Aperture Preview Images Before Import

Hi,
I have a doubt as to wheter I missinterpreted or a function is in fact not enabled in Aperture altought it is mentioned in the description of Aperture features.
In this webpage https://www.apple.com/aperture/features/#import on the "Preview Images Before Import" area one can read "Double-click any image in the Import window to view it at a larger size. You can also play video and audio clips before importing them.". Thou when I try to preview (or Quick Look) an image or video in the Import window from my iPod touch by double-clicking nothing happens ?!? Did I missinterpret? Is this behaviour not valid for iOS (iPod's or iPhone's) devices for some reason?
Please help me understand as previewing a video is extremelly valuable for me to know what to name the file before importing.
Thank you.
André

I must say this seems to me like a slightly false (or at the least missleading) advertisement.
I understand that iOS can pose a different protocol, but then one should not use a sentence like "Double-click any image in the Import window ".

  • What is the best format to import images into iBA? How should I compress my images before importing? What is the best file format? PNG? Jpeg?

What is the best format to import images into iBA? How should I compress my images before importing? What is the best file format? PNG? Jpeg? I'm trying to figure out the best file format / compression for importing images into iBA. Also, does anyone know how iBA will compress the file? Are the assets attached (like a website) or flattened out? Does anyone know how iBA handles this? Many many thanks to anyone with insight into this.

  • Can you filter/search images before importing them?

Is there a way to filter images before importing them in Lightroom?
    Scenario
I work with an extensive image collection stored on a server. The images contain a full set of metadata, including keywords and more. When I work on a specific project, I import the images into a Lightroom collection. That way I can easily review, rate and add additional keywords to those best-of images.
The challenge is that the images I want to add are from numerous folders. Plus, I often only want to add some images from those folders (not the entire folder). This collection process can be very time consuming -- manually locating the images and checking/unchecking the ones I want and repeating the process for the different folders the images reside in.
The process could be greatly simplified (and a lot faster) if I could filter/search for images that contain key words or other metadata to find the full set of images I want to import.
The key is that I’m not using a workflow to simply import all images from a memory card or download folder. I’m working from a large collection of existing images and want to import a subset of those images.
    Thanks in advance.

No, you cannot filter or search images before importing them.
But immediatley after import the images are automatically displayed in <Previous Import>.
They will be displayed there until you import another set of images.
While displayed in <Previous Import> they can be searched and filtered.

  • How do you prepare still images before importing into FCP?

I'm working on a WWI documentary, so there are a lot of photos that need to be imported. Also each image needs to have movement set to them. The images are in a few different formats: JPEG, GIF, TIFF and PDF's. Their file sizes range from 28 KB - 102 MB. I thought of importing them into Photoshop, where I can resize and save as a PNG file. Then I thought I could open the images in Motion, put movement on the images and export each image as a quicktime file using compressor. My settings in FCP are as follows: AJA Kona LH: 525 29.97 Apple ProRes 422 (HQ). Frame size is 720x486. Does anyone know which is the best way to prepare images before importing them into FCP? Does anyone have a different workflow that works better?

Just make sure that they are bigger than 720x486 if you intend to be doing moves on them. an 28KB? As MASTER pics? Way too small...those will look like crud. But if you can make the images larger, about twice as large as your canvas, then you are fine.

  • All tracks have the same preview image after import

    Hi,
when importing some videos (h.264) into iMovie'08, all have the same preview image. I would expect them to hava an image from the clip.
    How to fix this?
    Arne

The files are on disk in my pictures folder. I took them with my Sony camera as mpeg2 and converted them with MPEG Streamclip to mpeg4 (h.264).
Just updated to iMovie 7.1, but did not change anything.
The icons are all of the 1st clip. Moving the mouse over them always show the 1st clip and the audio of the first clip in the thumbnail, but in the preview I see the correct clip.

  • Is there any way to get the height/width of an image before importing it in the indesign document.

    Hi All,
I need to obtain an image's attributes such as dimensions (height, width in pixels) without placing image in indesign document.
I have full path of the image (say abc.jpg is stored at c:\my pic\abc.jpg).
I have obtained the IDFile for this image, tried getting size using GetFileSize() which correctly return size in bytes.
Is there any way to get the height/width of image without importing it in the indesign document.
Please, give me some hints. I have spent quite a lot time digging in CHM. I have searched in FileUtils, IDFile API's but found no method which serves this purpose.
At this point I am clueless where to search next.
    Any help will be appriciated.
Just a point to mention, I am able to get image height and width for an image in indesign doc though Its not my requirement.
    Thnx,
    D.

You might be able to examine the contents of the PlaceGun after calling kImportAndLoadPlaceGunCmdBoss without actually placing the image in a document. Not sure, but would be worth looking at.
Otherwise you will probably have to write platform specific code, ideally with a generic platform-independant wrapper (see SDKSamples/paneltreeview/PlatformFileSystemIterator).
For the Mac, look at CGImageGetWidth() etc., not sure what the best option is for windows.
Perhaps Quicktime could provide you with a platform independant solution.

  • Size & scale images before import or let iBooks Author do it?

I'm importing images into iBooks Author and wondering if I should size them and compress them to roughly the size I need them on the page thus redicing their file size. Or go with the highest resolution and quality and just let iBooks Author compress and scale the pictures. Wonder also what gets the best result.
Is there any benefit to importing high resolution TIF or highest quality JPEGs???
    Any help, thoughs, tips appreciated.
    Moe

Open  the Help files and check the section dealing with Graphics.
Better, if you have an iTunes Connect ( if not  get one you will need it) account you should open it look for Deliver your Content, top right are a group of PDFs download them.
One is the Asset guide - which  give full info about  graphics. Including.. Tiff is not acceptable.
Maximum image file size is 3.2 megabyte. For iPad retina ( and  basically everything)  2048 x 1536  rsolution is of choice really, subject to the  file size and the books size max of 2 gig. Unless all your images are intended for full screen,  re-size to suit your layout.
iBA does not compress or scale anything.. thats your  job.. and if you get it wrong.. the  book will be rejected by the preview team until you sort it out.
Save yourself  work and  time, download and study the asset guide and the  help files.

  • Previewing Images before saving to database

I have an application where the user can browse and select an image that he wants to set as his profile pic. I need to display the selected image to the user and after confirmation save it to the database. I am able to save the image to database and retrieve it from database without any problems. But I have no clue as to how to display the selected image to the user for preview. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
After creating a simple Itemtype through Quickstart Wizard, if I try to save in to database I am getting the error stating
    1602: Could not save
    1400: Could not save to database. MODE=UPDATE EFFDATE=2002/07/24 18:53:16
1404: Please first load this entity or check protect and custom level of ACTIVITY 'WFSTD/AND'
Even, after loading sample workflow file(flat file format) and if I try to save them in to database I am getting the same error.
    More over,
If I load the existing samples(eq Requisition) from database, I can't see the processes, notifications, functions, etc in the navigator window. All these things were working fine before.
Please advise what may be the reason for this. I installed oracle9i database and workflow version 2.6.2 in win2000. Everything was working fine.
Expecting a quick answer as this is critical for my project.

  • How do you set the duration of images before importing into a timeline

Is there a way to do a batch import of images where once I place them into a video group I can set the duration of each image automatically by detereming the overall timelime lenght as opposed to manually setting the duration of each image?

I"m not sure you can do this with a video timeline.  If you create a frame animation sequence, you can select all the frames and set the duration, then convert it to a video timeline.  Not the best answer, but I think it will work.

  • No preview images from raw files during import any suggestions?

Lightroom will not display preview images during import of raw images. Any images in other formats display fine but with raw images I get a gray window the size of the preview image and the words "preview unavailable for this file". Adobe tech support has been no help they don't what is going on. Running Windows XP 64, Lightroom 3.3. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem when pluging the camera directly to PC. But if I use the card reader, everything is normal. Win7 64bit.

  • Auto-rotate images on import, AP 2.0

Since I upgraded to version 2.0 images are no longer auto-rotated on import and I can find no way of switching this function on. It worked fine with all previous versions. I am importing RAW files directly from my D200. Anyone else having this problem?
    Andy.

Same here. My KM 7D files used to rotate on import with v1.5.x, but not with v2. I hope this is just a temporary glitch because I REALLY liked that feature. Picking through 400 thumbnails to rotate the images before importing is a pain.
(Just a tip: Until Apple fixes this issue, it's best to rotate your photos while still in the import screen. Aperture hasn't yet begun to create previews or thumbnails for these images and it will save a little time if your computer can start creating these things with the correct orientation from the beginning.
If you wait until after you've imported the photos, Aperture has already begun processing and you'll have to fight for CPU time while you sort through the images looking for shots to rotate.)

  • Preview image for videos on flash website. Help!

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm at that right place so sorry if I'm wasting your time by asking this question but I'm having problems with my flash website.
I want the video on my website to show a preview image before the video is played instead of it displaying a blank black frame. I went on component inspector - preview - and selected the frame of the animation that I wanted to be shown. But when I came to uploading my swf and html file the preview image for the video is still black. On component inspector - preview - it says 'To generate a runtime preview image, use the export button and load the image back by writing your own actionscript'. So I exported the image but I haven't got a clue how to write my own actionscript. I've spent hours trying to find help on this but I haven't been successful.
Do you know how I can sort this out? Thank you

  • Can't preview images

Why do I get the message "can't preview image" after importing photos from my camera into LR 5?

Do you really mean "after importing"? In which case what happens if you take one of these images into the Develop module? Do you see it there?
Or do you mean you get this message during the import? In which case, what camera are you importing from, and what version of LR5 are you using? Also are you trying to import directly from the camera or are you using a card reader? If direct from camera, try a card raeder.

  • Aperture constantly rebuilds same thumbnails and preview images.

What is behind Aperture 2's pathological obsession with constantly rebuilding the same thumbnails and preview images, and is there any way to stop it? I can't link this performance killing problem to any specific action on my part; I see it in many different circumstances. For example:
    (1) Putting the system to sleep while Aperture is open then resuming later
    (2) Hiding the Aperture app, working on other memory consuming apps for a while (e.g. Photoshop), then returning to Aperture
    (3) Switching from one project to another via the "Projects" tab.
    (4) Quitting Aperture then restarting it.
I can say with 100% certainty that this is not the result of some previous thumbnailing/preview generation operation that was interrupted. The # of images in the project doesn't seem to have a bearing. Nor does the type of camera or image type I've imported from the camera.
I can be happily working in Aperture, working with a project created months ago, when all of a sudden the "generating thumbnails" message and the dreaded Wait Cursor appear and my speedy, well-apportioned iMac grinds to a total halt while Aperture does the same ** thing it's already completed before.
The only hit I get when searching Apple's support site mentions a known bug for those who upgraded from Aperture 1 to version 2 but definitely does not apply to me here.

Thank you for the reply Tony. I've followed your suggestion but Aperture continues to (apparently) randomly decide to regenerate thumbnails and previews.
The problem has become bad enough that I've had to stop using Aperture completely.
Doesn't anybody from Apple read these forums? I can't possibly be the only Aperture user in the world to experience this problem...

  • Downsized images when imported from Aperture

The latest batch if images I imported into iPhoto from Aperture were somehow downsized to half the size, ie from 3888x2592 to 1944x1296.  In other words, cut in half.  This has never happened before.  Previously, the iPhoto image had the same dimensions as the image in Aperture.  Would this have something to do with Lion?  I need images with over 3000 pixels on at least one side to sell them.  Thanks.  Larryt

How did you "import into iPhoto from Aperture"?
If you're using the media browser (File -> Show Aperture Library) then what you're getting are you Aperture Previews. The size of these is set in your Aperture Preferences.
If you exported from Aperture then the export preset you used in Aperture is what defines the size of the image.
So, no, this has nothing to do with Lion and only to do with the settings you are using in Aperture.
I can't help but wonder though, why you are using iPhoto at all, if you use Aperture. Is this complexity necessary?
