Aperture not recognizing all saved & layered PSD files.

I have Aperture set to save PSD files. When I go to import my PSD's many of them but not all appear blacked out. When I actually try to import these files and view them in Aperture they are still black.
Any suggestions?
Thanks shane

Meaning you are previewing in the Finder?
That is possibly because you have an Alpha channel in the file.
If you learn to use Bridge CS4, instead of using the Finder, you won't have this problem.

All of a sudden Aperture is not recognizing my G-10 RAW files. It did yesterday, but not today. I just downloaded the new aperture update thinking that might change things, but no go. Just says "unsupported file format"
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Shane

What is your import workflow? Are you (appropriately) uploading images first to the hard drive before importing into Aperture? Was the card (appropriately) reformatted in-camera before shooting the new batch of pix?
Direct camera-to-Aperture or card-to-Aperture workflows can be problematic, as can using the computer for erasing card images or reformatting cards.

  • Saved layered .psd files display text in preview column

    Hi,
I have layered files that I have saved. When I view my files in column format, in the preview area, text appears, not the image. I can't read the text as it is so tiny. Even when I magnified it I couldn't red it. It just seems to happen to files saved as .psd, not to jpegs.
Has this happened to other people? If you have a solution, other than flattening the file, as I wish to save the layers, please help me. Thank you in advance.

  • Why is Photoshop Elements 8 not saving a psd file as a pdf now that I purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

Why is Adobe Elements 8 not saving a psd file as a pdf after I started using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro instead of my CS3 Pro? Both Adobe software is up to date and before I switched to Acrobat XI Pro, it worked fine. Help please...

You aren't talking to Adobe here. But still...Is it by any chance asking for a QUALIFYING product? If so, you purchased an UPGRADE and now need to give the serial number of the OLDER product (Acrobat 9 or X) which you must own to be able to use the upgrade. Simples.

  • Splitting high resolution in tiles, and saving them out as new cropped and layered psd file.

Hey there, my first post here.
I currently working with designing photos/images ceramic tiles.
My goal is to minimize the time it takes to split an image in equal tiles, and then having all layers put in a new layered psd-file and layers named after raws and columns.
Let say I have a bathroom wall 160X100 centimeters.
That would be 8x5 tiles, tiles are 20x20 cm I this case, 40 tiles.
Doing this manually when the work load increases would be impossible to manage.
Tried using slices, but there's gotta be a bug in relationship between pixels and millimeters/centimeters.
I divided the whole image in equally big slices 5 raws, 8 columns.
No matter what the pixels say, when the image is 1600x1000 mm, one would think the result would be 8 tiles X 5 tiles that are 200x200mm each!
But it turns out it differs 2 - 3 millimeters.
Would be glad if there was a different approach to this, either by a neat script or a plug in or something.
Images slicing in photoshop is only able to save out to web formats what I know of. I need it to be high resolution images 300dpi.
Hope th get some feedback and ideas on this.
    Thanks in advance

Xbytor has written a script that will spilt the document up.

i  accidently saved my psd file and lost all my design is there a way to get it back?!??!?!pls helppppp...
ps:i didnt delete it,i just clicked on save as wihtt he same name, but i dindt notice the design was missing, until i opened up the psd file again.
    thank you.

This is a Mac Photoshop forum, so it was a reasonable assumption. If you closed the file you are hooped unless you can access a backup.
Too late for this job, but you might want to install Dropbox. You get 2 GB of space for free on Dropbox’s servers, and any files saved in your My Dropbox (I think that’s what it’s called on Windows) folder are copied to Dropbox’s servers. The big deal is that you can share any files or folders with other users or other computers, so you could have the same folder on your work and home PCs and files saved on one are automatically updated and available on the other. The other big deal is that Dropbox keep old versions of files. I keep all working jobs in Dropbox and remove them only when complete and ready for archive. It is a huge bacon saver.

If you sign up using the above link I get a tiny increase in my allotted storage.

Buy Apple Airport Time capsule $280.  But I am not sure if it can store PSD layers. Can it or do you have to have Apple Apperture  software to act be sure layers are saved
I had had trouble getting Adobe Cloud to sync to save files and so just trusted my computer to not ever crash.  Any hints on this procedure
Are there any hints on PhotoShop image organization for a current IMac usser ?

My backup plan is to use Time Machine to make a backup to an external disk drive plus I also do a clone of my system disk. So far between the bootable clone and the Time Machine backup this plan has covered all of my needs.

  • Why are 'saved as' .psd files so much bigger than original raw nef files?

I was under the impression that original raw files were the biggest possible. I appear to be very wrong. Why are 'saved as' .psd files so much bigger than original raw nef files?
I'm beginning to think that saving them as psd is a bad idea.
Yes, though I've heard all the arguments of keepng the original raw files (For ex. Did you throw away the negatives when you were using film) I se eno purpose in keeping them. Once I've made the initial adjustments--cropping, color correction etc. I don't feel a need to ever go back and never do. Most of my work is done in Photoshop and I like it that way--but suddenly finding myself with such huge files doesn't appeal to me at all--and other formats like tif...well never mind for now.

Good point made c.pfaffenbichler however, my thinking is this--there is time spent on the raw file and then there is much more time spent on (usually a psd) the file once in Photoshop. For me to then go back to the orignal raw file, after having worked on it on PS would mean getting rid of all the work (larger amount of work, time wise and artistic wise) done on PS which seems pointless. Although the psd file does show your layers and stuff it only shows the end results of that layer. It does not show from where to where you pointed your brush, from what point to what point you changed the color or part of an image etc. etc.Anyhow I understand why most people keep their raw files, but this is the main reason why I do not. It would mean hours of work on an image you already worked on (and usually were satisfied with) to perhaps make some minor alteration. Also please note that though I was noce a pro photog, no I do it mostly for fun. Getting the exact red in my Coca Cola can has never been of importance. On the other hand, if there were a way of working on a raw file within Photoshop and keep it (save it as) a raw file equivalent, then I would absolutely do so.

  • Motion having issues with layered PSD files.  Adds more to images

Motion is distorting my layered PSD files in a way that I can't seem to figure out how to fix. Here are two examples of what I'm talking about:
    http://www.coyopa.com/motion_problem.jpg
    http://www.coyopa.com/motion_problem2.jpg
There are two PSD images. The person is one layer and the background is the other. As you can see with the background layer turned on, the image is stretched or smeared. When the background layer is turned off, elements from the distorted background are appearing, such as the extended black shoulder or the line coming out of the head.
The images I started with with were high res scans saved as grayscale TIFs. I converted them to PSD and switched the color space to RGB. I did my work in Photoshop and imported them into Motion which is when the problems began.
I suspect the problem may be my graphics card which is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT. I am running Motion 3.0.2 and Leopard 10.5.8. My Motion project settings are XDCAM EX 1080p30.

I'm having a similar problem, but changing the resolution to the exact max of 2896x2896 doesn't work for me...and neither does any smaller resolution for some reason.
Today, my layered PSD file is at least not experiencing the crazy tile-effect you included in your posted images, but it is now:
    1) always converting the top layer of the PSD file to a flattened image of the whole file.
    2) ignoring/mutating my alpha channel information, as areas that should be transparent and smoothly masked off are now opaque and/or blocky.
My images are large, but I need to keep them large for dollying in real closely when i fly a camera through the scene. This is not a problem in After Effects, but I also need to do a lot of these 2.5D animations and several need particle/replicator effects... and I just work much much faster in Motion than AE. I don't remember having this problem with Motion 3 at all, but I can't say I've done a scientific comparison (nor do I want to uninstall M4 for M3).

  • Can't save layered .psd files in Photoshop CS3

    Hello,
I noticed yesterday that I can no longer save layered .psd files to any folder. What does get saved is only a generic file symbol.
I'm using a Dell 8200 computer, 1GB of RAM, IntelPentium4 processer, Windows XP Professional, and a Canon MP780 multiple function printer.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    George Masi

Is it saved incorrectly, or is the problem just that the icon is the generic one. In other words, can you A) click to open the file from the desktop. And, b) if you can't click from the desktop, can you open the file from within Photoshop, and see the layers correctly.
If B works, and A does not, then this means your Windows has lost the association between PSD files and Photoshop. You can often correct this by right clicking the file, and choosing Open With, with the Always open with this program field checked. There is also a way to set the icons back up, but this is more complicated.

  • Photoshop saved a PSD file with security permissions, and now I can't access it.  Please help!

Using Photoshop CC, I saved a PSD file after several hours of editing.  I also exported a TIF file from the PSD.  After closing Photoshop, I cannot access either file in any way.  I cannot even copy them.
going to properties --> security, I get a message that reads, "You must have Read permissions to view the properties of this object."  Click Advanced to continue.
When I click Advanced, it says "Unable to display current owner", and in none of the three tabs available (Permissions, Auditing, or Effective Access) can I click "Continue" and get any further than the message, "You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings".
Please help me.  This is highly frustrating, and a bug that is costing me over an hour of my time troubleshooting.
    Thank you.
    UPDATE:
I rebooted, and the files are... gone. Photoshop CC has no record of the file under "Open Recent".
What just happened? I lost a good 2 hours of work and a unique photograph
    UPDATE2
I restarted the project, saved a PSD with Maximize Compatibility selected.  Verified this file has appropriate permissions.
When I then go to File --> Save (not "Save as", but "Save"), after progressing to 90% or so, an error message comes up, "Could not save 'O:\[path]\file.PSD' because the file name was not valid."
I click "OK", and then go to the original file and check its permissions.  They are now changed to "You must have read permissions".

I have this exact problem too. Windows 8.1 CC 2014 and all of a sudden I get the problems AIJ23 has. Say I have 8 files open, I save the first 3 or four, just with Control-S (saving in PSD format) no problem, then all of a sudden on the next save I get a message saying I don't have permission to save over the file followed by the same problems as above. I use Save As so I don't loose my work but I cannot delete/rename/change permissions of the original file. This only started happening about 2-3 days ago and only happens in Photoshop. I haven't managed to find much about this issue anywhere.

  • Aperture Not Recognizing Duplicates When Importing From iPhone. PhotoStream is Involved.

Apple makes great software. Aperture is not some of it.
    Here's my setup:
'11 MacBook Air OS X Lion
    Aperture 3.2.2
    iPhone 4 ios 5.0
1.5 TB External Drive. Aperture Masters and Library reside there, separate from each other.
I keep my photos in a structure such as: Aperture Masters > Year > Month > Date > original_photo_name
I'm running into trouble with Aperture not recognizing what photos are duplicates when it comes time to import photos. My workflow is that I'll import photos every so often, leaving them on the iPhone, and delete them twice a year.
    ISSUE 1 (The Annoying One):
Aperture is showing a lot of photos that have already been imported even if I select "Don't Import Duplicates". Aperture has done this for a long time. I know that when it comes time to importing them, it doesn't import the duplicates, but this is just a sign that something doesn't work very well. (Maybe it's because I switched to an iPhone 4S and then back. I synced all my photos, and then back again to my iPhone 4, so the sequential number of the photos remained intact. I don't think that's the problem though.). This is just a minor annoyance that shows that Apple can suck at software (remember MobileMe?).
    ISSUE 2 (The serious one):
short version: Some photos on my iPhone won't sync to my Aperture library because it thinks they've been synced through PhotoStream. They are not in my Aperture Library or in my Aperture Masters in the filesystem. How can I fix this. What bloody file do I have to delete for Aperture to stop being confused?
longer explanation: When iOS 5 came out, I was excited by PhotoStream. I had enabled it on my MBA, through iPhoto (I hadn't installed Aperture on it yet, as I was using an iMac to manage my Aperture Library). I believe it synced a bunch of photos from my iPhone, but then I stopped using it on my mac. Left it on on my iPhone. Installed Aperture. I initially enabled PhotoStream but swiftly disabled it once I was not sure how it would deal with photos being uploaded from my mac etc - just seemed like too much magic was going on. I then proceeded to sync my iPhone, not importing duplicates, and it synced a bunch of photos, but didn't sync some of them, displaying the following message:
Any tips on how to fix this and be able to import those images would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I thought that iPhoto might be causing the problem. I checked there and there were some images imported through PhotoStream, but not some of the ones which were not imported on Aperture. Putting that another way: the iPhoto library accounted for some of the images that were not imported, but not all of them. I deleted the iPhoto Library and tried reimporting with Aperture. Still no luck.

I have precisely the same problem. Very annoying. Worked fine with iPhoto, borked with Aperture 3.

I can't believe I didn't see that! I scanned them in 24-bit color but they are B&W images anyways, so I'm not sure why or how they ended up as 8-bit greyscale... maybe has something to do with the lousy HP dinosaur-of-a-scanner and it's weird proprietary HP interface (couldn't get it to interface with PS4 and don't use it enough to fuss with it).

  • Is it possible when saving the psd file to have an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?

My work involves preparing images for printing lightboxes and window installations.  My clients require to pre-approve the photos before printing.
I usually save my files as psd but since the files are very large in this format I usually save another copy as a jpg file that has a much smaller file size.  This makes it possible for me to add these to a presentation and and send them to my client.
Is it possible when saving the psd file to have an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?  Or do I still have to do this manually?

If you save the document manually as a PSD file in Phtoshop not from within an Action, Script, Plugin or Droplette.  You may be able to write a Photoshop that would do as save as Jpeg,  And you should be able trigger its execution by setting up a Script Save event using the Script event manager.  When You do a manual save  the script should be triggered.  I wrote may be able to for I have never tried to write that script or set up a Script Manager Save event.  I have only use open events.

  • Create simple layered .psd file from selected photos in PSE 10?

I'm wondering if there is any way to take a group of photos -- either selected in Organizer or in Editor or in a File Browser -- and layer them all into a PSD file or drop them "in mass" onto a existing file in Editor.  I have two uses...one is to layer a bunch of tonemapped files from Luminance to create HDR art -- in this case, all the layers are directly on top of each other (and usually the same size), with the original on the bottom, then I adjust layer modes and opacity of the tonemapped versions to create art (this link is very out of date but gives you the idea: https://picasaweb.google.com/117811553538459876302/HDRPhotoMagic).  The other use is to create a scrapbook page -- I'd like to select a bunch of elements ("paper" -- textured 12x12 image, elements, photos, etc) and have them all added to a file so that I can move them around, etc. These will all be different sizes. Sometimes I have the page already (a layered template for example), and would like to drop in additional layers.
Currently, I create a blank document, select my photos in Organizer, use Ctrl-I to open them all in the editor, and then drop everything one by one into my blank file, then close all the windows that I no longer need. However, it's cumbersome, and it seems the process could easily be automated.
Any thoughts on how to make this easier?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

Open the script into Notepad and add the lines as shown in the screenshot, then save the script as a .jsx file instead of a .js file to your desktop.
Then move or copy the script to the pse 10 presets scripts folder, start or restart pse 10 and the script should be listed under the File>Automation Tools menu.
