Aperture RAW profiles broken since 10.7.4 update

Since updating to OSX 10.7.4 last week it seems to have broken some of Apertures RAW profiles for some cameras.
My Nikon D700/D300 files are all fine but my RAW files for my Lumix GX1 are green!
I also get the message "This Photo was adjusted using an earlier version of Apple's RAW processing" and then it offers me the option to Reprocess.
This fixes the green issue but doing this file by file when you've imported over 100+ is a real pain. The RAW for the GX1 was supported and was working fine before updating to OSX 10.7.4
Any ideas whats going on?

See this support article: list: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
The support for the gx1 seems to have been moved directly into MacOS 10.7.4, and for Aperture this is a change of raw support.

  • Mail is broken since 10.8.2 update

I updated to v 10.8.2 two days ago, since then Mail has been broken.  I can see the sender, date, a snippet of message in the in box column but cannot read the message if I attempt to highlight it or click to expand it. It is completely blank, no sender, no date, no subject line. I can read the message if I opt to return the mail, however, mail shuts down "unexpectedly" after I type five characters, an error box comes up to advise the problem will be reported to Apple and gives me the option of reopening. Reopening only makes the ugly cycle begin again.
I have attempted turning off mail and restarting it, taking all accounts offline and then bringing them back up, shutting down computer completely and go through regular start up, using restart. I attempted to copy the the area of the error message to be of better assistance but it was gone before I could click copy. It says 'Terminating app due to uncaught exception' and 'could not find our own bundle'... "throwing an exception".
Seems to be having a fair sized hissy fit, any patch to fix this bug or do I just deal with the inconvinience until the next update and hope for the best?

Please ignore irrelevant responses to your question. Mail is at least as good as any other mail client for the Mac platform.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Asset Generator broken since recent update to Photoshop CC

With this latest update to Photoshop CC, the asset generator no longer seems to support having masks on a folder - asset will NOT generate if this is the case. Seems the only work-around is to clip everything down to a shape layer, which is highly awkward. Is this a bug? Can it please be fixed? This used to work just fine and has only been broken since the most recent update.

My team is having the same issue.  I'd love to hear about a fix to this.

  • Can I use the Pentax K20D raw profile for the Samsung GX-20?

    Hi,
I have just got a Samsung Gx-20 (clone of a Pentax K20d). When I import Raw images to aperture they are extremely flat and colourless. I can import the same raw images to Adobe Lightroom and get excellent results so I know the data that I want is in the raw file.
Since I was getting good results from the pentax k10d profile in aperture I'm sure aperture is capable, but doesn't know the camera.
Is there some kind of plist or somesuch that I can edit so that the system will process the raw files from my camera as though they came from a k20d, and therefore hopefully solve my problem.
I don't want to migrate to lightroom as it doesn't have the ilife integration I enjoy.
    Thanks in advance.

    there is an easier way:
    1. Go to the RAW Fine Tuning Brick in the Adjustments Inspector with one of the images from the K20D selected, and- remembering the original setting- change any setting.
    2. click on the cog/gear and choose save as preset and name it.
    3. Select one of the images from the gx20, click on the cog/gear again and choose the preset you just created.
    4. Now change back the setting you changed in step 1, click on the cog/gear again and choose "Save as Camera Default.
I swear, it took five times as long to type that as will to actually do it.

  • Camera Raw Profiles - Fuji Pro S5

Does anyone know if Camera Raw Profiles will be created for the Fuji Pro S5 in a future release?

Camera Raw has provided profiles for the Fuji S5 Pro since version 4.1. With CR 4.5 there are now 3 profiles to choose from: 4.1, 4.4, and Adobe Standard beta 1, which you can download from the Adobe Labs web site.

How can i get the raw profile of a Nikon D610, it's not included in the newest file 8.0.0.137 for phtoshop elements 12?

Since you already installed the 8.3 dng converter and only need the camera raw 8.3 plugin, you can download it from here and replace the existing camera raw 8.0 plugin
Replace the Camera Raw .8bi in

  • Aperture Raw & Jpeg import Problem

I'm on the current Aperture and face the following situation: I have a memory card containing photos shot partly as jpeg-only and partly as jpeg&raw.
No problem one should think since Aperture has the option to only import either raw or jpeg if there are more than one format per photo. Unfortunately, that is not working. If you select raw only, which I do for the raw&jpeg photos, Aperture does not import Photos which only have a jpeg-version at all.
This is not consistent with the options name and at all renders the whole import options useless in my case.
Am I missing something or is Aperture having an issue here?

I shot raw and jpeg since I was on a trip through the US and my Macbook broke so I had to use my iPad to upload the photos to my blog. Unfortunately the iPad software (iPhoto etc.) does not allow to change the resolution and with that the filesize of the photos. Uploading of hundreds of photos of more than 2 mb over public wifis on campgrounds etc is simply not possible, so I used the following workaround: Set raw+minimum jpeg size as file format and upload the small jpegs to the blog while keeping the raw on the memory card for later use.
That's why I shot both raw and jpeg and why I have photos shot as jpeg or raw only (before the laptop crash) and both raw and jpeg (after the crash) on the same memory card.
I'm Aperture user from the the very first version (when it was like hundreds of Euros), and I sadly cannot say that I'm surprised of the lack of support for non-standard workflows.
Well, so be it. Thank you for your help!

  • Camera Raw profile

I am wondering if I am supposed to see my camera model in addition to "Adobe Standard Profile" when I go to Camera Raw Profile list.  I have a Sony Alpha Nex-5 and only see the Adobe standard profile. Is that correct? I have the latest Camera Raw installed (6.3) with PSE9.
    Thanks for your help!

I think the Camera Raw profiles exist primarily for Nikon and Canon cameras.

  • Contact Sheets / Proofing and useful Aperture RAW Conversion

    All,
I wanted to appeal to all of you pro photographers out there to share about how you handle the proofing stage (contact sheets) with your clients. I'm curious about how you all make this process as efficient as possible.
Ok, say you have taken 1000 pictures for a wedding or some other event (forget the accuracy of that number, its just a round number for discussion sake). You need to present your photos to your client, but you need to present a subset of the 1000 photos for a few reasons:
    1) Not all photos you are going to take are going to be great. I've heard a general quote by some pro photographers that their "keeper ratios" (the percentage of pics that are really good from a shoot) run around 10%-20%. Fair enough, I don't want to debate this percentage, but it gives us a target number of 100 photos to present to a client from a 1000 picture shoot.
    2) Your client is probably not going to be happy if they have to sift through 1000 photos. I recently had a friend who paid several thousand dollars for a wedding photographer who sent them 1000 photos to choose from. They weren't particularly happy with this, and told the guy there was just too many to choose from. Personally, I felt that this was putting part of the photographer's responsibility on the client, but whatever.
Ok...so for the sake of the example here, we have to get 1000 photos down to 100 photos, so the client can choose what 50 (for example) they want to purchase and have printed, put in their photo book, slide presentation, etc.
Sorry for the long intro, but here is the issue at hand: we want to work quickly for the client, and get them their 100 photos as soon as possible. We also want to put our best foot forward, and give them high-quality photos. But at the same time, we want to work efficiently, and if possible not spend time doing final retouching on photos that the customer doesn't want, but rather focus this time directly on the photos the customer does want.
I have two questions from this which pertain to Aperture's RAW conversion and workflow:
    1) Do you do any significant adjustments on photos for the contact sheets you present to clients (the 100 photos now)? Is it just a quick exposure adjustment, or are you retouching all 100?
    2) Despite Aperture's RAW conversion problems and other adjustment glitches, is it sufficient quality in your opinion for a contact sheet?
My purpose in asking these questions is that perhaps the Aperture RAW conversion issue can be mitigated if we can get to the point of customer contact and review using Aperture-only conversion and adjustment tools, and then isolate photoshop use for only the final, significant edits. The problems with Aperture's RAW conversion are well-documented, but the question is, could it still be sufficient for small-scale proofs, understanding that for large-scale, high-res images, it won't be suffcient.
    Your opinons are valued!

    of finals:
Forgive me if I've forgotten the detail you may have posted elsewhere about this. I have seen you mention this several times, but I am really interested in the specifics behind the problems you have encountered. I have some needs in finishing that are beyond just regurgitating a photo. I'll be basically augmenting my photo with text, borders, special effects, etc. for more professional presentation, and the ability to market a photo in different ways. This is one reason I cannot discard Photoshop from my workflow. Anyway, let's assume for a moment I'm able to do all my editing in Photoshop, and those PSD files are sitting within Aperture. From there, what problems am I going to encounter? I'm tapping your brain here, as the time I have spent in Aperture has been primarily oriented toward everything prior to the finishing stage. "
    Hi Brad,
If I've imported images into Aperture that have previously been worked over in Photoshop, none of the layers I may have created in those files will be available to me from within Aperture. This does not break but severely sprains the functionality of Photoshop. I'm keeping the images around because I think I or my clients will need them later, so what might I do with them?:
    1) If I'd like to do more work on them I either have to abandon access to the previously created layers and their magic, or export the file from Aperture, work on it outside, import it back into Aperture. Every time I want to work with those layers I have to do the same dance.
    2) If I'd like to send jpg or tif versions of those files anywhere I can choose to use the tools within Aperture or Photoshop to do so. Aperture's tools for these conversions are simply not of professional utility: no compressed tifs, no layered tif support, no quality choices for jpgs and no jpg previews. And in either case, using Aperture or Photoshop, the conversions are created OUTSIDE of Aperture and not managed by it.
    3) When I decide to archive my older projects I'm faced with the incredible limitation that Aperture will not allow me any remote search of any archive that is not "live" within Aperture. Not even Spotlight will search Aperture libraries!!!!!
So moving already created projects into Aperture has absolutely no advantages and a number of problems, any one of which might be a deal-killer by itself.
If I'd like to use Aperture to manage work that I create going forward I've got those limitations already listed above, but I CAN access layers in PSD that are created from within Aperture. I cannot make layered duplicates of those files in order to work on versions of those images so once again the Photoshop workflow is hobbled.
All of this makes it a bad idea for my projects to make anything but a brief trip in and out of Aperture for sorting/proofing.

  • Rendering of Arabic/Transliteration broken since upgrade to 29

    Hello,
    Mozilla Firefox 29.0.0 - 29.0.1, MacOS X 10.9.2
Problem: Arabic fonts (Lateef, Sheherazade) as well as transliteration Arabic > Latin is broken since update to 29. They were fine before. This happens when loading pages from a database. The protocol uses 'mixed content' and there seems to have been an update in Firefox's handling of such content. However, even explicitly unblocking such content doesn't solve the problem (apparently, one has to deblock every single page or is there an option for an entire domain? Otherwise, this is a pain in the neck and completely impractical). Firefox 'chooses' to select encoding seemingly at random: View > Character Encoding > Unicode/Western. Unfortunately, this version of Firefox scratched the possibility to select default encoding.
Now, the pages loaded do not declare their encoding. However, this was not a problem because FF would use Unicode (UTF-8) by default. Setting instead "Default for Current Locale" is obviously useless. That's where the problem seems to be. Why was the plain default option changed so that we have no longer access to it? As you will understand in mixed environments (using a variety of languages and keyboard layouts), 'default locale' is pointless. Any suggestions are most welcome.

FredMcD. Thank you for the hints. I'm sure they help in most cases. It didn't solve my problem though. Normal websites work actually quite well, it's just the internal ones that have this problem.
cor-el. Thank you also for your hints. I checked and I'm pretty sure that it's not a corrupt font. The problem, as I've mentioned, is that the server does not declare its encoding. This wasn't a problem as long as UFT-8 could be declared as fall-back. Now, as I've written, there is only the option 'Default for Current Locale' which doesn't help. I suppose either Mozilla puts back the older option or we have to do something here. Would love to post link but I'm not sure there is general access to our servers (probably not) but I'll ask.
I attached an exampled of how the 'garbled' text looks. It's more than garbled there just no font 'resolution'.
Thank you both again for taking the time to give advice. I think your hints will come in useful in general use of Firefox.

  • Aperture srgb profile issues

    Hi!
I've a really bad issue with the Aperture sRGB export profile.
Tell me if there's a fix before I switch to Lightroom: when I export an image (working on a 16Bit TIFF) with strong red colors from Aperture to a .jpg file with sRGB profile, my "red" colors turn to a pale orange, messing up my whole balance. Meanwhile, if I do the same thing on , let say, DxO Optics Pro, or Photoshop, and I export THE SAME IMAGE with the SAME jpg quality and resolution, the REDS remain unaltered.
This thing happened with A LOT of my photos and now I did this export test with different software and the result has been shocking.
What's wrong with the sRGB Aperture export profile?!
Please help or let me know if it is bugged and I cannot rely on something with unpredictable or wrong results.
    Thanks

All sRGB profiles are generic. In fact, all ICC profiles are platform independent. What would be different between the two are the monitors themselves and/or the monitor profiles.

  • RAW profiles & processing

My RAWs look ugly. (Canon G3 & Lightroom Beta 2)
How can I select in Lightroom which camera I use?
(I only see a choice between two ACR profiles)
    Can Lightroom see this automatically?
Does it differ if I import from disc or from the camera itself, regarding to RAW profile recognition?
I want my shots to look exactly like the JPGs, because they have the colors I am used to. From this starting point, far less tweaking is needed.
I know a jpg is embedded in the RAW etc. etc.
RAW is not really an image bla-di-bla.
Don't tell me all that. Please read the post.
    No offence.
    Thanks,
    Geoff

However.....although I shoot almost entirely RAW, I tend to think that if there are no extreme lighting or color conditions that call for large adjustments, that the .jpegs produced in camera are not discernible from idealy processed versions from the RAW file. And I find that doing the RAW file conversion on your own with LR or any program requires some time and effort -- and considerable more time and effort until you get a system down. Frankly, I don't have a system "locked down" yet that consistently produces jpegs from the RAWs that are noticably better than the in-camera jpegs -- but I like the piece of mind from being able to make larger corrections if needed. Really, it's probably not a clear net benefit in time v. quality for me yet....but that's where I am.
Anyhoo, I'd recommend shooting RAW + jpeg and play around a bit to see for yourself.

  • BIG touble since recent MAC OS updates

    Dears,
since recent MAC OS update from November 2010 on my Mac Book Pro 4.1 with NVIDIA 8600M GT
I face really problems with unforeseen behavior of my machine i.e. like getting slow or even restart just.
I attach you a log file here showing the trouble I got.
My question now is that after zooming through some blogs I noticed that it seems many user with the above mentioned graphic adapter are facing same or similar problems since the past updates on Mac OS. So will Apple be able to recognize that and fix by providing an update or do we need to downgrade to an version earlier than 10.x.x ??

    I see.
In deed never had any problem prior to 10.6.5
No sweat to downgrade but then Im stucked with any updates in future.
And I am not expert enough on OS to judge if there really is not a problem with my graphic adapter..
I would say not cause machine work like a charm for weeks sometimes before anything happens to it... then opening safari or any other app may just causes a restart and then when looking the logfile it always looks like the one I posted here.
Bit weird as graphic card either works or works not huh ?
The only one else I got is a panic log but this is something with bluetooth I guess... got the wireless keyboard and trackpad connected and never faced trouble either in the past.
Well I would give tha machine to repair but q is if there is anything broken to be repaired and I am not sure of that...
here the ther log file if you may give it a look too...

  • MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013 thunderbolt port broken after 10.9.4 update

One of Thunderbolt Port (near USB port) was broken after 10.9.4 update.
I usually use mini Display Port to Display Port cable to connect my external screen, it works fine before 10.9.4 update. After 10.9.4 update, I tried to connect the external screen with the same cable, and the main screen of my MacBook Pro with Retina Display twinkling once so I'm sure the external screen was identified, but no video signal output.
I went to local Apple Premium Reseller (there is no Apple Store in Taiwan) and the they told me all of Thunderbolt Port was fine, they test with their own 10.9.2 copy and it seems ok. After that, I tried to re-install 10.9.4, downloading directly from Apple, the system re-install progress was complete but the Thunderbolt Port issue still there.
I connect to the broken Thunderbolt Port with Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter, and it works fine, so I believe the only problem is that there is no video signal output from the Thunderbolt Port (near USB port one).
    What should I do now?
Model: MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013

I can confirm that problem, too: Im' working with a Dell U2713HM display, connected via display port. Since 10.9.4 Update i'm experiencing random black screens and/or display going to energy saving mode. Today i've had this issue twice: Display going black and after disconnecting the macbook von all cables screen of the macbook remaining black. Holding Power Button for about 10 s restarts the macbook. After 5 minutes the same problem appeared again.

  • Random Pitch Function since 9.1.4 update

Since the 9.1.4 update, whenever I try applying the random pitch function in the piano editor - I get number values instead of notes values.
Clicking on one of the input fields changes it back to note values.
    Anyone else seeing this?

What a joke.  I followed your steps and it still doesn't work.  The most recent e-mail I have on my pre is from 5/11/10 at 2:50pm.  It is now 5:25pm on 5/13/10.  Eventually, it will start picking up more recent e-mails but it won't sync all of them that are missing during this time span.
I have talked to the IT department and the email server admin at length about this and they claim everything should be fine.  If the mail server didn't allow remote devices why would other phones get email and why would the Pre only get some emails?  Wouldn't it get ZERO emails?
Something since the 1.4 update has changed.  Email is broken.  Fix it rather than making me do all these sequenced steps to hopefully make it work.
