Aperture settings

In QT Pro I can select different aperture settings. They are a little confusing to me, but I big question is:
Does this setting only effect playback in Quicktime or does it have further implications.

how do I duplicat Aperture Settings on a Second Mac
Do you mean your export presets, etc? Or also your setting in the Peference window?
Your export presets and other presets are stored in your user library, in the folder
~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/
Look for the files and folders:
Adjustment Chain Presets.plist
Import Presets.plist
Adjustment Preset Brushing
MetadataSets.plist
Book Themes
Plug-Ins
Command Sets
PrintPresets.plist
Export Presets.plist
Raw Decode Presets.plist
FileFolderPresets.plist
Web Export Presets.plist
FileNamingPresets.plist
Copy these files to the corresponding folder on your new mac, then restart the system.
The preferences you set from the Preferences panel are stored in the "Preferences" folder in the user library, but it would be easier to use the Preferences panel to recreate them.
You user library may still be hidden, as is the default in Mavericks: To open your hidden user library:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house)  in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture

  • Best in-Aperture settings for iPad

    Hi,
Does anyone know what is the best in-Aperture settings for optimum iPad photo quality ? (Maybe able to do a 2x zoom without pixelating)
Currently my previews are set to *"Fit within 2560x2560"* and Quality is set to *"10 High"*
However, in this settings, i realized that iTunes automatically "OPTIMIZES" the pictures.
Therefore, has anyone found the perfect settings ?
    Regards
    Nycky

Doesn't matter, iTunes will still Optimise them. The process doesn't just resize them it also converts them to the format used on the iPad.

  • AGP aperture settings? (MS-6390)

So I've got one more question to ask. I'm getting a geforce 6800 and every now and then on a forum I see someone having problems with their AGP aperture settings.
Is there any way to change this setting on a MS-6390? I'm clueless.
    Thanks for the help!

I read your manual, and nothing is mentioned about how to change Aperture; the amount of memory allocated for big images. I did read it has AGP speed of 66 MHz, which would be AGP 2X, right.(?) So buying that 6800 would be an awful waste of good money.
For 400$ you get a new mobo, a new processor, a new hdd, a AGP card (not so hefty), and some RAM (maybe). I'd go for that, instead.

  • Agp Aperture Settings

Has anyone spent time changing the agp aperture settings?? I hear that you should set it to around half of your available ram. The settings only go up to 256mb on the mainboard that I have. I currently have 1.5gb of pc3200 ddr400 ram. Half of this would be more than the mb allows to change to. Has anyone experienced any benefits from changing this setting? And what were they?? My setup came configured at a setting of 128mb. Would it benefit me to go to the 256mb setting?

  • Can I set by default some Aperture settings?

When I select Edge Sharpen it always appears by default the settings 50-33-66
I have two presets, one of them, the most I use I would like, if it were possible, to set it as default, so that when I open Edge Sharpen appear.
    Is it possible?
    Regards

First, an explanation about my name:
this is the mail I have received with the notification that I had an answer is this post:
    guillermaolvares (what a name!)...
it is not possible to automatically apply your setting to every photo you load into aperture, however instead of clicking on the "enable" button of "edge sharpen" (which enables the adjustment with the defaults), you can select your preset straight away (clicking on the gear icon). this will enable the adjustment with your settings, and you saved 1 click.
My name is Guillermo Álvarez (William Alvarez) and when I registered I decided to write all together: "guillermoalvarez"
Done it that I only want to thanks the answer.

  • Camera settings vs. Aperture settings

I have noticed that Aperture reads my RAW files just fine but shows me a file with settings that are different from my camera settings. An example would be my Kelvin temperature. My camera can be set to 6700K and Aperture will show it as 5955K. How do I get Aperture to use my camera's settings?
    Thanks,
    Jeffrey

    You can't, really.
I believe, though, that these numbers are somewhat up to interpretation as far as what the color temperature actually is. You will not get an exact temperature match, at least not right now, with Aperture.
Best results are typically to shoot a grey card or similar in a frame and use that to color balance your photos in post-processing. I tried using an ExpoDisc, both to set in camera and as a reference frame for later correction in Aperture -- and got results that were pretty much identical in the end.

  • Compressor 3.5.3 won't turn off Aperture settings

For some reason, even if I un-check the "Add clean aperture information" check box, Compressor still persists to encode 720x486 files as 655x486 upon output.
    Anyone know why?
Is there anyway to disable the Aperture functions outright?
I can cmd J the output files and turn Aperture off there, but that tedious when I need to make multiple files for multiple clients on a daily basis.
    Thanks!

I love the way some people write posts like this. It's a shame my telepathy sensors are not working properly... oh well!

  • Aperture 3.0 referenced masters of 16K photos/104GB on external HD. In library, previews are 21GB & thumbnails 13GB. Best way to make those smaller?

The more I read in the community, the more confused I get.  I've got my masters backup'd to another HD & the cloud.  Was going to backup the library expecting it to be pretty small and saw preview & thumbnail folders are relatively large.  Have read a good way to do it is move both folders somewhere else (as a backup) then restart Aperture to rebuild. I've also read that they sometimes come back distorted.  I know the gurus on here hate when you tinker inside the library.  I've deleted a lot of pictures using file > delete original image and all versions to get them out of the masters, but I don't think they leave the previews or thumbnails.  What is the best way to clean it up and/or reduce the size?  Thanks in advance.

You can't shrink the thumbnails.  But for the previews, you can reduce the size, and you can reduce the quality (both are options in Aperture settings).  Then select all your photos and rebuild the thumbnails.  You can probably knock 2/3 of the size out by reducing quality to 8 or so, and limiting the preview size to your screen size.

  • Problem syncing photos to iPad from Aperture with a merged iPhoto/Aperture library

I recently 'upgraded' to us Aperture instead of iPhoto. One of the features of this was that I could continue to use the old iPhoto library in Aperture, and it automatically configures to Aperture settings - and it works great in Aperture.
The problem is that when I come to sync photos to my ipad, I have the drop down options for iPhoto and Aperture. The Aperture option shows zero photos, and the iPhoto option shows all the complete list of all my photo event/projects (from both my iPhoto days, and the more recent stuff in Aperture); but anything that I have created since moving to Aperture is greyed out and not accessible.
Any clues as to how I can sync the new photos as well as the old ones?
    Thanks

Have you enabled the sharing and creation of previews in Aperture? That is one big difference between Aperture and iPhoto - in iPhoto it is impossible to disable previews, but in Aperture you can create previews selectively, see: Working with Preview Images
Check Aperture's Preferences > Previews settings for "New Projects automatically create Previews".
Then select the images with missing previews in Aperture in the Browser and use the command "Photos > Update previews".
If that is not the problem, the iPod Photo Cache or the Aperture library may need repairing or rebuilding, see these documents on how to repair the Aperture Library:
Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder
First try, if a simple repair of the Aperture library will suffice, then delete the iPod photo cache folder. Make sure, that the backup of your Aperture library is current, before try any of this.

  • Aperture 3 not shown in desktop wallpapers

The Aperture entries discontinued to show in the preferences setting of the desktop wallpaper. All I see is this:
I do have two Aperture Libraries on my Mac. Under snow Leopard I could see Aperture and could chose an image from there.
I did several things: Repaired the Library (permissions), renamed the folloing plist:
    mv ./com.apple.iApps.plist ./com.apple.iApps.plist.TLU
Turned on an off the "generate preview image" in the Aperture settings
... but nothing helped. What did I miss? I know that I am not the only one having this problem.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi Odsel -- welcome to the user-to-user Aperture forum.
We're going to need more information to understand, let alone help you solve, your problem.
    OS and Aperture version.
Where you see the problem (Import dialog? Which import dialog (there are a few)? After import? In which view?)
Do you see the same thing every time?
Does reformatting your card in your camera change anything? (Standard best practice is to reformat your cards in the camera in which they will be used after you have confirmed the upload and made a back-up.)
Are you following the suggested method of making "one shoot = one Project"?
If you are new to Aperture, please review the first seven chapters of the [Users Manual|http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual> -- they provide an invaluable map for you to use as you learn how to use this huge program.

  • Photostream and Aperture

    Hi,
I have an iPhone and therefore want to use Photostream with Aperture. So I went to the Aperture settings and have all selected under the Photostream tag (not sure if the terms are correct, I'm not using an english system). When I take photos with my iPhone, the next time I have WiFi it will upload them to the iCloud. The next time I will open Aperture on my MacBook, it creates a project called Dec 2011 Photostream for example. I also see the photos in the media section (I'm quite sure this is not the correct name... What I mean is the section where you have also the faces and places folder.).
My question here: Will the Dec 2011 Photostream project be deleted after the 30 days or are all the photos in that project fully locally saved on my MacBook? Because I now miss some of the photostream pictures taken in August and September. And I realized I am not quite sure how to import photostream images so that they are not deleted after 30 days (well I thought I know...).
So, to summarize: I'm missing some photos taken with my iPhone, dragged from the Month 2011 Photostream project into another project or renamed that project. So the question arises, what did I make wrong?
I hope my problem is reasonably clear! Thanks for advice!

    Hello DaPhil,
Is your profile up to date? I assume you are running OS 10.7.x Lion, if you are using Photo Stream and iCloud. And what is your Aperture version?
To import your iPhone images from the Photo Stream your settings should be set like above: "Enable Photo Stream" and "Automatic Import". This will create the monthly projects you observerved and it should keep these projects with all the images that were imported, even when after one month and even, after the Photo Stream reaches the "1000 images"  limit. So I think, you have done everything right.
However,  there have been some reports on missing Photo Stream images in this forum and in the "iCloud on my Mac" forum recently, so I would not rely entirely on the Photo Stream right now. I strongly recommend to back up all images imported from iCloud that you want to keep, to a folder outside Aperture to be on the save side, at least until we know for certain if Photo Stream is working reliably.
    Regards

  • My images look to be edited perfectly in aperture 2, but.....

when I send them to the web or to print, they are always way more yellow. I have spider, elite and have calibrated my computer, but somehow my aperture settings must be wrong. I am pretty new to MAC, to photography and to Aperture. Can someone help???

Sounds like you are doing the right things.
    Try going to
    Export Version/Export Preset/Edit...
in here are all the options for your exports, including your profile choice, check that this is set to what you would expect.

  • From the Aperture wedding samples: Completely unacceptable output vs ACR

Besides the quirks, pauses, $400 to upgrade my video card(which ran fine with CS2/Bridge/ACR), oh and and twice a day crash, I reallly tried my best to make Aperture sing. However, the output is where the rubber meets the road. Only one word can describe the output from Aperture.
    Atrocious.
To be fair, I took one of the D2X wedding sample NEFs from the Aperture install disk:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/CHW_7533.NEF
Took it into Aperture, only applied .5 sharpening(default) and exported it:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/wedding-sample-aperture.jpg
Took the same NEF into Bridge/ACR, here is the side car file of adjustments I made in a few keystrokes:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/CHW_7533.xmp
and the resulting image that not only save 4x faster than Aperture, but looks 4x better:
    http://homepage.mac.com/john.rayl/.Pictures/wedding-sample-acr.jpg
I will stick with Aperture if anyone can get output from Aperture that looks as good or better than the one from Bridge/ACR.
Otherwise I have a Radeon X 800 XT to return and a software app to eBay.
    Thanks for trying.
My time on the Aperture beta team is over.

I found a bit of time this afternoon, so here you go.
    1024 pixel high version:
    http://www.azurevision.co.uk/aperture/wedding-srgb-ijw-1024.jpg
    Full size version:
    http://www.azurevision.co.uk/aperture/wedding-srgb-ijw.jpg
    Aperture settings used:
    http://www.azurevision.co.uk/aperture/wedding-settings-ijw.jpg
What you won't like is that I used a workaround - exported as 16-bit to a hot folder which uses an Automator action to change them to JPEG, which automatically drops the bit-depth to 8-bit. Obviously this isn't going to help for books or web gallerys.
I was pleasantly surprised how little it added to the export time, about two seconds for the full size version.

  • Viewing Keywords in Browser in Aperture

How can I change the Aperture settings so I can see my keywords under the photos in the browser view? I have figured out how to do that in the Viewer and Split View, but I can't figure out how to do it in the browser view. I can get the photo number under the photos in the browser, but not the keywords. Thanks.

Goto 'View->Metadata Display->Customize...' you'll get the 'Browser & Viewer Metadata' window.
In the top pulldown labeled 'View:' select either 'Basic View' or 'Expaneded View' under 'Grid View' depending on which view you want to add the keywords to.
In the 'Metadata Fields' open 'IPTC', under 'IPTC" open 'Content'. Check 'keywords'
