Aperture on it's last legs?

I have been having increasing problems with aperture, i use it at my work to archive several thousand photos per month, and its been getting increasingly slow and unreliable, I've posted previously regarding other problems, but now ive hit a big one:
bascially it will not load the library.
i have tried disconnecting the library and creating a new one, and aperture will open then, so its not aperture, but something to do with the file or the size of the file.
When i try to connect to it it will load slowly, and show all the projects at the left side, but will show nothing else, thats when the spinning beach ball appears and wont go away. the computer doesnt freeze, just aperture.
I have the library as normal till the hard drive was around 100GB from full then began referencing them onto a new hard drive leaving the library on that one.
i have the library vaulted onto a identical HD up untill te point where i started referencing them to the new HD, so there is no backup since then.
i have tried all i can think of, any help much appreciated!!!

It sounds like one or more overfilled hard drives, a common problem when folks use Managed Masters. Once you switch to the more appropriate *Referenced-Masters Library* Aperture will help you keep from overfilling the Library drive. Reconfigure all of your image Masters to have a *Referenced-Masters Library* on the internal drive with the Masters referenced on other drives via FW800 or (preferably) eSATA.
Hard drives should be less than 70% full. That is important for speed and stability. Don't try to do anything until <70% full is achieved for all drives. To get to less than 70% full move data off of the Library drives to other drives.
The Aperture Library should live on an internal drive for best speed.
Note that Vaults back up the Library but a Referenced-Masters Library does not have the Masters in it, so Masters must be separately backed up. Also routinely create Vaults to back up the Library.

Your going to need to be able to make a copy of your data.
You may want to consider buying and using an external drive for your daily use.
I believe the g5's have a firewire 800 port.
In case you decide to replace your internal drive.

Check to make sure you can reduce the speed to 1.5. Some 6.0 drives have a plugable pin to reduce to 3.0 then auto negotiate from 3 to 1.5.
You can buy a dongle for 15 to 20 dollars to temporarily attach a harddrive to your system.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer [ a few G5's will boot from USB ].
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.

Wait. As per the suggestion in my previous post. There is after all, already an iPhone with 128GB capacity. Technically therefore, that would suggest that it is possible to produce a replacement for the Classic. But since I have no inside knowledge of anything Apple are planning, don't quote me on that!
Work on the basis that since your iPod is only "on its last legs" rather than "not working at all", it still has a useful purpose. Maybe by the time it does stop working, suggestion 1 will have come to pass.
I have no practical suggestion for avoiding a touch screen, it's the modern way!
Of course, if all else fails, and you end up with an iPod that has less capacity than your Library, you could resort to using Smart Playlists to manage your iPod, by using them to add and remove songs (for example, ones recently played that you don't want to hear for a while) and thereby keeping the songs on the iPod within its capacity. If that interests you, please ask and I'll explain it in more detail.

MBP 2008 On Last Leg

I bought my MBP back in 2008 at my university because I was tired of PCs. I had a Gateway then two HPs, and finally my Mac and it's been the best ever. However, I'm currently starting to run into troubles and I think it might just be do to age. I've googled, youtubed, and searched for about every troubleshooting tip I can find and not really getting any answers except, "It's probably your hardware." So this makes things difficult because I am also currently deployed and I use my Mac to stay in contact with family and friends as well as take care of finances and occasionally take care of some work and schooling when I have the free time. If my Mac finally just stops working, I'm going to lose the capability of all that. Yes we have MWR, but its super small and almost always busy. Time limit on it is only a half hour. Now apparently I'm suppsed to call Support to try and have them help me figure it out, but they want to charge me $19 because everything on it has expired. It's almost 5 years old, of course its going to expire. Don't really know what I'm supposed to do besides order a brand new Mac, but don't really want or can afford to drop the cash. What else can I do? Some of the issues I'm having are:
Mac will restart or shutdown on it's own. Sometimes when it reboots I also get a gray failure screen. Time that it stays on varies to a couple hours to sometimes only twenty minutes.
Screen flickers now and then and then produces a very crappy image which I have to restart to fix.
The Mac is getting super hot in the top left corner near the ESC key. I've noticed it get warm before, but this is actually slightly painful to the touch. I rest it on a laptop cooler and have those fans on, but it's really not helping. Some troubleshooting tips have suggested this may be one of the reasons that I'm having difficulties.
My trackpad is non operational. It went out about 2 weeks ago and I was forced to switch to using a mouse. Took forever to disable the trackpad when a mouse was plugged in through Universal Access because I could not even click with the track pad by simple touch or by pushing.
And finally, it's just become downright slow. I don't have a lot of programs or anything on it, but when I first had it, started up and everything went smoothly. Now just even opening Safari, the icon will bounce for quite awhile before it finally loads.
Am I going to just have to pony up the dough or is there something Apple can do to help me out? Thanks.

Your MBP seems to be on its last legs, and it's hard to figure out exactly what the problem is.
Certain MBP models are eligible for extended coverage, and it's possible that your unit qualifies:

In any case, I'd visit your nearest Apple Store when you can. There are a few other potential issues you might want to investigate.

Aperture using Unified library & "Last 12 months"

Hello,
I'm using Aperture with an iPhoto Library in order to use some good things of one and others.
When I look in iPhoto under the "Last 12 months", I get of course all pictures within the related period of time.
When I switch back to Aperture, the "Last 12 months", is completly empty.... It's really annoying.
I tried to completly rebuild the database and also regenerate all previews, I still get the same issue.
Do I miss something ?

In iPhoto, there is a preference called "Last 12 Months" and There is the same in Aperture, but visibly there are not working well together.
What I did :
1- disabled the feature in iPhoto, and then renabled it thru the Aperture preference, give it me back to Aperture.
2- Open the Library with iPhoto and then reopen the library with Aperture make the "Last 12 Months" empty again
3- Then, each time, I open the Library with iPhoto, I have to uncheck this preference and put it back when in Aperture.
It seems like a bug in Aperture management of this feature when shared with iPhoto.

My 2012 MACBOOK is acting strange - is it on its last legs?

I've a number of issues and questions to ask...
For a few months I have had a number of problems with my macbook - cut and paste only works erratically, at times the keyboard and screen don't synchronise and the fan gets very hot from time to time.
I also wondered if there was a virus and if so how do I find out - I don't use ANYTHING third party and even deleted CleanmyMac. Looking at the activity monitor - it seemed Spotify had a few 'error' messages so I have just deleted it and, the keyboard already seems to be synching better - but that may be my imagination. I have recently upgraded to Yosemite and I don't like it as the problems seem worse - lots of freezing and unexpected 'crashes' - Is there a way to go back to Mavericks?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I heard rumours that Apple now like to build in a 2 year obsolescence on their machines and I wonder if mine is dying. I am a freelancer and have had a bad year so need to know if it will work as I now have a contract that I will be depending on and can't afford to buy new at the moment.

HomeHub on its last legs?

Hi guys,
I made a topic a couple of weeks ago about my horrendously slow Internet speeds (200kbps average when I usually get about 800kbps). I became insanely busy so I had no time to get back to any replies.
Anyway, I'm still getting really slow speeds. I can't stream videos on Twitch without the video having to buffer every 10 seconds or so. I can't download any games or any work files I need without waiting far too long (A patch for one of my games took 40+ minutes the other day). In the last 2 or 3 days, I've been having to reset the router due to the connection completely dropping.
I glanced through the forums and noticed a number of people are getting slow speeds and disconnects. This makes me wonder if it's my HomeHub or a general problem? I have a HomeHub2, and I've had it since we joined BT (About 4 or 5 years ago). I've heard they tend to die after a while; is 4 - 5 years "a while" in this case? If I have to replace the HomeHub, does the HomeHub5 work with non-infinity broadband?

Is my iPod on its last legs??

I have used approximately 10Gb of my 80Gb Classic with music and podcasts only, since I have had this one in the last 14/16 months and it is showing signs of serious deteriation already!
Symptoms
1. The click wheel often doesn't register the touch of a finger
2. On the selection pages(?)when Music, Video, Photos or one of the others is chosen on the left hand side the right hand image does not correspond i.e 'Music' is highlighted on the left but the image is for 'Photos'
3. There can be a long delay (60 seconds plus) unitl the action is followed after making a choice.
On face-value small issues until they occur every time I use it; then it becomes a major wind-up. I know Apple products are reputed to have a short life time but this seems ridiculous especially as I have not got anywhere near what its capacity is intended to be.

Final Cut Express on last legs, it seems.

I am having major problems with my Final Cut Express these days. I can't ever capture more than 10 minutes worth of camcorder footage without the whole FCE suddenly freezing up on me. I then have no choice but to Force Quit & end up losing the 10 or 15 minutes worth of footage captured. Quite often I can't even get that far...when I click on "capture now" it goes into "allocating disc space" and just freezes up again. Force Quit all over again.
I am using a Crossfire external hard drive so there is plenty of space. Even the Macintosh HD has lots of space...so I'm not sure it's related to that. I have made tons of movies in the past, without such trouble....but as time has gone by it has become more & more unruly. More prone to crashing & siezing up. Is there any way I can uninstall the whole thing, and start from new with restored factory settings? Or is there a way to clean up the mess (if there is one) which is apparently clogging up the works? I am using an Apple iMac which I have owned since 2003, with Mac OSX version 10.4.11.

Check out Armando's suggestion first but if the problems persist take a good look at this FCE troubleshooting article.
I would particularly recommend trashing the preferences first and if that is ineffective uninstall FCE as described and reinstall it.

What version? I ask because it's kind of a non-concern with a Creative Cloud subscription.
If you have a perpetual license, you can clear up your activation records by calling Adobe Customer Support. If you go to their main page by clicking the red logo at the top of this page, it takes some doing but you can drill down to where you can get a phone number.

Well first it's not a card it's a chip on the logic board. The random dimming and brightening might be a problem with the inverter, cable or keyboard.

3 gen iPod, Last legs...

Hi,
I've had a 40GB 3rd gen iPod for awhile. Not alot of mileage on it. For the past year I've been using it with my XP box over FireWire.
I noticed it wasnt syncing but was charging. Then it stopped being recognized by my PC. I tried the usuall stuff and it froze, or wont turn on.
For the past week or so I've tried a number of things, reformatting via XP's admin tools. As NTFS, tho it seems iPods want FAT32 so I tried formatting that via DOS. Reformatting via Windows Explorer yeilded the format window, but no options, just empty pull down menus.
I went thru diagnostics menu. The HDD test said it failed all others passed as far as I could tell. Though the iPod was working in disk mode only. I tried to change the drive letter. No dice.
Early on in my attempts at repair, I tried connecting it to a Intel iMac, it seems to work and I reset it via it, but would still not work on my PC. After some more of my "repairs" it not seen at all by the Mac either. I has also tried using a USB iPod cable from a Nano, and it doesnt seem to like it either.
To summarize, currently this iPod, when it turns on, I see the Apple Logo and it either turns off, or reboots and does it again. I can still get into the diagnostics menu, but nothing seems to help there.
Any ideas folks?

disabled anti-virus removed all but 1 mass storage which is the built in card reader system and for some unknown windows thing each card slot is given a letter and never found an answer to it and other driver letter changed updater still can`t mount pod and now windows has stopped giving it a letter but still there in hardware manager, it still freezes up comp if left connected to long this is bugging me now is there any known bug or conflict with xp pro or software because untill this problem the comps been behaving it self so i do not want to take it all of at the moment this info from 7.02 before remove Connected Storage Devices:

thats part as goes on to much so there we are try a few more things til 12 midnight then tommorrow`s another day

On it's last legs.

My Gen5 Ipod with the color screen (30GB) is getting kinda old. I bought it a year 1/2 ago and it's been through a lot. It frequestly has these problems:
Sound volume drops randomly even when it's on hold.
Crashes
Makes a ticking noise. (you can hear it do this inside the casing.)
Sometimes when I plug it in I just get a battery logo that flickers here and there.
Is there a way I can send this in to have some general servicing and repair? Note: Warrenty is long gone.

Your best bet would be to Google for iPod repairs in Japan.
Apple will be expenisive (cheaper to buy a new iPod).

Prepaid devices have to be used on prepaid for the first 6 months the phone is active. Your best bet would be to look at eBay, Swappa or Craigslist
