Aperture Plug-ins

Hi there!
Running the latest version of Aperture under Mountain Lion.
Whenever I go to edit a file in Aperture using 'edit with plug-ins' I see a whole load of old plug-in names which I'm sure I've binned ages ago.
Is there anyway I can go through and delete the names?
For example, I bought the new Nik suite from Google recently. Installed. Working brilliantly. I deleted the old Nik suite yet in still shows up in the menu under 'edit with plug-ins'.
Help much appreciated!
Regards!
Mark.

Computer library solved the problem. I just remembered. Looking in the other library!
But thanks for replying!
Cheers!
M.

DonCarlos, you have to create the folders if you do not have them. In Finder, follow the folders up to Aperture. This is where I had to create "Plug-Ins" and then clicked on it to open. Then created its subfolder "Export". I dumped the Flickr plugin here and restarted Aperture. Works perfectly.

  • Can I switch my Aperture plug-ins to Lightroom?

    Hi all,
I've been using Aperture for about 4 years, but I think I'm going to move over to Lightroom.  Do you know if I can install my Aperture plug-ins (Photomatix, PTLens, and others) into Lightroom?  (I think not, right?  I think I'll have to re-purchase them?)
    Thank you!

You would not be able to install them in LR, but you may not need to re-purchase them. You'll have to look at each plug-in's licence to be sure.

  • New Aperture Plug-Ins Available

I saw an announcement about Human Software's Edit for Aperture 2.1 consisting of 12 modules. Any recommendations or experience with this product? Believe they already provide similar if not identical plug-ins for Photoshop. It sounds like a lot of capability.

  • Add/delete aperture plug-ins?

I installed a plug-in called Border FX, so I could type text onto a photo; but it doesn't work, so I would like to delete it but can't find way to do that.
    Anyone know how?
Also -- any good plug-ins for this?

    To answer your questions:
    1. I got Border FX from it's site, latest version
    2. Tried it again. It still doesn't work
    3. I'm not interested in seeing if your claims are backed up but perhaps you might want to add my data to your track record info.
    4. What program? It was a toss up between latest Photoshop and Painter 12 -- I had an old, old Photoshop that was quite suitable for me but now no longer works under Mac OS 10.7/Lion. I got Painter 12. It meets my core needs (adding text, having layers) and opens up some fun directions I've been interested in. I'll add, though, that it crashes now and then and I hope/expect they will deal with that. If I was in a more pressured business situation I'd recommend Photoshop.

  • What are the best free Aperture 3 plug-ins?

    Hi everyone!
I'm low on money and am looking for Aperture plug-ins that can really take editing jpegs to a whole new level. I've scoured the Net and have found only demo versions of software that are really expensive to purchase.
Can anyone suggest some free plug-ins that I can download or suggest some workaround methods found in Aperture 3?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

You have Aperture.  Aperture comes with a very broad, robust set of image development tools.  You can not composite within Aperture (you'll need a graphics program to add data, text, or graphics primitives to your images), but you do most everything else.
(You can add text with the excellent _free_ plug-in, Border FX.)
What is it you are trying to do?  I cannot imagine a level of image development beyond which Aperture can take you (but if you want to do graphics editing, you'll need a graphics program).

  • Plug-ins in aperture

it's possible to remove some pluins from aperture ?
it' s possible that some plug ins prevent to export some version?

See this document:  Aperture 3.4 and later: Some third-party plug-ins are no longer compatible
Check with the manufacturer's of your plug-ins, if the plug-ins are compatible with Aperture 3.4.
To uninstall, remove them from the folder
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
They are either in the subfolder "Edit" or "Export", or both.
They should not interfere with Exporting, unless they are used as export plug-ins or the installer changed more in the system than putting the plug-in into the folder.

  • HT4007 DxO plug-ins in Aperture

in previous versions of Aperture and DxO, I had the use of the DxO software through a plug-in in Aperture. It has disappeared and I can't find any infpormation relating to how I might get it back.
    Any experiences out there?

Check the version of the plug-in you have, if it is compatible with the latest Aperture version. With Aperture 3.4.3 and Mt. Lion all plug-ins must be sand-boxed, see: Aperture 3.4 and later: Some third-party plug-ins are no longer compatible
If your plug-in is compatible with Aperture 3.4, it should be installed in the Applications Support folder in your User Library or System Library:
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
either in the sub folders "Export" or "Edit".

  • Delete Plug-ins

I'm trying to delete a plug-in for Aperture.
I read a couple of post already... All refering to the "Library/Application Support/Aperture" folder.
This may sound funny but I can't find any Aperture folder on my hard drive. I see aperture in my Applications. I use Aperture and see the plug-ins in my export window. Meaning, it is installed somewhere.
The Aperture folder is not showing when I look at files/folders on: Macintosh HD, neither on my user profile folder. Is this possible?
    Thanks!!!

The home library folder is hidden in Lion (don;t ask ) To see it in Finder go to the Go menu and press the option key, the Library folder will appear (a bit like Brigadoon out of the mist).
If the plug-in is not in your Library/Application Support folder look in the system folder at /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins.

  • DxO Optics Pro - Aperture plug-in?

    Hi,
The Apple list of plug-ins includes DXO Optics Pro.  I've got a trial version of v9.0 & have it running fine as a image editor.  Anyone know how to install it as a plug-in?
Have searched several places & mostly found that it does not work as a plug-in.  Also found a plug-in called Catapult that's used to shuffle finles back & forth between Aperture & DxO.  Tried dropping the application into Liobrary>Application Support>Aperture>Plug-ins but no luck.  Now I can't remove the alias out of the Library folder.
So can it really be used as a plug-in?
    Thanks much!

Here's a follow up for anyone who finds this thread in the future.  I may have answered my own question but since I'm still learning OP9, there may be another feature yet to be discovered.  Optics Pro 9 has a new feature, Export to Application, that might be stretched to consider it a plug-in.  You don't install it as a plug-in or even select it as an external editor from Aperture- it seems designed to be a stand alone preprocessor for your RAW files.
If you wish to continue using Aperture for DAM, you'd launch OP9 after importing your RAW files into Aperture.  The OP9 Organize tab shows the complete folder structure on your storage drive including all the folders w/in the Aperture container.  Folder names are the cryptic number system used by Aperture so navigating could be a challenge in a large library.  Anyway, this gives you complete access to all your original files so they can be opened in OP9 using its RAW converter for further processing.  Several of OP9 tools such as Prime noise reduction can only be applied to the original RAW file.  After processing is complete, you Export to Application & choose Aperture.  After you've chosen a file format, OP9 will place the file back into the Aperture container as an untitled project & the file will have "_openwith" at the end of the name.  Within Aperture, you can then move the file to any project or folder you wish.
This certainly makes round tripping easier but not as convent as say NIK plugins or what the plug-in Catapult apparently does - put the file back into a stack w/ the parent file.

  • Why do external editors i.e. nik plug-ins disappear from the Edit in menu?

Time and time again , after creating external editors in the Edit in menu,  they disappear.  I've had this happen in LR3 and now in LR4.  Does anyone know of this?

    daikambu65 wrote:
Corky, I just tried the path you suggested. I moved the files up one level from LIbrary>Application Assistants>Aperture>Plug Ins>Edit to the Plug Ins folder. It worked.
I can now start the NIK plugins either from the pull-down meny under photo in the Menu Bar, or by right-clicking my mouse.
A slight change of subject. I've got the 200-page book, Exploring Aperture. Also have the downloaded .pdf  file of the same book. How is it that, on the Apple Support webpage, they have a .pdf book for Aperture 3.4 that is 800-pages? Did anyone else notice that?
Good to hear you got it working.
The 'Exploring Aperture' is the book that came with Aperture 3 in the retail box (in downloadable form). It goes along with the Sample library that was on the install disc and was designed to walk new users through the basics of the program.
The 800+ page PDF is the actual user's manual which describes all aspects of Aperture 3.4 in detail (although there may be some omissions here and there due to updates since 3.4). I read the original version of the user's manual when it was Aperture 3.0 and it is very informative (especially if you like that kind of reading - which I do).
If you do read through and understand the user's manual PDF, then you will know the program well. You can use the Exploring Aperture book but there will be references to the sample library which you won't have unless you have the retail install disc.
Note - there are books you can buy, but none of them really cover Aperture 3.4.x (a couple were updated for Aperture 3.3, but some significant changes were made that - IMHO - don't make buying those books of more value than just reading the user's manual). It took me about a week of reading each evening to complete it.

  • Plug-ins, what's the point?

I don't understand the advantage of using a plug-in? The editing is on a version, not layered on the master (like Aperture edits are). Is seems the same as round trip editing in an external program, right? Why not just allow the Aperture user to add a bunch of programs to the external application list? Would that be the same thing?

Aperture also has localised editing built-in ... it's called the Retouch Brush.
It is, of course, very limited compared to what Lr 2.0 is capable of, but I predict that Apple are hard at work with closing that gap.
Non-destructive editing is the way of the future, and if Apple don't step up to the challenge I'm afraid that Aperture will fall by the wayside, eventually.
The way I see it the current editing plug-ins in Aperture and the (built-in) localised editing tools in Lr 2.0 are two completely different things, and I don't quite understand why they are being compared all the time.
The Aperture plug-ins are just "external editors" working on a "cooked" copy of the original file.
The new Lr 2.0 tools are an integrated part of the "parametric image engine" - the same way that the Retouch tool is in Aperture.

  • Plug-ins Can't get them to work !!

I have searched in plug-ins and read the answers, and got side tracked for about 30 min while i looked at all the cool plug-ins that are available. My problem is that I have installed a few plug-ins and then don't show - Images-edit with-dodge& burn is the only thing shows.
I did not have a Plug-in folder in my Aperture so as instructed I made one. A made one in both the system side HD>Lib>App support>Aperture>Plug-ins; that didn't work. Next I did the same under the user umbrella User>Same as above... in either case no plug-in show up.. I'm confused..
Is there another place for these plugin to hide in! or am I just loopy with all this summer heat....
Current PLus-ins trying to install; Hydra, Iflcker, Getty

Be sure the name of the folder you created is exactly correct: Plug-Ins
No spaces, caps on the P & the I. (not positive if the caps matter, but that's how it is in my system).
The Hydra plug in has given a lot of people issues, so I'd skip that one for now, but the flicker should be no issue. You might try downloading something like "DFX" or "Light" which has an actual installer. That may help get your system set up right, then you can add the others.

  • Can't install Plug ins

Hello, I've been trying to install BorderFX but no success. The installation well through just fine but I don't see it in File>Export. It says No Plug-ins Installed. The only guide on BorderFX's support page regarding the installation process is to follow the .mkpg installation package, which I did.
When I try to go to HD>Library>App Support>Aperture>Plug Ins it won't let me go into the folder because I don't have permission? but I am sure I am logged in as Admin. :S
    Help anyone?

Maybe you can help me. I have tried to install the Photoshelter plug-in for Aperture and while it looks like I am doing everything right, it doesn't appear in the Export menu as it should. Can you help? Thanks!
