Aperture only sees MOVs in SD card copy folder structure

I copied a couple of SD cards to hard disk and trying to import images only shows the Movs which are in H.264 MTS file packages and completely ignores JPG images in the folder structure root and DCIM folders. All seems very random as not all MOVs are shown anyway (Quicktime handles packages perfectly).
It's obviously no big deal and just requires some finder foot work but I see more and more vague behaviour from all Apple products these days.

Thanks - reading directly from SD card shows images but many of the movies are still missed. Basically all a bit random - less than useless for a professional tool were users may rely on dumping card contents into a library before reuse.

Best way to integrate system Music & Movies folders with iTunes' default folder structure?

I understand that OSX has system folders that can't be moved (Music, Movies, Documents, etc.). These folders are the only ones that get their specialized icons in the sidebar. I like those icons as they make choosing the right folder easier (even though I can read).
MUSIC:
Isn't there something very un-elegant to have my actual music files buried 4 layers deep in OSX's folder structure? By that I mean, I'd like to click on my (system) Music folder and see my music. But OSX and iTunes have schemed to make users have to deal with Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. It's weird, right?
I am aware that the iTunes library location can be altered via Advanced Prefs, but I like having Music, Podcasts, Movies, etc. be on the same folder level, if that makes sense. If I point iTunes to my (system) Music folder, then my other media will be down below in the iTunes Media folder.
MOVIES:
Likewise, if I let iTunes manage my files, movies go to the Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies folder. I don't let iTunes copy everything into the Media folder (as I don't want to eat HD space with duplicates), but that's still where it wants movies to go when it organizes. Similar to the Music folder issue above, how can I make use of my (system) Movies folder given this setup?
I know that I can just remove whatever folders I want from the sidebar and put in the ones that iTunes uses, but then I lose out on the icons and I end up having permanent folders in my Home folder that don't even get directly used for the media files they're supposed to hold.

first of all, to get rid of the duplicates, you tell iTunes to consolidate Library.
I think you may be missing the idea of what iTunes does for you. If you have content, like music, that you want to find the file of, you right click the name of the file in itunes and then "show in finder" . For things like iChat, you can simply drag and drop your music into the chat window from itunes, just like it was finder. iTunes organizes your media for you so you don't have to go looking for it.
The same thing goes with videos.
There is no reason to have two of the same files on your computer. Think of iTunes like finder, only it plays media too.
Not everyone uses itunes. Things like quicktime player, after you do a recording, will save the content into your videos folder. They're not on itunes but it uses your video folder to save the recordings. This is just one example of how your video sidebar icon folder will still be useful.
Delete the backups you have of your media unless they're in a format the itunes doesn't support, like lossess formats such as Flac, because it is pointless and wasteful to have two of the same files for music and video on your computer.

ACL / ACE - Copy folder structure including all rights

Dear readers
A question about the proper settings in ACL/ACE for to copy a given folder structure incl. all ACL/ACE rights.
Situation:
On a OS X server, the admin user did setup a sample structure of folders and files with the corresponding access rights.
Now this folder structure has to be accessible for the "normal" users in a shared folder.
This sample folder must be secured against changes from "normal" users BUT if it is copied it must keep all the set access rights.
Question:
What's the best way to do so?
1) Set the protected flag of the most top level folder of this sample structure folder set at it's done?
2) Use of a Apple Script to achieve this?
3) Use of a Bash Script to achieve this?
4) Can only be done as the admin user which did setup this structure?
5) Other best effort suggestions to achieve this?
Known things:
- chmod is involved to do it on terminal
- It must be possible as the system does something similar when a new user is created.
Thank you in advance for anyones help and suggestions.

Copy Folder Structure from Explorer into Outlook 2013

Hi,
I have just spent approx 3 months designing an Enterprise Classification Scheme, and built a folder structure in Explorer that I want to replicate in Outlook.
I thought it would have been as simple as copy and pasting from Explorer to an Outlook folder however when I attempt to do so I get the following error:
"Only files or objects can be attachments. x:\xxxx\xxxxx\xxxxx is a folder structure and cannot be attached."
Surely there must be a simple way of doing this so I don't have to manually recreate and name 442 folders in Outlook.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I tried the Outlook tool with no luck. It ran and looked as though it was doing something but no folders were created.
I did a bit more of a search around and came across a spreadsheet that works perfectly for making folder structures on Network drives. Anyone up to having a look at the VBA in the spreadsheet and modifying it to make shared folders in outlook

Copying Folder Structure

I have a folder structure of Months (01-January, 02-February, etc.) setup under each year folder.
Is there a way in Aperture to create a folder structure template and copy that structure to a new folder, as the new years need to be setup?

You can do this for Projects by setting up you Folder and Album structure in an empty Project, exporting it, and then importing it again each time you need a new copy, but not for Folder structures outside of Projects.
But if you download the Aperture-InDesign integration examples from http://www.apple.com/applescript/aperture/indesign/ there are a couple of example scripts for creating organisational structures that you might be able to tweak.

I just upgraded to a new larger hard drive, moving my old one to another bay of my G4.
Most of my music is organized on the drive in folders based on custom mixes I have built, a legacy of my pre-iTunes organization and my personal preference to organize by era and my previous custom mixes. Those mixes have also been organized into iTunes playlists.
Manually copying the folders to the new drive moved the music in my preferred structure, but I cannot get the Library file to recognize the new drive, everything plays off the old drive.
I don't want to have to re-import dozens of playlists and re-enter all the tags and ratings or manually reconnect 1800 songs. Consolidating the library on the new drive will wipe out my structure for iTunes' rigid Artist, Album, etc. scheme which I detest.
I just want to know if there's a way for iTunes to move or reconnect the files with my preferred organizational structure without hijacking the process and doing things its way.

How can I batch move files to the same folder structure in a different location?

I recently had an issue with my iTunes Library so I used the Organize Library feature to have iTunes organise my library. What happened was that it put all of my music in a folder called 'Music' on my external hard drive, whereas previously it was not in a folder at all, e.g.
BEFORE: External Hard Drive / Abba / Greatest Hits / Mama Mia.m4a
AFTER: External Hard Drive / Music / Abba / Greatest Hits / Mama Mia.m4a
I don't have any particular issue with the updated folder structure, except that I had copies of the artwork for each album in my album folders, and these weren't moved when the audio files were moved/consolidated/organised. So I need to find a way of moving all of the artwork to the new folders, e.g.
External Hard Drive / Abba / Greatest Hits / folder.jpg
needs to become:
External Hard Drive / Music / Abba / Greatest Hits / folder.jpg
I have to do this for 3,000+ albums, and I have multiple artwork files for some albums, so I am hoping that there is a way of doing this using a batch/automated method of some kind, but I haven't been able to turn up anything yet.
Can someone help with this?

You can make a smart playlist containing episodes of both series and play from that. Podcasts are linked together by the URL they are served from so merging ongoing series isn't really practical.

Why is Aperture folder structure ignored in iPhoto?

I'm not sure about others but I would like to use iPhoto and Aperture together because I find iPhoto to be a lot quicker to open and work than Aperture, so I would like to be able to do most of my work there, and then use Aperture for more heavy editing etc.
That said, when I first opened up my Aperture Library in iPhoto, I noticed that the folder structure had gone out the window. Projects had become Events, but both albums and folders had disappeared from Aperture, thus throwing my entire Aperture library into disarray. Either Aperture albums or folders should be supported, since albums (that look like folders...) are supported by iPhoto...
Does anyone know why, if Apple has unified the two, they have not done anything to better map the structure from one to the other? Or if there are any workarounds?

Hmm, I see something different, when I open an Aperture library in iPhoto. Both the nested folders and the albums are there. Can it be, that in your iPhoto view the folders are hidden? There should be a disclosure button to right of the "Events" label in the source list, like this.
Press "HIDE" or "UNHIDE" to reveal or hide any sections in the Source list. These buttons will only appear, if you hover the mouse right beside any caption in capital letters. (Tested with iPhoto 9.4.2)

Aperture only imports some of photos from my camera card.

When I put my camera card into my iMac and it opens Aperture only some o f the photos are set to import and the wheel spins endlessly. I have to manually import from the desktop to get it to work. This happens with all of my cards. Any solutions? I've been assuming that it's something to do with Yosemite. Sometimes it does import them all but more often it doesn't. Ron

Did iPhoto launch? Check iPhoto and see if they in there.
Did you put it on the right side of the dock where the stacks are? Check in Documents.
A folder with a question mark usually means the dock item is no longer connected to an application.

MSI 6667BB-003US Sees 16GB Compact Flash Card as 34MB

I just got a MSI 6667BB-003US nettop from Newegg and am trying to use the onboard compact flash slot. I got a 16GB Kingston compact flash card to use with this computer but the computer only sees it as 34MB. The BIOS doesn't give me any options to change settings for it. How do I get this thing to recognize the full 16GB of space on this card? I've used a card reader on my other computer to check the card and it shows up correctly.

AppleMan Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents" but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb. Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong. Babowa It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion

Automator only playing .mov files

I am working with Automator trying to create a simple video scheduling app. I created a workflow that ...
1. Gets a specific movie
2. Plays the movie full screen.
Everything is tied into iCal and seems to work well except that I can only play .mov files. mp4 files and .avi files will play in Quicktime Player but will not when called through this workscript/app.
Any thoughts?

Your question is somewhat ambiguous. How you place the files on your web site will depend on how you are creating/managing the web site and how you plan for viewers to watch them. This can range from simply loading the files to an online server and accessing the content directly by its URL in a compatible browser app like Safari or dedicated players like QT 7, QT X, MPEG Streamclip, VLC, or devices like the iPad, iPhone, etc. to embedding/calling specialized "viwers/players" from within the programmed web page.
Not being a web site programmer myself, I normally just transfer the content to my system and either copy the files directly to my server or use iWeb to publish the files to my server for more generic web site viewing.
