Aperture on MacBook

Can I install Aperture on MacBook Core duo. I really want to learn this software as an amatuer.
Advance thanks for suggestions.

Adding another gig of RAM will make a considerable performance difference, but Eduardo is correct, it will be fully functionable on your notebook.

  • Facebook and Flickr with Aperture on Macbook Pro

I have set up both a Facebook and Flickr account in Aperture.  They work great and like how easy they are to use.  I do have a problem though.
After using my Macbook, I close the screen and leave it.  When I come back and open the screen, sometimes Aperture gives me an error that says:
There was a problem connecting to Facebook.
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -1.)
After clearing the message it comes back in an endless loop.  Am I doing something wrong?  Should I exit Aperture before closing the screen evertime?  How can I clear this error without killing the application?
    Thanks.
    Mike T4

This is not much help, but I don't think it's an infinitely loop. I suspect the number of times you get the message is related to the number of flickr sets you have in Aperture. If you are patient, and click the OK button enough times, it will go away.
I really don't like force quitting - especially Aperture. I have always been able to "outlast" Aperture by clicking the OK button enough times.

  • Got new iMac, can no longer run Aperture on MacBook

I recently upgraded to Aperture 2. It was running fine on my Mac Book Pro. Then I got an iMac. I've been running Aperture on that, no problem. Now when I go to launch Aperture on my MacBook, it tells me to enter the serial #. I enter my upgrade #, and it asks for the original. I cannot find my original Aperture 1 package or serial #. What can I do?? Is there any way to get my original serial # and run Aperture on both of my machines?

If your registration is fully legitimate call 1-800-SOS-APPL and make them work it out.

  • Installing Aperture on MacBook Pro

About a year ago I purchased Aperture 2 for my imac, I originally downloaded it to try it out and then up graded a couple of weeks later.
My question is how can I install this on to my new macbook pro?
I still have my serial number/code.
    Mark

    yes ...
the EULA allows for installation on one desktop and one laptop (at the same time) but you will not be able to physically run it on both machines simultaneously if they are both on the same LAN ...

  • Very slow Aperture on MacBook Pro 2.16 Duo

    Hi All,
This is most likely a topic that has been covered before but Ive looked and cant find the answer. Ive got a 1.5 yr old MacBook Pro 2.16 intel duo with 2GB RAM (its maximum )
I bought Aperture 2 a few months ago, and its now started to run very, very very slow. I store my referenced files on a Lacie Drive (USB 2), however the issue seems to be that when I start browsing, exporting, editing and generally moving around the program, it gets to a point when the beach ball is on spinning overload. My Mac's fan is wizzing round like mad, It sounds like the things going to take off! Im really starting to lose faith and seriously looking at lightroom, but I love the structure on aperture. I have taken my Laptop to a mac store and even they have had a look over it, and cant understand why it runs slow. Its really disappointing that if its a hardware issue I cant do anything about it, plus I easily surpass the min specs to run it. Its holding up my workflow and costing me money in delivering files to clients!
Any help what so ever would be great,
    Cheers Guys
    Matt

I'm running the same model Duo with a 120GB drive and an external LaCie. It does not support the 800 Firewire, just the 400.
Aperture runs adequately fast, although after two months I'm still learning a lot about the features. The search HUD seems a bit slow, but I do have alot of pictures.
My Aperture Library is 14GB, 13,000 files, 90% are jpegs. All picture files are referenced and take up an additional 17GB.
I found Aperture (and Parallels) choking whenever the free space on my internal drive gets down below 6-8GB. Some non-Apple forums recommend keeping at least 10GB free for working with media intensive apps like Aperture. I also find that even when I quit Aperture, it doesn't free up the temp space on the disk drive it had used. Restarting regularly recovers the 1.5GB or so that Aperture was leaving behind after quitting.
I'm slowing breaking the big project I had with 11,000 files into several smaller projects and migrating the referenced files to an external LaCie. File management, renaming files, finding duplicates, etc., is not an Aperture strong point, (Expression Media is better at file and metadata management, but has limited editing and integration features with iLife, etc.) but over all I'm satisfied with performance on the Core Duo with an external monitor attached.
    Cheers,

  • Install Aperture on MacBook Pro Retina

    Hello,
I just unboxed brand new MacBook Pro 13'' with Retina and trying to install Aperture...
Recent Aperture from AppStore requires 10.8.2
MacBook came with 10.8.1, If I am trying to install OS Mountain Lion (10.8.2) from the store it complains:
"We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."
    What is wrong here!?
    - Dmitry

Apple Menu, Software-Update does the same thing. It's tied to the MAS now.
An advantage with Apple is it doesn't FORCE you to download updates when you don't want it to, then FORCE you again into a sudden reboot with no way to avoid it, costing you to lose so much work and headaches.

  • Installing Aperture on MacBook Air

Having just ordered a MacBook Air to complement my iMAC, and wanting to run Aperture on both, I have the following questions.
I believe it is true that the Aperture user license allows one to install and use 1 copy on a desktop computer and 1 copy on a mobile computer, as long as only 1 copy is in use at a time.
1)Where does one find a copy of the user license for Aperture? I've looked in some of the obvious places without success.
2)How do I go about installing Aperture on my new MacBook Air @ 10.6.6; I'm quite sure the old 2.0 install disk won't install a working version of Aperture as Aperture 2.O won't run on Snow Leopard. (I started Aperture with version 2.0 on OSX 10.4. That's the only install disk I have, everything else is upgrade packages )
    Thanks
    Eric

    1) The Aperture EULA is here:
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/aperture.pdf
(FYI the SLAs for all Apple software are here: http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/)
    2) Aperture 2.x will run on 10.6.6. You can install it, but you won't be able to run it until you run Software Update and bring it to version 2.1.4. That said, Aperture 3 is a lot better and you can get it on the Mac App Store for $79.
    So here's what I'd do:
    * Buy it on the Mac App Store for $79, if you don't already own a 3.0 license (note, if you do, you don't need to install Aperture 2.x to get 3.x to install, you just need the license key). You can then install it on multiple computers by just using the MAS to install it on each -- no copying or anything necessary.

  • Aperture on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processor.
It has 1.5 gigs of RAM.
Since the recommended RAM is 2.0 I was wondering if anyone knew if Aperture 2.0 will run o.k. on it? Or will be frustratingly slow?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would have liked that, but my MacBook Pro will only take 2x1GB.
So I am stuck with max of 2 GB of RAM.
Untrue, MBPs take 3 or 4 GB total in 2 slots. Call OWC and discuss your RAM options at 800-275-4576. You list a 2.0 GHz Macbook Pro but AFAIK the only 2.0 GHz was a Macbook, not a Macbook Pro. The 2.0 GHz Macbook can take 3 GB of RAM even though it did not show on Apple's CTO schedule. Call OWC for presales tech info, they are very helpful.
    Good luck!

  • Aperture on Macbook with 1G ram...

Anyone running Aperture on a Macbook successfully with 1 Gig of Ram?
    Thanks!

I don't know if there's anything you can do to make version 1 work on the Macbook. Surely there is some info out there, maybe at OSX Hints.
If there's nothing you can do, you can buy Aperture 1.5. As it says on the Aperture "What's New" page - it "extends support to all Intel-based Macs — from the Mac mini and MacBook to the Mac Pro." So there should be no question as to whether it runs on a Macbook or has the proper screen resolution. It certainly can and does run nicely.
Yes, I run Aperture 1.5 on my Macbook with 1.25GB of RAM and am quite pleased with its performance. I have no complaints.

  • Aperture on MacBook or MacBook Pro

I'm curious to ask for those that run Aperture on both the MacBook and MacBook Pro what their experience is like. I'm considering purchasing an Apple laptop but cannot make my mind as far as which one to purchase. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I use Aperture on my MacBook Pro (C2D) 17" matte with 3 GB and 160 GB internal drive. I also use it with a wireless mighty mouse. I shoot RAW with a D200
It works great although CS2 is slow (CS3 should help considerably). The biggest constraint is I only have 40-50 GB free on my internal and this requires offloading pictures to an external drive on a regular basis. After I am essentially done with a shoot, I export the project (consolidating masters, and I relocated project masters to a WD 160 USB 2.0 drive. The exported project gets imported to my master library residing on a 500 GB WD MyBook Pro and this become my permanent record.
The really nice thing....when I am in the studio, I shoot wirelessly, directly into the computer and import the images into Aperture on the fly. It takes about 15 seconds per image. Clients love it, the screen is big enough for them to see what the picture looks like, and I can do some quick editing (cropping, exposure adjustments) so the client can see what the final might really look like.
I had originally thought this would be my main machine, but it really is an acquistion and display device; as well as my initial editing machine, but long term storage goes to my desktop.
hope this helps... but I love my C2D..it is a great machine, thus far.

  • Aperture on Macbook Pro vs Macbook

I'm running Aperture on my MacBook with 2 gigs RAM. Seems ok but not amazing. Before I spend the $ was wondering if I will notice a hugh difference on a macbook Pro? Any opinions?

Are those external hard drives you are suggesting I buy?
I cannot recommend hard drives but I can tell you that the hitachi drives are the ones we editors, cinematographers and photographers rely on the most here in hollywood/los angeles. they are also the hard drives inside the gtech and machollywood boxes, they are also the ones I use everyday via fw800 and esata.
I gather you don't recomment storing my pictures on the internal HD
    not saying that.
aperture will work great storing your images on the internal osx drive.
but, eventually as a pro you will run out of storage space and apple recommends having a "healthy" amount of headroom (empty space) so eventually you will need to store the aperture library on another drive internal or external.
the benefits of having the ap lib on an external drive are several, the option to connect it to a tower or a laptop and double-clicking on the ap lib and working from either computer. also, it is easier in case of an emergency to run out with an external drive than trying to lug a tower which is like a boat anchor. it is also less taxing on the os drive to run the apps on it and the media on another drive.
if you buy two of the same sized hard drives they'll fill pretty much the same rate.
although the following apple doc pertains to fcp it is a good read for we photographers since file sizes are increasing:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58636
and then backing up to an external via the Vault?
    yes.

  • Loading Aperture on MacBook

I plan on downloading the Aperture 3 app to my iMac running 10.6.6 BUT I want to use it on my MacBook running 10.5.8, any issues using it on leopard? Also, I tried installing the trial version on my MacBook by copying it to a flash drive first but it would not launch. Will I need to use Target Disk to transfer to the MacBook ?
    Thanks in advance !

    According to the specs
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/
    yes 10.5.8 will run Ap3.
You need to do a separate install from the installer of the application on the MacBook, just copying the file will not work.

  • Old aperture and Macbook upgrade

I upgraded my Macbook to Snow Leopard but now can't access my Aperture (1) program-if I get Aperture 3 can I load my libraries into it that I made from my original Ap. program?

I upgraded my Macbook to Snow Leopard but now can't access my Aperture (1) program
Why does Aperture 1 not run? Is your Aperture 1 version a Power PC program? Then you could get it to run, if you install the optional install "Rosetta" from your Snow Leopard installation DVD. This will emulate the Power PC, so old PwerPC programs can run on Snow Leopard.
Upgrading from a very different Aperture version to Aperture 3 requires some precautions: Aperture will need to convert the Aperture libraries. This may go wrong, if your Aperture libraries have corruptions. In addition to making a backup of the libraries, as mende1 recommended, rebuild your libraries before you upgrade them. Hold down the key-combination ⌥⌘, while you double click your Aperture Library to lauch Aperture. This will bring up the Aperture 3 library First Aid Tools. Select to rebuild the database.
I am not sure, however, if you will be able to buy Aperture 3 from the AppStore for Snow Leopard. The current version of Aperture 3 requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later. You may have to look at Amazon for boxed retail versions of Aperture 3.

  • Aperture for Macbook Pro

When is Aperture going to be able to run on the MacBook Pro. Does not run .
    Jon Pousette-Dart

The Universal Binary version of Aperture (1.1) is due sometime in March - it will come to you via Software Update.
We do not know when it will ship exactly but at PMA it's looking pretty good right now.

  • Aperture on MacBook, MacBook Pro, or stick with G4 PowerBook for now?

    Hello there,
My question may have been asked and answered already, but I can't find it so I'll ask anyway.
I am currently running a 1.67GHz PowerBook with 2 GBs RAM, 120GB hard drive and - while at home - a 20" Apple Cinema Display.
I really want to use Aperture as my sole import, export and management tool for raw files, however photography is my hobby and in my working environment the only way I can get time out to take photographs is if I can provide feedback - images - to people around me to make it worth their while covering for me while I snap away.
    That was a long sentence!
The problem I have is that on my PowerBook Aperture runs at an infuriatingly slow pace compared to Adobe products. This is not a problem when I am at home, but as I mentioned, at work I need instant results. Can anyone who has used Aperture "in the field" on both a PowerBook and a MacBook/MacBook Pro comment on how much faster images render etc? Import and export are fine, but I want to be able to make changes and move on to the next image without having to sit and wait for completion of the last one.
So can anyone tell me whether making the jump to a MacBook/Pro would make enough of a difference over the PowerBook to be worth the outlay right now, or am I better to just sit tight and wait for the next MacBook Pro edition. In the meantime using Lightroom, or else missing some fantastic photo opportunities while at work?
I am running on a clean OSX install with a library of nearly 8,000 images around 2,000 of which are various forms of raw. I am currently using a Nikon D200 with raw file sizes of >15MB.
I have Aperture running on its own, no other apps are open.
I am only shooting raw, so score the JPEG suggestion from your lists!
Only advice from people who have actually USED the products mentioned please. Plus I am not slating Aperture, or in any way deriding Apple products, just asking for sound advice.
    12" 1.33GHz PB G4/15" 1.67GHz PB G4/Dual 2.0GHz PowerMacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The MacBook Pro weighs only 6 ounces
more than a MacBook, and is thinner; hardly a "boat
    anchor."
I am using a 12" Powerbook because it is the smallest laptop they sell. The 15" MBP is not a weight or thickness issue. The thing is just to dang big in the other two dimensions to transport and use in the field. You can't use it on a airplane seat in coach. It won't fit in a normal laptop bag. It's too big. The 13" MB is too big too, but is much closer to what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm really looking for a subnotebook VAIO that runs OSX...
Also, the extra screen real estate makes it
a much more functional Aperture box.
I have a quad g5 with multiple monitors as my primary Aperture machine. I want a machine for the field.
    If you really
want a powerful laptop with a quality small screen my
guess is we will see one by this fall.
From your mouth to Steve's ears.. Perhaps the real problem is that Aperture is relying on the GPU so extensively that a machine with a blazing fast dual core CPU can't run it due to graphics limitations. Remember, this is NOT a high framerate 3d game, it's photo workflow software...
