  • Drag and drop from Aperture not working?

This sounds like a pretty stupid issue but... when I attempt to drag & drop an image from Aperture (to anywhere, e.g. desktop, iweb, mail) it usually doesn't let me. Some photos will drag out but most won't (Two pictures of the identical format and size - one will let me drag&drop it and the other won't), and the export feature takes forever. I tried making sure that aperture is maintaining the previews and that the file to export is half size but still not working... any ideas?

Not stupid at all. That's a feature I use all the time and I'd be pretty PO'd if it wasn't working.
Your profile doesn't indicate whether you're running Aperture 3.x or not. Did the problem appear after an update or has it always been that way on your installation?

  • Aperture not working on new MacBook Air

I have a new 11" MAcBook Air and bought Aperture from the App store. I keep getting an error message saying that this version may not work with this operating system. Have deleted and re-installed. Any ideas?

Same problems using Aperture on my macbook air bought in march 2011.  Apple telephone sales said that it would work but today an Apple Aperture Engineer advised me to avoid trying to use Aperture on a macbook air.  I bought Aperture 3 pre-installed at the recommendation of the Apple representative.  Many hours of phone calls to Apple and 6 Apple 1-2-1 lessons on Aperture has been a waste of my time and money.  The macbook air, super drive and extended warranty are useless and I spent $1976 dollars on this fiasco.  Apple is so far unwilling to make amends.  I need to buy a new Macbook Pro + aperture 3 + extended care. $3250.  Game set and match Apple.

  • Problem with Maverics: Can not sign in to App Store, Mac slow, Aperture not working

I was using a Mac Book Pro 15" supplied with Snow Leopard. I have created an ID and used it to purchase apps such as Aperture. After buying an iPhone 5S, I wanted to share the contacts and was suggested by the seller to upgarde the Snow Leoprad to Maverics and use the iCloud. After installing the Maverics following happened:
    - I can use iCloud and share the contacts, mission completed
    - the Mac is running slow, really slow (as an old pc)
    - Aperture can not be used, a major problem since all of my photos are stroed on an external disk via Apeture
    - I can not sign in to App Sore to refresh my purchases and see if there is an update for Aperture
    - I tried to sign in by clicking the forgot password and entering my ID (e-mail address) but have received no mail - total mistery
    - I also see that the HP 7610 printer icon is not active and assume that will also be a problem
What should I do? I need a fast running computer. I need Aperture, all of my private and business photos are accessible only via Aperture. I can sign in with the same ID/password on an iPad. The problem is obviously due to installing the Maverics. I do not have a time machine/capsule.
    Urgently need support, please help.

Just for the record, you should enter your Apple ID ([email protected]) and password...
Provided you did that and it doesn't work:
You're using an account with parental control active?
Do other logins with your Apple ID work? E.g. icloud.com, iTunes, ...?
Correction: I did correctly enter my Apple ID and its password. And there are no parental controls.
But I found a fix: I went to the Featured page and it showed me as logged in. I clicked the Account link and in the pop-up for that entered my Apple ID and Password. Now I can once again see my Purchases.
It would seem to have been some undue delay or glitch at the Apple server end.

  • Aperture not working following upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Until now I have been running OS X 10.5 and have regularly checked and updated software. For photo's I originally purchased Aperture 2 and recently upgraded to Aperture 3 (using an upgrade disc rather than a full version) and all was working fine.
Today I upgraded to OS X 10.6.3, using a Snow Leopard upgrade disc purchased from an Apple shop, then completed a software update which has taken me to OS X 10.6.5 but Aperture will now not launch I just get a pop up stating that "Aperture cannot be opened because of a problem" and then suggesting that I need to check with the developer to make sure that Aperture works with this version of Mac OS X.
I am clearly using the latest version of Aperture and the latest OS X system so am stumped.
I have also attempted to reinstall Aperture using my Aperture 2 disc (still wont launch) then the Aperture 3 upgrade disc (still wont work).
Any help or guidance would be appreciated
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forums!
    Have you tried the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics detailed here;

Also as you have just updated software and OS run Disk Utility on your disks.

  • Photostream in Aperture not working correctly

I have turned on Photostream on my Mac and in Aperture. Photos taken with my iPhone appear in my photo stream, and also in the photo stream in Aperture.
However, photos I import into Aperture from my camera do NOT appear in photo stream. Also, even if I drag and drop photos in Aperture into the Photo Steam folder thing, I get the "updating photo stream" status bar message in Aperture, but the photos never appear.
    This is driving me crazy.

I have the EXACT same problem...All worked well for months.  A few days ago the problem started in the middle of an import in Aperture.  Half the pics got through, made it to the folder and streamed to my other devices before it stopped working...and now it won't work at all.  Since its working the other way (when a pic is taken from my iO5 devices they appear in the Aperture Photostream folder) it makes me think this is an Aperture problem.
Curious if you've figured anthing out...I may reset photostream to see if that works but I don't want to lose my handy photostream file with 1000 pics on it.

  • Older version of Aperture not working on New MacBook Pro

Hi there I have a new Mac Book and my version of Aperture wont run.
I successfully installed it and have run all updates but still no joy.
I get the message 'You can’t use this version of the application aperture with this version of the Mac OS X' 'You have Aperture 1.5.1'
Is it my Mac Operating system?
I have tried downloading the Aperture 2.1.4 but its says I need at version 2.0 to run that update.

There's a 2.0.1 update [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL115] but I don't know if that would work for you or not.
The end of your last post was garbled
I have tried to get version 2.0 but its not available and just me to Aperture 3 download
so I'm not sure what you were asking here.

  • Aperture Not Working After Updating to OS 10.10.3

I have updated to the latest version of the OS and my legitimate copy of Aperture has been inoperable since the update. Apple has sent an email to everyone with a registered copy of Aperture stating that it still will work after the update but that is not the case. I feel lied to and I have about 200,000 photos across 7 Aperture libraries and this new "Photos" app lacks the professional tools that I need. I was going to transition to other options but I didn't feel the need to right away since they said it would be fine.
Is there some update patch I am missing? I would like to think they didn't abandon the few of us that use it and love the program for what it was. (See images below.)

What is your current Aperture version?
Shortly before the Mac OS X 10.10.3 update, Apple released the compatibility update to Aperture 3.6., that you need to install.
If your current Aperture version is Aperture 3.5.1,Aperture  should be showing at the AppStore on your Purchases tab.  If you are seeing Aperture there, move your crossed out Aperture application from the Applications folder to the Trash (but do not empty the Trash).
Then try to download and install Aperture from the Purchases tab of the AppStore.

  • Aperture PS CS3/4 Aperture, not working since Snow Leopard install...

Since installing Snow Leopard today I have been unable to export/edit from Aperture to Photoshop CS3/4 and back again!!!
I have tried it with both CS3 and CS4 as I have both installed. Aperture corrupts the thumbnail on export to both apps, they then open the file in both versions of PS but when you go to save after editing you get a message saying the file is open and you can't save it!!!
It seems to me it's an obvious Snow Leopard issue as it worked perfectly before I upgraded but now I am screwed for editing until a fix is sorted, any suggestions???

I am not having that problem. I can edit with CS4 an image that was previously edited with CS4 and also one that was not previously edited at all.
Did you upgrade Aperture to 2.1.4 before Snow ?

  • Aperture not working after update.

    Hello,
I just updated to OS 10.7.5 and also updated to Aperture ver. 3.4 (auto-updater) and now Aperture won't open, it just crashes.  I tried reinstalling, but it didn't help.  Another app. Canon EOS Utility also stopped working, I also reinstalled this to no avail.  I was using both of these programs yesturday with no problems.
    Can Anyone help with this?
      Thanks in advance.

Deleting the .plist file will not cause you to delete the program or any images.
Make sure you are looking for the .plist in your user library folder and not the system library folder...by default, the OS hides your user library folder from view...there are lots of ways to "unhide" it, but my preference is to do this:  http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
This will unhide it permanently so that the next time there is some kind of problem you will be able to easily delete the offending preferences file.
Once you have done this, you can now go to ~/Library/Preferences/ and locate the com.apple.Aperture.plist file and delete it (where ~ represents your home folder, whatever you call it).
If this does not solve your problem, you can reinstall the application, which takes a lot more time.

  • Aperture not working to get import previews and thus import images

I cannot seem to get images to appear int eh Import Window's preview pane, and thus cannot import them. I have some 1600 images from a recent shoot in a sub-folder on an external drive (in two locations actually) and Aperture is not hunting them down. I have tried importing files on the desktop as a test and the same problem, no previews and no chance to import. All my OS and Aperture updates are installed and I did a restart to no avail.
I know that this version of Aperture, along with the user manually select to not import into a New Project (grip for Apple dev if they are reading), that previews take long to load and freeze the Import process on my setup. So, it could be that it is taking forever to get 1600 previews, but viewing them in a finder window shows no problems getting previews.
Any pointers as to what the problem might be?

I have occasionally had this problem and found either waiting a while or cancelling the Import and then retrying the Import (and being patient) works.
The workflow I use includes giving a custom master/version name to the appropriate images from the camera, such as "Judy in the Garden", importing those pics of Judy, and then supplying another master/version name, such as "Punch Drunk" for the appropriate images of Punch, importing those, and so on. So it can take many iterations to pull all the images in. Often the imports work as you would expect but then suddenly, nothing appears to happen and cancel and I redo it. My suspicion is Aperture is busy doing some housekeeping or other (or hung) but since a retry or two does the trick, I don't worry about it.

  • Tagging Facebook albums created in Aperture not working

I'm trying to publish a Facebook album from within Aperture (3.6), and am having trouble getting the tags to stick in Facebook. When I go visit the album on Facebook, the tags are there, but not actually linked to the people. For example My friend John Doe, would be tagged in the photo in grey writing, but it is not a clickable link, and when I go to John's Facebook page, he hasn't been tagged in it.
I suspect the issue is related to this forum post: Facebook contacts not syncing
When I go to John Doe's Faces entry, it shows the correct contacts entry.
When I go to the contacts entry, it has his Facebook profile under the "Facebook" field, but there is no small F under his contact picture, and when I tell os X to update all profile pictures his does not get updated. Also, it seems that my Facebook syncing is not syncing all my Facebook friends, only a select few, who I suspect meet the criteria discussed in the above thread. So, what I suspect is happening, is that Aperture thinks that John's faces entry is connected to a Facebook account (possibly from some legacy link with contacts) but Facebook's new policy is making it so that John's contact is not being synced from Facebook to iCloud.
I can't figure out a way to manually link his contact card to his Facebook account. Entering his Facebook homepage web address does nothing as far as I can tell.
Any help would be appreciated. It ***** spending all the time tagging faces in aperture and then having to re-do it in Facebook.
PS: Running Yosemite, all programs up to date as of nov 22, 2014
    Edited for spelling

It shows for me within a minute.  I don't have Facebook enabled.  I would:
    - reboot and see if that forces the tieing of any loose ends, and thus allows this feature to work
    - maybe try it on a new Library, or a Library used in another User Account on your machine
    - see if someone who does use Facebook tries the feature and reports on whether it works
I'm confident Library size/number of Images is not part of the issue, unless you have several thousand named Faces.
Just to make sure we are "on the same page":  you go to Contacts, select a contact, double-click the picture assigned to that contact, and never see "Faces" in this dialog:

  • Watermarks in Aperture not working for me

I am having an odd problem with Aperture watermarks through the export presets.
When I select "choose image" button after selecting the watermark check box, then select my watermark (which I have tried PSD's, JPEGS, Tiffs with transparent backgrounds, and just about every other format) it does not show up in the little viewer window. The only way that I can get it to show up is to drag my PSD or Tiff files from the finder into the box, where at that time they actually show up.
However, upon changing the Opacity, the watermark that has been dragged into the box from finder promptly disappears. Not good.
When I do not fiddle with the opacity bar and just click OK then try and export, the images come out without any watermark. But all the settings are the same as I left them, just the box is empty, just like when I change the opacity.
I have read about people having problems with aperture 1.5 concerning watermarks, but I am running 2.1.3 and have not run into any people saying that they have problems.
The PSD/tiff files that I am try to import are 5000 pixels long and 500 pixels wide or 10000 long and 1000 high. Big, I know, but I select scales down so it should be no problem, especially when shooting on the 5DII or D3x I can still use these watermarks without having to create new ones just for the bigger guns.
Is this a bug or a problems only I am having?
    Should I re-install?
Or just deal with not getting to watermark my images.

    Sara,
    What happens if you:
    1) Select all/any mutually overlapping bone parts and Pathfinder>Unite,
    2) Select all the bone parts and Object>Compound Path>Make,
    3) Select everything and Object>Clipping Mask>Make?

    User/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plugins
There is another Plug-ins folder which might be harbouring incompatible plug-ins. The one previously mentioned by Grant was the one in your own home directory. Anything installed in there is only available to you when you are logged in. If another user logs in on your computer with their own account - say, a member of your family - then your 'private' plug-ins are unavailable to them.
When you want to install a resource like a plug-in for everyone who uses your computer, you'd use the 'global' (top level) Library hierarchy. So also check this folder for Aperture plug-ins:
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
To avoid confusion, this Library folder means the one at the top level of your hard disk (that's what the / at the beginning signifies). Double-click on the hard disk icon on your desktop and the window which appears is the top level of your hard disk.
Sometimes software (plug-ins, fonts, etc) are licensed at a computer level - for anyone who has an account on a given computer - and sometimes a license is restricted for your specific personal use. That's one of the main reasons why this level of control is required/available.
