Aperture sample library?

I downloaded Aperture 3 from the App store and the sample library did not come with the download, where can I get the sample library?

The sample library only has been available with the boxed version of Aperture sold from the Apple Store; that version is no longer available; but with the App Store version you got yourself the much better bargain, far less expensive and a less restrictive licence agreement.
You can easily use your own images to do the Tutorials.

  • I purchased Aperture 3 about a year ago. I hardly use it because it is so slow.  If I uninstall the sample library, will that help the processing speed to edit pictures?  If so, how do I uninstall just the sample library?

I purchased Aperture 3 about a year ago.  I hardly use it because it's processing speed is so slow when editing pictures.  Can I uninstall the sample library to increase the processing ability of the program? If so, how do I do that?  I need simple instructions because I am not a professional at knowing how to do this.
Thank you.  Any help will be appreciated.  The following is information on my IMac:

Aperture is a hardware hog. Unfortunately your iMac  has a weak processing unit and relatively weak graphics, both of which are important for Aperture performance. Your iMac will never run Aperture particularly well; it may or may not be adequate for your needs.
I ran Aperture with weak hardware (2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo 2006 Macbook Pro, 3 GB RAM) for years. It was tolerable because I also used a Mac Pro for heavy editing work. With weak hardware we need to optimize everywhere we can. I suggest:
    • Do not bother running Aperture until you add RAM.
    • Before each Aperture session restart the Mac to clear possible memory leaks, and run only Aperture by itself unless you have 6 GB or more RAM on board.
    • Drives slow as they fill so verify that all hard drives are no more than approximately 70% full as a guideline. Even less full is better.
    • Keep the Library size reasonable by using a referenced-Masters workflow with Masters on external drives. Back up originals before import into Aperture or any other images app.
    Good luck!

  • Aperture 3 Sample Library

    Hi,
The Aperture 3 DVD includes a sample library and also a "Wyoming" folder.
Because I have installed an Aperture 3 trial version three days ago and entered the serial number into it, I don't have the DVD and the sample library.
Do you know how can I get the sample library? I really want it to use it with the "Exploring Aperture" PDF and for testing.
    Thanks.
(sorry if my english is not perfect!)

I, too, was frustrated by having the "Getting to know Aperture" PDF (not the exact name) and not having access to the sample library. I was using Lr3b at the time. What I did was
    - import all new shots to both Lr3b and Ap3
    - process everything in Lr3b, and as time allowed, tried to do the same in Ap3 (and slowly learned how it worked)
I did read the PDF I mentioned above, and I did go through almost every one of the short lessons using my own photos. It was a good introduction to the interface and the processes involved.
When I was done testing -- long before my 30-day Ap3 trial expired -- I purchased Ap3. I am still in the process of moving my photos to Ap3. I now do all my processing in Ap3.
Again, it is frustrating to have to buy the product to access the sample library (I loaded it from CD and never used it), but it is +in no way+ an impediment to learning and/or testing Ap3.

  • Missing Metadata Presets when importing sample library following book

ISSUE: NO METADATA PRESETS available during import. (Aperture 3)
    DESCRIPTION:
I have just installed Aperture 3. I am following the Aperture 3 book. When importing the sample Wyoming pictures into the Sample Library , I am directed to choose "basic info" as my metadata preset. I am not able to select "basic info" as a metadata preset. The drop down arrow only yields "none" and "edit". Edit is all grayed out.
I then tried it in the Main/real Aperture 3 library. I tried to import a few pictures from a a hard drive. Same issue. NO METADATA PRESETS AVAILABLE FOR IMPORTING INTO APERTURE 3.
    Thank youl

Here is the answer for anyone who may hae same problem:
Delete the following files from Application (Aperture) /Support :
    1: import Presets.plist
    2:MetadataSets.plist
    3:Metadata Presets.plist.
Removing these has restored the basic metadata presets.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks

  • Finding the Sample Library File and the Wyoming Folder

I had a 30 day trial and purchased the activation code (not the DVD). The "Exploring Aperture" tutorial mentions getting the Sample Library File and Wyoming Folder from the installation disk. Since I don't have an installation disk, does anyone know where I can get the Sample Library File and Wyoming Folder?

  • I have an external hard drive set up as a Time Machine backup on my IMac. I want to add a second external hard drive and put my Aperture Photo Library on it. Is there a way to have the photos on this second hard drive automatically back up to the Time Mac

I have an IMac with an external hard drive set up as  a Time Machine for automatic backups. I want to add a second external hard drive and load my Aperture Photo Library on to it so that the library can be shared by both me and my wife. Is there a way to automatically backup the photo library that will be on the second hard drive to the Time Machine hard drive?

Open System Preference > Time Machine
    Click Options....
Ckick on external disk in list and hit the - button below the list to remove from the Exclusion list

  • Can't access Aperture 2 library from Motion 3

I can't seem to access my Aperture 2 library from Motion 3, am I missing something?
    Many thanks
    Mark

OK - answered by own question!
The v3 trial becomes the default. You need to right click 'open with' and use v2 on the original library.
I also note that you can buy the unlock code from the trial - not something that is mentioned on the Apple Store. Now I have to wait for the blessed box to turn up!!

  • I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.

I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.
I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive.  I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space.  Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb.  Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
-select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
-move aperture library to live on external drive
-import iphoto library into aperture library
    -eliminate dups but maintain organization
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
    -live happily ever after
Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!!

If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.
-move aperture library to live on external drive
Managed or Referenced Library? Managed -
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit Aperture
    2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Referenced -  relocate your Masters first.
These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.
-import iphoto library into aperture library
FIle -> Import -> iPhoto Library? Have you done this already? If so are you trying to move the Masters to Aperture from an  iPhoto Library? Or Consolidate them?
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
You can't. Every photo is in a Project.  They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app  you've purchased.
The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto/ APerture:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics. This is what you use to attach your shot to your GMail
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto/ Aperture.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto/ Aperture not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

  • Error opening the database for the library "~/Pictures/Aperture Trial Library.aplibrary" error message

When starting up Aperature 3 I get the following Error Message :
"There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Trial Library.aplibrary”.
I can't di a thing except Quit. I have restored from Time Machine and reloaded the Software from Disk. Still get the same message. Any suggestions Are appreciated.
    Jim

    Hello Jim,
I assume you trial Aperture Library is in your "Pictures" folder? Try to rename it to something like "OldApertureTrialLibrary.aplibrary", to force Aperture to create a new Application Library.
To rename the old Trial Library, select it in the Finder and enter Command(⌘)-I (short for File-> Get Info). Click on the file name text field and enter a new name.
Possibly you get this error message message, because there is some permissions problem. If you are not allowed to rename the file, click on the padlock in the lower right corner, authentificate as admin and give yourself read/write access to the trial library (in the "Sharing & Permissions" brick of the "Get Info" panel).
Post back, if your "ApertureTrialLibrary.aplibrary" contains valuable images that you would like to save or if this does not work and you need further advice.
    Regards

  • Aperture 3 won't recognize Aperture 2 library after HD crash.

I have a MacBookPro 17 inch, purchased last year. My HD was showing some signs of slowing down, so I attempted to install Snow Leopard to see if that would speed things up. My computer crashed on installation (maybe dead RAM or HD?). I had already backed my Aperture 2 library from my MacBook Pro onto a portable Hard Drive.
I also have a Quad Core Intel MacPro with Snow Leopard and Aperture 3 installed. When I tried to recover my Aperture 2 library from the portable HD, Aperture 3 doesn't recognize it. I have tried to change the library from over to the Aperture 2 library multiple times and it isn't even reading that there is an Aperture Library present.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. One thought that I had was to remove Aperture 3, Install Aperture 2 and see if I can recover my Aperture 2 Library. I would then re-install Aperture 3. However, this seems like a lot of work for something that should be relatively easy (i.e. Aperture 3 should read an Aperture 2 library).
    Thanks!

  • When exporting images from iPhoto library to Aperture 3 library the highlights go red and the shadow area goes blue.  This happen to all images in the Aperture 3 library, why?

For some reason all the images in Aperture 3 library have had their highlights go red and the shadow area goes blue.  I can correct them one at a time with contrast control.  This just happen on its on after I uploaded MOuntain Lion.  Now when I go to transfer images from iPhoto this happens.  The images are all right in iPhoto but this is not the case with Apeerture.  I have 15,000 images in Aperture 3 and I can't afford the time to correct them one at a time.  What is it that I did to cause this problem?

You have "Highlight Hot and Cold Areas" turned on.
Toggle this on/off from the View menu.
Thresholds are set at "Aperture➞Preferences➞Advanced".  (I have mine set to 100% ~ it's not clear what the scale is.)

  • Aperture 3 failing to update your Aperture 2 library?  Please read!

    Hello all,
This is for those who are not running the trial version - the trial version CANNOT upgrade an existing library.
Like many others here I ran into a snag when upgrading my Aperture 2 library with Aperture 3. I kept getting "Warning: Update Failed" box immediately after choosing to upgrade the library for the new features in A3 (I tried with the box checked and unchecked). I rebuilt and did a permissions fix using A2 (holding down Option + Command while launching A2) but still no avail. I checked the library file itself to see if I (username for my OS X account) had read & write privileges - I did. I even tried to re-install A3 to see if that would fix anything - it didn't.
I keep my library on an external hard drive in a folder called "pictures". Within this folder are both my Aperture and iPhoto libraries. I then thought to check to see if I (username for my OS X account) had read & write privileges for the "pictures" folder and was partially relieved to see that I didn't. I changed that and A3 started the update/upgrading procedures.
So, if anyone else out there is experiencing this same problem check to make sure you have read & write privileges along the entire path to your Aperture library.
Please note, me not having these privileges on my "pictures" folder did not affect A2 in any way (I could launch my library without any issues), just A3.
    Cheers.

Quit Aperture and double-click the library you want upgraded. Aperture will open and upgrade it. Once you've upgraded it you can import it into your other library.

  • Cleaning up Aperture 3 library

Hello does anybody know of a definitive article on how to clean up Aperture (3) library.
I move a lot of photos around my library and do other organisational tasks which seems to make the aliases and metadata go crazy. it now takes a lot more time for Aperture to process a simple move of 100 photos on my new macbook pro running Aperture 3 than it did on my powerbook g4 running Aperture last year. is this progress (surely the point of an image library is to organise it?).

Is there anyone out there who can help me?
