Aperture or Final Cut X for the task

I have recently purchased Aperture and Final Cut X. Now I have to create a DVD/Blueray with video clips and photos as source, which of the two applications would you use for the task?

Re my comment about movement, refering here to zooming in or out on a pic, panning across or down an image. If you use an image at the end vide dimensions, eg. 1920x1080 or 1024x576, there is no where to go when applying movement to the image with loosing quality, whereas is you use your full resolution file, eg.4000x3000 you are able to pan across the image or crop inwith out loosing any detail.
Let us know how you go.

  • Final Cut Studio for the home user?

Ok, I have Final Cut Studio (all 4, unused, still in the box) and I'm considering getting rid of it.
But, first, could it come in handy for a general user, or is it going to be wasted?
I'm going back to school and considering letting film students use my computer for a small fee

If you are a person who seriously enjoys having the video editing power and capabilities of the pros, by all means keep studio and use it. I don't fingd it beyond the advanced amateur or aspitring film maker. It just depends on what you are looking to accomplish. It is fairly easy to learn with the tutorials and is very powerful. Sharing it with students and others is also a good idea. If you can't see yourself needing or using its capabilities then by all means sell it to someone who can use it. Be sure to transfer the licence with Apple if it has been registered.

  • I am using Final Cut Pro for the first time...Converted from Premiere Pro

The interface seems very similar, but I wanted to know why it's not accepting my .avi files? I read in the help book that it's not rendered for final cut, but all my files are in this format. Is there something else I can do to get final cut to allow playback in real time?
    Thanks
    P.S
If you have any tips for me since im new to final cut...send them too me thanks.

You'll need to convert your AVIs into a Quicktime format that matches the settings on your timeline if you want to avoid having to render your AVIs in order to play them.
The best way to do this would be to open them in the Quicktime Player then export as Quicktime DV Pal (or NTSC or whatever format you're working in).
On the other hand, if your AVIs were generated by a codec locked into a PC video card such as Canopus then you'l need to go back to Premiere and export your AVIs as Quicktime or put them bacck onto tape and capture in FCP.
If this doesn't work then you'll need to give more details about where the AVIs came from, the codecs used etc.
    Good luck

  • Aperture or Final Cut Pro X for Video Org

I don't really see a reason to keep importing (linking) videos into Aperture at this point, considering the robust meta data capabilities of Final Cut Pro X.  Other than having all video and photos in one place (Aperture database), does anyone have a reason?
    Thanks for your thoughts.

    Thanks Shawn,
I'm switching to organizing all videos in FPCX - the keyword and Event options (smart albums) are pretty powerful and it's much easier to skim video.  With the direct browsing of Aperture projects in FCPX I will have quick access stills for when combing both in a video.  It would be nice to only have to deal with one piece of software when cataloging files from a HDSLR, but Aperture just isn't up to the task for video.

What is wrong? All the sudden.

    We need info, info, info!
    What version of FCP X?
Did you render? what are the project specs? do you use many compound clips? how much ram, hard drive space, how is the hard drive connected?
It looks like your mac can't keep up. Maybe the bottleneck is the hard drive, or something else.
Try exporting a master file and see if the video is ok.
Also, keep Activity Monitor open and see how much memory pressure you've got.

You can have them both on the same computer as I and many others have done for years.
Just go ahead and install FCS 3 normally.
There will be absolutely no problems.

  • Exporting from Final Cut Pro for DVD Studio Pro

In the recent DVDs I've made, the quality seems lower than it has before. I don't think I've changed anything, but I was wondering what is the best format to export a clip from Final Cut Pro and the best way to encode those clips in DVD Studio Pro. Thanks for all your help!
    Erin

The best and only format is mpeg2/m2v.
The encoding rate for video is based on the length of the sequence in h/m/s.
They should not be encoded in DVDSP, but exported as a self contained with current settings, no recompression and dropped into Compressor.
Based on length and the type of footage, elect a preset for video and elect Dolby 2 for audio

  • Cannot download Final Cut Pro from the app store

    Hello,
I cannot download Final Cut Pro from the app store.
I says "Failed to download" and error has occurred
    What is wrong?
    is it my Macbook?

I had a problem way back in the olden days, i.e., FCPX 10.0.2, and finally gave up and called the Apple Store using a land-line phone.
Anyway, (this was a couple years ago), if I remember right, they passed me off to someone in the FCPX group and I got the App. However, this was not a really goo way to go because for many updates afterward, everytime I wanted to update I had to go thorugh the same ritual.
Finally, probably around 10.0.8, things got "fixed" and since then I've been able to go direct and download it from the App Store without having to make a phone call.
My suggestion would be to try calling the App Store. Maybe, if there is a "global problem" and they get a lot of calls, they will fix it.
Heck, maybe write a Knowlede Base (KB) article about it.
Disclaimer: I didn't check to see if there was one.

  • Final Cut Pro for PowerPc G3 Mac

is there Final Cut Pro for PowerPc G3 Mac, Im pretty sure I need version 2.0, so please comment a download like, or comment if you know anything, thanks

This is the Final Cut Pro X forum. The software you want is not supported on any forum. Obsolete Intel technology is on the Final Cut Studio forum.
Bottom line: modern camera formats are not available for PowerPC technology. You need to upgrade your hardware.

  • I am opening a public access/community TV station soon. We are thinking of using Final Cut X for our staff

I am opening a public access/community TV station very soon. We are thinking of using Final Cut X for our staff and community producers. I am curious if there are any special discounts for multiple purchases of computers, but also for Final Cut X software? Does anyone reading have any experience from a public access TV perspective?

    Hi SCaryPictures,
I run a PEG station, where I have used FCP7, AvidExpressPro, Adobe CS6/CC, and FCPX - I am approaching 2 years with my FCPX experience. I'd be happy to engage with you in a private email thread about my experience (I value my access to the people on this forum, and I don't want the Apple staffers to take offence.) Good luck founding your station!

You're in totally the wrong place...  this is the Mac Pro (no Book) forum for hardware.  You want
Final Cut Pro X: Professional Applications: Apple Support Communities
Hopefully, FCP X has an autosave feature Like Final Cut Pro Studio so that you may already have a recent copy.  If I were in your shoes, I'd try an ESC or something similar before going to a Forced Quit.
    Good luck

  • Does final cut express have the functionality like macromedia flash 8?

does final cut express have the functionality like macromedia flash 8? I'm looking to compile my movie for easy viewing on the internet

In the interest of not appearing like a total idiot
The link of my 3-minute video of Native American Indian dancing (above) has been changed to: http://www.goliveusa.com/MoviesFlv/PowWow.html
where it should remain for at least the next two years.
Part of this change has to do with a discontent with .Mac, thought that is certainly a topic for another forum.
Since back here at this thread, and considering the initial forum topic, I'd guess it would be appropriate to ask: "What is meant by the term: functionality?"
FCE is a a video editing program. Flash 8 is graphic animation program.
You can incorporate video into Flash 8 and do extra animation with it.

  • HT5103 Why can't you export on Final Cut Pro X the trial?

I'm trying to export my video on Final Cut Pro X the 30 day free tiral but it is not allowing me to do so, why is that?

Yes I have the project selected and when I hit share various options for where I want to share the video comes up so I hit one for instance the "Master File" I click on it and set my settings to quicktime and etc., then when I hit next it take me to a screen of where would I like to save the file at so I would put it on my extrenal hard drive. But when I got to check to see if it saved nothing is there. I tried to do Vimeo but nothing is there on Vimeo also.
Can you save or export on the 30 day trial is that even a feautre?
