how do i create a slideshow out of a photo book? It's easy in iPhoto, how does it work in aperture?

Well, as I mentioned I haven't used iPhoto in years. So I have a new 27" iMac with Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 and Upgraded to Aperture 3.5.1 and had to convert Libraries for Aperture 3.5.1. So after reading your question and Léonie info. I opened iPhoto and there was the Library I was using in Aperture now in iPhoto a little different, projects were now events. I did nothing but open iPhoto. So I open the book I had made in Aperture, it was under Projects in iPhoto as a book. Hit slideshow button and it played. They slideshow is a nice feature. In Aperture the book comes up in a new category iPhoto print projects the original is still where it was but you are you can not edit an iPhoto print project in Aperture no big deal. This was by accident. Could this be a look a Photos of the future? The original book is fine in Aperture.

Who can I contact about poor quality aperture photobook

I have used aperture photobook without difficulty in the past. This time, I ordered a book and it had a line going through one or more of the photos on arrival at my home. This was a gift. Nowhere when I proofed this was this line evident. I realize that I had moved a photo but this line was not apparent . Does anyone at the printing end not proof as well? I could not believe this was printed. I do not know who to contact. If I do not get a free reprint this will be my last time using this service. Thanks for any comments

You can convert them to MP3, but it is a lossy format, so will lose some of the music's info. How much information that you lose will depend upon the quality settings that you had for the MP3 conversion - the options for MP3 range from 16 kbps at the lowest end to 320 at the highest (higher numbers will also give larger file sizes, so each track will take up more space on your iPod). You can change the conversion settings via the 'Import Settings button bottom right of the General tab in Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac) :

And check what shows at the bottom of the iPod's Summary tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, there is a tickbox for 'convert higher bit rate songs to ...'
Your iPod will play AAC files (you can buy music from the iTunes store app on your iPod, and they will download as AAC, so they should play). AAC files will also take up more space.
So depending upon your iPod's capacity and how much music that you want on it you want to play with the track settings and see which gives you quality that you're happy with.

Status of my Aperture Photobook order

I ordered a photobook from Aperture 3 weeks ago and wanted to find out the status of my photo book order in the UK, and I can't find a number to contact. Any suggestions from anyone who to contact?

Missing Aperture photobook order.

I recently ordered two copies of a photobook I've been working on from Aperture. I can confirm that my bank account has been charged for the full cost of the order, but I have received no email confirmation nor can I find any evidence on my Apple account of the order. What has happened?

Now it is working again.

Aperture Photobooks - RAw or Jpegs?

I am new to Aperture and starting to make a photobook. I have jpeg and RAW pairs of the images I am using. I can't seem to figure out which one Aperture is using when I am compiling the book. Does it matter which file the view is set to? Any insight would be great.

Aperture will use either the raw or the jpeg when rendering the the images in your book, depending on what you have set as the original for the pair. You can change the original to be used for a raw+jpeg pair in the Photos menu:
Photos > Use jpeg as original or Photos > Use raw as original
I tested this by using raw+jpeg pairs, where the raw is of an unsupported format or differs considerably from the jpeg, so it was obvious, which original files has been used to render the images in the book.

Aperture Photobooks vs. iPhoto

Does Aperture provide more photo book options than iPhoto? Is there someplace where I can see a comparison?

You can download the demo version and create a test book to see what is available as far as themes, etc. Aperture only offers 6 themes: Art Collection, Picture Book, Proof Book, Special Occasion, Stock Book and Stock Book Black. Pretty much geared to the professional photographer. The Special Occasion is the closest to a consumer type of book theme. Only

How to print photobook pages into A4 paper

how do we print the photobook pages we made from Aperture after saving as PDF format. The PDF file when open in Adobe PDF is showing each single page only and it does not show 2 pages spread out like we saw in the Aperture photobook layout. do i need to use another program to do the layout beofre printing out in an A4 paper? I intent to do a layflat photobook which require the sticking of the pages for binding later. someone pleeas help. thank you.

I have give a several try to your new instruction but the gap is there no matter how i set the paper size. I gave an example of this page layout of 2.5in x 2.5 in . If i read your article correctly , my total page size is suppose to be 5inx5in.
Just look at the image and i had try out 2 custom setting in the paper size . You will notice the difference of these two layout after i open the preview for PDF.
the first one, the paper size remain as original as it is (2.5inx2.5in per page) .The image is pretty close side by side but the gap can still noticeable.
The second image is using your instructions earlier (When you export your book define a custom paper size that is exactly the size of two pages of your open book. That you define in the "Manage Custom Sizes"-entry of the "Paper Size" selector of the Print panel) - the result = it shrank to smaller size and left a huge gap in between those image. The paper size was set as 5inx5in per page.

Output Photobooks to PDF using Lightroom vs Aperture

Hello,
I have been using Lightroom since it was first launched and I love it. However, now I need to find a good way to create and layout my own photobook and output it to PDF so I can publish it on Lulu.com and it looks like Lightroom lacks a feature like this, while Aperture offers a pretty good way for users to create their own books and export to PDF.
Is that really so ? Are there any plans for Lightroom to offer this feature as well ? I do not want to pay $200 on Aperture just for that when I am so happy with Lightroom.

Is layout flexibility the key issue for you? For example, you could generate PDFs of sections from Lightroom's Print workspace, then upload them. I've tried this - though I would add that it's not as easy as it should be (luckily I also have InDesign). What are your key issues?

Apple Photobooks and Prints Color Space? - Aperture

Does apple use Adobe RGB or sRGB to print the photobooks and prints via Aperture? Also what is the perfered ppi setting?
I am looking for a professional Adobe RGB printer with a printer specific ppi setting that I can order from via Aperture. If anybody knows these setting for Apple or another printer please let me know!!!

Can I suggest you buy Philip Andrews book, Advanced Photoshop Elements 10. he explains colour spaces and much much more very clearly and exactly what can be done with 16 bit files and what you then have to change to 8 bit to accomplish. He's written basic and advanced guides for Elements since day one. Usually available from Amazon for under £20.

Iphoto vs Aperture for making photobooks

Hello everyone,
I am looking to make a high quality photobook for my parents. I would love to use iphoto however it is very restricting in not allowing me to add more text than the different formats provide. Also I have been reading in the forums that picture quality through iphoto is rather poor BUT these are old posts (2006).
So my questions are:has the quality issue been addressed on iphoto 08 and does aperture allow for greater felxibility in positioning, editing and writing more text. Is the picture quality far superior?
I really don't have the money to spend on new software at the moment however I will sacrifice if Aperture is truly worth it. In the end I would probably only use it to create photobooks....

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Only folks who have issues post here, so the few that have had a poor experience will, but the many who have been very pleased tend not too - it's for folks who have issues, after all. That said, I've seen very few complaints about the quality of the books and I note that folks usually have them quickly resolved by Apple. The key would seem to be time: order your book in good time so that if there is an issue you have time to have it dealt with.
Aperture uses the same Printing Service as iPhoto, but you do have more control over the layouts. Buying Aperture to only do this job though is akin to buying a drill so that you can use the butt end to hammer in nails.

How do I backorder Photobooks made with aperture

I've ordered two books a year ago and I want more items of the same books.
I found my order# etc.. but nobody seems to know how I can backorder my books.

Aperture does not support calendars or cards.
But if you have upgraded iPhoto to a version 9.4.x, compatible with Aperture 3.4.1, you can open your Aperture library in iPhoto and create the calendar there.

Photoshop CS5, Photoshop CS5 ex, Photoshop Elements 9, iPhoto, Aperture????

Okay.... so I am a bit overwhelmed with trying to decide if I should be upgrading from iPhoto or not.
iPhoto has been great for making my photobooks. But, on occasion, it has been a bit frustrating trying to get the right number of vertical vs. horizontal photos on a page. Sometimes when adding, if you add in the right order, configurations can change, usually in size (not necessarily orientation unless it is the fewer photos per page layouts 2-3 or 4). But, it makes it go really quickly to do albums as there isn't much engineering going on as you go from page to page (on occasion, I make a separate dummy album that has a different theme that I think manages my horizontal v. vertical issue or perhaps the number of photos allowed on a page (as some themes only have up to 4 or 6 photos per page and on occasion, I like to have more 9, for example)).
Primarily, I have used iPhoto to do personal albums. I intend on possibly starting to offer my services to get albums done for people and/or do slideshow videos for them. With that, I do end up, even with my own, photos from years past or current that have coloring issues or rips/tears/fading.
As it is right now, I have used iPhoto to work on the highlights, shadows, etc, which for me right now, is by trial and error.... I don't really know what I am doing and iPhoto doesn't seem to care. Fortunately, whatever I do, I can go back to the original, which I think is true in Aperture as well... However, I think I might have heard differently with Photoshop (CS5 or Elements)?
I have not installed any plug-ins for the other printer services in iPhoto (eg. Leather Craftsmen), but, I know it is possible a client may want a 12x12 album or some of those other shapes, sizes, cover options out there.... e.g. Shutterfly, even.
One other bit of information is that I am not just a candid completely amateur photographer either. I do take quite a bit of photos with my Canon Rebel Xsi. Not top of the line.... but, although I can should in raw, have chose to always just go with jpeg as this is a hobby of mine and I really don't have loads of time to just adjust all my photos... nor necessarily the space on my computer to put everything at raw. But, I could be persuaded otherwise, if I really knew how to use and really know what the benefits of it are (again, I know I should take classes or something, just don't know where to focus my attention).
So, what am I asking? Well, a few things:
1. If my primary goal is to make Photobooks, which program(s) should I have?
2. I understand you could have iPhoto or Aperture and then edit photos in PhotoShop.... Does that save the file back to Aperture/iPhoto or does it make a separate file in Photoshop?
3. Which books, classes, etc would you suggest to learn the uses of such program(s)?
4. Does the program you mention in #1 strong enough to handle typical adjustments on jpegs-aging, color casts, lack of proper lighting, red-eye (iPhoto seems to do okay on this even in the auto function, but on occasion, it sometimes replaces with too dark of a correction, or not fully complete.)
5. Does Shutterfly have a print plug-in so I could make photobooks on either Aperture or iPhoto and have Shutterfly print? Or is that just available on Photoshop (unless I print to jpegs and then upload to Shutterfly using the Shutterfly uploader)?
6. Is it really beneficial to shoot in raw over jpeg?
7. If Photoshop is even part of your answer in #1, is it worth it to have CS5 or CS5 Extended with the 3D option?

iPhoto is entirely template driven, Aperture's books are very customisable and there are losts of online options too. Google a bit and see what's out there.

Yes and Yes. In iPhoto: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
In Aperture, Preferences _. Export and set your external editor there. WHen you send a pic to PS with Aperture it makes a tiif or psd and sends it over. Saving in Photoshop brings it back.

Photoshop Elements is a good compromise between the cost of full photoshop and the features you'll need.

You could look that one up at Shutterfly yourself, no?

Given the amount of your experience, rather than diving in and spending a whole lot of money, start with iPhoto and Photoshop Elements. Explore. IF you want to upgrade, when you're ready, migrate to Aperture and Elements. I think you're a good way from facing CS5 yet.

Putting fileinfo data on bottom of image for use in building a photobook for printing/binding

I wonder if someone on here could help me with a problem I have? I am not a script expert by any means. The term "amateur" is probably pretty accurate!
I have a few hundred pictures I want to include into a (to be printed) photobook. I want to put some key EXIF/Fileinfo data on the images so that they remind me of what file, when it was taken, with what and with what settings. I found an excellent script (by JJmack?) which does what i want with one exception. The script (below) puts the info on the image starting on the top left (0,0) and I really want it to start on the bottom left (so that it looks like a caption). I have tweaked the original 5 lines of data down to one line, and have reduced the font size but I simply do not have the skills to amend it to add the selected text to the bottom left.
I was hoping that someone on this forum might be kind enough to help - not least because I am sure there are others who would want to the same thing? Or am I being a complete idiot and there is a simpler way to achieve what I am trying to do?

I wrote that script to be used within an Action. The Action uses the script to add the text layer. The text layer becomes the current active layer. The action can then position the layer anywhere over the document by aligning the layer to a selection. Also add a layer style like set fill to 0 and adding a drop shadow and emboss. That is the un-expanded step below the set current layer is setting a style and is lengthy.

Is it possible to export a Book from Aperture 3 to iPhoto?

I shot a wedding for a friend and made a layout of a book on Aperture 3.
Printed a few books which I thought were beautiful.
I was wondering if it would be possible to export this book from Aperture (with the layout and photos intact) as a file (editable or read-only), so my friend can import and open it using iPhoto and order more copies of the book through Apple when she pleases.
Tried Google and couldn't find an answer. Thank you for taking the time.

How about importing from iPhoto into Aperture 3?
I have made a photobook in iPhoto and then bought Aperture 3, but I can't find it possible to export the book in a format that I can open in Aperture. Also, when I export the book in size Large or above, iPhoto crashes.
