Aperture photo frame vs aperture photo box

Hi,
Why I can change an photo box and not a photo frame, is photo frame different in printing from photo box?

Hi Susan. I'm an experienced Photoshop user, but I'm using Aperture 2.0 for more and more of my post-processing of images that do not require masking. My workflow using Aperture for whole-image adjustments is faster and, with 65,000+ photos, the savings in hard drive space vs Photoshop will be huge.
I'm learning Aperture bass ackwards, in the sense that I've been drawn into its image processing abilities before learning how to use it for managing my collection.
Be aware that Aperture really hammers your hardware, especially the video card. Download the trial version to see if it will work well with your computer system.

How to change facebook stored photos to use on a sony s-frame dpf=d810.  I only get a large question mark.  Is there a program I can use to access my own phots stored only on facebook.  My computer crashed and I dont have them stored anywhere else.

If a question mark is displayed in index view, the thumbnail data or image file itself may not be supported by the photo frame. If the images are in an unsupported format, then it may be required to convert the files to one of the supported file formats before using them in the photo frame. Refer to page 33 of the supplied operating manual for information regarding the compatible image file formats.

  • How can I put a photo frame around my photo using PSE 9?

I can't find a way to do this. V8 seemed to have it.

If you don't find a frame to suit, you can make your own:
Open picture file in full edit and enhance as usual, and merge layers.
    Go to Select>all
Open a blank layer at the top
Go to Edit>stroke outline selection, make stroke wide (25-35px), position inside, color does not matter
Open the effects palette, go to Layer style>Patterns>Wood>apply
In effects palette go to Bevels>scalloped edge bevel, or simple inner>apply
Double click the "f" in the layer with the stroke to bring up the style settings dialog, adjust as necessary

  • When Photo Frame is running, iPad battery discharges

... And that surely ain't right, right?
I have a new iPad (3rd gen, 64gb model) and I sync *ALL* my photos to it. But if I place it on the dock and put the Photo Frame on, it starts to lose battery. I can see it go from 100%, down and down and down by a percentage point every 5 minutes or so. If left, it would eventually discharge completely.
I am running this iPad on an official Apple 10w charger, not something underpowered. So, the question is:
    (Or questions are)
Is this a fault (I suspect yes)
Is there something I can do to remedy this?
Any thoughts appreciated. Otherwise it might be a trip to the Apple store to see a genius (and possibly get an exchange?)

So, no further responses to this, but I have heard anecdotally that this has happened to other people.
But thinking of the logic here:
    - A function of the device is to behave like a digital photo frame.
    - A photo frame typically is left on continuously so that pictures get seen at all times
    - For pictures to be on at all times, it must be charging
    BUT
    - The retina screen needs too much power to be lit *AND* display photos, thus making a mockery of previous 3 points.
It just doesn't make sense to me. If you *know* that the device is not capable of delivering a piece of functionality like this, you disable it, or you warn against its use or you re-engineer it until it works. None of which happened.

  • Photos not updated when in photo frame mode

I have two iPads and I have enabled photo frame to display photos only from photostream using the same account.  The reason I did this is to give one iPad to my elderly parents so they can see my family photos in photo frame mode, just like the regular digital photo frame except photos are dynamiclly updated.
I was expecting the photo frame to pick up newly taken photos.  However, the photo frame still display the same photos in the loop unless I unlock the ipad and start photo frame again (by pressing power button twice and then the photo frame button.)  Does anyone have a solution for it?

Good that you solved your problem. There will probably be other users that need to solve the same problem and your solution might help many others. The support here comes from users helping other users.

  • Square digital photo frame

Dear Sony! I really enjoy your product Sony DPF D70. It has perfect design and looks amazing, but I have to choose what pictures is most important for me: gorizontal vs vertical. I have an idea to overcome this contradiction — please, make square digital photo frame, so all photos could look great. With best wishes.Irina V.

Are you judging the quality of the photo on an external monitor? The computer monitor is not where you should be judging:
    1. Disable overlays on the canvas
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24787
DV footage requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.
Now it needn't be DV only...Even uncompressed 8-bit on a computer monitor is reduced in quality.

  • Can't use Philips Electronic Photo Frame

I've just been given a new Philips electronic photo frame and have plugged it in to my Mac via the USB cable. The instruction book says it will be recognised as a mass storage device. However, it appears in my iPhoto window as a camera ("NO NAME") and I cannot see a way to transfer photos to it. The instruction book that came with the photo frame says:
"Connect Photo Frame to PC and put photos directly under the root directory of the Photo Frame drive.
Disconnect the USB cable. After a few seconds, all photos in the root directory will be automatically added to Photo Frame and the directory will be emptied.
Note : This operation does not apply to photos in sub-directories."
This means nothing to me (eg 'put photos directly under the root directory'). Can anyone help? I wish this thing was as intuitive as a Mac!

Does it show up on the desktop? If so, select your pics and go File -> Export and export them to the desktop, then drag them to the gadget. The Root Directory means "don't put them in Folders".
Afterwards, you can trash the files from the desktop, as they are copies. The Originals are safe in iPhoto.

  • Can't create new photo streams in Aperture

When I select new photos to add to a photo stream, I am not prompted to create a new photo stream, they are simply sent to the stock photo stream that is already shared between my iPhone and Aperture. How can I create new photo streams in Aperture if the standard method doesn't work for me? What is wrong with my setup that I can't follow the videos of instructions because I don't get a dialog box when I try to share?
    Thanks,
    Will

Is your Profile signature correct  Mac OS X (10.7.5) ? Then you cannot create Shared Photo Streams. They require OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 and Aperture 3.4, see:
Using and troubleshooting shared photo streams.
You can create Shared Photo Streams with:
an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iOS 6
a Mac using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 with Photo 9.4 or later or Aperture 3.4 or later
a PC using Windows 8, Windows 7, or Vista with the iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later installed. (iCloud Control Panel 2.1 required with Windows 8.)
If your system is compatible with shared streams, check, if you have enabled shared streams in both the System Preferences and Aperture's Preferences.

  • Aperture stretches or distorts some photos?

    Hi guys!
New to the forums, new to Aperture! Had a quick search and found a kind of answer, but am hoping for something better!
Have recently made the transition from iPhoto to Aperture and am enjoying it very much. However am experiencing what seems to be a bug or glitch that I'm hoping there is a fix or work around that helps my workflow.
Some of the photos imported from my iPhoto seems to display incorrectly in Aperture. Typically they appear ok in the thumb, until I click them and then they often crop right into one corner of the photo, or stretch or squash to on one edge of the frame or just generally bug out. I can find no way of reverting this except (as suggested by one forum discussion) go back to iPhoto and reset the thumb. This works (phew!) so the photos are not lost, but it's a real pain and defeats the point in using Aperture to some extent as I have to keep reverting back to iPhoto. Seems mad that iPhoto handles the photos better than Aperture, no?
So does anyone know what causes this, is there a clean way to fix this or is there a swift work around that doesn't involve dipping in and out of programs? I have literally tens of thousands of photos so if there is a way to blanket fix the whole lot rather than manually fix each problem photo, that would be even better!!
    Thanks in advance guys!
    Chris

Yeah, I wondered if that would help, but all I get is the message "None of the selected images needed reprocessing" and it makes no difference to the photo/thumb
I also tried 'Update Preview' and got the message "The selected item was externally edited in iPhoto and cannot be updated" - For some photos I assumed it was because I had made adjustments to the photo within iPhoto but I just did a test on one photo and aside from adjusting the orientation, it doesn't appear that I've done anything to the photo in iPhoto.
That's pretty crazy if it's all the photos that have been manipulated in iPhoto, I thought these things were supposed to play well together? That's why I bought Aperture!

  • Can you sync photos to an iPad from both Aperture and Pictures Folder?  I know there are options for both but I have photos on both Aperture and Pictures Folder that I want to put on my iPad.

If I select Aperture as the option to sync for photos I can't select photos from the Pictures folder.  Currently I have my photos synced to Aperture but I want to add photos from Pictures Folder.  It doesn't really look like it's possible to add stuff as it would delete my photos from Aperture if I resync with the Pictures Folder.  Really frustrating because I don't want to have to add those photos to my Aperture library as I'm currently moving away from using Aperture to Lightroom.  So all my older photos are in Aperture but most of my newer images are saved in my Pictures Folder.  Thanks for any help with this.
    Darci

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for that... I thought of that, of adding my iPad Pix as a subfolder of Pictures and syncing to Pictures but I remember many versions of iTunes' ago that I could add folders. Can I still do that or has that option gone? If the option doesn't exist then I suppose I will have to use folders and subfolders.
The thing is, I have iPad Pix as one folder then another folder of Pictures with various subfolders within it. It's a couple of those different subfolders I want to sync as well as iPad Pix and I don't want the hassle of moving and syncing specific folders etc... it really would be easier if I could sync more than one folder at the same time. Hope it's possible...
    Thanks,
    Maz

  • Apple TV 1st Gen + iTunes 10 + Photo Sync (with Aperture 3) = No Sync

I recently started to experience the same issues that others have reported regarding not being able to sync their Apple TV classic (1st generation) with iTunes 10.
I grudgingly disconnected my Apple TV from iTunes which wiped out all the content. Then when I started a new sync, the Apple TV (and my iMac) froze when trying to connect.
So, I disconnected them again, and quickly set the sync preferences to a "Custom" sync. After an hour of playing around with the settings, and turning on (one by one) syncing of video content, music and podcasts, I've narrowed it down ... to Photo syncing with Aperture.
All of the other content that iTunes will let me select, syncs fine. I've re-synced my entire music library, but if I even setup iTunes to sync 1 photo from Aperture to my Apple TV ... freeze-o-matic.
Anyone else run into this issue and/or been able to find a workaround to fix it?

Finally found answer, many thanks to:

This solved my questionHT1784 Re: In iTunes my Apple tv (1st Generation) only shows Summary and photos so I can no longer load a movie and sync to the Apple tv. Anybody else experienced options now missing ? Jun 13, 2012 5:04 AM (in response to Savlegs)
    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your library has become a secondary (streaming only) library only (it is possible to turn syncing off by ctrl-clicking on the Apple TV listing in the device list and choosing 'Turn Off Syncing" from the contextual menu) and you need to reconnect your library as a primary library.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • I have imported my I photo library into Aperture.  all the old i photo events are now in the aperture library showing number of photos but when clicked none display.  I can see the photos if i run the cursor over the project.  Help please.

I imported my i photo library into aperture.
I can see the i photo events in aperture library as events with the number of photos in each event.
When you click events in the aperture library no photos appear although if you roll the cursor over the event icon it show the photos.  If you click on the event either on the event icon or in the library no photos appear.
    Help

Check, if you have any filters set. The search fields in the Insector panel and the browser should be showing "All items" or "Showing All".
The Browser search field could be set for each project and album individually, so you have to check it for each project.
    Regards
    Léonie
For example: The projects count shows "20 items", but the browser is empty, because the project's filter is set to show only rejected items.

  • Should i keep pictures in photo stream in aperture, or copy them in a different folder

I have photo stream turned on from ipad and iphone.  All pics taken from these devices will appear in photo stream on my Imac aperture.
If i delete some pictures on my iphone, will it delete them from my photosteam on my Imac? Will I lose those pictures?
If i want to keep them forever on my Imac (since the storage is much bigger than iphone), do i have to copy those pictures to a different project or can i let them into photo stream project?

You will see the images in the Photo Stream View - My Photo Straem only for a month at most; then they may be removed from the stream. You need to import them into Aperture into a project to keep them permanently; just drag them to a project of your choice.
If you have enabled "Automatic Import" for "My PhotoStream", the import will be done automatically on a monthly basis. Aperture will copy the PhotoStream images to projects named by month and year, like "Dez 2012 Photo Stream".

  • Capabilities of Photos App and Aperture

I see a lot of discussion about the new Photos app as being a replacement for Aperture, but most of these discussions seem to ignore many of the key capabilities which make Aperture important to many professionals. And the idea that many of these have been removed but will reappear sometime in the future is ridiculous--nobody could run a business using a tool like that. Are you supposed to go out of business until the time in the future when Apple reintroduces the feature you depended on?
I'm also a little skeptical about how "modern" the app is and what a "streamlined interface" it has if it lacks many key features that already existed in the present software and which professional photographers and heavy Aperture users counted on. It's easy to "streamline" an interface if you just remove functionality. What many of the "reviewers" do not seem to understand is that it could take a year of more of heavy work to reconstruct an existing Aperture library with all that it contains because it is not just a hierarchical collection of pictures with keywords.
If you've been looking at Photos, maybe you can fill in some of the gaps in knowledge of features.
--Will Photos retain the edits of Photos in an Aperture library? Pros may have tens of thousands of photos (or more) with edits done over the past 8 years. Suggesting all of these need to be redone is kind of ridiculous. And why would any photographer ever trust an Apple product again if a corporate move resulted in that!
--If some "tools" are missing, then all of them might as well be missing as far as importing an Aperture library since you wouldn't really know which of your tens of thousands of pictures which had been edited were affected. You couldn't trust the "versions" in your library as some would be missing some of the edits. Is there a list of which "tools" are missing? Almost all of them are pretty heavily used by large numbers of people.
--I hear that the "Curves" tool is missing. What? This is one of the most heavily used tools of all, and one that was added to Aperture because of popular demand. What happens to all the edits done with the Curves tool? Do they disappear, making the library of edits useless? What possible reason would there be for removing something that important?
--Does Photos feature a Web journal which allows collections of photos to be output as Web pages to be shared with clients or others?
--Can I exports groups of files in any size and format (RAW, jpeg, TIFF, PNG., etc.)? You have to be able to do this for the product to be of any use to a professional at all.
--Can I take advantage of multiple monitors to do things like show sets of photos and controls on one monitor and a full-screen image on the other?
--I've hear the flags feature is gone. Why? What happens to all the images I've flagged through the years for one reason or another? Are pros supposed to go through 100,000 images they have stored in their library and flag them all again?
--I've heard that "Stacks" is missing. For professional sports photographers, that is essential. You take bursts of images, you want them stacked on import so it's easy to pick the best from a burst and quickly get rid of the best. Why on earth would this be removed? It was one of the key selling points in early Aperture marketing and a heavily used feature.
--Does the new app show the focus points, hot and cold areas, etc. on the pictures if so desired?
--What happens to books, smart albums, Web journals, projects, folder, albums, etc. One heck of a lot of time has gone in to creating all of these.
--Can I search using any metadata, keyword, etc.?
--Can I customize my display to see the metadata I want in a particular situation. I certainly don't want to see all of it, but there are key fields which may be especially important.
--How long would it take to "import" an Aperture library of, say, 500 gigabytes, into Photos? Would this would require another storage medium to store the new library as well as the old? I'm a little wary here, as the Aperture to Aperture 3 upgrade took 24 hours or more for many people.
--Is iCloud storage of photos really practical for professionals who may have libraries of a terabyte or more? How exactly would all of this information migrate into the cloud? Who's got the bandwith for that?
Anyone who could do a proper comparison of Aperture and Photos, from the perspective of a sophisticated Aperture, and not just gush about how it's an improvement on iPhoto, would be much appreciated. I haven't been able to figure much out from what I've seen so far.

The app is in beta and we're not allowed comment. That's standard policy. What you can glean from reading around the web is the same that we can. My read on what I've seen: It's a step-up for iPhoto uses but for Pro users it's time to look elsewhere. It's not a robust Pro tool.

  • A better manual? & what about photo stream from Aperture?

Is there a better manual for ATV other than the one that came with it? I find that one VERY lacking in operating instructions for the ATV.
And what about setting up to stream photos from my photos in Aperture? The only options in the menu are Flickr, Mobile Me and to sync. Syncing all my photos would really eat up the HD space! I would rather stream.
Looks like the option to stream photos from Aperture was eliminated with the last ATV firmware update. What gives Apple??

I have a similar problem using photo stream, turned it on the other day after I had been emailing pics from my laptop and then opened mail on my iPad and opened pics which were all high resolution, photos looked great in photos and albums, but a couple of hours later when they had downloaded in photo stream they were pixelated. They also streamed to my iPhone 4 and the same problem there. A couple of months ago I installed iPhoto on my phone and edited a pic that was on my phone and when saved it also pixelated. I'm beginning to think this is maybe the cause of this, because as I have said, these are high res files and look great when viewed through camera roll, photos or albums, it's only the photo stream folder that is affected. Does photo stream down sample images? Doesn't explain why the iPhoto edit on my phone pixelated though. real curious as to why this is happening, maybe just turn photo stream off.
