Aperture projects: some of my versions of Aperture display the

Some of my versions of Aperture display the # of files in each project at the right side of the column. Other Aperture versions do not display the # of files unless you hover over the file name.  Can I make Aperture display the number of files in a project to the right of the file name again?

Thank you so very very much for this reply. I have been to 1:1 @ our Apple store and they knew nothing about this question.  You have solved my problem and I sincerely appreciate your response.

I just opened an "old" project in a newer version of iPhoto and the pages in the book doubled in number with the seam in the middle of each page.  Suggestions?

    Start with Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If that doesn't help continue with:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Can Aperture display the in-camera ratings from the Canon 5D MkIII?

I think at one point, Aperture was able to display the in-camera ratings from the Canon 5D MkIII.  It will not longer do that, and I am wondering if anyone else has found a way to make it work.

  • New iTunes versions no longer display the artist named "+/-"

Ok, so I know the new iTunes versions have put non-alphabetic artists at the end of the list, which is insanely re tar ded. But that's not my problem right now.
With the new sorting algorithm, *one of my artists has actually disappeared!!!*
The band is called +/-. Pronounced "plus minus" but written with just the symbols and the slash.
    (Their website is at http://plusmin.us)
They no longer show up anywhere in my iTunes Browser list (View -> Show Browser). Not at the top, not at the bottom, nowhere.
If you turn on View -> Show Browser and search for +/- then in the Artist section (of the music browser) it says "All (0 Artists)" and in the Album section it says "All (7 Albums)" followed by the list of albums. So the music is still there, it just appears that the new iTunes database and search can't really process a band name that starts with anything non-alphanumeric. W T F ?
A seemingly related bug is that when I view the main iTunes library (all artists), and scroll down to where +/- should be at the end of the list, the albums by +/- are not listed together. They are scattered around with my un-tagged tracks and not grouped together, say, like all of my albums by U2. (I also have the same problem with the band named "!!!" in the main library list -- but at least they show up in the Browser list)
Whoever changed the iTunes sorting or database listing algorithm at Apple should fix this (and then be fired). I don't know how to submit this as a BUG to the iTunes team, but I thought maybe posting it here would help.
Does anyone else have any "missing" artists in their iTunes libraries now?
What is Apple thinking? How did this get past QA?
FYI, there was no problem with this before Apple totally changed how artists are listed in the last few updates to iTunes. Why change it if it's not broken?
    Ben

Immediately above your post, I explained how you might be able to fix this quickly and easily using Sort fields. You saw how to change multiple Sort fields at once, yes? Have you tried that?
I have a Regina Spektor track called * in my library, and it appears just fine. Just to check, I changed one of my Artist names to +/-, and it was sorted to the end of the library when I sorted by Artist, no problem. +/- also appeared at the bottom of the Artist Browser pane, as I'd expect. If your +/- tracks aren't showing up, perhaps there's another explanation? They're not checked as compilations, are they? Have you tried re-importing them?
If my copy of iTunes has no trouble handling non-alphanumeric fields, that suggests to me that there's something else causing the problem. Sometimes libraries do become corrupted. Providing more information may help.
(I just checked with "!!!" also; that works fine as well.)

  • Mousing over some UI elements doesn't always display the correct pointer

When I mouse over some elements in a UI, sometimes the mouse cursor isn't correct. For example, when typing this message, if I open up 'Launchpad' by using the gesture, my mouse cursor stays as the text cursor, not the mouse pointer arrow, as I would expect.
This is only one example.. i've noticed it happens in many other instances.

My problem seems to be solved.  My Norton Internet Protection software notified me that the Photoshop Auto Analyzer was using a lot of CPU and memory.  I shut off all Media Analysis in PSE-11, and I have not had any of the problems I mentioned in my posted question.
I am surprised that my PC chokes up and causes errors when Media Analysis is on.  Has anyone seen this before?

  • This latest version of iTunes displays the store search results in jibberish.

When I search for songs in the iTunes store with the latest version of iTunes the results are all garbeled up.   If you click on something the next page seems OK.   Any ideas on how to fix this?   Do I have to revert to an old version of iTunes?

Click the word Store at the top od the screen by View, File, etc

  • When I merge one project with another, Aperture for some strange reason, randomly scrambles the photos from the project being merged, instead of keeping them in the order they were shot. What can I do to fix this?

When I merge one project with another, Aperture 3 randomly scrambles the photos of the project being merged, instead of keeping them in the chronological order that I shot them in. What can I do to correct this?

The photos have just been dumped into a new home and need to be told how to be arranged.  Go to the top left of the browser view for the merged project and select the desired sort order from the drop-down and they'll all sort according to that setting.

  • Aperture 3.5 projects: Some are missing from Library listing

I use Aperture 3.5.1 with OS 10.9.2, and I have studied the various pages of Aperture manuals, and read quite a few Questions, and I think I understand the difference between projects and albums and between managed and referenced files. But I am puzzled about a few project locations.
To the left of the Aperture display window is a vertical pane about 2 inches wide, with tabs labeled "Library, Info, Adjustments."
In that left-hand pane of the window, under the tab “Library” is a heading “APERETURE LIBRARY-MASTER”  and under that is the icon of “Projects”. When I select this, the right hand portion of the full window shows thumbnails representing of all my projects. These are organized by year and for each year, by date. This is the organization that Aperture did when I imported the photos, mostly from cameras. Fine.
In that left hand pan, under  the Library tab, further down, there is a heading “PROJECTS”. It shows a list of folders and albums and projects.
I see that in this library there are folders marked 2011 and 2012. In each of those there are folders for the months. In 2012 these include   “May”, “Jun UK", "Jun US", “Jul" and others. When I select any of these the associated thumbnails are all visible in the main display window to the right.
In the 2012 > Jun UK folder are 5 projects, with dated names such as "Jun 06, 2012 Chicheley". The word “Chicheley” and “UK" I added, but the rest of the structure 2012 > Jun was created by Aperture when I imported the photos.
However, and here is what puzzles me. In the thumbnail display to the right, of several hundred projects, there are 15 contiguous projects, all from June 2012,  that are not listed in the library panel  of projects in the Library tab pane at the left.
I can look at the “info” tab and see what the “Project Path” is for any photo. To judge by the badges, All of my photos are managed, not referenced.  Indeed, I cannot find any photos in my Aperture library that are referenced.
The projects that show up in the Library listing at the left pane have Project paths that start with a year, for example
    2012 > Jun UK > Jun 06, 2012
The projects that do not show up in the Library listing have names such as
Jun UK Chicheley > Jun 05, 2012 Aston
At the top of the Library pane is a search box. It finds Jun 06 but not Jun 05.
I have looked inside the Aperture Library package and I see the organization there for the projects that show up in the library listing. But that is missing the days that are not in the listing — it is missing the projects that show up in the main window but not in the Library list..
Those thumbnailed of the missing projects are of photos that are not referenced, I have used the main menu at the top of the screen to check that.
I can edit all the photos, wherever they may be. No problem. But why do all the projects not show up in the library listing?  Where are they?
I have used EasyFind to search for a folder “Jun UK Chicheley”, allowing search in packages, but did not find it. Same problem with any of the other 15 projects that show up in PROJECTS  on the right, but not in the Library listing on the left.
I may have  imported the missing projects not from the camera but from a travel Aperture library, using the import library option.
Maybe I should select all of these photos and then do a “Consolidate”. I have read about this, in the Manual and in the Suppport questions,  but it is not clear whether that will do what I want. I see that Consolidate is something I can do for any of my photos, not just for those that are not shown in the library. So what happens with Consolidate of a photo that is already in the listing of projects? Should I choose “copy” or “move”? If I choose “move” then what happens to whatever collection these came from?
“Show in Project” and “Show in Finder” seem to be unavailable for all of my photos.
    I will appreciate help.

What you're seeing when you try to view the original file is the warning that iPhoto had broken the file path/link to the orignal file.  Try this: make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How can I attribute my edits before aperture to the raw files as versions?

    Hi,
I am in the middle of importing all my files (approx 100,000) into aperture. I have previously made edits of my best images and in some cases have several edits for one 'master' file. How can I attribute or link the edits to the master files? I have followed a simple nomenclature, where the camera raw file was say bfes1001.tif, I would name the files bfes1001e1.psd or bfes10001e1-small.jpg, bfes1001e1-epson7600.psd. So my question is really two parts, first is there a way to link my old edits to the master raw files, and secondly is there a way to import photoshop files without flattening them? I can't image throwing away all that time making masks etc. If there is no way to import a layered photoshop file then is there a way to make an association to the files if I leave them outside of Aperture (althought that seems to defeat a big part of Aperture)?
    Thanks,
    Eric

This is not a method suited to automation, but what you can do is:
    1) Import original RAW into Aperture.
    2) Edit in external editor - it creates a new version based on PSD or TIFF (you choose in options).
    3) Kill external editor, replace created TIFF file with your new "master" tiff (or PSD). To do this just open the Aperture Library package using "Show Package Contents" in finder, do the same for the Project package held within the library, and finding the new TIFF version of your file. You could either replace the TIFF file before you return to Aperture form the editor or replace all the TIFF files with Aperture closed. The name must be identical. If you have a TIFF or PSD not in RGB mode Aperture will not like you much and probably crash whenever you go to view the picture.
That seems the most space-efficient way to me and keeps Aperture understanding that your edited TIFFS are versions of a particular master.

I wonder how pro photographers use aperture?I shoot raw and my harddrive is alreay full.I'm not able to import new pictures. I don't know what to do. I created a vault. My plan was to create a vault(put all my master files into an external harddrive) and then delete all my projects in my mac pro's harddrive. Is it the correct way to do it ? What should I do if I have thousands of raw files ? How should my workflow be? Can I use an external HD and use aperture through the vault, without keeping the master files on my computer's hard drive?? Or should I shoot raw+jpeg and store raw files in an external backup harddrive and import only jpegs into my aperture library?

There's a bit to learn.  It will slowly make sense.
Aperture is an empty field.  You're given a tractor and a whole bunch of attachments. What you grow, how, and where, is entirely up to you.
Vaults are for back-up and only for back-up.  They have nothing to do with storing your working files.
When your Library outgrows your system drive (and for good performance, you should leave c. 20% of every drive empty), it's time to convert some of your image's Masters from Managed to Referenced.  ("Managed" and "Referenced" refer to Masters, not to Libraries.)
There are hundreds of posts in the forum, and several pages in the User Manual on using Masters.
Many people run Aperture with the Library on their system disk, and most (or all) of their images' Masters on external FW drives.  This is a good set-up.  Note that you will likely have to take steps to back-up the data on your external drives.
If you do the above, there should be no reason to delete any Projects.
The choice of RAW or RAW+JPEG or JPEG depends on the kind of work you are doing.  I capture RAW only -- but I don't do any commercial shoots.  Pros on deadlines report that the RAW+JPEG works well for them.  Capture JPEG if it saves you time.  IMHO, there is not a good reason to shoot JPEG to save space (space is cheap; time expensive).
Short-term solution: buy and use a FW800 external 1 TB drive, formatted "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", and using Aperture relocate the Masters of all images older than 30 days to that drive.  (Be sure to change your back-up strategy to include this new drive; you may need a second new drive.)
This general post of mine might help you understand more about Aperture.

How can I create a slideshow that depicts only a version of a photo rather than the original?   Since the original and new versions are saved together, the aperture slideshow often choices the original rather than the desired version to display.

There are two things we use the name "Slideshow" for in Aperture:  a Slideshow Album, used for making Slideshows, and the Slideshow that is made.  (Imho, it is a design mistake to not call the containers used to create Slideshows, Books, etc., "Albums".)
The Slideshow will use the Album Pick from any Stack.  A good way to use Aperture is to promote the Image you want to regularly use (such as, for example, a Version with adjustments) to the top of the Stack.  This makes it the Stack Pick, and will be the default Album Pick.  If you haven't done that, you can still change the Album Pick for any Stack in a Slideshow Album.  Expand your Stack(s), select the Image in each Stack that you want to be the Album Pick (and thus shown in the Slideshow), and "Stacks➞Set Album Pick".  (Note the keyboard shortcut; there is also a Toolbar icon for this.)  The change is immediate.  The Slideshow will always show the Album Pick (or, if there is not one, the Stack Pick) for every Stack in your Slideshow Album.

You can buy Aperture in the Mac App Store without key and cheaper than in discs

  • Discharges as a trial version of aperture, like the try before you buy?

discharges as a trial version of aperture, like the try before you buy?

Apple discontinued the formal trial; if there's a store nearby which sells Macs, it may be installed on a display model.

I merge projects in aperture, it works fine until aperture restarts.  After aperture restarts, the projects are no longer merged, and are back the way they were.  Can anyone suugest how to make the merge permanent?

I tried the first aid tasks but the issue is still there.  I have more info now though.  It's not a problem with merging.
The problem is that new projects are being generated everytime aperture starts (with the same name, ie 01, 02.... and 01 (1), 02 (1) .....)
When aperture start, it shows "importing".  When I click on importing, it goes into the activity box.  In the activity box, has many lines as below.  The added projcts are all empty.  It's annoying because i have many useless projects being generated.
