Aperture on Macbook with 1G ram...

Anyone running Aperture on a Macbook successfully with 1 Gig of Ram?
Thanks!

I don't know if there's anything you can do to make version 1 work on the Macbook. Surely there is some info out there, maybe at OSX Hints.
If there's nothing you can do, you can buy Aperture 1.5. As it says on the Aperture "What's New" page - it "extends support to all Intel-based Macs — from the Mac mini and MacBook to the Mac Pro." So there should be no question as to whether it runs on a Macbook or has the proper screen resolution. It certainly can and does run nicely.
Yes, I run Aperture 1.5 on my Macbook with 1.25GB of RAM and am quite pleased with its performance. I have no complaints.

  • Frequent 30 second spinning cursor in MacBook with 2GB RAM?

I currently use a G5 dual processor desktop and a laptop daily. I just switched from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook with 2 GB of RAM. All of them have identical configurations that were copied from one machine to another over Firewire at install time.
After switching from the MacBook Pro, I immediately noticed that it quite often "hangs" for a few seconds with a spinning cursor at strange times. It seems to do this pretty consisently when waking from sleep, but it does it many other times as well.
I've noticed it a lot in Mail but it happens in other applications too.
I've noticed that when it hangs, my Activity Monitor shows that the processors are NOT fully utilized.
From reading the previous posts in the thread "Slow Performance", my experience seems to be different because I have plenty of RAM and can compare it to the same setup on a MacBook Pro but am definitely noticing slowdowns.
Anyone else seeing this kind of "hang" or "delay" with a spinning cursor on their MacBook?
    ~Josh

I think that my problems has been solved by tech support. They reckoned it was a problem with the power management which was resolved by the following....
    Shutdown
restart holding CTRL ALT P & R (To resest NVRAM)
    Shutdown
remove all peripherals, power supply AND battery.
Hold down power button for 15 seconds
Put the battery back in and reboot.
After I did this I ran parralells with windows XP in it which is quite processor intensive and is the thing that will always cause my problem and the fans would kick in as normal at about 60 c, but this time the temperature actuallly went down to 55c and then would fluctuate at 57c +-2c whatever processing I was doing and NO SPINNING beachball.
I have only test for one night but it is the first time that I have used my system without the problem since I have had it (2 weeks).
    I hope this helps someone.

  • Can i put lion on 2006 macbook with 2g ram

I just upgraded to snow leopard and would like to run lion if its possible. I upgraded the ram to 2g and am finding my old macbook is running faster than ever with snow leopard. Can I take asvatage of lion or am I out of time on this old mac?

Lion is no longer easily obtained now that Mountain Lion has been released. Mountain Lion cannot run on your model, so Lion is your end of the line for OS X. Frankly, unless iCloud is essential for you I would stick with Snow Leopard.
If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • 2007 MacBook with upgraded RAM won't start OS Lion download

I have a 2007 13 inch MacBook Core 2 Duo (2.1 GHz) that I had the RAM upgraded to 4 GB in hopes of at least being able to have OS Lion, since I have no hopes of ever running Mavericks on this machine... (In  a perfect world, I could get my machine to run an OS compatible with what my iPhone and iPad run, but hey, I get it. It's an old laptop. My deal is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it other than its age. Why should I have to buy a new one in the sake of connectivity? Rant over.)
I have a copy of a previous purchase of Lion in my app store purchase history, (I bought it when it first came out for my desktop) but when I try to download, it will at first not do anything, and after a restart, it appears in my dock as "paused". It gives me an option to "restart" the download, but it will stay unresponsive, no matter what I click...
I have checked and checked my system requirements (which are met to the letter and then some), my internet connection, I tried plugging my ethernet cable directly into my laptop (my AirPort is also rather old and sluggish sometimes, on top of a crummy ISP), I have plugged my power cable in, but nothing seems to work. Lion simply refuses to download, and I am at my wits end as to why. Help please!

If there is an Apple store conveniently located, you might want to get someone there to do the installation for you. It won't cost you. You do have to make an appointment.

  • Can FCP work on a macbook with 2gb ram?

I have been using it fine with all other functions but when I go to use the multiclip function it says error not enough memory?

I'd guess that the machine just isn't up to the job... There's reasons Apple doesn't support FCP on MacBook, and you're running into one of them.

  • IMac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2GB RAM

The Internet is frequently very slow.  I am hard wired to the TimeWarner Motorola cable modem, but also have a new router with 5 GHz that has a Firewire port.  Would my Internet speed increase substantially by hard wiring to the router by Firewire?
My MacBook with 4GB RAM is much faster via a wireless connection.
Thanks very much for any ideas or comments.

Unfortunately, connecting your iMac by Firewire directly to a router which then connects to the cable modem will Not increase the speed of your Interent connection relative to directly connecting your iMac to the cable modem.  Your iMac's network speed is at your ISP's delivered maximum directly through the cable modem.  All the router would add is the ability to share the cable modem's  output signal  among multiple connected computers. I believe you are experiencing the fact that the internal hardware (CPU, RAM, etc.) of your older iMac may be slower in processing the ISP's internet signal than your more powerful MacBook.
    Hope this helps:)

  • I have a Black Macbook 4,1, penryn 2.4GHz, snow leopard 10.6.7 with 8GB Ram

Yes 8GB Ram. It all goes great until it enters in screensaver or sleep mode (i can't detect) or else i try to run some virtual machines (it doesn't matter if it's virtualbox, fusion or paralles). The van start get all crazy like the computer it's about to lift off and them the operating system freezes. How i resolve this? I know that it's related to the RAM but i would like to know why. Why the system recognizes the RAM and boots and works with it and them "oh my god i have 8GB.No way.Let do something to freeze up! Hammer time! Can't touch this!"
Another note. A friend of mine who is a developer as Mac OS X Lion on a external disk and we boot my macbook with. So far so good, nothing to report, but i didn't try yet with virtual machines. I need some kind of tool or expertie to analize my problem can somebody help me?

My apologies for forgeting to tell this part of my experiences. It all started in Mac OS X Leopard with 2GB and this is the evolution until now:
    .Mac OS X Leopard - RAM:2GB
    .Mac OS X Leopard - RAM:4GB
    .Mac OS X Snow Leopard - RAM:4GB
    .Mac OS X Snow Leopard - RAM:6GB (4GB + 2GB)
so far, so good, with 1 hdd, with 2 hdd, with RAID0 stripe, with RAID0 stripe + USB boot, with RAID0 stripe + Firewire boot, you named i tried it. Them the ultimate upgrade:
.Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.5 - RAM:8GB (4GB + 4GB) After an undetermined time "Oh dam!!!Ups there it go!!"
    .Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6 - RAM:8GB (4GB + 4GB) "Hummm!!!So far so good!!" - what changed?
    .Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7 - RAM:8GB (4GB + 4GB) "Hummm!!!So far so good!!...and ... little dam!!!" - what changed?
And them ladies and gentlemen the King of the Jungle:
.Mac OS X Lion Dev Prev 2 booting from firewire - RAM:8GB (4GB + 4GB) - life is good. What changed?
See, my point! I know something is fishy around here! I know that some configuration are theoretical not supported, but i want to find out why.
JoeyR says is the hardware, but wich piece? The graphics? And even so it's not the function os the bios/efi to allocate the memory to the hardware? Does the hardware has some limitation to access more memory than 6GB? Why is that? Isn't the bus of my computer a 64 bit like the CPU? Even if it is 32 bit the limit would be 4GB (2^32). How it can access 6GB and does complain?
Just to remenber i have a Macbook Black verson 4,1, CPU Penryn T8300 (Dual 2 Core) 2.4GHz with a GPU Intel X3100 (which *****!).
Now, with all that can somebody tell me of a tool or method that i can use to analize this stuff and find it out who provokes the crash/freeze/"oh dam!"?

  • 2010 Macbook Air with 4GB RAM or 2011 Macbook Air with 2GB RAM

So my main question is which is better, the core 2 duo with 4GB of memory and 128GB of storage, or is the intel core i5 with 2GB of memory and 64GB of storage better? There is only a $10 differnce so the price doesnèt matter to me.

i would go with the one with more RAM and larger SSD.
Simple reason - you can't upgrade it in the future.
Sure the other one has a faster processor but what's the use of having a faster processor if you only have 2GB of RAM?
The other one is newer, but again, you can't upgrade it.
That's the reason why it's also cheaper........

  • I have a macbook with 2 512 mb ram, and wanting to at least replace one with 2gb ram. Do I need to reinstall OS If I do that?

I have a macbook with 1 gb ram, 2 rams with 512 mb. I am planning to replace one with 2gb ram. Do I need to reinstall OS if I replace one of them? Please help. Thanks.

If you want to upgrade your RAM it;s very easy on most MacBooks with the removable battery. We'll need to know the model to further advise you. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • What version of LR should I choose to run it on a 2008 macbook pro OS 10.5 (updated with 8GB RAM)

As it says in the title: I want to run LR on my 2008 macbook pro OS 10.5 (updated with 8GB RAM). Adobe support told me that it would not be a problem, yet i'm confronted with a com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1. I have no idea what it is or how to solve it.
Can you please help me? Thank you.

You will not be able to use a LR 5 key on an older LR. While an intermediate version of OS X may be easier on your system and may allow a newer version of LR than LR3, if it is not current you still have to get that old version of LR from an alternate channel.
If you have an easy way to clone your system I would try upgrade you Yosemite and putting LR 5 on it since you have a key. If it doesn't perform to your satisfaction you can always clone back to 10.5 and seek an alternate solution.
However, was the LR 5 key owned by your previous job along with that other laptop? If so, it violates the license for you to use it.

  • Macbook Pro (late 2008) with 8GB ram sporadic freezing / hanging

    Hi,
Last year, I was running Lion on my late 2008 MBP with 4GB ram with no problems.  Whilst 4GB is the maximum officially supported for my machine, forum posts suggested that some people had no issues running it with 8GB.
I went for the upgrade and everything was fine, with no hanging - 8GB on Lion on my machine seemed to work fine.
When I then upgraded to 10.7.2 I had a separate issue (to do with an old install of PGP) which meant I had to do a fresh install of Lion from scratch and then restore from Time Machine to get it back working. Ever since I did this, I have experienced odd behaviour, notably:-
Machine has a tendency to hang / freeze every now and then for up to 10 secs and sometimes with the spinning wheel and sometimes also requiring a hard reset
Any mounted drives in Finder (dropbox, Truecrypt) sometimes don't come up at all, with the Finder progress wheel spinning in the bottom status bar of the window, and only a "Relaunch Finder" resolves this and allows me to access the mounted drive.
Machine seems a little sluggish despite me keeping on top of maintenance activities for my machine (as I used to for SL and Lion when I first installed)
I was wondering whether there was something whereby Lion would work fine had it been installed whilst the machine had the officially supported 4GB (and then later upgraded to 8GB) as opposed to installed on a machine with 8GB (which only officially supported 4GB) at the time of install.  As above, everything was working happily with the 8GB until I had to do a completel refresh from scratch.
Has anyone else had experiences of anything similar and can shed some light?  I am considering refreshing and restoring from time machine again with just 4GB in the machine and then putting the extra 4GB back in after the restore, but don't want to do this unless there is any evidence to suggest this will address some/all of the issues I'm experiencing.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you, basilmir.  Below are the specs from my Macbook prior to the Snow Leopard and RAM upgrade.  To upgrade to ML I needed to first upgrade from Leopard to SL.  I expect to do that later today.  In the same screen as below, I now see the memory as 8GB.  When I run Activity Monitor I am seeing 7.75GB so I am guessing that the video card is using the "missing" 256 meg.
