
I suggest that you then create another folder to take the converted files
Then load the DNG Converter and give it the input and output folders and hit the convert button
The DNG files created should then be able to be processed by PSE 10
If you are failing, can you give more details like where and how it fails.
If you decide to upgrade to PSE 12, you must do an update after you have finished the install so that it will read the 70D raw files.

  • SC2 not opening Camera RAW files

Yes, I'm still using CS2. I recently picked up a Canon EOS Rebel XS. But Photoshop will not open any of the cr2 files that I've taken.
I have the latest RAW plugin for CS2: 3.7.
I'd prefer to not convert using the DNG converter. But if I have to, what am I losing?
    Thanks

Is there any information lost or compressed by using a DNG converter?
DNG Converter can do lossless compression if you ask it to in the prefs. But no, aside from a very small number of cameras (very early Canons and the current Sigma cameras) nothing is lost when converting to DNG except for the ability to use the original camera maker's software. So, if there's a change you might want to use that, you should prolly keep not only the DNG but also the proprietary raw files too.

  • ACR (CS5 Bridge) not opening all RAW files

I upgraded to CS5 last week and I'm having a problem with processing some RAW files. If I select ALL the images in a folder in Bridge and right click to open in ACR it doesn't open ALL the images - there are missing images and I cannot for the life of me figure out why it won't open these images up. I've also tried to select one of those omitted images in Bridge and right click to open up in ACR it still won't open it but if I double click it'll open it in ACR but only via PS. I don't get why it won't open some files especially as they're shot with exactly the same camera - any ideas or has anyone else noticed this happening? Thanks in advance!

Make sure you have renamed the files correctly, i.e. with the appropriate three-letter extension and with no illegal characters in the file name.
If the files are correctly labeled, you might want to purge the cache for the folder through the Tools menu in Bridge.

  • I have updated my PSE9 and still can not open the RAW files from my new camera, I get an error?

I bought a new camera (Canon T5i) and took photos in RAW, tried to open them in PSE9 and they wouldn't open. I got the following error...
Canon RAW Codec found a new CR2 file that is not supported by the installed version.
You can download the Canon RAW Codec update program from the link below.
    (Canon Server)
I have been to the link & downloaded what update it had. I have also done the available updates on my PSE9 and I am still getting this error messge. When I called Canon regarding this they said I needed to contact Adobe.
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or not doing so I can open these files???

The T5 is supported by Camera RAW 8.4 which needs PSE12. You can use the Canon software to convert RAW to TIF or the Adobe DNG Converter. The converter will convert the CR2 files to Adobes RAW DNG format that will open in PSE9's RAW processor. http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html#downloads.

  • Does preview open native raw files?

I was hoping one of the techies could answer a question for me. I can open my Nikon .nef files in preview. But, is Preview really opeining the raw file itself, of the jpg that is bundled inside of it (the one used to display on the back of the camera)? Because I always shoot in raw and like to process the photos myself, but sometimes it is nice to have some jpgs to shoot to someone that already has some of the camera's built in processing applied. I do have a program that can automatically extract the jpg from the raw file, but I thought that if Preview did the same sort of thing, then you wouldn't need the program.
    Thanks

Preview (as well as iPhoto and Aperture) all open the Raw file using the RAw Camera Bundle which is part of the OS.
None of those have the ability to extract the embedded JPG preview  though Aperture (at least) will use that while it is decoding the Raw file the first time it opens the Raw image,
You can easily export a JPG version of the RAW file from any of those three applications.

  • Aperture refuse to open the RAW files from my new Nikon D7100.

Aperture refuse to open the RAW files from my new Nikon D7100. What can I do? Thanks for help!

the raw support of new cameras will be made with a Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update not with a aperture update. But when the new RAW- Update will arrive is not sure.
And that usually can only be installed with newer Aperture versions. You cannot use the latest raw support with Aperture 3.2.4, unless you are able to update to Aperture 3.4. And earlier raw support versions cannot be used with Aperture 2.
See the footnotes on the Raw Support page  http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html. That is why asked for the Aperture version.
** Requires Aperture 3 or later.
*** Requires Aperture 3.4 or later.

    Oh, dear.
If you use PSE as your external editor for iphoto, you need to save the images back to iphoto by using Save, not Save As and not changing anything like the name or format that would bring up the Save As window. (You may need to adjust the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing.)
OR you can export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, use file>open in the editor and then change whatever you want and either import the saved image to the organizer or import it back to iphoto as a new file. What you are doing is extremely risky, particularly to the iphoto library which you may easily damage by your workflow.
I would start the organizer holding down the shift key, then create a new catalog and switch to the new one. Then try opening the editor without opening an image and see if you get any farther.
PSE and iphoto are not designed to be used as you've been doing. You are trying to write to the iphoto library from outside iphoto, which is the fastest known way to corrupt the library and lose all your photos.
