Aperture ratings on a new harddrive

1. I rated all my pictures in Aperture 2.
2. I backed up my aperture library. And all of my images. (I kept/saved the images in their existing location BTW versus importing into Aperture location)
3. My harddrive crashed.
4. I copied over my backup images and library.
5. And then I loaded Aperture 2 on to my replaced harddrive.
6. I don't see my images/projects in Aperture.
6. And when I re-import my images into Aperture, all of my ratings and keywords are gone.
HELP! I can't stand the thought of re-tagging thousands of images.
A) any recommendations on what I should do to find the information to pull-up my old ratings. I'm assuming I did something in my rebuild out of order that over-wrote my library data and hoping I can get it back with my backups if i do it in the right order.
B) a rock solid process that avoids the possibility of losing my metadata in the future.
Thanks!! I'll go back to crying & worrying now....

There are not enough details to walk you step by step what you have to do here but the very first step is to open the correct Aperture library.
It sounds like you were opening a brand new empty library not the one you restored.
Find the one you restored and either double click it or go to preferences and navigate to it in Aperture 2. You will then see your projects - you may have some additional steps depending on other factors.

  • Computer harddrive failed- getting contents from ipod onto new harddrive?

Itunes says that my ipod is synced with "another computer"- well, yes, it is synced with the hardrive that failed and no longer works.
But Itunes does not seem to give the option of transfering the ipods contents onto the new hardrive (and os).
I think I have 5 computers my purchased songs can be used on- I think I have used up 3 simply by reinstalling my OS over the last couple of years. But really, my songs are only on ONE computer. How do I delete the old accounts?
And how do I transfer the contents onto my new harddrive- not just purchased songs but my entire mp3 collection that is on my ipod.?
I did not back up my hardrive for about a year so I have about 100 songs that I never backed up- right now they exist only on my ipod.
    Thanx

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • New Harddrive for all fotos

    Hi,
I'm totaly lost, because I want to transfer all my fotos to a new bigger harddrive.
I have fotos in the Aperture Lib but also external stored in several folders. So I transfered all files to the new harddrive. Relocating the aperture lib was no problem. But the external stored fotos aren't correct connected.
If I try to reconnect them with aperture I fail, because the button for reconnect all (I don't know, if this ist the correct term for the english button, I'm using the german version!!) is always grey and not active. It is not possible to click on that button.
So, anybody an idea? Onother way of reconnecting? Wrong function in aperture?
    Thanx for any hint

    Hi,

Without a bootable backup/clone or a Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard installation or a saved copy of Lion's install app, you'll have to upgrade your Leopard volume to Snow Leopard (10.6.6+) so you can waste another hour or more DLing the Lion thing again.

  • Installed a new harddrive in my macbook pro. cannot connect to hp photosmart all in one printer!!

I, recently, installed a new hard drive on my MacBook Pro Laptop Computer (2007 model).
Now, I cannot print out anything on my HP Photosmart  C7180 All-In-One Printer! They don't
seem to be connected, as the printer icon shows up on my computer,  and then, immediately, evaporates
    into thin air.
How do I connect my HP Printer to my laptop, now that I have a new harddrive installed?

    Hello Lady22:
When you received your printer you should have received two insulation disks one is for Windows computers and the other one is for Mac ( Apple Computer) If you have the disks please install Mac disk.  Apple computers do search and down load the parcel software so you can do basic printing commands. You need to find the program that is some where in your computer that allows you to hook up Pinters and Devices. Ounce you find this open it up then connect the printer cable to the lap top. The computer program will list HP's printers yuo need to select your printers model number. Then it will down load the drivers for it to run basic commands. Ounce they are download run a test to make sure it is working right. Contact HP's store and asked them to send you a new set of insulation disk. Your old disk may have fine dust film on them. Clean them off pior to inserting them If you use glass cleaner and fine cloth make sure they are dry off before you insert them. If you used them before maybe a speck of dirt blocked out parcel program that caused it not to install correctly . frrw

  • How can I use Aperture 3 on my new iMac with Maverick?

How can I use Aperture 3 on my new iMac with Maverick?

Do you own a copy of Aperture, perhaps bought for another Mac?
If you have not bought Aperture, you need to buy it from the AppStore.
But if you own Aperture and have it bought from the AppStore on another Mac, sign into theAppStore on your new iMac with the same AppleID you used to buy Aperure on your other Mac.  Then look at the "Purchased" tab of he AppStore. It show Aperture, with the "Install" button to the right. Simply press the "Install" button and download it to your new iMac.  Or if you have bought Aperture on a CD/DVD, run the installer from the CD/DVD on your new mac and immediately run software update to upgrade the Aperture 3. version to version that will run with Mavericks.

  • How can I export aperture pictures to a new library?

How can I export aperture pictures to a new library? I wan to create a new aperture library at an exernal drive so that I can reduce the size of the current library in the internal drive. Thank you for letting me know.

"File➞Export➞ ... as new Library " will create a new Library from the selection.
The preferred method for making the Library on your system drive smaller is to change some of the Image's Originals from Managed (= stored inside the Library) to Referenced (= stored outside the Library, often on external drives).  There are so many advantages to this that it can be recommended without question.  Unless you have specific reasons for splitting your Library into two Libraries (security concerns are one of the very few reasons), you should keep your Library on your system drive with some Image's Originals Managed, and the rest Referenced to an external drive.
Read up about these options in the User Manual (scroll down).

  • Hi, I have a mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro and I keep getting a POSIX error when trying to format my new harddrive. Help?

Hi guys, one day I turned my MacBook Pro on and it was frozen at the login screen, so I did a hard shutdown and restarted it just to get a blank white screen that didn't change. So I took it to the apple store for a genius appointment and they diagnosed the problem as a failed hard drive. So I got a new hard drive and bought snow leopard installation disc since I didn't have my original installation anymore and installed the new harddrive. I go to disc utility to erase it and create a new partition on it so the Mac will recognize it as a viable option to install snow leopard on, and I get a POSIX error that says: "the operation could not be completed. Cannot allocate memory."
So I call Apple and I'm told that it could very possible be the hard drive cable which is failing me here and not allowing the connection to the HDD. So I ordered the appropriate one on Amazon for my make and model (can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004VSZCL4/ref=ya_aw_oh_pit)
A lot of the reviews say a new one of these cables fixed their problems with the POSIX error, so I'm wondering what you guys think of this? And if you have any other ideas that could help out?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Zach

    Zachy,
    It goes something like this...
Put your new drive in the enclosure. Use Disk Utility to format it, etc. I'd give it a slightly different name than the original. Let's say you have Old Disk and New Disk as your drive names. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy Old Disk to New Disk. Now you should have an exact copy, which you can test by rebooting and holding down the Option key. Choose New Disk from the list and let it boot, make sure all is well.
Shut down and physically swap the drives. Take Old Disk and put it in the enclosure. Now your system has a new disk with a lot more space and you can reformat your old disk and just use it for large files or whatever.

  • How do you install OS X on new harddrive????

I am considering upgrading my 250 GB harddrive to a 500 GB harddrive. This is the first time I'll be changing out a HD on a laptop. All my previous macs have been desktops and was easier to install a new internal HD.
I know that I should back up all my computer first. Done that through Time Machine. Can I just install the new harddrive and start up my mac? Or do I have to install my OS onto the new harddrive first before taking out the old one and inserting the new one?
If that is the case what are easy step by step instructions to do that. I would hate to put a new HD in and end up not getting my Macbook to start at all.
    Help please.

Great, that does help. I think I will do the same thing just reinstall the OS Leopard onto the new HD first then do the Migration Assistant. Thanks!
This didn't answer my question exactly but I think I found the solution. Browsing online I was discovered that I needed to buy an inexpensive enclosure for the new 500 internal HD so I can install OS X. Then from that just simple install it into my MacBook and I'll be up and running with a bigger HD. I was so happy I was able to find an enclosure and new Western Digital SATA Internal HD for under $100.00!
That's not actually an installation of OSX. That's a clone. It works very well. You can do the clone first, then boot externally (hold option while restarting) from the clone to make sure it's good to go. Then you can remove your original drive and install your new drive.
The thing is which software you use to do the clone. I personally use Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • New harddrive, opportunity for organization?

My old trusty Macbook has been crawling along for too long now, so I decided to rebuild it with a new battery, more RAM, and most pertinentily, a 500GB harddrive. Two other relevant variables: I have a music collection that I've been working on for decades in a disorganaized fashion, with some of it stored on my current (full) Macbook harddrive and some on a terabite external harddrive.
My questions for you amazing Mac savants:
-How do I get all my files from my current hardrive (including the operating system?) onto the new one as I swap them out? The only way I could imagine doing so is shuttling everything onto the external harddrive, and then back on to the new harddrive after it is installed..
-Since this virgin harddrive is as of yet uncluttered, I was thinking of using this transfer as an opportunity to consolodate all my music and cleanse it of duplicates. Is there away I could give a command to import all music files from the external harddrive straight into the itunes music folder on the new harddrive, but without importing any duplicates?
Thank you so much for your help! This is a puzzle far beyond my capabilities...
    With much appreciation,
    -Tommy

    Hi,

  • How do you move images in one aperture library to a new aperture library

how do you move images in one aperture library to a new aperture?

    Hello, Patricia,
Do you want to create a new Aperture Library with the images you select or to import them into another existing library?
To create a new library based on selected images use the main Aperture menu:
File -> Export -> Project (Folder, album) as New Library.
To import a part of an Aperture Library into another Library, export the Aperture items as new library, then import that library into the destination library. That way you will ensure, that all versions and metadata are exported.

  • Computer crashed, can't transfer old songs to new harddrive. Help?

My old Dell w/ Windows XP crashed and Dell sent me a new harddrive that I installed on my computer. All my songs are on my IPOD Nano (3rd Gen) and I want to transfer the music from my Nano to the computer with the new harddrive, but when I hook up the Nano to the computer I only see a faded image of the songs and I cannot download them to the computer or play them from my computer. How do I get the songs on the Nano onto my new harddrive? All the songs were either previously purchased through the I-Tunes store or downloaded off my old CD's, there were no other sources for my music.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't create Aperture vault on my new 1 Terrabyte Hard Disk

Just bought two new Maxtor 1 terrabyte harddisks to back-up my Aperture vault,
my Aperture Library is now about 450 Gb. When I'm making a new vault on the new hard-disk, wich takes several hours, my G5 will "colapse" after a few hours, the whole system is stuck and the only way to get out is too get the power of.
When I restart and look at the disk I see that about 250 GB has been transported, I tried this several times and it's always stuck at about the same point. Also when I'm dragging the Aperture-file to the new disk, the same thing happens.
When I do the same thing to a Maxtor 500 GB disk everything worls fine.
Does anybody have a clue ? Thanks in advance !
    With kind regards
    Albert Brunsting

It could be that the 1TB drive is heating up and shutting down after turning for several hours causing the system to lockup. Might try adding a cooling fan pointed at the external HD.
One alternative is to reduce the library size. Export projects from that large library into another empty one until both are about equal in size. Then back up each library individually onto the external HD.
