Aperture plugin not copying all previews

Using "v1.1" of the plugin (or rather, it's actually 1.0.9 something)
Looks like the plugin is does not copy over half of previews from the Aperture library.  I ran three tests on approximately 1100 photos each.
Method:
All photos were selected and previews deleted in Aperture. 82 photos were selected in Aperture, and small previews were generated (defined by preferences). Verified that, indeed, 82 previews existed in the Aperture library by examining the PREVIEWS directory within the library package.
Migrated using the new plugin. Selected all options.  Searched to find all JPEGs with _Aperture_preview.jpg appended in the Lightroom target directory. Only 31 images found.  Some of the previews that did copy were side by side others that did not copy in the same project, from the same camera.  I can’t find a reason why they did not copy.
Here’s and entry from the log:
Failed to copy /Volumes/Photos/Aperture Library/Ashi/IMG_8250.JPG to destination directory
Some preview files that did not copy show in the log, but most do not.
Anyone else seeing this?  You can test if your previews copy, too, by using the method above.

Hi,
Had you imported a new set of images around the time the problem started?  There have been situations where a corrupted image being imported has given rise to something like what you describe.
If the answer is "no", then suggest you do a repair, or a rebuild if that doesn't work:
To repair or rebuild your Aperture library
1  Close Aperture, if it’s open.
2  Locate the Aperture library you want to fix, then hold down the Command and Option keys while double-clicking the Aperture library. The Aperture Library First Aid dialog appears.
3  In the Aperture Library First Aid dialog, do one of the following:
• To repair the permissions of the files within your Aperture library: Select Repairing Permissions.
This option should be used when Aperture can’t access some of the image files within the database or Aperture is unable to open the library itself. The Repairing Permissions option reviews each file in your Aperture library and sets the read and write access of each file where appropriate, allowing Aperture to access the files again.

  • Aperture library to lightroom plugin not transfering all photos or projects.

I am trying to use the recent aperture import plug in added to LR5.  Many of my projects and photos are failing transfer stating "(Possible reasons include asset offline or unsupported asset type.)" I cannot find the difference of the failed jpegs, NEFs, from the others which tranfered.  Any help, suggestions??

No, no, no.  Can't believe they still don't understand the plugin after all this time.  Adobe support is abysmal.  And you pay a subscription fee!
The plug-in is a great alternative, but it does have issues.  And the most important steps for migration need to be done in Aperture, which may explain their skills gap.
See this post for a partial explanation.
How did your migration to Adobe Lightroom go?
The key to NOT running out of disk space is to relocate your images from "managed" status to "referenced".  You can specify a better folder structure for your resulting Lightroom library.  Be aware that you will need some overhead, as your Aperture library (metadata) takes space, as your Lightroom catalog will, too.  But migrating "managed" Aperture images results in a full copy.
There's other considerations for Aperture previews.  Although much smaller, all previews "should" be copied.  I've actually found that the plugin fails to copy a majority of previews.
Lightroom will copy managed raw files, but will just point to referenced raw files.  If you choose to copy previews, it will copy all previews.  Not much to the plugin, but it helps to know to pre-tag images in Aperture, and make sure you do some sort of file-level compare to make sure everything is copied over.  I've made several posts on these issues under "Photo Enthusiast" in this forum.

  • Why does iphoto not copy all photos when transfering

    Hi peeps.
why does iPhoto not copy all photos from an event when im copy/pasting to an external folder on my mac(for later transfer). All softwares are up to date and ive only just realised it happens, but when i copy all pics in an event then paste in a folder, the pic count is substantially different. for example i select all pictures in an event called 'new1', the count of files is 188. i then copy/ paste to a folder,  select all files and check 'info' and it says 141 files???
all i can see painstakingly going through to compare which images are in each place is that the ones that arent in my new folder , seem to be the ones ive edited in iPhoto??  conincidence? or am I missing something fundamental here?  Ive only just realised this is occuring. The trouble is, after moving images to folders/hard drives I  subsequently delete them from iphoto to keep my macbook airs HDD with some space.  So basically all of the versions of pictures I want, i.e, the new edited and adjusted versions are no longer! NOT HANDY!
      help please.

We've seen a few reports of this in the past while and no one is sure of the cause.
Use the File -> Export command. See this User Tip

for details of the options the Export Dialogue offers.

The trouble is, after moving images to folders/hard drives I  subsequently delete them from iphoto to keep my macbook airs HDD with some space.
means you are losing quality, metadata and the version of control. If you don't want these why use iPhoto at all?
You could just move the whole Library to an external:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Aperture is not showing all photos in photo stream.

Aperture is not showing all photos in photo stream.  I have re-set photo stream from within the aperture app, but it only downloads a small fraction of my photo stream.  Any ideas?

Sorry but you're wrong, as the article that you quoted pointed out
Since your Mac has more storage than your iOS devices, your photos automatically download and your Mac keeps every photo from your Photo Stream by default

    Hiya!
It depends on what kind of digital copy you have.  This article goes ino details regarding the two types, and depending on the type you have, you may or may not need the DVD to redeem the code.

  • Aperture will not import all CR2 (iPhoto is fine....)

I'm currently attempting to move from a PC to a Mac. For the most part this has been a positive experience however Aperture is starting to bug me.
My photo library has been copied across and some old NEF files converted to JPEG. The library is located in a folder in the Pictures directory. The entire library imports fine into iPhoto.
When attempting to import into Aperture I get seemingly random rejection of CR2 files. Photos prior to the failure import fine. Photos after the failure import fine. Around 20% of images are rejected.
When the failure occurs no error messages are sent to the console. Examination of photo metadata shows not significant differences between photos that work and photos that do not. Changing the file name to something shorter does not help.
Restarting Aperture does not work. Restarting the OS does not help. Downgrading to RAW 2.1 does not help.
The only similar report I have found was from people having issues with CF cards, and the solution was to copy the files locally and then import....
I'm not going to convert my CR2 files to DNG or JPEG just because Aperture is buggy. Other than that any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (is there an Aperture log file somewhere ?)
    Camera: Canon EOS 30D
    Aperture 2.1.2
    OSX 10.5.6

    Thanks !

I seem to be having the same problem. I was to shoot an entire stage production with a canon 50D and when I only had a 4gb card at my disposal, I wanted to take some more pics so I went with Raw2. apparently aperture doesnt like this. it imported the project but all it gives me are thumbnails and in the canvas it says "unsupported image format".
what do they expect me to do...spin back time and reshoot the entire production? no i dont think so...apple needs to get on this (if they havent already) and make this work.

  • Eyedropper tool does not copy all attributes

Illustrator CS2 with Windows XP (SP2)
Every document I've checked says that AI CS2's eyedropper tool will copy all appearance attributes. Yet it fails to copy the Align Stroke attribute.
It's not given as an option on preferences so I haven't inadvertently turned it off. All the others work ok. I gather from other documents in this forum that Align Stroke is new to CS2? Could Adobe have forgotten to add a line of code?
    Grimble.

    > If you wouldn't mind humoring me a little longer, could you confirm that the attributes listed under Appearance, Focal Stroke are: Color, Transparency, Overprint, Weight, Cap, Join, Miter Limit, and Dash Pattern; i.e. that Align Stroke does not appear in the list?
Yes, that is correct. Align Stroke is an effect, so like all other effects it does not appear specifically on the list. The transfer of effects with the Eyedropper is controlled by having the main Appearance checkbox checked. So checking all the items listed
underneath Appearance while leaving the Appearance checkbox itself unchecked means you want to transfer all aspects of Appearance
except Effects. (Brushes are another Effect that is applied through a palette instead of through the Effects menu.)
Since the behavior of Effects are dependent upon each other and upon the fills and strokes (for example, many of them are applied to a specific fill or stroke), they can only be transferred if the entire Appearance is transferred. That's why there is no Effects line. The Appearance checkbox itself means transfer the
    entire appearance.
Is your Eyedropper tool transferring other kinds of effects such as Drop Shadow and Roughen?
    > Secondly, when I choose a tool, such as pen or rectangle, with no object selected (in order to draw a new object), I find that the Align Stroke option is greyed out - and it is the only option greyed out in Stroke. It only becomes functional after the object is drawn (and still selected) or when another object is selected. This also seems unusual behaviour and I'm wondering if it is normal?
I think it's odd too, and would consider it a bug. The Align Stroke item seems to have very conservative enabling rules. There are many other conditions under which it is disabled even though it is legal for the selection to carry aligned strokes. For example, it is disabled if you have a text object or a compound shape selected. Yet you can transfer outside or inside aligned strokes to compound shapes or text objects using the Eyedropper tool, and you can apply them to those objects by applying an appropriate Graphic Style, and you can apply them to those objects by dragging the Appearance indicator in the Layers palette.
My guess (I did not work on this feature so I don't know for sure) is that when it was first implemented it only worked on path objects, so the button was disabled for other kinds of selections, and then the implementation was beefed up to handle other kinds of objects, but the button enabling logic was never revised to reflect the new capabilities.

  • IPod not copying all songs back to pc

I've been trying to copy all my songs back from my ipod onto a new pc that I just got because my old one was stolen. I've tried using Yamipod and Copypod and both work to a certain extent. I have about 5200 songs and each program only copies about 3000 songs over, then gives me an error and says it can't copy the rest. At first I thought it was the program, but after trying out two different ones, I don't know what it is and I don't know how to fix this. Anybody have any ideas at all? I'm desperate! Thank you!

It might of loaded the whole iTunes database but not all songs, so all the other times you sync, iTunes thinks iPod already has the songs maybe.
Try running the latest updater on it and restoring it. Restore wipes the iPod clean and then u use iTUnes to load it back up. the latest iPod updater is version 03-23-2006 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Syncing audiobook did not copy all sections

Today I purchased an audiobook that downloaded in 7 sections.  When I sync'ed my iPod, I chose this new book and a book that I purchased about a year ago, which had 3 sections.  The sync took a LONG time.  I ended up leaving it alone for several hours.  When I came back and checked the iPod, I had section 1 & 3 of the older purchase and all but section 4 of the new purchase.
I tried to sync again with just the older book to see if it would fill in the missing section.  It did not.  I removed all selected music and books, then sync'ed again to remove everything from the iPod.  I again sync'ed with just the new purchase.  After more than an hour, I again had all but section 4 of the new purchase on the iPod.  This time I noticed an icon with pop-up text saying "iTunes could not copy section 4 of 7 because the file could not be read or written."  UGH!  that doesn't sound good.
Any ideas what could be happening?? Thank you in advance.
    Computer OS - Windows 7
    iPod Touch Version 6.1.6
    iTunes version 12.0.1.26

Sorry this solution is late but I just got off of the phone with Apple support and this worked.
    Open iTunes
Connect your iPhone and keep it connected during this entire process.
In the iTunes menu at the very top (File, Edit, View) choose STORE> Sign in and sign into your iTunes account.
Once this is complete look at the upper right corner of iTunes and you will see an iPhone and Store button, cick STORE.  Now you will be in the iTunes store where you see the advertisements of the various albums, songs etc.  Look on your upper left of the window for your itunes account name and in the black band next to your iTunes account name, you will see a House icon, then Music, Movies, TV Shows etc.
Make sure the HOUSE icon is selected.
Stay on this screen in iTunes and on the lower RIGHT, you will see an area that says- QUICK LINKS.  In that area click - Purchased
After you do this you will be transported to another area of iTunes.  Here there will be a menu across the top- Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Books are the choices.
Choose APPS and you will see the apps that you have purchased.  You will also see the apps that didn't download to your phone.
Find the apps that didn't download and click the cloud next to their name.  Doing this will download the chosen apps to the computer you are on.
Once you have downloaded the apps in question, in the upper right corner click LIBRARY.
Now you should see the button that says iPhone because your phone is still plugged in.  Click the iPhone button and then click SYNC on the lower right to sync your iPhone.
The apps you downloaded will now be on your phone.
Sorry for the long instructions but this is what works.

  • Aperture does not recognize all photos on sd card

I have a weird issue with Aperture. When I took the SD card out of my Nikon D3100 and put it in my MacBook Pro it only recognized the pictures I took a couple weeks ago. I took a series of photos and video last night and my childs christmas program and they will not show up in Aperture. The weird thing is that iPhoto will see them fine. I tried manually copying the pictures to a folder on my computer then tried to import from that folder but they still will not appear then either. As far as I can tell the pictures are not corrupted and I can open them in iPhoto, Preview and even Image Capture sees them. When I get info all the meta data appears. I did not shoot them RAW either which I have had no problem in the past importing anyway. These where all taken with the normal jpeg option at the full 14.2mp.
I made sure my Aperture is fully updated too. Any suggestions on how to get Aperture to recognize these pictures?

Nevermind, I just spoke with my wife who imported the pictures last night just from that event. She did not delete them after importing either. I guess next time this happens I will uncheck the box that says "Do not import duplicates" to troubleshoot.

  • TS3946 Aperture Book: images look fine in Aperture but not in PDF preview.  OS 10.9, Aperture 3.4.5

Aperture 3.4.5, OS 10.9.  When making a PDF prior to ordering a book, I note that images look fine within Aperture book module, but about 10 out of 100 images look terrible in the PDF.  Shall I ignore this and go ahead and order the book?

    Hi,
Strangely I'm now having exactly the same problem all of a sudden.  I've been building the book for about a month now (I've made about 6 before without any trouble) and along the way have been producing a pdf of the book to see how it will look.  Yesterday I noticed some of the images seemed to have lost colour when looking at the pdf version and then today, many pictures all of a sudden look exactly like the example you've supplied above.
I've tried shutting down my imac and restarting thinking it was a memory issue, have checked if I had any filters activated (which I don't and I haven't used filters in books before either), have tried repairing then rebuilding aperture, copying the book to a new library, new location, opening on a different mac and then printing again but none of this had any positive effect.
So from what I understand from your last post, the workaround you came up with was to revert to the original of each image that had the problem and then make the adjustments again?

  • Aperture 3 not sharing updated Previews with iLife/iWork

I have been experiencing an issue with Aperture 3 since updating to 3.4 (and still with the 3.4.2 update I installed on 11/4/2012).
Basically, iTunes, Settings (Desktop/Screensaver) and any iWork app (including Keynote from App store) when loading in the Aperture library doesn't load images I've been adding to Aperture over the last 3 months.  It gets my photo stream, but nothing else that I've added since August (I've added hundreds of images, non-photo stream images, since then).
I've tried doing Aperture Library repair/rebuild.
I've tried deleting iPod Photo Cache.
    I even tried re-installing iTunes 10.7
What else can I do?  I installed Aperture before App Store was out, so it's not as if I can re-download Aperture from App Store and do a re-install.
Short of just removing Aperture, re-installing 3 from the original version I bought then doing all the upgrades, I don't know what else I can do.  This is extremely frustrating as I can't get any new images on to my iPhone 5 or iPad 3 and my Desktop/Screensavers can't use my latest images, even from Smart Albums (like 5 star album, which I usually use for Wallpaper Rotation and Screen Saver on my Apple TV).
Would love some help.  I was hoping Aperture 3.4.2 would fix this, but no.  I thought iTunes 11 might hold hope, but since all other iLife/iWork apps are experiencing the same issue it seems that won't help either.
    Configuration details:
    MacBook Pro 17-inch (early 2010)
    Mac OS X 10.8.2
Aperture 3.4.2 (library size approaching 200GB)

You really seem to have exhausted most of the trouble shooting measures already.
I've also enabled/disabled Preview Sharing...basically any troubleshooting I've found online I've tried.  Nothing is working!
Just for completeness sake: Have you also tried to rebuild the previews for your most recent images? delete them and recreate them?
Have you tried to delete the Aperture preferences, as described in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics?
Can you sync your new images, when you create a new Aperture library and try to sync that?
Can you sync your new images, when you sync from a different user account? (This will erase most of the contents on your IOS device - do you have an older one, that you can sacrifice for the test?).

  • Finder Not copying all selected files!

Over the years i have never made a solid folder structure now reaping the issues of that with over 50,000 photos, movies, graphics, and things i have made. I now started trying to cut down and remove all the duplicates. One thing i have noticed is how bad the finder is at doing its job.
So i searched for all the pictures througout all hard drives, i let it run for over an hour and it apparently had stopped at 10,000, so i scro to the bottom and more start loading i sit there untill about 40,149 appears to be as far as it will go. over 75% of those found are from application manuals within the apps directories... This isnt a problem, the problem is when i go to select all of those pictures to try and put them into one folder on one drive instead of scattered throughout all my drives, it coppies less than what i was told was being copied!
Okay so here is a snap of the search and the selected items, and then what its reconizing as its copying.
and because that probably really hard to see i made this
So it says its going to copy 9,865 files.... but in reality it only copies 8,191 thats 1,674 files un accounted for!?! and to prove it here are the copy results!
Which is some how 1 more than what the copy screen said but still thats 1,675 files unaccounted for... How am i supposed to trust my finder now that i know its this flawed? I need help i am literally going insane trying to organize this and my Mac being incapapble of doing so without threatinging the loss of precious family memories....
