Aperture's "everything 24 hours from start" autosplit choice

Aperture import has the option "Automatically split projects" on import.
In Preferences->Import you have various options, including "One project per day".
If you set to one project per day, it will label the projects e.g. May 18, 2013; May 19, 2013 and so on.
Except it doesn't work.
Because what they have actually done is define "per day" as "24 hours from the first photo for a day".
So if your first photo is at 10am on May 18, the project May 18, 2013 will include all photos up to 10am on May 19.
This is not the usual definition of a day.
Apple should either change "one project per day" to mean every photo from a specific date (as read from camera metadata)
or at most, have two options: "one project per day" and "one project per 24 hour window".  (Although I can't imagine anyone finding 24 hour window to be a useful way to group photos.)
Currently the description is misleading and the behaviour is not as expected.
I have reported this in Aperture feedback with every single version they have released, but they have never changed it, although the sorting by date of projects has at least improved over time.  It is still very odd (it doesn't maintain the order by date after import or creation of a new dated project; you have to endlessly close Aperture, reopen and re-sort by date.)  It seems they expect you to group projects by name, not by date.  Date-based grouping is very poorly supported and clearly secondary for them.

If you look at the options for autosplit, you can see what they did:
Autosplit into Projects:
* Two-hour gaps
* Eight-hour gaps
* 24-hour gaps ... except they called this "One project per day" which isn't true either in terms of description or in terms of the date labels they apply to the projects it creates
This would be such a simple fix, it baffles me why they haven't changed it.
I assume (although I haven't tested it) that "One project per week" is actually "168-hour gaps", not actual Sunday to Saturday groupings.

You have 30 days from when you download it, but when you then start watching it you have 48 hours (24 if your account is US based) to finish watching it before it expires.

  • Aperture and colorchecker passport from X-rite

the colorchecker passport is a tool to make color corrections by camera profiles.
nice program to get my color workflow better accept i use aperture and.. that just doesn't work some how. even adobe's lightroom got a plugin for this beautiful thing but aperture doesn't give any options to use a camera profile. Unbelievable because this is so important if you're doing commercial photography.
I hope some one can help me with my issue because i dont want to leave aperture and work with lightroom...

Just one other comment about this kind of workflow in general.
While absolutely accurate color rendition and absolutely neutral WB can have their uses they are few and far between. Virtually every single commercial image ever viewed has nowhere near "accurate" color or WB. In fact the whole demo video itself is shot so freaking warm it's actually funny. Not only is the video shot warm but just about everything done, from the time of day it was shot to the use of gold reflectors is done to achieve warmth of color while the guy talks on and on and on about how the product helps you achieve accurate color - that's hilarious. Why would you ever go through the trouble to get the light and color so warm just to neutralize it out. His video shooter/processor/editor didn't think it was such a good idea to neutralize it - in fact the video guys actually cranked it up. Really funny stuff. Hmmm what happens when you shoot when the sun is really really warm and you use a gold reflector and a neutral WB target to adjust your WB? Answer = gold/warmth goes away - freaking brilliant. Hmmm maybe he should talk about how the video guys just set the WB to 5500 or even higher temp and captured all the wrong but warm color.

  • TS1702 Keynotes got hung up in updating and kept everything else from updating. I deleted it and now it doesn't show as an app I had purchased, so I can't try downloading it again. What's going on?

Keynotes got hungup in updating and kept everything else from downloading. I deleted Keynotes and everything else downloaded. Then I tried to relad Keynotes and it didn't show up as something I've purchased. What's going on?

    Hi Liz,
Sorry to hear you are having a similar problem.  Last night I went to the tool bar at the top of iphoto, clicked on "File",  then clicked "Browse Backups" in the drop down menu.    I have an external hard drive that is set up to Time Machine.   The Browse Backups  opened the iphoto pages in the Time Machine.  I selected a date one day ahead of the day I performed the now infamous update, and it showed my iphoto library as it had existed that day.   I then clicked  "Restore Library" at the bottom right corner of the Time Machine screen.   Roughly 2 hours later my iphoto was back to normal.   When I opened iphoto there was a message saying I need to upgrade my program to be compatible with the new version of iphoto(version 9.2.1).  I clicked "Upgrade" and within seconds it had done whatever upgrading it needed to do.
The only glitch in the restoration was that it restored the library as it appeared last week, so I no longer had photos I had imported this past weekend.   I simply went back to the Browse Backups in the drop down menu,  when Time Machine opened I selected the page showing my pictures from this weekend and again said to Restore Library.   Roughly 45 minutes later the library was restored including the most recent photos.
I am now a happy camper.
I don't know if any of this will be of help to you because your email says you are having trouble with photos imported after the upgrade was performed.   Have you had any pop up notices when you first open iphoto,  that tell you you need an upgrade to be compatible with the new iphoto?     If so have you clicked "upgrade"?
Good luck Liz,  if you have Time Machine running as a back up to your library, maybe you wil be able to get help there, by following my instructions above.   Otherwise,   good luck with your investigations.   I'd be interested in hearing how you make out.

  • Transfer of hours from CATS to HR

    Hi.
One of my customers has set up a transferral of hours from CATS to HR (IT2001 and IT2002) with help of trx CATA.
The process includes approval of hours via CATS_APPR_LITE which slows everything down considerable. In the time gap between recording of hours, and approval of hours, WBS-elements are closed. This causes error messages in program RCATSTAL (trx CATA).
Does any of you have any suggestions of how to make the process smoother?
I've been thinking of direct transfer to HR - either from CATS or from CATS_APPR_LITE. If the direct transfer is triggered from CATS, how can the hours then be approved?
    Thank you in advance!
    Odd

    Hi,
You can do one thing than. Use SAP standard task for approval process.
For more details refer the below links:-

    Thanks & Regards, Swapnil Mishra
    Hi again, Swapnil.
Thank you for your effort in helping me solve this. One way of speeding up the approval process would be to transfer given A/A codes without approval, and only have some A/A-codes through the apporval process.
As I can see from your refered links, hours HAS to be approved (status 30) before they can be transfered to HR.

  • Movie won't play from start to finish

I'm an idiot I know but I'm editing my first movie and can't find the answer to this in the online brochure. Here's the problem:
    1. I've assembled all of my clips in the video track.
    2. Have not inserted any transitions because I was having trouble with the "overlap" transition. "Add" button was grayed out.
    3. Whenever I try to play the movie to see how all the clips work with each other, the movie ends at the end of the first clip. I know I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what!!! Can anybody help me out there?
I'd buy you a beer if you were here!

    Carl and Sweet Polly,
You guys rock! That was it, I only had the first clip highlighted. When I highlighted everything the movie played from start to finish. Also, learned something new too. I couldn't get the overlay transitions to work so I rebooted, upgraded to os 10.4.11, upgraded Quicktime and now they work. Thanks for your quick response! I probably won't through my computer off the balcony for at least another day now! : > )

  • Won't start from Start up Disk- Dead iMac - help!!

    Hi,
My iMac at work died today, first it crashed and then the hard disk began to spin and then the fan cut in and it sounded like a jumbo taking off. I used the power switch to turn off, waited a minute turned it back on and it then hung at the blue screen. Did this again two or three times but it still hung, sometimes in different places but always after the apple screen and the spinning thing. I then loaded the system disk and started it up, it loaded the install software screen and then crashes. I started the machine in "Safe Mode", it started properly but then crashed as soon as I tried to anything. I even loaded the startup cd in safe mode but it did the same.
The machine is very basic first generation iMac, no bluetooth, 160gb hd, 17inch 1.6gig 256 meg ram. Using Panther fully updated using Software Update. Nothing special.
Apple Care just wanted £35.00 from me before they would even tell me if I could take it direct to my local Apple Store - I say local but it would be a 100 mile round trip so I thought it best to check first.
Help, I can't even start from start up disk!!!!

Hugo, I had the same thing happen twice. The first thing I did is run the hardware diagnostics to determine if the disk had totally crapped out. This test passed on both occurrences. I then tried to repair the disk by booting from the install disk (hold down the 'c' key while booting) and using the disk utility. The first time I had the problem this fixed it. Last night it happened for the second time, this time repairing the disk failed. I had to erase the disk, reinstall the OS and upgrades and load user files from backup. One tip, don't call AppleCare unless you really want to be annoyed. I had some useless tech explain to me how the hard drive was analogous to a library, the librarian goes home at night with all the books properly in place and some kids come in and move all the books around. When the librarian comes in the next day she cannot do anything because the location of the books do not match the locations identified in her book catalog. So I asked, who these 'kids' are that messed up my disk. He said this just happens. Well this has just happened to this computer twice in a month and its old 9 months old. I have 3 PCs running that have never had this problem, one is 8 years old. One more thing AppleCare categorizes this problem as a software issue, not hardware, so it is not covered, even though it's Apple's software that failed ! You either have to fix it yourself or pay someone to do it for you. Sorry for the digression (as you can tell I'm a little frustrated with Apple), when I was just about done loading user files from backup, the iMac died, will not power backup, nothing, just dead. This is after I just spent 4 hours erasing the disk and reinstalling software and files. Guess I do have a hardware problem now.
    Good luck

  • Aperture stripping 8 pixels from Canon Digital Rebel CRW files?

    hi,
I just wanted to see if anyone else was having the issue I am. I'm using Aperture with CRW files from a Digital Rebel, which are 3072x2048 in resolution. However, upon import into Aperture, images are listed as 3072x2040 in resolution. Exporting JPGs confirms that the images are only 2040 pixels in height. Converting the same RAW files in Photoshop results in images that are 2048 pixels in height.
What happened to those 8 pixels? It is kind of a pain because the 3072x2040 files are now not exactly a 3:2 aspect ratio...

yeah, I recognize that it's a very small "loss" of information, but it's just a little bit annoying because of the loss of the 3:2 aspect ratio. I just sent some of the 2040 images out for printing so hopefully there won't be an issue there.
I noticed that the crop tool, when you tell it to use a 3:2 aspect ratio, will generate crops that aren't exactly 3:2 pixel-wise. Again, it's very close, but I just feel like there's no reason why it shouldn't be exact.
Thanks for everyone's help! I guess I should start thinking about this as more of a "feature" than anything else...

  • HT1657 How long does the rented movie have to play before the 24 hour limit starts?

I hit play on my rental before I was ready to watch. How far into the movie before the 24 hour limit starts?

As far as I know the clock starts immediately you start playing it. You should be able to see how long you have left - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1415 :
On your device, the time remaining for you to finish watching the movie appears near the movie title.
I assume that you are in the US ? In other countries you have 48 hours from when you start watching it, not 24
