Aperture Not Recognizing iPhone Jpegs

Has anyone else had a problem with Aperture having issues with jpegs from iPhones while having no problems with jpegs out of other cameras?
The problem is characterized by selected jpegs turning back and displaying a triangle with exclamation mark and  words declaring that the image is an unsupported format. It also appears to affect some (but not all) iPhone images at time of import leading to the inability to import batches of images from the iPhone while having no problems with either RAW or jpegs from my Panasonic GH2
This problem has happened to me twice now and the only solution that works is rebuilding the Aperture Library.
I find it strange that it affects iPhone images only and wonder if this is a known Aperture issue or not.

Upon further testing, it looks like maybe the photos I took with "Camera Genius", a third party camera app don't save the camera model as part of the metadata. Looks like only the photos taken with the actual Apple camera app will log the camera as an iPhone.
So, question #2. How can I change the camera/model metadata (painlessly please ) of those that are "unknown"?

  • Aperture not recognizing iPhone 3GS as a camera?

I decided to pull my iPhone photos into Aperture. However, some of the photos show correct camera metadata as being from my 3GS, but others show "unknown camera".
There appears to be no rhyme nor reason, i.e. the first photo I took with my phone shows the correct metadata, whereas most others (randomly) do not.
    Any ideas?

  • Aperture Not Recognizing Duplicates When Importing From iPhone. PhotoStream is Involved.

Apple makes great software. Aperture is not some of it.
    Here's my setup:
'11 MacBook Air OS X Lion
    Aperture 3.2.2
    iPhone 4 ios 5.0
1.5 TB External Drive. Aperture Masters and Library reside there, separate from each other.
I keep my photos in a structure such as: Aperture Masters > Year > Month > Date > original_photo_name
I'm running into trouble with Aperture not recognizing what photos are duplicates when it comes time to import photos. My workflow is that I'll import photos every so often, leaving them on the iPhone, and delete them twice a year.
    ISSUE 1 (The Annoying One):
Aperture is showing a lot of photos that have already been imported even if I select "Don't Import Duplicates". Aperture has done this for a long time. I know that when it comes time to importing them, it doesn't import the duplicates, but this is just a sign that something doesn't work very well. (Maybe it's because I switched to an iPhone 4S and then back. I synced all my photos, and then back again to my iPhone 4, so the sequential number of the photos remained intact. I don't think that's the problem though.). This is just a minor annoyance that shows that Apple can suck at software (remember MobileMe?).
    ISSUE 2 (The serious one):
short version: Some photos on my iPhone won't sync to my Aperture library because it thinks they've been synced through PhotoStream. They are not in my Aperture Library or in my Aperture Masters in the filesystem. How can I fix this. What bloody file do I have to delete for Aperture to stop being confused?
longer explanation: When iOS 5 came out, I was excited by PhotoStream. I had enabled it on my MBA, through iPhoto (I hadn't installed Aperture on it yet, as I was using an iMac to manage my Aperture Library). I believe it synced a bunch of photos from my iPhone, but then I stopped using it on my mac. Left it on on my iPhone. Installed Aperture. I initially enabled PhotoStream but swiftly disabled it once I was not sure how it would deal with photos being uploaded from my mac etc - just seemed like too much magic was going on. I then proceeded to sync my iPhone, not importing duplicates, and it synced a bunch of photos, but didn't sync some of them, displaying the following message:
Any tips on how to fix this and be able to import those images would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I thought that iPhoto might be causing the problem. I checked there and there were some images imported through PhotoStream, but not some of the ones which were not imported on Aperture. Putting that another way: the iPhoto library accounted for some of the images that were not imported, but not all of them. I deleted the iPhoto Library and tried reimporting with Aperture. Still no luck.

I have precisely the same problem. Very annoying. Worked fine with iPhoto, borked with Aperture 3.

  • ITunes not recognizing iPhone 5 iO7 on Windows 7

I have exhausted myself dealing with this problem. My iTunes will not recognize my iPhone 5. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and my computer recognizes the phone when i plug it in, however, my iTunes does not so I am not able to sync any music. I have tried practically everything I have found on the internet to fix this problem and even the people at the Apple store could not help me with my problem. I have uninstalled and installed all Apple related programs, I have insured that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is working correctly but nothing seems to fix the problem. I just don't know what to do anymore because nothing seems to work. I have followed the suggestions contained in the following discussions but nothing seems to work. Thank you for your help.

Re: iTunes not recognizing iPhone 5
Feb 16, 2014 7:45 AM (in response to oryyx)
    Had this problem this morning.
Once in the past had to erase my iphone and reload it.That was unpleasant.
    This morning had the problem,too.
Plugged in my iphone directly into the Imac (not hub) then clicked shut down on the imac.
Pressed the button in the back while the iphone was still plugged in-and when rebooted iphone was visable in itunes.
    Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for your suggestion. I'm using a MacBook Air and I just tried this with my laptop - shutting down the computer all the say (not restarting it) and then booting it back up with the phone plugged in. It didn't work but it was worth a shot! Thank you!

I had this exact same problem and just figured out how to fix it. I had to reload the driver on the iphone5 in order for itunes to recognize the device. Follow the steps here to see if you might need to do the same thing. Once I reinstalled the driver, everything works fine and I'm now able to sync with itunes again.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have seen a TON of posts like mine where this is the solution. Unfortunately, I am on a Mac not Windows so the driver isn't the problem.

  • My PC not recognizing iPhone

My Pc not recognizing iPhone. I tryed a lot of ways but nothing help.

If its anything like what my pc does from time to time... Is that when I plug in , Itunes "locks" up for a period of time followed by it finally "letting go" and then not seeing my iphone.  Granted, I use an Iphone 4 but none the less I'm assuming this is the issue you are having.
What I do (cant take credit for this, learned from another user on these boards) is hold your home button and power button at the same time.  Let the iphone turn off and then turn it back on.  Plug it back in , and it should be seen.  If that does not work (does not always for me) try it when the usb cable plugged in.   One or the other usually does the trick for me.
    Good luck!

Mercedez Benz COMAND System not recognizing iPhone 5 after iOS 8 update, can we expect the same result with iPhone 6 or 6 plus?
I'm planning to purchase the 6 plus, but I need to know from where.whom will the fix for this problem emerge.

My new iPhone 6 paired perfectly with my Mercedes system.  That said, on your iPhone 5, reset your network settings and then try to pair it again.

  • Windows PC suddenly not recognizing iPhone. Recognizes another iPhone just fine. USB works until operating system in PC (XP) loads. Any clues out there?

Windows suddenly not recognizing iPhone, yet recognizes another iPhone fine (sees in iTunes, etc.) USB appears to be fine - passes electrical to iPhone until operating system (XP) boots, and then "disconnects". I've gone through all of Apples suggestions for troubleshooting - including msconfig. Same result - quick double "bong" tone and no connectivity to iTunes. Versions are all up-to-date.
    Any suggestions out there?

How did you get the VMWare sync to work? I hate Apple at this point.

  • PC not recognizing iPhone 3G

I have an iPhone 3G and for some reason my phone is no longer being recognized by my PC. Please help me figure this out.
I plug it in with its USB connector and my PC (running XP) no longer picks it up. Also, one of my iPhone capable music players does not register it. The last time it worked, I plugged it in and both the iPhone and PC would recognize each other and then not recognized each other; as if I was plugging and unplugging the USB connection repeatedly. I can still charge it through the wall charger and one of my other music players also recognizes it. I have received error messages from iTunes saying it encounter a read error, but now I don't get get an error message.
Please help me figure out why this happens.

I was able to get the device to work by stopping and then starting the Apple Mobile Device Service.

  • ITunes 8.2 not recognizing iPhone 3G

I have an Intel iMac and since the upgrade, iTunes is not recognizing my iPhone anymore. iPhoto does not open on its own anymore either. I have checked preferences etc., but cannot find how to correct this. I have also done a soft and hard reset on the iPhone.
    Thanks

    I'm having the same problem.
I saw that there was a new version of software available for my iPhone yesterday and decided to download it.
First I had to upgrade iTunes. I followed all the instructions but when the system restart occured, there was a glitch of some sort and it took a while for the installer to figure it out and fix it.
After *successfully validating the install*, it would not recognize my iPhone - which was connected to it moments before the install started. It repeatedly had me disconnect it and then reconnect it trying to see who's phone it was. Finally I rebooted again and it recognized the phone and downloaded and installed the new 3.0 operating system and then it re-sync'd the phone.
Everything was working fine at this point.
I eject the iPhone from the menu and later go to reconnect it to add some playlists I had made.
Again it does not recognize the iPhone - it knows one is there but can't figure out whose it is! Rebooting, disconnecting ect... doesnt help.
There is nothing in the Help Manual to steer me in the right direction.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • ITunes is not recognizing iPhone, iTunes is not recognizing iPhone

I am having no luck getting iTunes to recognize my iPhone. Is there anything that I can do so that I can transfer my music from phone to computer.

Do you have the latest ITunes 11.0.1?
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • Iphoto not recognizing iphone?

I cant get iphone to download photos not even an option in iphoto.

Same problem here, photo sync used to work fine, stopped all of a sudden. I wanted to sync before the 1.0.2 update just in case, and I had about 200 photos outstanding. Plugged in phone, not recognized in iPhoto or image capture. Rebooted mac (G5 dual), reset iPhone, plugged in again, nothing. There were a couple of timeouts on the USB bus in the log that looked suspicious.
I was now at the "grasping at straws" stage, so I grabbed the USB cable that was included in the iPhone box and tried that (I had been using the USB cable that came with an iPod). This was -really- grasping at straws and really hoping for magic, since the phone with the other cable was working fine syncing with iTunes....just not the photos.
So unplugged the old cable, used the new one, and it worked. Freaky. To double-verify, I went back to the iPod cable, and it also worked now. Double freaky.
So, who knows. But it might be worth a shot to try the original cable if you're using a different one. Switching USB ports maybe would help as well? Or just plug it in, leave it for a few seconds, and then unplug both ends of the cable and plug it back. Nothing makes much sense, but these activities apparently fixed it for me.

Photos on my iPhone 5s are not being imported to iPhoto.  Device seemingly is not recognized.

You might need to reset and/or restore the iphone.

  • Image Capture App Not recognizing Iphone

Using a MBP with 10.5 with most recent updates. Running iphone 1.14
Iphoto does not import my pictures from my iphone. This is because image capture doesn't recognize it.
I have read many posts about this and will let you know what I have tried so far.
    - Disabled auto syncing in itunes and image capture
    - deleted the plist for iphoto, image capture, and preview.
    - reinstalled image capture from original leopard cd using pacifist.
    - reset and rebooted both devices many times.
I have an alternate install of OS X Leopard on an external USB drive which works well with my iphone and image capture, shows up right away.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be. I have given up, tried everything I could think of, but I know the problem lies with image capture not recognizing the iphone.

Already tried a connection without a hub, on both usb ports on the macbook.
As for secondary software that might interfere, none installed to my knowledge.
Well it looks like the mac quote of "it just works" doesnt work in my situation, I dont feel like booting to my second hard drive just to sync the photos. So I guess I will have to wait until my new macbook for a fresh install because I dont want to erase everything currently on my book.
might try and install and archive next time I have some serious software issues and hopefully that will solve my problems.

  • Aperture not recognizing Canon G-10 RAW Files?

All of a sudden Aperture is not recognizing my G-10 RAW files. It did yesterday, but not today. I just downloaded the new aperture update thinking that might change things, but no go. Just says "unsupported file format"
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Shane

What is your import workflow? Are you (appropriately) uploading images first to the hard drive before importing into Aperture? Was the card (appropriately) reformatted in-camera before shooting the new batch of pix?
Direct camera-to-Aperture or card-to-Aperture workflows can be problematic, as can using the computer for erasing card images or reformatting cards.
