Aperture previews in screen saver!

OK, this is just great (and maybe I'm the only one who didn't know this, but....)
In Prefs->Screensaver, the Aperture library and projects show up, I think so long as there are previews in the project. Excellent, just excellent!
Mark

Brian,
As far as I know, those two lists come from the same place. I've always seen them both contain the same items. However, they do not look the same for some reason. Under Desktop, I have to open several disclosure triangles before I get to my Aperture photos, but with Screen Saver, they are already open at the top level.
That being said, first things first: have you tried the [Troubleshooting Basics|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805]?

anyone else having this problem? the screen savers work, and the test button works but no previews anymore.

Screen Saver previews are working fine on G4 and Intel Macs here albeit they seem a little slow. If you updated incrementally you might try running the Mac OS 10.4.9 Combo updater.

    Does anyone have a solution?
Environment: Mac OS X (10.7.2), Macbook Pro (late 2008)

So it turned out that the cause of the problem wasn't as complicated as I thought...
I had a few songs that were not added to the iTunes library, instead referenced from other locations on my hard drive.
Specifically, if you bring up the Get Info window of a song, under Summary > Where, it may show a different path than your usual iTunes Media folder location, set under Preferences.
    E.g. Where: ~/Desktop/downloaded_song.mp3
I guess, this happens when you drag a song into your iTunes instead of adding it to the library, and apparently, causes problems with the Artwork Screen Saver.
    Solution:
    To correct it,
For those songs, go to File > Add to Library...
Then find and select the song file.
That's all I had to do to get the screen saver working... All your songs have to be added to your iTunes Library.
I think my brother was messing around with my playlist... I hope Apple nails a better way to lock-unlock/secure OS X soon (proximity sensor, biometric 3D face recognition, unique voice recognition, soul recognition, etc.).
That malloc error message still shows up; that must be an unrelated issue with the screen saver.
I hope this helps out all those suffering through the same issue with their iTunes Artwork Screen Saver.

  • Screen Saver choices

I swear that once Yosemite was installed I had the choice of folders or events fro Screen Saver just like of desktop, but now I do not see that choice. Am I missing something?

So when this happens the Source setting in System Preferences->Screen Savers shows National Geographic  or does it still show your iPhoto library but shows the images from Nat Geo?
How often does this happen? What happens if under Source you set Nature Patterns, does  it switch or does it stay on that setting?   My guess is that for some reason the images from your library become unavailable and the system then switched to a default.
Try setting to Nature and post back the results.
    regards
    <edit>
Oddly I have seen something similar on my Apple TV. I use iCloud images for the screen saver but occasionally the Nat Geo images will show.. With The Apple TV it switches back by itself so I've never looked into this. Next time it happens I;ll have to look at it.
Just realized you can set iCloud as a choice with the Aperture library in Screen Saves but I don't see that in my iPhoto but then I don't use iPhoto. Is it possible you are using images from the cloud?

  • Photo Screen Saver not functioning with Yosemite Upgrade

Recently I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Yosemite. I have always used a folder in iPhoto for my screen saver via system preferences. Ever since the upgrade this folder will no longer function as the screen saver.  The screen saver option in System Preferences always defaults to Apples National Geographic photos that is installed with Yosemite. After I select the folder I want I "preview" the screen saver and my photos are there. Once the screen saver kicks itself in, the NG photos are there and the system settings are back to NG photos and not my photos. Now, I will admit the NG photos are far above my photos, but I really prefer my photos. Is Apple evaluating photo quality on the screen savers? Kidding - any ideas?
    Scott

    I have the same issue.
Try this. I think this has worked for me. Only time will tell.

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
    Look for these two files.
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each  one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
    Restart the computer.

  • Aperture Library in "Desktop & Screen Saver" now, but resolution off

My Aperture library now show up in Media Browser and Desktop & Screen Saver, but the resolution of images, particularly when selecting them for desktop backgrounds are too low. I'm not getting the full resolution images. Any idea what the deal is? Do I need to reprocess something?

    Bobio,
The pictures you see for selection in Desktop and Screen Saver from from the *Media Browser*. It is the same mechanism you use for sharing pictures with any application on your machine.
If Aperture photos are not available there, you probably have previews turned off. Look in the Aperture Preferences for that. However, previews are not automatically generated until you quit Aperture. I.e., Aperture does not spend time making your photos available for other applications when it knows you are using Aperture.
If neither of those ideas pans out, I would suggest following the [Troubleshooting Basics|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805].

  • Where is my Aperture Screen Saver gone?

    Hi there!
I am facing the following bizarre problem:
I had configured the screen saver on my MacBook Pro 15" to use pics from my aperture library.
Now this function has somhow disapeared! Suddenly I can only choose iPhoto not Aperture anymore
What happened and how can I bring Aperture back to my screen saver choices?
    Thanks in advance
    Thorge

There is a setting in Aperture Preferences/Previews called 'Share previews with iLife and iWork' if this is not checked then you won't see them in the screen saver either.

  • Aperture No Longer Working With Screen Saver?

For years I've been using my Aperture library (specifically, the "Flagged Photos") with the Screen Saver in OS X.  Since I upgraded to Lion last night, I have discovered that my Aperture library no longer shows up as an option in Screen Saver -- only iPhoto does.
As I am remiss to ditch years of work and return to iPhoto -- I was hoping someone might have discovered a solution for this problem (perhaps something to do with the iLife browser in Lion?).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Kluv32 wrote:
Then, I checked the new sharing preferences and closed out Aperture.  I opened up the System Preferences for Screen Saver, and after waiting about 1-2 minutes, Aperture popped up in there as an option.
Can you please explain what you mean about "checked the new sharing preferences?" I see no way of setting any "sharing" preferences in Preferences or anywhere else in Aperture. Do you mean you just looked at the sharing preferences?
Since I've upgraded to the latest version, when I go to the System Preferences, Aperture is very slow in showing up on the ScreenSaver settings under System Preferences and the virtual Library folders no longer show up (they show up under the Desktop window though). However, after closing Aperture, the screensaver would display "looking for pictures" and would not display the photos.
The latest upgrade definitely broke something, although it greatly improved Aperture's response time, as it was getting pretty sluggish before the upgrade.

  • Screen saver  : loading photos too long with aperture 3.3.2

    Hi,
I've upgraded to mountain lion today and I've discovered an issue.
Screen saver does not display my aperture library (though I can select the aperture library and see clearly the photos inside)
It says 'loading photos' with a black screen and nothing more happen.
When I select a folder with small amount of photos (less than 10 for exemple), it finally works.
But I like to have my whole library targeted for screen saver.
I add that it was perfectly working before the upgrade, and Aperture was already in 3.3.2 before mountain lion upgrade.
Lion screen saver was working perfectly with my all aperture library and now it's a disaster.
Moreover, the new slideshows added in the screensaver are worse than the one with Lion. I particularly appreciated the "Polaroid" pictures with the date below.
Now I cannot have it anymore..
    So I have two questions ;
    1) Is there a way to speed up the loading of photos for the slideshows of screen saver ? A cache file ?
    2) Can I get back the previous screen saver of Lion ("polaroid" pictures with date below)
thanks a lot for your help
    I'm a newbie in Mac

    Hi Earnie,
Yes indeed I do have different versions for some of them but each version bears a different Version Name. Though I guess the Master Name being unique, it might be causing the trouble... That should not matter anyway and hopefully will be solved in a next update.
Thanks for the tip. I will investigate further and check all my photos.
    Cheers

The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos.  However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled.  What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

  • No Aperture photos show up in Desktop & Screen Saver System Prefernences

For some time I have experienced an issue wherein no photos from my Aperature library appear in my Desktop & Screen Saver System Preferences on the Desktop tab. "Aperture" appears in the left-hand column list of photo sources, but clicking it produces no results on the right-hand side where the thumbnails are normally shown. Curiously, if I choose the Screen Saver tab on the same preference pane, the photos all show up and are accessible.
As another bit of background, I do sync a number of photos from Aperature to my iOS devices using iTunes and never have an issue. The full listing of albums/folders appears in iTunes properly every time.
I have tried the all of the iLife Sharing options within Aperature and they do not seem to have any effect on this issue. I've been sticking with Share on Exit, since my iOS devices have no problems with this setting.
Also, if I choose a photo from within Aperature to set as my desktop photo it does work, but again, when I open the System Preferences neither the thumbnail for the background being used nor any other photos show up.
Any advice on things I can try?

Have you tried switching libraries, then quitting Aperture, and checking Desktop & Screen Saver again? I'd be interested to see if your particular issue manifests in a different library.
